I made it to 20 with great vet and home care.

Reassuring experience in the sad time of having to put our over 20 years old kitty with kidney disease to sleep. I'd say with the excellent vet care and advice for home care she got an extra 5 years. Everyone on staff and Dr. Ash have the same caring attitude.

I've been a dog owner all my life and have noticed a consistent decline in veterinary services that included constant misdiagnoses of my dogs' issues. As a result, I kept switching providers in search of someone who did not get their medical degree from Phoenix University. I am so glad I didn't just settle for the inadequate care that is generally provided by veternarians and was able to be added to Dr. Ash's client list. Dr. Ash is not only personable and extremely knowledgeable, but when speaking with him, I really feel like he cares and is honest. With past veterinarians, no matter how minor the issue was for my visit, I always felt like I was in a high-pressure sales situation where the outcome would be death to my pet if I wasn't willing to spend hundreds, if not thousands, on testing and medication that turned out to be unnecessary for my dogs, except when it actually needed. I recently visited Dr. Ash again because my dog had the most violent, nasal burning diarrhea, and even though he was fully booked, he let me come in as an emergency drop-in. After providing medicine that completely resolved my dog's issue and saved my rugs from further destruction, Dr. Ash called me at 8 PM to provide the results of my dog's fecal test. He could have had someone on his staff call me the next day, but that's the kind of vet he is--he works late so that his patients don't have to wait for test results. I honestly cannot say enough great things about Dr. Ash and how grateful I am to have him as my vet. Honestly, if he treated people, he'd be my primary doctor.

A couple years later, I still have had wonderful interactions with the staff here. Huge shoutout to Dr. Ash! He's super professional, gives updates on calls, and is very personalized with advice. My second cat goes here too now and has got taken care of with amazing care.

Dr Ash is one of the most patient, caring, thorough veterinarians, I've ever experienced I've had what I thought were great vets until I experienced Dr Ash's visit The customer service is always consistently superb My dogs never have a problem coming to the vet, they all treat Mozart and Stanley very well! I cannot say enough of how great this practice is.

It's time I update this review. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my animals. After 7 years of seeing Dr. Ash, he has gone from caring for my then only dog to 4 dogs and 6 cats. He helped me care for my aged and dying cat with the most compassion and dedication. His whole teams works tirelessly and really truly cares about our animals. Ours unfortunately have had a lot of health issues and Dr. Ash is always so educated and educates us. I'm forever grateful for the whole team at University Veterinary Center, but specifically Dr. Ash. I always half joke that if we ever move, I'll just travel to him for all of our veterinary care no matter how far. Thank you University Vet for always taking such great care of our babies!

Had a great visit with Dr. Sundby. My cat needed a rabies vaccine and a general wellness check-up. Dr. Sundby made my cat feel so comfortable even though he hates going to the vet.

The bad reviews that UVC gets doesn't even make any sense. First of, if you've never been seen and you're complaining about them being at full capacity, don't leave a bad review go find another reputable vet and move on. This place is the only place that I truly trust with my pets. Dr. Ash and Dr. Hernandez have always gone above and beyond for all of my pets. And I can truly say that because I've been going to this clinic for YEARS. They truly are on top of their vet care game and they will do anything and everything to make sure your pets are taken care of efficiently. They also take their time explaining everything to the most tedious details so nothing is ever up in the air or confusing for you when it comes to your pets care plan. The techs are amazing too, they handle my shepherd really well even though he's very anxious and over protective of us, they take their time and make sure he doesn't feel extra stressed and I really appreciate that as a pet owner. So yes they maybe at full capacity but now that they have Dr. Rodriguez they'll probably have more openings soon. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a primary vet team. Their whole team is truly second to none.

Took my foster dog here via rescue group's choice of vet, and wow, I might switch to this vet for my dogs (not foster dogs, but my actual family dogs). I was so thoroughly impressed with Dr. Hernandez. She was so detailed and answered EVERYTHING before I could even ask in a very comforting and well mannered way (not rushed at all). I've had my fair share of vets, and I like this place so far. Everyone was so kind (not just the vets). They had staff ask me if I was helped, kept me updated on what was going on as I waited, and asked me if I had any questions throughout the entire process. I'm so impressed.

Dr. Ash and his entire office provide the best care I've ever received for my girls-- feline and canine (I had two of each). Dr. Ash explains in lay terms what is happening with our pets and the choices we have for treatment. I am never rushed, and he truly understands that families often have to weigh their choices. I've had to euthanize two of my girls - one kitty due to cancer and one doggy due to neurological disease. Both times he showed his deep care to provide comfort to both our pets and us. I adore this doctor and his staff. I cannot believe how lucky I am to be able to give my remaining cat and dog the care they deserve -- here at UVC. Thank you ALL for everything you do! I'd give ten stars if I could!

Ask the Community - University Veterinary Center

What is the type of pet insurance accepted?

They don't process insurance rather you submit claims on your own to whatever pet insurance you prefer.

Can I be inside with my dog during her consultation?

Yes. They allow you in the exam room with your pup. Masks are required.

Does anyone happen to know how much roughly is TPLO surgery? I called and they said they won't give estimates over the phone. I live a bit far away and would appreciate a rough range before driving there with my pup. Thank you so much!

I would drive out and have your pet examined. You will never regret the consultation after meeting the staff and the doctors, compared to going somewhere less expensive or closer and not being happy. UVC is worth it.

Hello, how much does the dog consultation cost?

I believe I was charged $40/$5 but not certain. Whatever it was, it's well worth it, by far the best Vet! I am very picky and checked out about 8-10 vets before finally finding UVC. I drive 20 miles from Downey just to take my pups here.

Is dog teeth cleaning anesthesia-free here?

I don't believe so but you shouldn't want anesthesia-free dental cleanings anyways. They need to put your pup to sleep in order to do it properly. No dog is going to sit there and comply while they try to get all the gunk out.

We are planning to go on vaca and have our little baby pup go to the boarding care. It will be for two weeks. Is the payment all up front or can we do installment payments?

    What food does he recommended?

I believe ( not sure ) royal canine . However , don't count me on it . I would call and ask them . But again , it depends on your dogs specific allergies and whatever may be going on with them.

How much does a dental exam with anesthesia cost on average? How much if extractions needed? My prior vet charged over $1000 just for the anesthesia and exam. Current vet charges $200. That's a huge spread and I'd like to know where this clinic falls

Hi! Unfortunately I don't know the exact price but if you call the office the staff is super helpful and will give you a quote. I've been seeing vets for 35 years and finding Dr Ash has changed my life. In fact I drive over an hour to see him and… Read more

Does this clinic give bravecto and interceptor plus for flea and tick and heart worm prevention? Recently moved to here and the vet I tried has neither and that is what I'm comfortable with because my pup already is on it.

Hi there was wondering how much u charge for a well check up on our brand new 8week pug puppy?

I would call they are busy but they do the best at getting you in as quickly as possible.

The Medical Red Flag: Years ago, I brought my dog in with classic Cushing's symptoms. My concerns were dismissed because her initial blood work was "normal." It took a year and a different vet at the same practice to finally listen--by then, the disease had already caused serious damage to her liver and kidneys. While the staff was compassionate during her end-of-life care, the initial delay in diagnosis was a hard pill to swallow but Cushing's is difficult to diagnose so I reserved judgement. The Final Straw: Today was the breaking point. I brought my other pet in for a painful growth that they previously told me to just "watch." Despite years of being an on-time customer, I was 12 minutes late due to local school traffic (which was 100% my fault, not theirs). I was immediately hit with a $17 "late fee" that was never disclosed during booking. The Bottom Line: This clinic has no problem making you wait 30+ minutes in the lobby or exam room, but they will penalize a long time , loyal client the moment the tables are turned. When your pet is in pain, you want a partner in care, not a business that feels like it's nickel-and-diming you at every turn. I could see if I had a history of late or missed appointments. I don't and given the track record, would have appreciated a warning for the next time. But now there won't be a next time. If you're looking for proactive diagnostics and a practice that values long-term clients, look elsewhere. There are better options nearby that prioritize the animal over the late fee.

One time on Sat morning, I waited only 45 min to be seen! lol Yelp says he closes at 5, but i made an appt before at 4:30 and we were still at the office at 8pm finishing up with the doctor. This guy is a workaholic. His prices cannot be beat so if you don't mind paying up to double more somewhere else, then go to the another vet. If you are willing to wait to save money, come here. Ex: other vets quote $450 for an anesthetic teeth cleaning, if you have any extraction, it can cost you $1k. Dr Kim prob charges half that, but you will be picking your dog up at midnight. So weigh the pros and cons and decide. I have another vet I also use for minor issues when I'm short on time. One of our dogs got cancer on his paw, and my other vet told me it's not operable on the law and you will need to go to vet oncology and run tests and possible amputation and it will run you $10-15k. The dog was almost 15yo so obv we decided against that especially if he might not make it thru surgery/chemo. Then, we took him here for a second opinion. dr Kim also said that vet oncologist would cost that with amputation but the dog had hip dysplasia so obv amputation was not feasible. We told him that's too much for a 15yo dog. Then Dr Kim said he will operate to try to remove the tumor without testing for metastases first, if that's what we wanted to try. So we agreed to take a chance. He did a beautiful operation. Clear margins and beautiful stitch work. However, the cancer was too aggressive and turned out to be metastatic so it grew back. But he still bought our dog some time before he had to be put down at a fraction of $10k. I could tell he really wanted to save the dog and avoid putting him down. He truly loves animals. Yes he's human and he makes mistakes like all of us, but I think he's truly acting in the animals best interest to save as many as possible. Just look how freaking busy his office is. Testament to his skills. I'll still wait at his office for 2-3 hours if that's what it takes for anything serious. However if I just need a routine check up, then I'll go to my neighborhood vet to save time.

Chelsea recently passed away at 17, almost 18. She had such a long, happy life because of the care she received here. Chelsea was my baby, and I know how hard it can be to find a good vet. Pets can't talk, but you can see when they are genuinely cared for--and Chelsea got the best care at OC Veterinary. From the receptionists to the doctors, she was loved by everyone, and I am so grateful for that. Chelsea saw both Dr. Horn and, mostly, Dr. Nikki--both are exceptional veterinarians. We saw Dr. Nikki the most, and we had a very special connection with her. After Chelsea passed, Dr. Nikki even reached out to check on us, which was incredibly kind. She is practical, compassionate, and everything you could want in a vet. Chelsea also saw the groomer, Heather, who was very gentle and careful with her. Chelsea had back issues and was an older little lady, so it was comforting to know she was in safe hands. Sandra and Steve also made a big impact on Chelsea's life, especially Steve. They cared for her like she was their own family. Steve even called to check on us after Chelsea passed, which meant so much. I'm sorry this review comes so late, but I feel Chelsea would have wanted me to write it, and I want to honor her memory. No one enjoys visiting the doctor, but I am so grateful that we found such a wonderful facility to care for Chelsea. The very next day, I called to inquire about scheduling a chest x-ray for my dog since we had just seen the doctor yesterday . I asked if the exam fee would be charged again for the chest x-ray, and the receptionist informed me that I would need to pay the $65 exam fee again to see the doctor before the x-ray. I don't understand why another exam is necessary just to perform the chest x-ray when we had just been there the day before. Instead, I took my dog to 5 Points Companion Animal Hospital in Huntington Beach, where he received a thorough examination. I was able to get the chest x-ray done there as well. When I asked the receptionist at 5 Points if I could return at a later date without being charged another exam fee, they told me it would be fine as long as I came back within 30 days. This experience with Garden Grove Dog and Cat Hospital has made me feel like they are more focused on making money rather than providing quality care. I will not be returning to this clinic.

When you are in a moment of deep duress, faced with sudden, heavy decisions in the middle of the night, you need empathy. We were the only patients there, yet the care felt as cold as the human medical system. We felt backed into a corner with no good options: either take our dog's lifeless body home to wait for our regular vet to open, pay around $250 just to hold his body for a few hours, or choose their cremation service through West Coast Pet Memorial. We were handed a total bill from West Coast Pet Memorial for the cremation without a transparent breakdown of the hidden costs from CASE Animal Hospital --we weren't told the clay paw print was $67, the individual cremation was $300, and the urn was $0, bringing the total to $372.87 (before shipping). At CASE we were given this pamphlet and nothing more. On top of that, we had to choose between a $30+ shipping fee or driving all the way to Temecula for pickup. I thought I was making the most compassionate choice by not taking my dog's body home to wait, but I regret it. For context, The Animal Doctors - Anaheim provides a beautifully thought-out, reasonable package (when our cat passed, we received a lovely wooden box with a gold lock, memorial canvas tote, and a clay paw print included). I expected that same level of dignity here, but instead, it felt entirely corporate.

Cottage Pet Hospital - Prescribed my kitten a "supplement" two times the recommended dosage. Made her deathly ill.

She lived a long, beautiful life full of adventures and spent every day protecting her "boy" from the moment we adopted her until her very last breath. As you can imagine, trying to find a veterinary hospital open on a Sunday, on Mother's Day, and one that could handle such a painful moment with compassion, was not easy. Somehow, we found The Cottage, and I truly believe we were meant to. From the moment we walked in, we were met with nothing but kindness, sympathy, and empathy. The receptionist immediately cleared a private room for us so we wouldn't have to sit in the general waiting room while grieving in front of strangers. That small gesture alone meant more than they probably know. Every single staff member we encountered was gentle, patient, and compassionate. They carefully explained every step of the process, made sure we understood everything, and constantly reminded us to take all the time we needed. Most importantly, they allowed us to stay with Zoey until the very end so she knew she was never alone. After everything was completed, they continued to treat us with such care. They explained the cremation process and how we would receive her ashes back, and sent us on our way with so much grace during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. Since we were not regular clients there, I honestly thought that would probably be the last interaction we'd have with them. So when we later received a heartfelt sympathy card from their entire team, it completely filled our hearts. The fact that they took the time to not only send condolences, but also write personal notes about our sweet Zoey, a dog they had only met that same day, spoke volumes about the kind of people they are. I am beyond grateful for the compassion, dignity, and love they showed our family and our Zoey Monster. In one of the most painful moments of our lives, they gave us comfort and peace, and I will never forget that.

We've had repeated issues refilling Trifexis for our dogs, including conflicting instructions, lost documentation, and last-minute exam requirements despite recent testing. After multiple rounds of back and forth and delayed care, we've decided to move to another provider. Consistency and clear communication are essential, especially for routine medications, and unfortunately that's been lacking over time. I've also wasted several hours of time emailing, running into their office and phone calls on them. They are nice and well spoken but I just don't have time for the extra stress they've caused.
