I'm a disabled veteran and have certain accommodations that I'm learning how to ask for. I was worried it wasn't for me. But they reassured me I belong there and can benefit greatly. Taking the time to listen to someone is rare these days. But it's the difference between someone being just a data point vs a person for a company. Exceptional customer service is an art form. I am disabled. In my opinion, I had to fight hard for reasonable accommodations. I also had to pay additional $ to have my caregiver(s) attend the gym with me. I was constantly met with strict rules and policy. Also, some of the classes cost additional $ on top of the very expensive membership. In my opinion, there is no benefit to being a member. I would not recommend the Weymouth Club. Although, I did have a good experience with Bay State Physical Therapy. read more

The Weymouth Club offers a comprehensive fitness experience with amenities comparable to a YMCA, including a well-equipped gym, group fitness classes, pool, food/snacks, and drinks. We came in last year during the summer to bring our kid for the Ripples swim class. We decided to take a tour and liked the features. Staff was very friendly but some miscommunication between the swim classes and regular facility. I think it's because it's seasonal. Notably, the club features a dedicated daycare, allowing parents to work out while their children are supervised. During the summer months, members can enjoy an outdoor pool and a splashpad, providing a refreshing escape for the whole family. I went with my son as we booked the court on catch corner. However, the booking was never confirmed and so was cancelled. As a result, I went inside and asked if we could pay to come in similar to the cost of the rental or obtain a day pass. The answer was no, we don't do day passes. Disclaimer, I'm not a member of this gym, I received PT at Bay State PT housed in WC. Although I'm a member of the Emilson Y, which has many of the same member amenities as WC and more, I was considering switching gyms. That changed after my encounter with Ashely at the front desk of WC. I had been receiving treatment there, 3x a week for about 2 months. I announced my destination to the concierge desk every appointment until I became familiar with a couple girls at the front and started to only announce where I was going to the ppl I didn't know at the desk. I want to mention, I wear a unique and bright winter coat & I'm one of the very few Black people who visit this gym, it is not hard to spot me or remember my face. I stand out. I came in for PT per usual one day and 2 people were at the front desk. One who knows my face and another who didn't. I made contact with, smiled at and saw acknowledgment from the one I knew so I shuffled along to my appointment. As I walked off to the destination i obviously knew where, I heard a condescending "do you know here you're going?". I looked back in a bit of pain from my surgery and answered yes I do, physical therapy. At that point, I thought I'd be left alone to go off on my way. Nope. Ashley, who I later found out is the front desk manager thought it a good idea to make a spectacle of me. I already stand out. She proceeded to berate me for not stating my business. I told her I recognized the other woman who was standing next to her, which is why I didn't say anything, but normally I would have. She thought it a good idea to go back-and-forth with me on this point. So after that embarrassing and to me unnecessary exchange, let's fast forward. Couple things I wanna mention: on this particular day the therapy pool heater was broken and Amanda, who is also a manager at the gym said it was OK for the physical therapy ladies and I to warm up in the hot tub. So this extended our appointments a bit. Another thing is as I mentioned I'm African-American, after I shower, wash and blow dry my hair some time will be taken because my hair is extremely porous. I come back to my next appointment and I'm pulled into the office at my physical therapy. I'm told there are concerns about how much time I'm spending at the gym. Mind you I receive a medical ride (which isn't anyone's business and I shouldn't have to announce it, but unfortunately, here I am explaining myself because of how I was made to feel) and I have to wait until they come to pick me up sometime so I may sit around the café. I found this extremely unsettling because I asked the other women who attend physical therapy with me if they had been hounded on how much time they spent at the gym and of course the answer was no. This felt as though she targeted me. This did nothing for my mental health, btw. Having said all that. PT is ok, although I was a bit disheartened when my physical therapist said she preferred to stay out of it rather than advocate for her patients, but I will NOT be joining WC after being made so uncomfortable. Although I enjoy my physical therapy, I was not crazy about my physical therapist, not advocating for me but telling me that she opted to stay out of it. That didn't feel great either, but that's neither there. I would like to add that I had a word with Ashley's manager (Wes, I believe), who was very apologetic and empathetic and assured me my interaction did not reflect the club's values. Thank you for the response Jeff. My apologies to the innocent staff I may have misnamed. I have difficulty remembering. As I mentioned, Wes was kind and assured me it was not the club's overall attitude but no, my feelings of embarrassment and triggering for essentially being accused of stealing services I'm not entitled to were not resolved. Sitting with that incident after the fact upset me more and more. I still have to go there and remember the incident although I make sure to announce myself now whether I recognize faces or not. I am visiting here in Massachusetts from Florida and playing occasional tennis elsewhere. I needed a racquet strung. I called the Weymouth club and was greeted by a woman who quoted me a price of 25 dollars if I supplied my own string; (2 packs supplied.) I was happy with such a reasonable price. I dropped the racquet off and was told to fill a little form with my name, phone number, racquet tension and price quoted. They would call me when the job was complete. Four days go by, no call. I called on the fourth day and was told the racquet was ready and now the price had doubled to 50 dollars. I asked why and the girl at the front desk said the woman who strings the racquets had a difficult time with this particular frame and had to use some type of bracket on the stringer. I asked to speak with the woman and was told she wasn't available. I asked the girl if the stringer could give me a call when she had time and was told she would give her the message. Again, no call. When I got to the club, I was told the woman was giving clinics or something and was very busy. Here is my issue...If you receive a quote over the phone with any type of transaction and there is some kind of monetary issue, shouldn't you receive a courtesy call explaining what happened asking if you still want to move forward? Apparently at the Weymouth Club, courtesy with this woman doesn't exist. This is a matter entirely on principal, nothing else. This is not a difficult racquet to string. I have a simple tabletop stringer with a drop weight and string these racquets all the time. I never would have moved forward if only I had received a call and shopped elsewhere. By the way, while I was there, I looked at the stringing machine and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Maybe this is why she had such a difficult time. Perhaps the club should invest in a modern electronic stringing machine eliminating difficult stringing issues. In the end it cost 70 dollars to string my racquet with zero recourse. WOW! Beware. My husband and I were members for a year and are devastated that we now live 30 minutes away. We are struggling to find a gym with the same amenities that is as well kept as WC. The staff is always friendly and willing to help, the locker rooms/steam & Sauna are always SPOTLESS, and the equipment is clean and well maintained. During our year membership, we primarily used the weight floor and Sauna, but they have dozens of other offerings. They continued to make efforts to better the facility based off of feedback and trends they noticed. You absolutely get what you pay for here, I cannot recommend WC enough. read more

Three word sound bites: Netflix-enabled treadmills, wicked clean pool, I can go on, but the review will get tough to read. Anyways, you know how one of the advantages of having a dog is you are essentially forced to go for a walk, however short, regardless of the weather or other factors? Part of paying immoderate rates for a gym is that it's an extra kick in the butt to get whoever's it's attached to in the door. Remember what I said about Netflix enabled treadmills? There's nothing wrong with a treadmill at Planet Fitness, but when you can watch Jeopardy! or a Chopped marathon, it helps to distract you, as opposed to the flashing amber lights telling you there's 51:47 left in your workout and you've only burned 24 calories. Then again, watching Gordon Ramsay cook a steak might make leave you hungry and craving a 24oz steak... well at least you burned some calories first, right? It's also cool that some of their "cable" machines aren't cable-driven at all. They use air pressure instead, so you don't get the effect of momentum helping you with the weight For pools, they have at least three (not including the splash pool or the outdoor which is closed for the time being). I've only used the large lap pool, and can only speak for it. I am continually amazed by how sparkly clean the water is. 8 lanes 25 yards long, and I can see clearly from one corner to the next! Water temperature is always comfortable too! One more thing: I swim laps, so it's nice that there are separate pools geared more for the kids. There are some nice bonuses too: there are lockboxes in the locker rooms and in the lobby, as well as a steam room, dry heat room (whatever it's called), and a jacuzzi. Oh yeah, and everything is wicked clean! If you just want to swim or use the equipment your membership will cover it. Then there are the extras, as these will add up to a pretty penny. Personal training, tennis, other classes, etc? get ready to cough up a terrific amount of dough. There are some free classes, such as spinning! Though, for the money, there are just a couple extras that'd be nice. Specifically, I would like to have a towel service so my fellow members and I wouldn't have to carry wet towels home. It would also be nice if it was open 24 hours, especially for those that work wonky hours. To be fair though, it is open pretty early and closes late most days. Finally, the staff is incredibly nice and helps out when and wherever they can. So: you really have to evaluate what you need, whether or not the cost will get you in the door, and if you will take advantage of any classes. It is possible to have a couple free days, and when you join there is a 10-day money-back guarantee. So, if you think this might be what you need, give it a try, and decide for yourself. read more

Me and my husband just got registered to the club! I have to say the following: A) very clean and neat throughout B) the tennis courts are very nicely maintained! C) so many sports options and classes D) great pricing! I had asked around on other clubs but when i saw them in person, they did not worth the money. First of all, if you do not play tennis or any other sport, you are not using the pool, or you do not attend classes, this is clearly the wrong place, but this is not the fault of the club to rate it low. It means you need to go to an ordinary gym. Secondly, because they do not say the pricing over the phone, this is not a fault. My husband owns his food supply business and when someone calls who is not a customer, you do not give the prices out unless you have a meeting with them first. So yes, the club wants to do the same because they need to show you around to justify the amount they ask. A price without you seeing it in person means nothing. By the way, Andrea did tell me the price over the phone and i had done my homework, i had researched about the club, so it was easy for me to make my mind up. Thirdly, i do not know about unfriendly management because from the front desk girls to the membership department to the actual owner that i met today while at the club, everybody was beyond awesome!! Not recommended to anyone who wish to sign up at this club. Me and my spouse signed up for about a month. There are serious lack of equipments at this gym center for abs, arms and core work out, so much that I would not consider this a gym. We are kind of forced to use the swimming pools only. It is always a hustle for us to reserve to use the pool lane together with this front desk heavy set Asian lady who wore eye glasses with shoulder lengthened dark hair (notice that the APP does not support the function of reserving as a party), She presented herself with a fake smile and a tone of extreme passive aggressiveness and condescending. She makes up her own rules conflicting her own front desk colleagues such as me and my spouse can not share a pool lane. Lastly, there are always swimming lessons for kids or teenagers which take up 2/3 of the swimming pool lanes. It will leave you with 1 lane seldom 2 lanes for you to swim together with a stranger for 30 minutes limit and you pay a ridiculously amount of membership fee to be treated like this. PROS: Great facility. The classes and instructors are awesome. They have so much energy and really know how to get you amped up. My favorite classes are Amy's because she's really an athlete. I really do feel much stronger after doing her classes for a month. I tried a personal training session with Dominic and he really is an expert with arms. I highly recommend him. I also did a group session with Jenny P and plan to book more with her soon. CONS: Please add more evening classes (after 6 pm) for people that work. I'm always rushing to get to classes. read more

This place is awesome! They have everything you could ever want in a gym. Aside from the standard gym equipment they have a huge class schedule. They also have a separate Hot Yoga studio, for an extra charge, but I did a drop in and it was a decent class. The charge was $12 which is probably about the same as a yoga studio. I haven't tried the swim classes but was happy to see a number of auqafit classes. This place is close by and I'm psyched to have so many options close by. read more

Adult beginners swim class very poor. There were no private lessons and I was only allowed to schedule 4 weekly half hour group classes. There were 5 of us with different levels of comfort in the water. I learned practically nothing in the 4 weeks and there were no follow up classes. Complete waste of money. read more

Over thirty years I've been a member several times. When I left was usually from the frustration of dealing with a management that treats anyone that doesn't play tennis or shell out extra for classes as a second class member. That and the horrible treatment adults receive in the pool areas. The place frankly resembles a day care facility more than a gym, little rug rats running around out of control. I've had the little *$&# run by in the workout area close enough to be injured. With serious back issues I'd like to be able to know that if I take the time to drive over and get changed I'll be able to use the Jacuzzi or pool, half the time I could not. Ive been a member of this club dating back to about 2006 and have had some very positive experiences exercising here. This was once the gem of the Boston Metro and is still charging its customers like they remain the best. HOWEVER, over the last 10 years infants, children and very young pre teens are using the MENS locker room with or without their parents. This is simply disgraceful and the club needs to address this immediately. There is a sizable family locker room with showers and lockers yet make parents bring their little ones through the weight room, steam room, sauna, showers and locker / rest areas. Totally obscene and unacceptable. Steve used to run a fantastic operation. Not anymore. But for installing and enforcing a policy restricting (like every other major fitness club does) kids in the ADULT locker rooms, this gym might justify 4 stars. Its no equinox but does price itself like one. Jeff, thanks for the response. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask families with children under 18 to be strictly prohibited from using the ADULT locker rooms. The club is placing its members in a very uncomfortable situation by jot enforcing policies so common at health clubs like yours from coast to coast. I've been a member for over seven years now, so they must be doing something right. Cons: *most of the staff can be mildly rude and personality-free, would it kill the on floor trainers to smile once in awhile? i've seen the same faces there on a regular basis for a few years now and rarely even get a nod of recognition. i find the maintenance staff the most friendliest people there, always smiling and polite *overcrowded - do the owners have a membership cap? *overpriced *parking blows, the lot fills up quickly on most mornings *huge fail in the recent remodeling of the men's locker room. for some bizarre reason, they took out two of the sinks, removed all the soap dispensers and reduced the sink water pressure to a mere trickle. **update: I had a fleece pullover stolen from the men's locker room recently, so I guess that's a con. apparently a member or staff has some sticky fingers. cold walk to the car, that day. Pros: *some of the staff are helpful, polite and attentive. particularly the women in the kids energy section *the kids energy section allows up to 2 hours of supervised daycare included in your "family" membership *equipment is well maintained for the most part and often updated *never really a wait to use a machine, aside from the ellipticals *they keep the temperature cool, which is conducive to working out in comfort. *pools are good, especially the outdoor kids one in the summer. the outdoor adult pool gets a little tight because for some reason they rope off about more than half of it for lapping, even though the indoor one is an all lap pool. *apparently they have a great tennis area, but I don't use it myself Bottom line: I use a gym to get in, do my workout and get out. Since my original review I've started using the facility more - swimming, spinning, body attack, etc... over the last few years. I think my prior review was more a reflection of my own insecurity b/c every time I've gotten out of my comfort zone and done something new - a class, asked a question about a piece of equipment, etc... it's been nothing but positive. I've become a spin regular taking classes w/many of the instructors. I will say that I think the spin room is pretty remedial and over crowded w/bikes. Even the most popular spin instructor, whose classes you can't use the online reservation - you have to call - hasn't been full. They need to pull out 10 bikes so someone isn't impaled by a bike handle. They've done a nice job modernizing other aspects of the gym- time to take it to the spin studio. (I think I had the same stereo system in high school - like mid/late 90's) read more

This review is of their youth tennis program. A few friends recommended it to me and I had heard good things, but I personally had a bad experience. I signed up my son for tennis lessons. They put him in a beginner Red Ball class. I observed him in a few classes, and realized that about half or more of the students were not able to make contact with the ball. Since my son had already taken lessons for a year at another tennis club before we moved states -- and was able to drop & hit and throw & serve (not perfectly, but more consistently), I asked the Weymouth tennis coach to evaluate him to see if he was ready to be moved up to the next Red Ball level. She said she would, but never got back to me. I observed a few more classes, asked a few more times [by email and voicemail]. Still no response. Not surprisingly, my son eventually told me he was bored of the tennis lessons and didn't want to play the games they played any more (not much hitting of tennis balls was actually happening, more throwing tennis balls to each other and running drills). So while I've already paid for a 10-week session, I consider it sunk costs and we've just stopped going. read more

I absolutely love the gym (equipment and classes) , but the price is through the roof. We signed up because of the family oriented atmosphere and there are so many things for the kids to do, but everything beyond the 2 hrs per day daycare costs extra. At the YMCA almost all their special activities and events cost little to no money. The Weymouth health club must function on those extra priced events because they are happening all the time and my kids love them, but they should honestly do them once and awhile for free or much less money for the members. It's almost the only thing they have posted everywhere.... More things to spend money on. How about something for the loyal members? Also most of the trainers there do not speak or smile at anyone. A friendly smile, or hello here or there would be nice, but it's probably not going to happen. We pay 220 for a family (husband and wife) and 3 kids ages 3, 7 and 15. Our 15 year old works out now so the membership is a little more worth it since its 3 of us. The outdoor pool in the summer is great too. And it doesn't cost extra like the one in Dedham, Ma. read more

I am shocked by all of the negative reviews and absolutely love the Weymouth club since becoming a member a few months ago. Yes it is pricey but for our family it's more than worth it for the following reasons: 1. Childcare - I have only had 1-2 times when I've tried to sign my daughter up for the energy center and they were full, overall it has never been an issue and my daughter absolutely loves going and the girls who work there are fantastic and so sweet 2. Gym / exercise classes - I only use the treadmills and go to spin classes and have been more than happy with the gyms equipment as well as the variety of spin classes and especially the fact that I don't need to get their early to reserve a bike 3. Indoor / outdoor pool - both have been great and my family and I loved using the pool this summer - even on the busy weekends we had no trouble finding a lounge chair I've belonged to a number of gyms in the Boston area and nothing can compare to the Weymouth club - yes it's expensive - but if you take advantage of what they have to offer its worth every penny! I am just sorry I didn't join earlier - take a look for yourself and don't be deterred by the negative reviews read more

We recently joined the Weymouth Club and it is an amazing resource for the area. They have a large selection of classes and equipment and programs. The Energy Center is amazing and my boys use it about 2 times a week. I wish they had some more 8am classes and also that the Energy Center would open a littler earlier for the afternoon around 2/2:30 for when the kids get out of school, at this time it opens at 3:30. Overall an amazing place to belong as a family, I call it our winter Country Club! read more

After reading some of the reviews, I can honestly say that I am stunned! This place is absolutely fantastic. Having been a member of many athletic clubs over the years, I have never seen one with such commitment to facility maintenance, operations, and programming. The entire place was extremely clean, the locker rooms were pristine, and all of the equipment I used seemed to be brand new. I came in on a "guest" pass with one of my friends who has been a member for years. Upon walking in, the staff greeted him by name and chatted us both up for a few minutes. They were extremely friendly. One of the front desk staff even gave me a tour knowing that I was only there to visit from out of state! I was quite impressed with the facilities. There were a ton of tennis courts, 3 pools, and a gorgeous fitness floor. The programs they offer appear to be endless. After a short workout on the fitness floor, I spent much of my time in one of their indoor pools. While I was there I met some of the pool staff who couldn't have been more friendly and helpful ;) After getting out of the pool I walked around the club for a bit just to get a feel for the place. This place goes above and beyond the typical gym membership. It appears to be more centered around personal relationships and a "family" feel. I felt extremely comfortable the entire time I was there. Just before leaving, we grabbed some food in the Cafe. I highly recommend the chicken club wrap! It was delicious. They also make incredible smoothies! Being from San Francisco, I have never seen such a wonderful fitness establishment. If only I could take this place with me when I go! :) read more

LOve! Love! Love! The Weymouth Club. Have been a member just about 4 years now. I started going after having my baby when she was 3 months. The Energy Center Staff made me feel safe leaving my daughter there while I worked out, showered, etc. I love that there is so much to choose from as far as cardio machines and weights. The classes get better and better, keeping up with whats with the times. I feel like I get 1st class treatment every time I enter the building as everyone there now knows me and my child. I started at power aquatics two weeks ago with my two and a half yr old. I have previously done six months of swim lessons at another facility but I was not impressed in her swim development. I am just two weeks into this class and she is jumping into the water going under while holding my hands. It is a little on the pricey size but it is well worth it. I have spent more money for the last six months trying to get her to swim. This place is definitely worth it. read more

This gym has everything you need to get in shape and stay that way. Weymouth Club also does a fanominal job of staying on top of the newest fitness trends out there! The classes are fun and challenging (Free pilates for members, Zumba, BodyAttack, and tons more) and always changing, there are tons of new cardio machines and weights. They also have an on site nutritionist which I havent tried yet but I heard good things. The entire club was recently renovated and looks great. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars was because I think the ladies showers are pretty outdated but I hear they have plans to re-do them. If you are considering joining you should go on their website and fill out the free trial membership first. The club is a little pricey but I think its definitely worth it. read more

I have never left a yelp review before, I accidentally stumbled upon a negative review while googling the energy center, went into a rabbit hole and here I am. I don't know if some of the negative reviews are from trolls representing competitors or what, but I found some of them hard to believe based my experience (member since 2005). Here's a few that stood out - Day care is an issue, I can never get a spot - I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old, I will often call the day before but not always, and ive never been turned away. This week on 2 occasions I dropped my 1 year old off at daycare without a reservation - The equipment is all used up by meatheads - What? just, what? Ive never encountered a legitimate body builder at the Weymouth Club, its not their market. Plenty of 30 & 40 somethings trying to hold onto some youth is more like it. - The facility is dirty and never updated - They put on a huge addition like 2 years ago, added the Pilates and yoga studios, they have renovated the lobby, locker rooms and main gym all in the last 5 or so years. Ive never seen a building updated so often, crazy talk. - Having things stolen from the locker room - I don't know, anything is possible, maybe get a lock. That being said, over ten years a member with my wallet in an unsecured locker and never an issue. Also, the $200 plus monthly membership tends to draw a crowd that isn't robbing lockers. My only critiques would be that they could use some incline and decline hammer strength or similar make machines, maybe im one of the alleged meatheads, if so, man is there a low bar for meatheads over there. And beer not being sold at the pool any longer has been mentioned by alot of members, I never saw anyone drinking irresponsibly, again, just not that kind of crowd. But if your at the pool for a few hours a cold beer is a nice option. Positives would take too long to write. There are better gyms out there if were just talking weights, but that's not what the WC is. If your going to use the daycare, the pools, the splash pad with kids, eat lunch, use the steam and the sauna, go in the hottub ect..... This place is where its at.... read more
