Very frustrating experience with the orthopedic department at Summit Health. One year after my knee replacement surgery, I am still dealing with pain and limited flexibility. After multiple visits and imaging, communication and follow-up were extremely poor. I requested a simple call to review my CT results but received no response and was only contacted 20 days later. In the meantime, I was billed for the scan without getting timely results or a clear care plan. The lack of communication and delays made an already difficult recovery more stressful and costly. The worst. Stay far away. They were already awful when they were Westmed. Since being taken over by Summit they've sunk even lower. I didn't think that was possible. To give you some background, I started going to Westmed because my doctor became part of the group this was in the late 90s. I had no issues with the doctor. The issues were with the company. One of my biggest gripes was that you couldn't call the doctor directly (I wrote at length about this in an earlier review). My doctor retired a few years ago. She had recommended specific doctors to continue with. I saw one who I liked very much, After about a year, she left to go home to California. I made an appointment with yet another doctor. Saw her. She was fine. Made a follow up appointment with her for several months later. Got a phone call shortly thereafter telling me my follow up appointment had to be cancelled and that she could not see me for two years! At that point I decided to cut my ties with Westmed/Summit. Oh, and one more thing. To save money, Summit cut their doctors salaries by 20%. As a result, their best doctors left. I recently had a colonoscopy at Westmed at Ridgehill. While my physician and the staff were overall excellent, I have to say I was extremely upset and distressed at the lack of privacy for the procedure. The room I was in for the actual procedure had at least eight beds in it, all separated by cloth curtains. There were both men and women patients, and the doctor and the nursing staff were running in between patients for their procedures and for their recoveries. I was required to undress completely while separated only by cloth from the next (male) patients on either side, probably a maximum of 6 feet away. We could hear everything from each other's anesthesia instructions, to the results of the test, to the follow up instructions about recovery and passing gas. It was really an unacceptable lack of privacy. I felt like I was in a cattle corral. I've been a Westmed patient for many years. I've had several colonoscopies and I've never been in a public area like that during the procedure. I am 76 years old, female, and I'm increasingly appalled at the corporatization of the care there. Summit management should be ashamed and should reconsider their lack of concern for patients since their takeover of Westmed. There is so little regard for a patient's dignity or privacy when everything is sped up and organized to maximize quantity and profit. I'll be going somewhere else for my next colonoscopy. read more

I am very impressed with my internal medicine doctor, my ophthalmologist, and my dermatologist. That being said, I have to drive to one of the locations to have any hope of making an appointment. Their phone system is worthy of Rube Goldberg. Their hospitalist at Greenwich Hospital was shagging me about diabetes treatment at a time when there was a pancreatic cancer scare. Turns out my diabetes was ameliorated by the treatment for the real problem, a bile duct obstruction. With great reluctance I am shifting to an internal medicine doctor in the Yale-New Haven system. The staff and physicians are wonderful, right down to the valet parking attendants. However, Summit Health's take over of Westmed has been a disaster for patients. At one time, it was easy to do something as simple as make an appointment. However, Summit has made the process so difficult and convoluted that I have switched to other health networks. I had my last physical in November 2023 and my doctor ordered a mammogram. It was canceled three times with the first available appointment being October of 2024, nearly a year after the initial visit. I was able to get an appointment at Lenox Hill Radiology within a week and could have been seen the same day if I had the time. Summit took a once great organization and destroyed it. read more

The doctors that I see at 210 Westchester Ave Westmed are terrific, yet I needed blood drawn and the woman who was on duty causes such a bruise. She caused pain when she put the needle in, so I knew she did something wrong, and when I mentioned that it hurt she adjusted it and caused more pain. And the bruise? I'm wearing long sleeve shirts! And three days later I learn from my doctor that not enough blood was drawn and I have to go back! Do I want two bruised arms the week before surgery? read more

Since WMG joined Summit it has been a disaster. They cancelled my appointment and told me I could reschedule with another provider. Why? Because the provider I used is leaving and Summit didn't even have the courtesy to send patients notice that their internist is leaving the practice. They just cancelled my appointment and expected me to use another one of their docs. Good bye summit, I will find a provider outside of your money hungry practice. read more

After over 20 years as a Westmed patient, I am leaving forever. The takeover by Summit Health has completely ruined what once was a great practice. My internist left the profession after working there for years, and I had to schedule an appointment five months in advance to even speak to a new doctor. It's impossible to make a timely appointment to see any doctor there. My doctors have all been wonderful but have all gradually left. I recommend avoiding this place! read more

I've been to this location 3 times. I'm always in and out within an hour. The staff are communicative and professional. I see Nurse Practitioner Michele Tyler and she's hands down the best medical professional I've ever encountered. I usually get a phone call the same day for my results. Today's appointment, the gentleman handling patients for imaging and ultrasounds was proactive in calling patients and rescheduling appointments due to a call out. The staff here cares. Westmed customer service is awful. I was charged twice for only one visit and they told me I was billed correctly. I do not know how I could be charged twice for one visit and they did not fix it. The provider I worked with has also did not get the lab tests I needed and instead got many unnecessary tests. Would recommend going elsewhere for healthcare. read more

I was seeing an endocrinologist for an autoimmune condition I have. In January she diagnosed me with a second autoimmune condition and put me on a medication for it. I had a follow up scheduled for March. Her office cancelled it a few days before the appointment. I had another follow up scheduled for next week (end of June) that her office just cancelled yesterday. I requested a refill of my medication and blood work orders. They are refusing to submit bloodwork orders and sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy (happened multiple times now). They're telling me the earliest anyone can see me is now end of July. I would not recommend Westmed or Ms. Do to anyone. I have two serious autoimmune diseases (t1d and graves) that have not been managed by a provider for over 6 months because of the practices negligence and lack of care for patients. I've requested calls from the doctors office and patient relations multiple times and have yet to receive a call from either department. read more

What happened to WestMed? It used to be a premier medical group in Westchester County, NY but it has deteriorated rapidly due to business suits leading the way to enrich their pockets. You see, the true story is that Warburg Pincus, the NYC based private equity firm got involved in the healthcare space and convinced the various predecessor medical groups that they could flip their practices for a pretty penny. (Pretty sure Mr. TJ Carella, an ex Goldman guy, was the mastermind for the following deals.) It started in 2017 when Warburg Pincus became the majority owner of City-MD, taking a play out of the Carl Icahn corporate raider playbook. They were then able to facilitate the CityMD & Summit Medical Group merger in 2019 to form Summit Heath. Then after that they worked on Summit Health's merger with WestMed and New Jersey Urology in January 2022. (This is about when the real problems started to happen for WestMed patients, terrible wait times, poor website UI, missing prior medical records, doctors using new systems not being able to see medical history from old systems, call centers in foreign countries, the list goes on) Then the quick flip and sale of Summit Health to VillageMD for almost $9 billion in January 2023. Through all this the patient experience has deteriorated while corporate pockets are lined. Don't believe the corporate slogans about how this is to better serve the patients with more locations and more access. The experience, regardless of how many locations has gone DOWN. So beware if your new and planning to move to WestMed, its not what it once was. If anyone is to blame its all the executive management of these medical practices. They had to sign off on all these deals, surely influenced by the profits, not anything related to medical. read more

WestMed has really gone downhill. The doctors and nurses themselves are wonderful, IF you ever get to see them! However, from the administrative and organizational side, this business is THE PITS. First, I went for a GYN visit a few weeks ago and was not seen for over an hour past my appointment time. I had to go back for a follow-up yesterday and waited an hour in the waiting room and another 30 minutes in the exam room. I had to pick up my daughter from school, so after sitting there half naked in the gown still waiting 1.5 hours later, I put my clothes back on and told the nurse I had to go! I also demanded they refund my co-pay since I was never seen. Secondly, I chatted with some other ladies in the waiting room who told me their appointment times were all within 10 minutes of mine and each other!! One lady's appointment was at 12:10, mine at 12:20, the next at 12:30. What kind of a practice schedules appointments within 10 minutes of each other?!?! Thirdly, the new portal is also a disaster and constantly makes you enter your information even as a return patient. Lastly, you can't EVER call the actual doctor's office. All phone numbers take you to a general number where the same Covid recording comes on, then you have to listen for the practice you want, and it's all just general scheduling numbers. You can't ever reach your actual doctor on the phone. There are SO MANY negative reviews online of WestMed and their administration. Can't believe they haven't fixed these issues. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. Had colonoscopy 6 years ago. Despite being told it was 100% covered by Aetna, I was hit with hidden fees. (anesthesiologist out of network, preventative vs diagnostic grey area... they have methods - billings IDs, list goes on). Before doing my second in August 2023, I got a confirmation from Aetna via an email that this procedure would be 100% covered!!! Great I thought - peace of mind. Had the procedure 2 weeks ago and today I get a "PAST DUE NOTICE - AVOID COLLECTIONS.... email for my initial screening with the doctor! Do not listen to the nice people who 'care'. It's all a game that the hard working insurance paying people support. STAY AWAY FROM WESTMED I have been a patient at Westmed for decades, and always found them to be professional, and more importantly, easy to deal with in terms of scheduling appointments and seeing different experts. Even though i moved to Manhattan six years ago, i continued to use Westmed because their services were excellent. However, since Summit purchased Westmed, it has been an unmitigated disaster. Last month i noted some new growths on my arm and tried to make an appointment for a dermatologist in the Yonkers locatIon, which is my preferred location. There were no appointments on the calendar available through the end of the year, so i called. I was advised that the next available appointment would be in 2025, and when i advised that it was too far out, they were able to find a dermatologist available in Rye, which is much farther away. I also tried to make an appointment with an orthopedist, again, in Yonkers for gel shots to my knees, which i need periodically. I needed the three appointments to be completed by early September when i was leaving for Europe and expected to do a lot of walking. The on line calendar only offered physicians assistants, and shortly after i made an appointment for August 1, 2024 i received a phone call cancelling the appointment I rescheduled for August 12, 2024 and a few days later that was also cancelled by Westmed. i called to reschedule and there was no one available to reschedule, but i was assured i would receive a call back in half hour. That did not happen. I called the next day and was again told there was no one available, but i would receive a call back in half hour. That did not happen. I then called the Patient Relationship number and after being placed on hold for 1/2 hour, i finally left a message. Needless to say, i never received a call back. I have dealt with many wonderful doctors at Westmed, but since Summit Health acquired them, their service has been a disaster. Physicians calendars are booked up for months and months in advance. The phone system is horrible, and when the phones are answered the person who answers inevitably is unable to help. After many satisfied years with Westmed i am now forced to find other doctors. read more

I had a biopsy taken by a westmed physician. The results were sent to another physician that I never had contact with. I read the results on the portal and it included the steps I should now take as a result of the the report. A doctor whose patient I had never been and whom I do not know was telling me what to do. He had no idea that I was not his patient and he never met me. This medical group is a disaster. Stay away from it. read more

Positives: I've had some great doctors here, the facility is extremely clean, I like that all my information is shared with all the other doctors at WestMed because it keeps everyone on the same page. Negatives: The call center is the worst, and the online booking process is no better. I've started feeling weirdly separated from my healthcare-- I miss just being able to speak with the receptionist at my doctor's office. A lot of the doctor's and nurses seem burned out. My last few doctor's appointments were terrible and essentially a waste of money, one of the doctors ordered a bunch of tests and an ultrasound, but never followed up about the results (or gave me a heads-up about a more invasive-procedure she had ordered). Sure, I can look on my patient portal, but the jargon isn't always the easiest to understand and not all of the results are there. Westmed is the worst! I couldn't get an appointment with an endocrinologist (how does anyone get appointments at Westmed???) until I met with my PCP for an annual physical. She set it up for two months from that day. On the day of I realize I haven't had a confirmation so I call the call center and they say yes, you have an appointment with Dr. F at noon in Rye. OK, I go to Rye and they say "no no no! you have an appointment in Purchase. You have to drive there now." She even confirms it with the other office. So I drive the 15 minutes to the new place. At check in they say "your appointment was canceled as it was scheduled during the lunch hour." No notification, also why did they tell the other office I should drive over? They say the nurse will reach out to me to reschedule and that was a month ago. It wasn't so bad as I'm not sick but what if I was elderly or had a chronic illness? Shame on them! [I have also had subpar experiences with the PCP (I had to diagnose my own blood work online as having an issue after she told me it was "all good) plus the blood draw people seemed angry at me and both stabbed me and rooted around in my arm for a vein. As a person in her 70's with a bad leg I could only find a parking spot on the 3rd floor & then went to elevator to find out all elevators are out & I had to use stairs 3 flights down & 3 flights up. Meanwhile Westmed calls, texts & emails you 3 times each about your appointments but never mentioned elevators are out if they had told me I would not of gone there. The parking elevators have been out for months was told yesterday in the doctors office. Also less then 90 minutes parking & you are charged $5. read more

I reached out to my PCP with concerns about my weight and depression and wanted to inquire about the weight loss shot, my doctor proceeded to tell me that my endocrinologist may be able to get me approved a little faster due to thyroid and diabetes conditions. So I then reached out to Dr. Rebecca Fenichel and explained to her (in an email) because you can never speak to anyone there its all emails. Her response floored me as she said I am not a miracle worker! WOW this is a professional response to a patient that is coming to you about being depressed and suicidal for a weight issue? For the laboratory services only. TERRIBLE! Although the website claims walk in appointments are available in White Plains from 8-8:45 am -that is not true. I have tried on 2 separate days to walk in. I arrived at 8:10 the first time and 7:40 the second time. I was turned away. ALL SPOTS TAKEN. The website should clearly state that spots are very limited for walk ins and you must arrive by 7:15 for availability. And don't try to get an early morning appointment for labs. Absolutely nothing available. Earliest I could get was 9:40 in Yonkers. Not good for a work schedule! This lab is not patient friendly at all! read more

I can't say enough about how West Med is only worried about their fees and making money. My daughter had a terrible experience at the new urgent care- 1084 North Broadway in Yonkers. Avoid this location at all costs! 'Mary', the blonde, overweight nurse on staff is horrible. She was especially rude to both of my children ages- 6 and 16. The Dr and nurses must get kick backs and free lunches from the pharmaceutical companies because Dr Mathia wrote a script for a brand name Tamiflu, with no option for a generic! This was $130 when I went to fill it and we have amazing insurnace, no script is more than $25, ever. I called West Med multiple times and finally spoke to 'Mary' (bc you can't speak to anyone who is qualified at West Med) to ask for the script to be rewritten with an generic option - Mary was rude and condescending. Mary more worried I was going to fill the script 2x than helping my 6 year old who HAD the FLU. I then drove over to the urgent care myself, after going to 3 pharmacies to hand them the hard script to have it rewritten as generic and AGAIN 'Mary' refused saying it was now out of the 24 hours window and I should have filled the script last night! First of all- she is not even a Dr. secondly- this was Never explained to me! Where is the duty of care!? (There is none at West Med! Only a duty to fill their pockets.) Thank God I found an amazing pharmacist who saw how upset I was- and called the Yonkers Urgent Care on my 6 year old daughters behalf to have the script corrected so it could be filled. He was even perturbed because 'Mary' at West Med was more worried about him not giving me a copy of the script back than HELPING my 6 year old kid with the FLU. 'Mary' and West Med were more worried I was going to cut them out of their fees for another visit than any concern for the patient. This is not the first bad experience we have had at West Med, but definitely shows they are more motivated by $$$$ than care. AVOID at all costs! read more

So far my experience with this clinic has been good. The only drawback is the parking fee I have to endure each time. However, the service is always prompt and carried out professionally. Since I started going to this clinic I have not had to sit for hours waiting to see a doctor especially when I have an appointment. It also helps that almost every type of medical specialist / service is located under one roof. All of the staff that I have encountered have been friendly and helpful. read more

After moving from the city, WestMed at Ridgehill is my Go To for My Health. I have all my Drs at this locations, and I mean all my Drs, I see at least 8 Drs at this facility. The urgent care is always open so I can walk In any time. During the pandemic, parking was free, as we try to get back to norm, parking is in effect, with technology, it's easy to pay the parking with the smart phone, or you can pay for valet in front of Westmed. With technology it's easy to make an appointments with the Drs, sometimes, the appointment is 3 months in advance. If you are lucky or a 50/50 chance, you might actually have an appointment with the dr on the same day or the day after, because of cancellation, I say this because I was lucky couple of times. They have a new system/ software so it's a bit tricky, to make an appointment, you would use the WestMed App. To contact your Dr., refill Meds, Check Results, you would use AthenalHealth App. if you can't wait 3 months to see the Dr., just call the main line or email the Dr.f or an early appointment. Technology benefits the new generations and does not accommodate the Veterans. read more

I have to say, Westmed's idea of making things better is absolutely not thought through from the patient's perspective. They have created this "wonderful" update and it is nothing short of useless. It was bad before, but since their update we have waited no less than 45 mins just to get to a central location. They offer to call you back so you don't have to wait, and not once that I chose that option did they call. I won't critique the doctors or their assistants, we have had good experiences with them directly. However, getting to them is almost impossible! be aware, the numbers on ea individual doctor's profile only send you to a central group. There is NO WAY to get directly to your doctor's office, and if you ask, they say no. I have to request an appointment through the central office and they relay a message to your doctor's office - it's ridiculous! They also tell you to go to that convenient patient portal to make an appt. Well, when I do that through my portal TO MAKE AN APPT WITH MY DOCTORS it sends me out of the portal to the genral public site and I have to enter all of my info as if I were a new patient - also, on the appy page at the top it says appts as early as 2 weeks out...THEN when you go to choose a day and time, it only offers dates 2 months out! And that is partially because it is not registering you as a current patient! A much as we like out doctors, our experience this past year has been so horrendous we are ready to leave. I'd think about whether GROUP is right for you. Doctors are good, but operationally it is an absolute disaster!!! If you do, be sure you have 1-2 hours to anything. All I got.
