Small simple menu, but it meant that there was attention to the little things! Homemade biscuits and a homemade gravy. It was amazing. And Large! That's your warning. My kiddos devoured a short stack and sausage. I was even envious of the corned beef hash at a table nearby. There is one thing of note. Stopped by this diner on August 13th. Ordered lunch consisting of French Dip with fries, followed by a slice of apple pie. Everything tasted really good and my server was very attentive. She checked back with me after serving my meal to make sure all was good. Then she followed up a 2nd time to see if I needed anything else. The dining area was clean in appearance and even though my lunch was later in the day past normal lunch hour, the place was consistently busy with customers for a Monday. read more

The Yelpers have it correctly, we stopped this morning on the suggestion of the mgr. of the local Shell station. What a find! Mt eggs and corn beef hash and eggs were great. The rye toast was a nice change + the cup of sausage gravy was tops. My wife likes her hash browns crispy and sne said that they and her omelette plus her decaf coffee was wonderful. Another great thing, the 4 ladies who served worked together in helping each other. You don't see that kind of teamwork much these days. Great restaurant! read more

We ended up here because the other popular place downtown was slammed, and it was awesome! I had the Biscuit Skillet. Fried potatoes, biscuit, gravy, sausage, eggs and cheese stacked high. My Husband has the Sunrise Omelet which was stuffed with ham, bacon, sausage, cheese and hash browns and topped with sausage gravy. It was huge, and a huge success! Firstly, you have to understand that growing up Ma and Pa didn't have a lot. A roof over our heads and the basics were accounted for, but we had to be as frugal as possible to get by. Corned beef was a staple on our breakfast table, Sis made sure of that. THE WESTSIDE DINER TOOK ME BACK. Very disappointing. We do like to go out for breakfast as it usually can be prepared by the worst cooks. It seems this doesn't apply to Grayling. My son who lives here is always making the trip to Traverse City when he goes out to eat. After spending a week in Grayling I now know why. West side diner is a prime example. The food was terrible, the service just passable. We had eggs, sausage gravy, pancakes, a selection of the menu. All the meals were a waste of time and materials. How does one screw up scrambled eggs? They manage. The eggs(2) seemed to be the size of quail eggs and tasteless and plain as I have ever had. My wife's hash was over cooked and all that entails. I had some pancakes that I could bested by simply microwaving something from the 7-11. If you are stuck in grayling and need breakfast , go to McDonalds. read more

Thank you Yelp. We visited the Dinner today based on your reviews and was not disappointed. There were four of us. Two had the daily special which was Hot Roasted Pork sandwiches with mashed potatoes and tons of gravy. The meat was at least 2" high. The Ladies had the house special hamburgers with cheese and homemade chips both said they would order them again. Our waitress Aimee had a very friendly smile andtook real good care of us. We got there at 11:30. The place was packed. Walking through I noticed that lots of folks were enjoying huge breakfasts. May try one next time. read more

Usually I have great reviews but recently when I have eaten here it's been a little sloppy. Last week we dined in and order was messed up food took about an hour and a half to get and we were 1 of 4 tables in the place. Today I ordered food for pick up got placed on hold and forgotten about for literally an hour, I drove to the place told the lady who answered the phone that I was still on hold waiting to place my order, she looked at the phone like she was dazed and confused and said oh sorry! Like she didnt gibe two shits, I placed my order which took a half hour and got home and my order was wrong again. Not a happy customer at all it might help to run a business with employees that actually like there job and cooks that can read!!! read more

I have been coming to this establishment for well over 20 years. First as a national guardsman and now as a tourist. Come hungry, the portion sizes are large. Also, if there are no seats available, be patient they clear out pretty quickly. The staff is always pleasant and very accommodating when seating is minimal. They were training a new cook when we were there and that stopped a 5 star rating as some rookie mistakes were made. But, they were fixed quickly! The food is comfort food and always hot and tasty. I've eaten here a few times and everything is always so good. Their breakfast is great, but I like ordering lunch items because they give you homemade french onion dip for your chips. It's really good and I've never been to any other restaurant that does that. My favorite menu item so far is the philly beef and swiss. Whoever the cook is knows how to season meat. It's a tasty sandwich. I forget if it's the BLT or the stacked club, but they're huge! The chicken sandwich is pretty good. The staff is friendly. I haven't had a bad thing to say yet. read more

This place is PHENOMENAL!!! Big find in a small town! I recommend the "He-Man" Breakfast: 2 pancakes, 2 sausage links, 2 bacon slices, choice of potato, and 2 pancakes for less than $10. Food is very good, and you can tell it has w homemade touch (especially the pancakes). It seems like only one or two servers are working at any given time, but the food still is out pretty fast. I had heard good things about this place...but it didn't live up to expectations! I stopped by there on a Friday after a friend recommended it to me. I was hoping that had AYCE fish but they didn't. They advertise 3 pice meal with salad bar for 8.99...then they tell you that it isn't Cod, but is Pollock. Cod is 2 buck more. The waitresses seemed more interested in chatting with their friends/family members than they were with taking care of customers. Meal came with salad bar...which was very sparse. They didn't even have onions for the salad. When my fish came out, it didn't look good at all. It was fried very dark and well done. I don't even think it was the Cod that I had paid extra for. My glass remained empty during the meal, there was no butter served with my baked potato...which is fortunate I guess since the potato was too cold to melt the butter. The waitress never checked back with me until the very end when it was time to deliver the check. I thought about complaining, but it was very obvious that nobody would care!
