My heart is broken in pieces. Today, I had to bury a friend, who I loved and cared very much for, after I begged this clinic to help me save its life. I brought my pet chicken in critical condition to the Westminster Veterinary Group, hoping that they would help. They wanted $500 just to stabilize it. It could not stand, eat, or drink. They quoted me $290 for the emergency exam. Dr. Houston came in and asked me some questions. I told her please don't let my bird die. I asked her don't you love animals? After she took the bird in and looked at it, one of her assistants came in and said it would cost $2,300 for treatment. When I was looking at the paper, I smiled because I thought it said $230, I didn't see the extra 0. I told her that was way more money than I could ever afford. Then she came back and brought me a lower price of $500 just to stabilize the bird with antibiotics, and that price included the emergency visit charge. Insane that they would think anybody would be able to pay either of those amounts for a bird. They must have taken a lesson from the Art of the Deal. Make the first offer ridiculous, so that the person would accept the second offer, thinking it won't get any better than that. Before that, though, they offered me an $800 euthanasia option. Can you imagine? They would've charged $800 to kill the bird. That's $300 more than they were charging to treat it. I tried, but couldn't get credit with their Scratchpay or CareCredit. After some back and forth, I told them just give me the bird, I'm going home, because I can't afford any of your options. The assistant had me sign an AMA (Against Medical Advice) form. Then she told me that if I still had the paperwork that I filled out, because I never gave it to them, that if I gave it to her she would go and talk to Dr. Houston and see if she was willing to lower the price. They tricked me! I gave her my paperwork with all of my information that I shouldn't have given them at all, just for her to come back and tell me the exact same $500 price. The only difference was I would have 30 days to pay it. A woman in the waiting room was kind enough to offer a $100 donation from her credit account to help pay for my bill, but I couldn't accept that. You'd think seeing her display of generosity would've softened the veterinarian's hearts a little, but nope. They were dead firm on that $500 charge. $500 is a ridiculous amount of money, in fact $100 would've been too much, for something that cost them much much less to do. Before I left, I told them to give me my bird and my paperwork that I had just handed to her, because there was no way I was going to do $500 over the course of 30 days. If it had been over the course of a year, fine, but 30 days, no way. She gave me the bird, but not the paperwork. I left because I didn't want any trouble and because my bird was dying, and I wanted to spend the last moments with it. It died in front of me within hours, in my bedroom, the same room that it was born in, and I buried it today in the backyard that it used to love playing and running around in. If they had offered to treat it without the additional unnecessary $290 emergency charge, I would've paid them to do the antibiotics and the other treatments they mentioned, it would've only been about $200. But $500? Pure greed. Do these people even have any blood running through their veins? Do any of them even own pets themselves? How can they ask for $500 to treat a bird that they could've treated for way less money? There was no reason for them to have charged that emergency fee and I hope that my pet's death remains on their conscience forever, if any of them even have one. read more

We initially came to this vet for my dog's rabies shot and because he had been sprayed by a skunk so we wanted to make sure everything was taken care of properly. We were a little hesitant at first since his previous vet is in Santa Ana, and we were only trying this office because it's much closer to our new home. I am so glad we did. I truly can't say enough good things about this vet and the entire team. From making the appointment, to receiving his vaccine documentation afterward, everything was seamless and professional. The doctor was amazing with my dog in the room, and the staff was just as wonderful!! They made us feel completely comfortable from start to finish. What really stood out to me was their transparency and compassion when it came to pricing. My dog needed senior lab work and had developed a hematoma on his ear from excessive shaking due to a possible ear infection, so they performed an ear cytology and prescribed medication. As we all know, these things can add up but the staff took the time to come in and break everything down for us. They made it very clear that we were not obligated or pressured to do everything at once. They gave us options, explained what was urgent versus what could wait, and allowed us to move forward step by step in a way that worked for us and our budget. There was absolutely no pressure, just support, understanding, and genuine care for my dog's well being. That meant so much to us. I honestly love this place. I'm excited for this to be my dog's vet full time, and even if we move again, I will gladly make the drive to keep coming here. The love, respect, and care they show for their patients is unmatched, and I'm so grateful to have found a vet I truly trust. Highly, highly recommend. read more

Unfortunately this was the only veterinary office open when my daughter brought her sick guinea pig in. They proceeded to do procedures without even telling my daughter what the costs were. Then they wanted to take x-rays and blood work when clearly the Guinea pig had a respiratory problem which pneumonia is the most common diagnosis. The visit was $400 which my daughter could barely afford. Had they done additional tests and treatment it would have run into the thousands. No empathy no compassion. Only money, money, money. Obviously a corporate office that pays their Vets a commission. My advice, find another vet if there are any honest ones anymore. read more

My puppy had tooth root Abscess in dog . Her face was oozing pus everyday. I have no insurance for her and been looking for a place can treat her with a good deal and good treatment. I took her go to some places before I took her came here . This place make me more comfortable with better deal than other places. When we make appointments the front desk always ask how our pets are doing , addressing them by their first names it feels personal and friendly, it takes the nervousness of being at the vet. After the surgery now my dog's face healing, And I saw its fur starting to grow where it was injured before.Paid for her surgery not cheap but still better deal than other places I visited before. My bunny Vader was a patient here for the last 6 years. He was a senior rabbit when we adopted him. We found Dr Greenberg through Bunny Bunch, a local rabbit rescue, as she was highly recommended. His care was resumed by Dr Foster when Dr Greenberg left. Their doctors are smart/knowledgeable, caring and give practical/ realistic advice based on the situation you are facing. The vets and their staff always handle each patient with love and care. This veterinary group has been with us every step of the way from wellness checks to actively monitoring the mass that was growing in his chest for the last couple of years. When times were tough and we thought we were going to lose him last September, in a small act of kindness, they drew a bunny Vader on his medicine bag. It made me smile when I had been worried to tears. It's those special touches that really shows how much they care about the animals, but their pet parents too. Recently, we recently loss Vader and got a sympathy card individually signed by their team. It really warmed my heart during a very emotional time. I meant to write this review a while ago but didn't have the time. I want to give a huge thank you to Dr. Hueston and all the doctors and staff for taking such great care of Coco, my guinea pig.One day while I was bathing Coco, I felt a bump on his lower left teat and panicked right away because the first thing that came to my mind was a tumor. I made an appointment the very next day and Dr. Hueston examined him. I didn't have enough money to find out the exact cause of the bump, but they explained it was most likely a mass that had grown. so we scheduled his surgery.After the surgery, Coco was less active than normal and out of it, probably from the anesthesia, but he recovered very well. His hair grew back, and now his belly is completely full of hair again. Today, Coco is back to his normal healthy self, running from here to there. Thank you so much to the WESTMINSTER VETERINARY GROUP staff. I truly appreciate everything you did for Coco and all the other animals. They stayed late to perform a life-saving liver lobe torsion surgery on my bunny when two other hospitals were unable to help. Their willingness to go the extra mile and step in immediately made all the difference. I was truly impressed with how quickly they developed a surgical plan and prepared the operating room for a last-minute emergency at the end of a long day. Dr. Rettig led the surgery with confidence and skill, supported by Drs. Foster and Tran, and together they formed an exceptional team. Because of their immediate action and extraordinary dedication, my bunny survived a nearly fatal case of liver lobe torsion. We ended up coming here when our dog had severe pancreatitis. We went back and forth between the animal hospital who could keep him overnight and Westminster Veterinary Group who was able to take care of him during the day. It was a very hard experience for us and at one point we were even going to put down our dog. Thankfully Dr. Tara Drake-Hueston explained to us how despite how he was feeling on the outside, he was actually improving so we decided to give him a chance. It wasn't an easy month dealing with his health and there were lots of tough days for us. Despite what we were going through coming here and having everyone treat us so kindly made things easier to deal with. It also felt better knowing he was in good hands. I could feel that everyone in the office truly cared about our dog and were just as happy as we were when he got better. It's been a while since I've been here, but the staff is still friendly and helpful! I took my guinea pig in because she was having some issues and the original Doctor I saw prescribed antibiotics after doing an x-ray. The antibiotics seemed to help, but then the issue came back a couple of weeks later, so I made another appointment. This time I got Doctor Divya (?) who is one of their newer doctors and I LOVE her. She's definitely going to be my doctor of choice moving forward for my guinea pigs. She's very knowledgeable, understanding, personable, and communicative. I expressed to her my frustrations of having run multiple tests on my guinea pig to not find out the root cause of her issues. I won't bore you with the details, but she was very informative throughout the whole thing and it genuinely seemed like she was conscious of the costs adding up because not once did she try to push for extra unnecessary tests. She kept us updated through calls the entire week. I also appreciated the receptionist I spoke to who pointed out we could get a refill of one of our medications on Chewy for probably a much cheaper price. Their fees did increase, but I feel like that's to be expected. Their exam fee is now $108, I believe. Anyway, if you have a guinea pig (or honestly, probably any other animal) I would highly recommend her. read more

I took in my chinchilla, Chimi, for his recommended 6 month check up appointment for his teeth issues on Sunday 12/24/2023. We scheduled another tooth trimming for mid-January. However, a couple of days later, Chimi's health quickly deteriorated. The staff were able to take in Chimi immediately on Saturday and stabilize him. While I was waiting at home, I had full trust in their ability to save his life. Unfortunately, the results showed that Chimi had kidney failure, probably from old age (10+ years), so I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him. Even though it was past closing, the staff kept their doors open for another hour and waited patiently as I said my goodbyes to my best friend. I will forever be grateful for the people here that helped Chimi through his medical issues in his last year. I really think he made the decision to go (didn't want to deal with another surgery!!), and he was surrounded by love in his final hours. I was looking for a reptile vet several years ago. I went on the ARAV website and found Dr. "G." Since I rescue bearded dragons and tortoises, she and her vets were a perfect fit for me. All of her vets had been trained by her in reptile care, so I trusted any of my animals with any of the vets. We recently brought in an abandoned 3-1/2 to 4 weeks old very sick and partially blind kitten. She weighed 8 oz and was near death. Now, 7 weeks later, this little girl is 2-1/2 lbs and very healthy with the exception of one eye she may lose eventually. The staff was nice, but lacked urgency for my pet hedgehog. The vet gave her an examination and said she seemed alert and I quote, "I don't think she's going to die today or anything if that's your concern." My hedgehog later died that day. I don't blame the vet for not knowing exactly what was wrong with my pet because only radiology could tell. I am upset and confused as to why a professional veterinarian would excuse her and give me false reassurance that she was okay enough to take home. I reached out again to let them know and see if there was any refund I could get for the exam because I feel like I was given ill advice. They have yet to reach back to me and have stated that they don't typically do any form of refund. read more

I've come here for different types of visits for my hamsters. Dr. Hueston is one of the few veterinary recommendations in the nearby area that are listed on the California Hamster Association's webpage. She is very caring and offers us different realistic options for our hamsters. We've gone through three major mass removals for one hamster with her, each one with confidence that the surgeries were going to go well (and they did!) Westminster Veterinary Group was one of the first calls that I made when I came home and found my elder hamster in his last few moments of life. Staci was on the phone with me walking through all the different options and was still on the line with me when he took his last breath. Her compassion and empathy helped me through the difficult time and I'll never forget that. We went with their private cremation services, provided by West Coast Pet Memorial Services. We received an ornament with our pets name and paw prints, a box (that we selected and had the option to engrave) with his ashes, and they were able to give us some clippings of his fur. We also received a personalized e-card from the staff afterwards. As bearers of good news and bad, the staff at WVG handle all situations well. Everyone in the office does amazing work and is so good at what they do, I've heard from friends that finding a good vet that you can trust is difficult and I feel lucky that I was able to find one from the start. I haven't been to this vet for ages but after 10 years of not having pets, we finally got one for the kids. The person who sold us the puppy had taken care of them with updated shots. They chose Westminster Vet for our puppy. So to keep things easy, I just kept bringing our puppy back to the same place since all the records were already there. They moved to a much smaller location on the same street. I have to say the service is much better and I'm not feeling the same sales tactics that was pushed on me relentlessly a decade ago. My dog hasn't had any big health issues that this veterinary location has resolved but so far, with the normal routine e check ups, I'm starting to feel like the staff cares more about the pets again like how it was when I first brought my other pet there long ago. I can't speak on behalf of all exotic pet owners who have taken their pets here. But I personally had a great experience bringing my bearded dragon here. I was looking into exotic vets as soon as I adopted my bearded dragon a couple months ago and I came across this place. When I filtered the reviews for people who have taken their reptiles here they also really liked their experience here so that's why I choice this place. As far as pricing, I paid a lot but I was dealing with an urgent matter because for about 2 days my beardie was acting very lethargic and I took her outside and as soon as I did she ate a mushroom. Immediately, I called Westminster veterinary and they referred me to an emergency vet clinic which I also had a great experience with. After getting the recommendation to just book an appointment here I did. I recommend coming maybe 15 minutes early to your appointment if you're taking your pet here for the first time because I filled out I think 4 pages of paper work front and back. Though, I was really impressed with how in depth they go into your pets background information. They required information regarding medical history, to feeding, to husbandry (lighting, tank size, humidity, etc.). This shocked me since I've taken exotic pets to different vets before and they never have asked me to detail the history of my pets. My beardie was seen by Dr. Foster and she was really nice and very knowledgeable about bearded dragons. She made sure my beardie was comfortable even putting her on a heat pad while taking a look at her. She recommended blood work, X-rays, iv fluids, and fecal test. Which is where the high cost came from because I wanted to cover my bases as a first time reptile owner and at the time I only had her from a month. When I got my beardie I was told she was a boy and she was even taken to the vet before and the previous vet said she was boy. But Dr. Foster let me know that she is actually a girl and she is filled with infertile eggs that we saw in the x-ray. She prescribed 1 month of antibiotics and painkillers for my beardie and we were to call back if her behavior didn't improve. It's been 2 months since I've taken her and she is doing absolutely great. She's really active and constantly begging to come out of her enclosure so she can run around. She never ended up laying her eggs and Dr. Foster said that she would either lay them or re-absorb them. She still tries to eat everything in sight so I watch her extra closely when she comes out of her enclosure. But the next time I need to have her checked I will definitely be coming here. read more

I came here on Friday because my Guinea pig Link looked sick, his head was tilted and was not energetic. I took him here because they were the only hospital open. The minute I walked in and stepped out was with utmost care, respect, and kindness. The reception desk and it's staff are so welcoming and caring. The vet techs are respectful and ask before touching. They were super understanding and have pets of their own. The doctors experience with Guinea pigs was astonishing, she made me feel better knowing how much she understood the medicine of rodents. She recommended I use medicine before any procedures and so far she was right. My Guinea pigs head is not tilting, he is eating, defecating and acting like normal. When I started taking my little girl to this vet group, it seemed like they really cared about her, her being my elderly guinea pig sasha, they were about 2+ times more expensive than any vet I had been to in 25 years, but there are not hardly any left that will see exotics, on 10-11-24 she got very sick around 0400, I called, and finally got someone at 0800, and told them it was an emergency, and I was told they were booked, they finally took her in at 1030, and she was gone 10 minutes later, While they were finally taking her to the back, one of the office persons was asking me if I would put down at least a 700.00 dollar deposit, all they were worried about was there damned money, and my little girl was dying. I was in a room waiting less then a few minutes, and the vet came in to tell me she was gone, and she should have been seen much sooner, as far as I am concerned the person making the appointments killed her, and the hospital was negligent in how they handled her. Of course the office manager was more then kind to point out how it was my fault, so my only advice is beware of smiling faces, The evening staff was always passing her around, and telling me that she was there favert, the morning staff killed her. That is my absolute certainty, if she had been seen 2 hours earlier she would be in my lap right now, THEY KILLED HER, And her normal vet, or anyone else ever reached out to me, for anything. I have cancer, and she was the last thing that kept me enchard, and gave me a reason to want to stay, that is gone, because of them, I know this is long, just beware, they do not care, your pet, your loved one is just money to them. I was very detailed & descriptive about my bird and the questions I had. NONE of the questions were answered. I called back today and was told that they were going to leave a message with the doctor and I was going to get a call back. No call back. I just tried calling at 6:37pm and the recording says I'm calling after-hours followed by their hours M-F 9am to 7pm I am going to call tomorrow to figure out what is going on... Even if I have to go back there to make sure that those patients that they neglect are HEARD. read more

They saw my daughter's Whites Tree Frog today after I had called a gazillion places (not many places take care of the little guys). We had had a scare with him the night before and were SO thankful for this appointment. This place is a rip off. My cat was very itchy shaking his head scratching his ears, first time client. I called made an appointment was given a time and date to bring my cat in they said nothing else to me. My cat is 10 years old, he stresses out bad in a pet carrier he's been to a vet twice in his life, I get to the vet sign in and was told to sit outside with a cat that's in a carrier and freaking out. long story I was told by some girl that came out that I could not go in, really I don't like that I don't know them and they don't know my cat, she tells me they should have told me that when I make the appointment they did not or I would have never taken him here. I almost left but I had him in the carrier made the 13 min drive with my cat freaking out so I let he take him, they gave him 2 shots I asked for a revolution for fleas and was told they will put it on him, they did not but I was charged $30.00 for a single dose when I asked them about it I was told yes we put it on him... 2 shots and a single dose of flea med, the bill was a rip off. The doctor could have at least came out and introduce her self to me, but nope. Then I was told she want's to see him back in 2 weeks that's laughable ya I think not. She did nothing for him. I don't know what happened, but ever since they moved into the smaller building, this place has gone to shit. All the doctors seem to me to be superficial and not warm. The wait times are worse than the DMV. Prices are through the roof. I highly discourage use of this place. read more

i cannot speak for larger/common domestic animals but if you have a smaller/exotic, go somewhere else first and make sure you have another opinion/care price quote as a back up. coming here as your second opinion (or at any time) may $urpri$e you. their goal is not animal care, it's how much unnecessary upselling can be done. (read the other minimal star reviews. those people are not making things up) i literally had to sit and negotiate with a vet tech like i was purchasing a f*cking car. i stated specifically what i wanted to do for the care and kept receiving pushback. lol. it was so ridiculous and a complete waste of time. i already knew what parts of the breakdown of care were not necessary from my first vet opinion. all on all, the audacity of trying to charge $1500+ for a small rodent is the most asinine thing i have ever heard of. i wouldn't have paid this much as a human to see a doctor for the list of things they want to do. the part that makes me laugh the most, is the vet tech told me that a portion of the needed care is something another customer/patient of theirs does on a regular 2-3 week basis.. that option is $500+ alone.. so you mean to tell me a lady spends $500+ every 2-3 weeks on a small rodent?! HAHAHAHA.. the bullshittery and lies in this place are as funny as the govt. officials running CA. #clownery at its finest.. save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else first. make this place your second opinion (if it is one of the closer options to you)... if this is your first place to go, do extensive homework so you know what kind of scheme operation this place is running beforehand. read more

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. They were able to see my pet canary as an emergency visit and they did their best to save her. Unfortunately she died after laying her last egg. But they were attentive and so understanding. I can't thank them enough for the care they gave my Doris in her last and final moments. Even down to her burial box. I can't say enough how thankful me and my family are. Thank you. This experience was so unbelievably painful but their care and thoughtfulness made it less hard on us. read more
