There is no charge to get in. The paved road around the lake has been split into a one-way driving/biking road and a with an adjacent walking lane. There is a Hike/bike trail called The Freedom Trail that borders this park. Metro Parks Summit County is going to add a connector trail between them in 2026. The Freedom Trail in this area is a rail trail, so it is pretty flat. There is an area called Tallmadge Meadows that to me is a separate park, because the two areas have very different prior ownership and history, but Metro Parks considers them to be the same park. The parking for Tallmadge Meadows is right around the corner from South River Rd. on South Main St. (Rt 91). There is also a trailhead in Munroe Falls for the Summit County Bike and Hike Trail. It is about a ¼ mile North of South River Rd and runs along the Cuyahoga River. I used to be a Firefighter/EMT in Munroe Falls and it was not unusual for us to get called out to the "Metro Park" and have to ask, "which one"? All 3 of these are great parks and I consider myself luck to live in between them.

Its COVID season, I haven't gotten out anywhere so this is the best I can do since I haven't eaten outside since Feb. This was nice but, of course, catered with my own cooking. I wish I could Yelp my own cooking, a clear 1 star.

The O'Neil Woods loop is a nice shorter moderate hike; good elevation change, some steeper portions and a variety of scenery. Starting at the parking lot and taking the trail at the far end of the lot you will have a fairly easy descent on a wider trail through the woods. After you cross the road you will have some nice views of the river and then the big red barn. Crossing back over the road is a narrower trail with steep switchbacks that will get your blood pumping as you climb about 300 vertical feet. At the top you will stay with the narrow trail through the woods and cross a bridge before completing the loop. Around the parking lot is a number of benches and picnic tables, including a picnic area overlooking a nice little gorge; looks like a very nice place to grab some food or just hang out. O'Neil Woods is not huge, there is just one trail that actually presents a nice challenge. Well worth a visit if you are looking for a shorter hike that will still give you a good workout.

The low area, along side the river, offers a flowered grassy fertile meadow and river views. the rocky hillside climbs give a cool overlook. The trail takes an hour if you are an accomplished hiker. It is not wheelchair friendly or a good choice for small children or elderly hikers. It is a good workout that begins in a large gravel parking lot and follows along and crisscross a stream for 1/2 mile east, you'll see evidence of former storm washouts and erosion. Then the trail follows along some steep uphill climbs through a stand of tall pines into a high meadow, and a short spur trail takes you to a area called "top of the world" with beautiful sunsets and views. The winding, steep trail down will test your boots. When I was preparing for the Appalachian Trail and hikes out west, I used this trail to train and test out gear. Do not attempt bicycles... you'll hurt someone.

One of my absolute favorite metro parks in cuyahoga valley national park…read more There are two loops here - one is about 3 miles and one is closer to 1 mile. It's awesome it's a loop- so it's a one way trail, especially during the pandemic. I don't often have other people coming the opposite way at me. The trail runs near a creek into the forest and into the prairie, and back to the parking lot. There's a decent amount of elevation and it can occasionally get muddy following rains, so hiking boots would be best. It's not a paved trail. There are also no trash cans also the trail, but one at the beginning next to the parking lot. There's also an outhouse there. I never have an issue finding parking either, because it's a fairly big lot. I love Hampton hills and it's one of my go to trails in the area.

By combining the 3 trails I got a very nice 7 mile hike with about 800 feet of vertical. The 3 trails provide a nice variety with plenty of climbs, woods, stream crossings and a nice challenge overall along with some easier portions that provide nice recovery. This area gets a good bit of traffic at the Everett Covered Bridge and the stream under it, however once you get onto the trails this is one of the less traveled area of the National Park. The trails are easy to follow, but there is some of the more challenging hiking, especially on the Perkins Trail portion of the hike. Since the 3 trails sit as loops next to each you can change up the hike you do, depending on the direction you go and which loops you take. There are a couple of places where you might do a short section of road, or abandoned road, for the most part you can hike the trails without interuption. The 3 trails around Everett Covered Bridge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park offer a great hiking challenge and are well worth a day hike. This area is a bit out of the way so you can usually find some solitude. You start and finish at the Covered Bridge which provides plenty of scenic views and there is a nice short trail along the stream.

Near Everett rd covered bridge the trail is literally 1 ft wide bordered on both sides by 3 ft high weeds. Oh yeah and plenty of poison ivy near the bottom of the weeds. If you're lucky the park MAY trim the weeds once a year. And the place is infested with ticks. I used to take my dogs here 3-4 times per week but will only go once every few weeks because they would always have ticks on them. Plus there are much nicer trails pretty close by (Hinckley metro parks is a few miles away, wide bridle trails, zero ticks and well maintained). On top of that, Peninusla police recently decided to be d-bags and put barrels and no parking signs pretty much everywhere.
