My daughter and I went to San Francisco, which of course meant we had to visit Pier 39! It's one of…read morethe most iconic places in the city, and it was definitely worth stopping by. We started our visit with a small boat ride that took us underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. After the boat ride, we went back to Pier 39 and spent some time walking around and taking everything in. There are tons of places to eat and plenty of souvenir shops, so there's something for just about everyone. I especially liked that there were little designated spots that said to stop and take a photo. It made it easy to capture some great pictures and remember exactly where we were. Of course, the absolute highlight for us was the sea lions! We could have watched them forever. Most of them were completely content to lay around and sleep, but there were a few especially playful ones that kept trying to push each other off the docks. It was hilarious and surprisingly entertaining to watch! If you're visiting, I definitely recommend going up to the second level to watch the sea lions. It was much less crowded up there, and we had a better view without having to fight through a huge crowd of people. We also looked for the famous musical stairs. I had seen videos of them online and expected them to be a bigger experience than they actually were. In person, they were honestly underwhelming. We walked past them two or three times before we even realized exactly what we were looking at!

Employee to customer ration was easily 50 to 1 and probably even higher than that. Anyway, went to the Men's department (escalator was out of service of course) and they went into the back to get my item. I was on a two day work trip and didn't bring a thick jacket and San Francisco had a very cold day (locals were telling me it was colder than usual) and I only had five minutes to find a jacket. The Cannery at Fisherman's Wharf is one of those places I've walked past and through more times…read morethan I can count. Long before Fisherman's Wharf became what it is today, this building was a working Del Monte fruit cannery in the late 1800s, and I've always appreciated that it was preserved rather than replaced. You can still feel that history in the brick walls and the overall layout. Over the years, the Cannery has evolved into a mix of small shops, cafés, and casual food spots, but it never feels completely disconnected from its past. I like that it's not trying too hard to be flashy or trendy. It's a comfortable, familiar stop where you can step inside, wander a bit, or grab something simple without committing to a big plan. What keeps me coming back is the setting. I often find myself lingering outside, taking in views of the bay, Alcatraz, and the constant movement along the Wharf. It's an easy place to slow down for a few minutes and remember that San Francisco is at its best when its history and everyday life coexist naturally.
