Overall: 20/10 The highest review I've ever given a…read morebusiness. Dominic Latella works miracles for swimmers! I took his "treading water" clinic and in 10 minutes, I was treading water effortlessly; something I've struggled doing for years and even after taking numerous lessons with private instructors (not affiliated with SwimBox). He's taught for 22+ years! and it shows. He simply knows how to coach all the minute details in swimming mechanics. I've always 'm someone with a high muscle to fat ratio and have ALWAYS sank like a rock. He taught me 3 styles to use my hands to tread and 4 styles using my feet. He demonstrated things in the water (such as corkscrews) that I've never seen/heard of before. He's very friendly and personable as well. I've taken the swim analysis and it was super helpful/beneficial. Looking forward to signing up for more classes! Highly recommend!

Another attempt at learning to tread water. Another rip off. My single goal was to learn to be able…read moreto jump into deep water and to swim back with my head above water. Basically, vacation-style swimming where you jump off a boat, tread for a bit, and swim back to the boat. I asked if I could learn this at SwimBox. I was told I could. If they don't teach this, they should have said so. Instead, I took 10 classes and was never taught either of these things. The instructor, as usual, wasted time in the beginning treating me like I'm afraid of water. I can already swim underwater and on my back (not expertly, of course). Instructors should start off with new swimmers by allowing them to show what they can already do vs. starting them with blowing bubbles and floating. At SwimBox, they have no incentive to move you along quickly since dragging out the lessons equals more classes, which equals more money for them. I gave the instructor the benefit of the doubt that she was teaching me some basic things I needed to know. However, as the classes went along, I noticed we were headed towards what I feared -- teaching me freestyle swimming and perfecting my form. This IS NOT what I asked to learn! I don't plan to swim laps or join the Olympics. When I clarified again that I wanted to learn to swim with my head above water, she dismissed that type of swimming as not real swimming. Well, that's how people swim socially and that's what I asked, upfront, to learn. Finally, I was lied to when I was told we would work on treading water, which is the MAIN THING that I wanted to learn. The pools are, obviously, not deep, but I was duped into believing I would still be taught. Each time I take swim lessons, they teach what they want to teach. I will just have to get a friend to teach me because formal instructors are apparently hard wired to teach every new swimmer freestyle. I wasted my money.

Visited Goldfish Swim School for a birthday party. Prior to arriving we filled out an online waiver…read morefor my son. Forced me to create an account, provide details about where we live and leave a phone number. The process was a bit confusing as they also asked for credit card to be on file even though we weren't purchasing anything, just trying to attend a party. Thankfully the host of the party had sent out a detailed text letting the party attendees know how to accurately fill out the form. The party itself was cool. We arrived at the allotted time and were greeted by an employee who seemed the party host. She took our gifts and we went in and mingled a bit while others arrived. Once they were ready to start, the kids were taken to the pool area, which was separated from the non swimmers and party area by a floor to ceiling glass wall that ran the length of the pool. Keeping the wet and dry separate.... brilliant idea! The host gave them instructions, lifeguards did a quick swim test and then the kids got to swim. After swimming, pizza was served, cake was served, birthday songs were sung and games were played. The host and lifeguards served the pizza, cut and served the cake and got the games started. There were ample changing areas (I believe at least nine) so that kids weren't standing around wet and waiting to change. Once the party was done the swim school provided goody bags that included a balloon, cotton candy, a coloring page and a couple trinkets. I'm not sure if during the waiver process I filled in the wrong thing but I have received at least one call since the party asking about swimming lessons. I don't love that. Goldfish Swim School hosted an excellent party. Registration was a bit tedious and it remains to be seen how much solicitation will occur post party, that's what makes this a four star instead of five star experience.

They also have a plethora of gear like towels, ear plugs, swim caps and a cute little snack corner for the littles! My kids instructors were super welcoming and nice and there ample space to sit and watch your littles as they learn. The rooms heated as well as the pools for fun and interactive sessions. So excited for my kiddos to continue.

Update: 27 July…read more Although I thought my son would be consistently able to attend the swim sessions with the manager of the school on the weekday evenings, it's become apparent that this is not going to happen. I've found it hard to get in touch with the instructors/manager to pay for my sons session and it's too much work to do as a paying customer to feel like you have to chase down someone to get a class scheduled. I'm in a few social media groups for autistic parents and one of them are affiliated in Baltimore. Many of the parents of autistic children shared the same sentiment of the Goldfish Schools that either instructors keep leaving or they cannot find instructors who are qualified with working with children with special needs. Should we all stick with one on one swimming lessons, maybe, but some special needs children learn faster in social settings to mimic their peers and also shouldn't be subjected to isolation to learn a life saving skill. Sadly we will be going to another swim school.

I too feel like it's an inviting supportive atmosphere hence our lengthy run with them, however there are a few aspects that could make it a 5 star experience. 1) Longer Classes or smaller groups per lane. With only 25 minutes of actual instruction (the last 5 is talking about each child's progress) and 4 kids per lane, each child really gets maybe 5 or 6 minutes and that's providing everyone actually gets in the pool on time AND is prepared not still adjusting goggles while everyone else waits etc. 2) Better visibility/monitoring of the changing area by staff. The staff is either all behind the counter or in the pool area so many parents will hold up inside the dressing rooms instead of going in to hear about their swimmers progress leaving the rest of us to stand in line and wait for their child to get out and come "find" the room being reserved for them. Shame on those parents! Having some staff support to alleviate that issue would go a long way!
