First off, I want to say I did not have a problem with most of the staff and I felt like my dog got great care. My issue is that I asked for a quote on my dogs teeth cleaning procedure. I received a quote of around $550. The person that gave me, the quote said that it could be higher based on teeth needing to be pulled, which I understood. Once the vet had my dog under anesthesia, he did call me and tell me that there were eight teeth that need to be pulled. He said he was kind of alarmed by that, but I told him to go ahead and pull the teeth. He talked about x-rays and filling some pockets with a material to help further protect the dog from gum, disease, and teeth issues. My exact words to him were just pull the teeth for now. To my surprise when I picked up the dog, the bill was $1500. I spoke to the vet and another employee about my bill. They gave me a $70 credit. I do not feel that I should have to pay for the x-rays or any fees associated with filling the pockets. The teeth extractions amount of to $600. At the most my bill should've been $1200. Lesson learned. Going forward, make sure this office sends you a text message with the exact cost of anything that will be done to your pet. In my opinion, that should be a standard process. read more

Took my dog to have eye surgery here. He came out looking good. He has his regular vaccinations here, and they do just fine. Lastly, I was taking him to be groomed here; they do a decent job, and the price is very reasonable. However, I now need to look for a new vet for two reasons. (1) I looked at getting his Simparica trio prescription filled at Chewy because, frankly, they are cheaper online, and almost immediately after, Westside sends out an email that they will not be allowing you to get your prescriptions filled elsewhere because (my paraphrase: they insist on getting their beak wet.) (2) After they've precluded me from buying online I tried to buy 6 months of my dog's meds here last week, and they gave me a box with 3 loose pills (still in blister pack, but torn apart) rather than the sealed manufacturer's box of six that I'd paid for. I balked, and I was given the sealed box of 6 pills I'd paid for. At issue #1, I was disappointed. There's a reason we don't allow human doctors to sell medication, because we are trying to avoid a financial motive in prescribing. While we don't legally require it for vets, it seems Westside specifically INSISTS on wanting a financial conflict. However, it's at #2 that I'm well and truly alarmed. Mistakenly giving me a 3-month supply versus a 6-month supply could just be a silly error. One would hope that when filling a prescription, there would be some attempt to verify, but why was this box clearly not factory sealed? If you're going to tell me you can't pass along prescriptions to other outlets because you don't trust them, you had better be cleaner than Caesar's wife. Which means you're not trying to sell people loosies. read more

Last week we needed to board our6 year old black mouth cur "Curry " for a week. We pulled into the parking lot and were met with a nice employee who was wearing a mask and using their leash she took our baby into the building. After a week we picked up "curry" who had been recently been shampooed and had nice looking toe nails again. They took our credit card and without any hassle we were on our way. Everything was professional and well done. We will use the Westside again. read more

West side animal hospital is one of the most expensive, vets in the area. They are not a true hospital just a vaccine clinic that will refers you to the hospital on maplecredt road for ANYTHING other than vaccines. There hours are very limited, there are closed for a long lunch every day so if you need care during your lunch break from work this is not a vet for you. Westside Animal Hospital is truly AWESOME! I have taken my dog, Aurora there since we adopted her 3 years ago. I had not had a dog (or any other animal) since I was very young and never an indoor dog, so I came with a lot of questions, concerns and worries. I have never felt ashamed to call in and ask my sometimes "odd" questions nor have I been given an "I don't know". The Office staff are Wonderful and have gotten right down on the floor to welcome Aurora. The Office staff are regularly able to answer my questions and concerns without a standard "let me check with the vet", unless needed, and are willing to share their own similar experiences...which in my view, goes to show how competent they are! Also, I never feel rushed whether I'm in the office or calling in. GROOMING, I just can't say enough great things about Rose Marie! If Rose Marie is on her way in when I am dropping Aurora off she comes up to the front office to greet us and with all of the animals she takes of she still knows Aurora by name and Aurora is excited to see her. Having Aurora excited to see her Groomer places my confidence in her and takes away my anxiety away from leaving her, especially since she stays for several hours. During her day with Rose Marie, Aurora can get in any vet checks or annual updates and I get my errands ran. The pricing really can't be beat, typically without requesting any extras, it is one third of what I have paid at many other groomers in the past. My wish, for Westside, would be for them to add Daycare/Day Play and a Self dog wash - for emergencies. I cannot say enough about Dr. Janet Houghton, DVM. She is welcoming, caring, funny, understanding, and extremely informative. I was impressed by the way Dr. talked WITH us and not AT us about Sosa's health and the way to proceed with is care; I felt a part of the entire process. I told my daughter as we were driving home that I wish Dr. Houghton could be MY doctor!! 17 year old Sosa (Pug) has found a dear friend! Thank You, to the smiling, welcoming staff too!!! Can't say enough good things about this clinic. I've been coming here since we moved to Fort Wayne a year ago and have had a great experience every time. They correctly diagnosed my labs torn ACL, recommended ab outstanding surgeon and did excellent follow up care, answering all my questions. I had to board my lab there during his healing when I had to go out of town and they were so awesome with him. Most recently my other dog broke his toenail really bad and high up. Dr. Trapp was so great with him, gave us options, and I felt completely comfortable leaving him there to go under sedation to take care of the nail. I'm usually nervous leaving my dogs behind, but I felt comfortable knowing they would take good care of him. Then just this morning while starting out on a car trip, I saw my dog had ripped the scab off of his toe and was bleeding all over the car, I called them as we drove and I was able to bring him right in for a quick wrap job. We love him, his caring and gentleness with our cats is extraordinary and though I am sure the other two Vets are just as caring we always request Dr. Fox. We live out in Yoder, and even though there are closer Veterinary Hospitals etc., we are happy to make the trip.
