Whalers Inn is inarguably situated in one of South Australia's most spectacular coastal locations.
The food was great, however, I was disappointed with the atmosphere that was created. The loud pop music seemed at odds with the beautiful natural environment surrounding the establishment. Low volume instrumental music would be more befitting of the surroundings and more conducive to conversing with friends while dining.
There were 4 dogs on the alfresco terrace dining area when I walked up the steps. At one table 2 dogs accompanied their owners. I was intending to sit outside to enjoy the fresh air and the view of Encounter Bay and Granite Island but the dogs put me off. I did not want to sit at a table next to a dog. Dog hairs get on the floor and the chairs of their owners and some dogs slobber. I too am a dog owner, however, I don't believe that dogs and food are a good mix.
The waitress filled the dogs' water bowls using a regular restaurant water jug and empty dog water bowls were placed on top of unused tables!! In future I will patronize establishments that display higher standards of hygiene and have confidence they can do business without inviting diner's dogs along too. read more
