I didn't call or make an appointment, I waited 30 minutes at the most and my frenchie was seen by Dr. Leung. Dr. Leung was very nice and explained in detail what was wrong with my dog. We had a really sick dog last week. No reason in particular, just fell ill. Dr Leung was very through, and explained what may be going on. His staff are really kind and gentle. The vet bill came out to be higher than we were expecting but I'm just glad he's feeling better. I had to put my old grey cat down because it was time. The staff showed me so much compassion. I was immediately escorted to a exam room despite a waiting room full of customers. The doctor came in and talked to me. It was reassuring and I felt better about the decision I had to make. I was given the option to stay or go. I stayed because I love my mean old cat and he seemed to be fond of me. I couldn't bear to leave him. I was provided as much time as I needed to hold him after they sedated him. They checked on me to see if I was ready. They gave my cat some medication in his vein and it was over pretty darn quick. The compassion I felt certainly made the whole process easier. read more

I started coming here during early covid because I got puppies before covid and I could not get into other offices in a timely manner including my prior vet. I kept coming here because of his Dr Leung's caring manner and reasonable prices. There are nicer hospitals, newer and more state of the art, and you can go there if you want to pay those prices, but their vets aren't better and they tend to push you to do more using their fancy equipment. Alamitos Animal Hospital is amazing. Dr. Leung is extremely caring and finds solutions to ease the financial burden as other reviewers have mentioned. I have taken my 3 cats to see him for flea medications. If it's only to get the flea prescription refilled, he does not charge for the visitation. I did not realize this until I called to confirm the status of the prescription. The staff said it was noted in my cats file, but there was no charge. I am assuming that Dr. Leung felt it was a quick 5-10 minute visit for the prescription. I have gone to a couple of different veternarian offices, and they charge for every little thing, especially a quick prescription visit. I am astounded by this, I had figured I was paying for the visit each time. I am still in shock because there aren't a lot of businesses like this anymore. I'll just keep bringing more pastries to the office. I have a friend who has a lot of cats (9 or more), and she brings them to see Dr. Leung. She has also mentioned how cost-effective it is to bring them to see Dr. Leung. The staff here are amazing and friendly. It feels like a family vibe at the office. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but I couldn't find a way to reach out to Dr. Leung directly. He's not my regular vet, but I have visited his office twice in a pinch because they take walk-ins, and I've had positive interactions with him on each of those visits. I visited Alamitos Animal Hospital today, arriving shortly before closing with my almost 6-month-old puppy and my two toddlers. I called prior to arriving to see if it was too late to come by and if I should come the following morning instead, and was told, "It didn't matter." I requested two vaccines (Bordetella & Rabies) and a fecal exam, as these were needed for occasional boarding. Because I had small children with me, I asked if I could wait in my vehicle until my dog could be seen. The receptionist said they would send someone to my car and requested I fill out their sign-in sheet with my name and reason for the visit. When the veterinary assistant came to my car, she specifically asked whether my puppy had received her other core vaccines. I explained that my puppy is a rescue, and because I am a student midwife and trained in administering injections, I had given all her other vaccinations at home according to the schedule beginning at 6 weeks, and that the boarding facility requested Bordetella and Rabies (Which she had not received), they were willing to accept my records that included the lables from the vaccination viles and dates. They also requested a fecal exam. The assistant informed me that my puppy was too young for rabies but would consult with the vet. She confirmed understanding and took my puppy inside. While waiting, I contacted the boarding facility to update them on what I was told regarding the rabies vaccination, and they confirmed that, in fact, rabies was not required at this age and that the fecal test was also unnecessary. When the assistant returned with my dog, she told me I'd need to come inside to pay, so I unloaded my toddlers in the pouring rain and came inside, where I was surprised with a bill of nearly $200. Only then was I told that my dog had been given Rabies, Bordetella, DHPP, and a deworming medication, far more than what I requested or consented to. The vet assistant who had previously been polite was now visibly annoyed with me and spoke with a dismissive attitude, even though I remained kind, calm, and understanding throughout. I repeatedly explained the misunderstanding and clarified what I had actually requested to the other employees who were present. We went back and forth a few times, and I apologized for the inconvenience. I honestly wasn't trying to be difficult and wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. (A waiting room with small children is no fun). They tried to rectify the situation, as they were working with the information they had been given and what I reported. At the end of the day, miscommunications happen. It was raining, I had chatty toddlers in my car, and it's evident that the vet assistant did what she understood. I don't fault her for that, although she could improve her composure in such situations. It wasn't personal, and I don't believe I deserved to be treated that way in front of the other customers. My children's patience was running thin, and thankfully, the receptionist eventually removed the additional charges. I cancelled the fecal exam that I didn't need and requested some documentation on the additional vaccines. Still, she refused to give me any documentation for the DHPP vaccine that was administered without my explicit consent. (I encourage the Doctor to review what I wrote down when I signed in.) I asked multiple times for any written record, even a basic visit summary, and was told I couldn't have one that included DHPP because I was not paying for the mistakenly administered vaccines. They're only concern was not providing me any details on the given injection, and no one ever apologized for the fact that my dog was given a vaccine that she had already completed. Imagine this happening to a human at the doctor's office and not receiving an apology from the care provider, only to be told you can't have anything in writing detailing what you were given. This response is alarming and not consistent with AVMA's Business and Professions Code section 4855, which states a summary is to be provided to the client upon request, including "All medications and treatments prescribed and dispensed, including strength, dosage, quantity, and frequency." Refusing documentation due to a miscommunication that resulted in the removal of fees is not lawful, transparent, or ethical. I have previously had positive experiences with the veterinarian himself, and I hope he reaches out directly, as he never came to speak with me about what was happening. I am grateful that I was not charged for the extra vaccines or deworming medication, but my dog did receive them. I want to avoid filing a formal complaint, but I'm struggling with how this situation unfolded. read more

It was so lucky to find these guys! I work just a few doors down on gardener boulevard Lord so I was looking for a convenient location to bring our new kitten in for shots and fleet medication lead medication and there was Alamitos Animal hospital. The way they are set up is so convenient they don't require you to set up an appointment for weeks or days and months in advance you just show up bring bring your animal and and they take really good care of you. I don't think I waited over 20 minutes paperwork and all included to see doctor Albert. He was very polite very thorough went over everything I needed to know having a new kitten in the house treated treated Oreo and got us out right away! When you're looking for a vet keep in mind that most people only see a vet in bad circumstances sanchez so reviews reviews maybe a little jaded. There are even some harsh reviews on their there yell page here but what I what I experienced was nothing more than more than great service and and polite treatment by everybody involved. I didn't price shop for the cheapest vet or anything like that because honestly this is a new family member and is long as I feel like my animal is treated well I'm not worried about the cost but in the end it was fairly reasonable and I'm going back today for Oreos 2nd set of shots. read more

Almost 6 years and 5 additional cats later, I still exclusively use Dr. Leung as my veterinarian. He continues to be an honest and upstanding veterinarian. When I was still learning about cats, I took in my first cat Lily for almost everything that worried me. There were multiple times when Dr. Leung told me that he has cats too and whatever I was worried about was a normal thing. He said I could just go home and not worry about it and the time he spent chatting with me was free of charge. He also gave me the option to do all the tests that I was thinking about doing for Lily. He told me some of the tests are kind of pricey and his professional opinion was that they weren't necessary at that moment. Well, it turns out he was right every time and my Lily is still as healthy as can be, maybe just a bit grouchier and meaner than before simply because she hates that other cats are around now. You don't know how much of a blessing it is to have a veterinarian who doesn't try to upsell everything and gouge me. A majority of my cats were feral kittens that I rescued from my backyard. It's quite costly for me to have them all and I can barely afford caring for and spoiling all of them but I could never give them up. Thanks Dr. Leung for being such an awesome vet!
