Delicious Korean fried chicken in Iowa. The customer service was good. The gochujang Korean fried chicken has a kick to it. The ambiance was clean and stylish.

Probably some of the most unfriendly service I've had in a while. The food was just thrown on the table! The food was mid at best. There was nothing special about the restaurant decor other than a spinning hologram fan with advertising. But if you want mid food with poor service this might be your kind of place.

There are a lot of choices in the area for saucy, crispy and delicious chicken wings. Daks has several options of sauces to amp up the taste of your chicken. Upon entering the hospitality is vey welcoming. The tables are well spaced to allow you to enjoy your delicious selections in a peaceful environment.

Chicken is amazing! We also go the beef fries that were delicious. The portions are massive too, we ordered way too much for two people. Will definitely be back

Family and I tried What Dak Korean Fried Chicken after school today and we loved it! So happy to have a KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) joint in town and close to us. I can see us frequently dining here. There's two kiosks to order at when you walk in to the left but you can also order at the counter. K Pop music from back in our high school days ('99) was playing and it was a perfect spot for the kids and us to hang out and wait for the food very family-friendly atmosphere Food: Bulgogi - Delicious and not as sweet as others I've tried but still has the sweetness that it's known for with a great amount of veggies as well Wings - got the 8 pc "small" half soy garlic/half spicy order and they were crispy and delicious. Definitely worth getting Pork Bao Buns - Sliced Pork Belly with their signature coleslaw and sauce drizzled inside. Hubby and I both loved it. Tteokbokki - Stir-fried rice cakes with fish cake, veggies and topped with cheese. I overheard someone saying it was too spicy for them, so wanted to just let people know that this dish has a nice kick to begin with because the sauce is made with Gochujang which is a Korean Red Pepper Paste. Can always add more spice but can't take out the spice from what the base gochujang sauce has, so you have been forewarned. It was not spicy to me at all and had a great kick with the right amount of sweet and savory from the sauce. The rice cakes were perfectly chewy as well. Korean Cheese Balls - oldest son loved this. A chewy, sweet fried batter with cheese on the inside Korean Corn Dog - two of my sons loved this Seasoned Fries - all three sons smashed two orders of this and seriously wanted more. Great seasoning on it. Not too much and not too little I posted the menu on here for you to check out as well. I'm super happy they are around and are so happy for the owners! Definitely a place checking out at least once.

Very friendly staff. Food came out fresh and hot. Wish the side of radish was a little bigger. Nice little spot for a quick bite.

My husband and I tried What Dak in West Des Moines for dinner last night and we kind of liked it. They don't just serve Korean food. They have traditional stuff like bulgogi and japchae, nontraditional food like fried chicken, tacos, sliders and corn dogs and non-Korean food like pork buns and potstickers. I got the japchae and my husband got the pork buns. We both liked what we ordered and would get them again. However, with me being the stickler that I am about Korean food, I didn't think the japchae was the best I've ever had. That would be my mom's. Her food is the gold standard to which I will forever compare everyone else's Korean food. To me, the noodles tasted like there was one essential ingredient missing. I can't put my finger on it but I definitely noticed it. It was still very tasty, though. My husband liked his pork buns but they didn't look like they had as much pork in them as their photos on their website showed. This place is a fast/casual restaurant in a strip mall. For that reason, we thought their prices were a little on the high side. My japchae with bulgogi in it was $14.95. I was expecting a little bigger portion than what I received for that price. They don't have a soda fountain so you have to buy bottled drinks if you want any. They did have $.50 bottles of water, so I was glad about that. My dish came out pretty fast but my husband had to wait quite awhile for his. I was almost done with my food by the time he got his. They served our food in to go containers even though we were dining in. They also gave us paper plates but we didn't use them because our food was already in plastic containers and we didn't see the need to dirty the plates. The place is bright and colorful and kind of small. I think there were probably eight tables. All of the the employees we dealt with were friendly and courteous. We liked the food enough to come back again but there weren't enough traditional dishes on their menu to entice me to come back very soon. For people looking for just traditional Korean food, you might not like this. But for the average person who's curious about Korean food or street food, you may want to try this.

Finally ! Great chicken! The spicy was actually spicy. The japchae is not like the one I had in Chicago. Overall everything was exceedingly tasty. Love the seasoned fries and buns as well . Will definitely be back to try the rest.

The food is consistently good. The loaded fries are one of my favorites. The bulgogi is seasoned well and obviously slow cooked because it is always tender. The bulgogi fried rice is delicious and so is the bulgogi. This is a great place to eat while in Des Moines.

We have been talking about going to What Dak for a long time. The food was delicious. We the pork buns, Dak loaded fries and the 8 pcs wings (half soy garlic and half spicy.) The wings were nice and crispy. The soy garlic was my favorite. The wings were steaming hot. The fries were crispy even though they were topped with delicious sauce, sliced meat, and cheese. For the price, I thought the servicing size was on the small side. There are definitely more items on their menu I would like to try. Two of our menu items were served in plastic containers, I wish they had had more eco-friendly containers.

Great place. Owner was very kind and friendly. We thought the music was a bit too loud and they turned it down immediately. They all came by to see if we needed anything and asked how we liked it. I had the chicken sliders with ginger soy sauce and the cheese balls. Both were different than I thought but super delicious! Next time I plan to have what the are know for and that is the wings! I will be back soon!

Parking: tons of space since it's located in a strip of stores. Ordering: so many different ways to order and SO convenient! We ordered online via their app for pickup. In the app you can earn points and rewards and every first order via the app gets free fries. (Idk if that's a permanent thing or not so fyi). Otherwise they're fast casual, so in-store they have a few kiosks to order from when you walk in on the left or you can order at the counter with a human. They'll call your name/number once ready. Service: even tho they were super swamped they were so nice and quick. They even apologized for the barely 1-2 extra minute wait past pickup time which was completely fine! Seating: they had a handful of booths and maybe a couple low top tables. A decent amount of seating for a fast casual place! Food: I was craving a bao bun and these were pretty good! One order contains three buns and they were full of flavor. I almost think they could make the buns smaller to have a more equal buns to insides ratio. Their seasoned fries were really good and not too salty with just the right amount of seasoning. They tasted familiar, but couldn't put my finger on it. The chicken coating was really delicious, flavorful, and crispy. It seemed like maybe it could use a little more chicken meat, but it could just be the one I tried! Overall: I really enjoyed the whole experience from ordering to the food. I'll be back to try more items for SURE. I think they ran out of a few things (Korean corndog and cheeseballs?) which is kinda a good problem to have for a new place bc they know people are liking it! Love this place for WDSM!

We haven't gotten her further down the rabbit hole just yet. Lol Mandarin Grill & Sushi Bar is located in a small strip pretty much across 128th from the Walgreens there on University. Parking is mainly in a small lot in front of the restaurant with additional parking nearby. Seating is a combination of tables and chairs and booths. As always we were greeted right away when we walked in and seated immediately. Our drink orders were taken a minute or two later and we were given time to look over the menu. I've never had a bad experience here! The food and service is ALWAYS on point! We ordered the following: 1x Firecracker roll (Right) - Cream cheese, kani, jalapeno, cilantro on the inside. Tempura battered and fried. Spicy mayo, crunchies, unagi sauce and spicy tuna on the outside. 1x Unicorn roll (Left) - Tempura shrimp and avocado on the inside. Spicy tuna, soy paper, raspberry and a house sauce on the outside 1x Shrimp tempura roll (middle) The sushi rolls hit the table after a short wait. We both loved the Firecracker roll! The Unicorn roll was very good too. I don't think I've ever had a raspberry sauce on a sushi roll before... Nice! I was strangely impressed by the shrimp tempura roll... While this is a basic standard roll at most places the shrimp was more heavily breaded... The crunch factor on this one was fantastic! It's that contrasting texture thing I guess... If you're not into sushi the other menu items here are great too! The menu is extensive and covers a lot of items we normally associate with Chinese food along with Korean dishes as well. If you haven't been here it's worth the stop! If you just haven't been here in a minute... It's time to go back! Pro-tip. I have two soups I consider kryptonite to a cold. One is Brenda's Spicy Noodle soup at the Vietnam Cafe in Merle Hay Mall... The other is here! Their Hot & Sour soup with shrimp. Add rice, a side of kimchi and extra chiles. I think there's a truck there with them most Wednesday nights... I've been waiting for a chance to try these guys. It was one of the trucks high on my want list. Tonight I swept the middle row of their menu. Spicy pork (comes with rice and kimchi), a chicken bulgogi sandwich, and three egg rolls. $24 total before tip. I LOVED the spicy pork... I threw the pork, the rice, and the kimchi altogether almost immediately. This should be the new holy trinity. The egg rolls were very good. The wrap had a nice crunch and the filling tasted great. Cooked perfectly. The chicken bulgogi sandwich... It was okay. It was really overshadowed by the other two items. The chicken was tender and well cooked. The flavors popped. The roll reminded me of a lot of banh mi rolls I've had in the past. I really enjoyed the roll... Kind of like the exterior of the egg rolls it brought a change of texture to the party after the spicy pork. The staff of this truck was amazing to deal with. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. I eat a lot of spicy food and it still gave me hiccups, but not so spicy I was sweating or tearing up. A healthy pang of spice but not a complex flavor and it disappears pretty quick from the mouth. The double dunk everyone liked very good texture good mix of sweet and spicy. The sweet butter one we got the kids was good not spicy at all but extra sticky. I liked it but preferred the double dunk. The asian bbq I really disliked but everyone else liked it; it was very strong saltiness and sweet. MiL ordered the pork ribs which were fine, a little tough but good flavor. The kids wanted fries so we added some on but they tasted a little stale and the spice mix on them wasnt popular they were barely eaten. The cucumber kimchi is just the cabbage with cucumber added! We got both and I was like oop. It was a little dry and not very strong to me. The sweet potato was disgusting nobody liked it. VERY strong salty muso flavor overpowering, very soft mushy sweet potato. We threw it out. The egg salad the kids loved and it was a good flavor, pretty crowded pleasing. LOVED the daikon perfect flavor texture etc. A nice snap just a bit sour. The mac was popular with the kids, I did not like the extra thick cheesy sauce personally. LOVED the spinach side dish what a surprise! Very refreshing and well cooked, a bit of sourness but not too much.
