Your tennis store in Westwood! Westwood Sporting Goods has a wide selection of tennis rackets and equipment, plus they provide services such as restringing and grip replacement. I came here on a Saturday afternoon to have my old tennis racket restrung. While I was here, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, which was important for me as I am a beginner tennis player. They provided the best recommendations for the restringing and since my racket's grip was worn out, they also recommended I replace it. My racket was ready in three days, on Tuesday morning, and they charged me about $47 for both services. I am very satisfied with the service and quality. Great prices and helpful staff! read more

My racket needed some serious TLC! When you first walked in, and see the 3 stringing machines, all sorts of rackets on the wall, and the feel of the store being there for years, I knew I was at the right tennis shop. How I missed playing tennis over the pandemic. I had an itch when I saw the pros play on TV tournaments. So I found this place by researching because my racket needed a serious refresh before I got back to the courts! Normally I would go to a Sports Chalet but they didn't exists anymore!! Haha and the sound of supporting local businesses sounded good to me! I asked for the strings to be replaced with synthetic Wilson strings and a new grip, mine was already falling apart. They ask for the tension that you want based on your style of play to make sure you have what you need! Left it during lunch time on a Monday, and they were very busy and thought it would be ready on a Wednesday but they ended up finishing my racket for the next day! New strings and grip, felt like my racket was brand new. New strings and grip was $46 out the door! $36 for the synthetic strings and $10 for new grip. They also have a tennis racket demo program that you can rent a racket for around $3 a day, as many as you want and when you spend $25, it can go towards the purchase of a new racket. Really one of the better locations on the west side for tennis needs. Rick, as previously mentioned in other reviews, really is very personable and knowledgeable. I came in to re-string my sons racquet as my usual place was closed. They had a pretty good selection of items on display and two stringing machines. This store is primarily a Tennis shop and not a sporting goods as the signage indicates which is fine by me. The only thing I wished they had that my usual place has would be the label showing string, tension and date of the strings used when installed. Otherwise, it took two days to have the racquet re-strung and overgripped. Job was done well to spec. I have a feeling we will be back. read more

Rick and his staff are absolutely amazing!!! They do a superb job stringing rackets and there really isn't anyone else my tennis hubby of a coach would allow touch my racquets. Seriously though, they were amazing and rushed a strong job for me since I had league playoffs. I won all three matches and I would be remiss if I did not say this shop had a part to play as the feel was perfection. I might need to make it a habit to restring prior to important matches from now on . They're super friendly and this is such a cute shop. A Spartan, no nonsense set up. These guys are the best stringers in town and will guide you through the nuances of getting the right string set ups. Super knowledgeable and can source any racket at much cheaper prices than you'll find online or at other tennis shops around town. I have been getting my racket strung here for years. They are always on time and the stringing is top-notch. Westwood is not that close to my house timewise but worth the extra drive. Rick knew me by name quickly and knows my strings and tension. They'll help out regulars for sure. One time I dropped off a racket, played at Westwood and picked the strung racket up after my match so I did not need to make two trips. Thanks, Rick! Bought it in 1994 from this shop from who I assume is Rick's dad and he was awesome!!! My daughter is taking up tennis now and using this racket which is still in good shape. Definitely going to take her here if she wants to pursue the sport. Great memories of this shop. read more

They have a wide selection of rackets including newer models such as Wilson RF97. They have a nice jar of single overgrips which are of great quality and affordable. Excellent location in Westwood so you can do business here and carry on with your day. They also have pink balls for support of breast cancer causes. Rick and his staff are amazing!!! I decided to start learning to play tennis so I visited the store. It is truly a gem! Not only is Rick the owner so knowledgable but he is the nicest guy. Not only did he answer all my questions (since I'm a beginner I know nothing) but he leant me 3 nice racquets to try as demos for a couple of days to see what I like. When I went to the courts I noticed that another player was also using one of his demos (what a small world). I went back and ended up purchasing a racquet from him. He was so kind and understanding with what I was looking for and my budget as well. He has literally everything in the store and he is so knowledgeable. He told me he would string the racquet I purchased and was trying his best to make me a happy costumer. I am so happy I found this place. This place is ok.... it's basically the closest stringer near me so I use them out of convenience. It's been here for a while so going there feels like you're stepping back in time to the 70s. What's annoying is that they are cash only (I understand this for something less than $5 but I always have to make a special trip to the ATM just for this) and the turnaround time is quoted at 3-4 days usually (e.g., if you drop off Saturday expect it Wednesday). Also I've been there numerous times and the guy who's always there (presumably the owner) keeps asking me if I've strung a racket there before... anyway, I usually pay $40-50 per stringing which is fair. read more

I'm about to start my first tennis lessons and my friend procured a racket for me, but whoever put a grip on it didn't do it right. I was going to get a grip off of Amazon.com assuming the prices would be best there. Life got in the way and I ran out of time to have it shipped to me before I needed to use the racket. I went over to this little shop to check it out and I couldn't have made a better decision! Not only were the prices just as good, the shop owner was super helpful and let a beginner like me feel out the different kind of grips (they have a ton of rackets ready for you to try) and answered my questions about grip vs. overgrip. When I made my choice, he expertly applied the grip for me at no extra charge. Excellent knowledge and attitude! This will definitely be my shop as my tennis needs grow. read more

Been out of the tennis game for a while but my comeback tour officially began here when I picked up three demo racquets. (Three is the standard amount here.) I think it was $5 if you returned it like three days later or something which is pretty reasonable haha. They seem to have all the current primo racquets in stock, but not in stock for the demo program, though they offered similar sticks which got the job done. Nice people, seem to know their stuff. They simply are the best stringers in LA. I wish they had a bit larger selection of strings and didn't mark up the strings as much as they do, but if you want the best you're going to pay for it. You can purchase your own strings and they'll charge only for labor if you want as well. $17. That seems to be the going rate for a good job. You can find $10 stringing jobs, but I've never heard anyone that was happy with them. So if you don't mind the extra work, you can buy your strings from tenniswarehouse.com and have Rick & Co. string it for you. read more

Fabulous, warm customer service. As a new to tennis customer, they were very patient and informative.

Do NOT expect to receive any help or guidance at this tennis shop (maybe it's because I'm a person of color and a female, who knows what I was being profiled for). There were three men in the store, two older gentlemen (one of whom is Ric, the owner), and one younger man. All three were stringing rackets. I went in motivated to choose and purchase a racket. I asked if someone could help me choose a racket for purchase, and I asked what I should be looking for. I explained that I wanted to understand the difference between the models of Babolats (which I used to hit with when I was younger). I said I didn't have much time to go back and forth to the store to pick up and drop off demo rackets so just wanted to understand the differences before purchasing. The younger gentleman offered to show me the pre-string rackets, of which they had an inventory of 10-15 rackets (no Babolats). He specifically showed me a Head racket, which he described as having a flexible frame which offers less control. I asked him how the babolats differed and he said the babolats have a Stiffer frame, which is more of a "player's feel". When I asked what that meant, he said, that's just what my boss says, he's the one that plays tennis, I don't play tennis. So I said I would to talk to his boss to understand which racket I should buy. So then I approached Ric (the boss) and asked what the differences are between the babolat models and what are the kinds of specs I should look for, his response was: all the rackets are different. And I said, how should I decide between them, what's specs should I look for? And his response was just, you just have to demo them. He was completely dismissive, didn't give me the time of day, was rude, unprofessional, and completely unhelpful. I then went to BusterPro in Brentwood, asked the woman there to help me buy a racket. She started by asking me how often I play and how long I had been playing (as one would expect a professional to do). She then suggested that we start by choosing a weight that felt comfortable, then comparing 3-4 rackets to test weight distribution, and then narrowing down based on grip size and size of the face. Took me less than 15 minutes to choose a racket I felt good about and make a purchase. I will never return to Westwood Sporting goods due to their complete lack of professionalism and apparent favoritism. Sorry Ric if you were having a bad day, or you are clearly understaffed at your shop, but that is just terrible customer service to be dismissive of your customers and not be helpful. You are a specialized tennis shop, and should actually be providing specific advice to your customers. read more
