I got the "grilled lemongrass" chicken breast banh mi. That's a joke because nothing about this was "grilled" nor did it have any "lemongrass". The "pickled" carrots and daikon was just dipped in boiling water or something. Banh mi should come with real pickled carrots and daikon that give the meal a nice kick, not this. What the pho "What the Pho"? You shouldn't even be allowed to call this "banh mi". Disappointing. read more

Very pleasantly surprised by the pork Banh Mi I got here. While a number of the Banh Mi's I've had from DC food trucks are perfectly "fine," they are usually lacking both size and flavor. This bad boy certainly wasn't lacking size (it comes in a footlong hot dog box) and was quite tasty as well. All for a pretty reasonable price when you compare it to other food trucks. Not too heavy on the mayo or grease either. Really tasty, filling, and pretty light all things considered. I'll be keeping a lookout for this one come future lunch times. read more

I ordered the beef pho and shrimp summer rolls. Broth was very salty but not very flavorful. The meat was tough and not well-seasoned. However, the service was pretty quick (in relation to other pho trucks) and the price ($9) and portion were a good value. The summer rolls didn't really taste like anything on their own but tasted good with the peanut sauce. Overall not terrible, but not something I would order again frequently or wait in a long line for. read more

Wanted pho today and haven't tried this truck. Have tried 2 others that come to my dc location. Ordered the beef pho. Service was quick but the pho came without bean sprouts. Maybe they ran out?? But I wasn't told. The beef pho came with a ton of noodles, probably because no bean sprouts. Sad part is there was only maybe 5-6 little pieces of beef. The other trucks have way more beef/protein in it. I won't be coming back to this truck again due to the lack of protein and flavors. The broth was plain and bland. The banh mi is the truth! Huge and very filling. I got the bulgogi beef one. The beef was tender and well seasoned and I loved the crispy veggie slaw on top. I will probably try a bowl next time, as the sandwich was a lot of bread for me. read more

This review is for the spring rolls only and not the pho or banh mi. I strongly recommend against ordering the spring rolls - they tasted a day old and the skin was pretty stale. I know that there are different expectations for food truck cuisine, so I wouldn't be opposed to coming back and trying the rest of the menu. read more

This a pretty decent place as far as food trucks go. They are super quick, took less that 5 minutes to order and get the food even with the line. The shrimp summer rolls are as good as I have had at any take out place and I probably be back to get them again, since I really love summer rolls. I had a crazy craving for pho at lunch and after reading others' reviews for WTP I almost opted to jump on the Metro to find Pho Junkies a few stops away. I decided to give WTP a try anyway, and I am glad that I did. I think the pho is pretty delicious, with just one (big) complaint- the portion of meat in the pho was way too small! They load up on the noodles to fill your stomach instead of meat. That aside, the broth and noodles were yummy. I could have gone for a few more jalapenos (I only got two little slices). In the end, my craving was definitely satisfied. Will I go back? Yes, but if Pho Junkies is close by I will still choose them first. read more

I was excited to get some Vietnamese food from a local food truck, but I was a bit disappointed. I ordered a chicken bahn mi sandwich, and although I don't require a huge meal (most of the food truck meals are too big IMO), I felt that I paid $8 for what is usually $3.50 at most bahn mi sandwhich restaurants. Furthermore, there weren't a lot of pickled veggies and chicken in the sandwich. My friend ordered a pho, and the container was really small - I think I've taken more home from a pho restaurant as leftovers - and the beef pho cost $9, I think. Just had the lemongrass chicken bahn mi. I've been annoyed in the past by food trucks that offer tiny servings, so I asked before I ordered if it was a decent size. The employee (owner?) affirmed that it was a large sandwich, so I got it. And I liked it. A lot. Lots of chicken, great bread and snappy toppings, topped with a delicious mayo (and I don't usually love mayo). Definitely worth the $8. read more

I gave myself a chance at trying Vietnamese cuisine at a food truck. I gave myself a chance and regretted it. How so? Is it because i know my culture's food well? I don't think so, but I sure have a certain standard for such cuisine. I ordered a bowl of vermicelli with grilled pork. One thing about the dish was its size; it was good for $9. But the quality was below what I expected. What was good: grilled pork and fish sauce. I think they did a good job there, so 1 star for your effort. When you say Vermicelli bowl, please let the star be the vermicelli. What I ate was a day-old, refrigerated and microwaved vermicelli that wasn't worth $9. Well one terrible dish doesn't represent the whole food truck, but please have mercy in each of your dish. read more

I just tried the pork tenderloin Bahn mi sandwich for the first time and I am hooked. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because it didn't come with the pate, however they do give very generous portion of marinated pork tenderloin. Chicken Pho is absolutely delicious. Very fresh tasting ingredients. The broth is light and flavorful and the thinly sliced chicken is all white meat and lean. I almost didn't try it because I disliked a different vendor's version that had grilled chicken chunks but I'm glad I tried this one. Got the grilled lemongrass pork banh mi. Would not order again, and would not recommend. I can't imagine that the pork on the sandwich ever saw a grill. And not really sure it ever met any lemongrass either. The carrots and daikon might as well have been raw; any pickling must have been minimal. Guys on the truck were nice, but this was really a disappointing excuse for a banh mi. Can maybe get away with this in another city, but there's too much decent Vietnamese food in the DC area (mostly in VA, but nonetheless) to do it here. What the pho is right. read more

I was originally skeptical of pho from a food truck, but after a phenomenal experience at another food truck, I gave this one a go. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. The beef pho was $8 or $9, if I remember correctly. The portion was small, but I was still willing to overlook small portions if the food was good. When I opened up the container, I saw why the food truck had no line. The bowl was sparsely populated with noodles, which were fine but not really good. In the entire bowl I had only THREE pieces of sliced beef. That's insane, especially for the price. There were no jalapenos, no bean sprouts, and a broth that was so flavorless I threw it away. Pho usually leaves me full and happy, but I was hungry and grumpy after eating from What the Pho. If you put "pho" in your name, it should at least have decent broth! This is a definite pass - you'll get better food from a hot dog cart. read more

The Bulgogi banh Mis is goood it makes me want to cry. They use reallly tasty marinade for their beef. The price is not low, but the quanity OMG so good. Got the chicken pho. The broth was pretty good. The chicken was a bit dry. And there just wasn't enough food...I was pretty hungry when I was done. There was a decent amount of chicken, but not a ton of noodles. I think there should always be lots of noodles because noodles are dirt cheap. read more

Saying that I'm a pho lover is putting it mildly, so I'm more than a little picky when it comes to this dish. I felt that the broth was lacking in flavor and they use rice noodles that have the width of linguine noodles instead of the traditional thin noodle. The one positive about the soup was that the beef was tender. This pho was by far not the worst I've ever had, but I've definitely had better and cheaper - even at the other pho trucks around town. I am female so I am always looking not to pig out and tip the calorie scale for lunch. To me, soup is safer than barbecue smothered something on a roll. I caught these guys on 4th and E across from NASA. The price was high but it was decent and not pig out heaven. $9 for a quart size container of Pho. For $4 more I received two Shrimp Rolls. These rolls are not fried. The sauce is excellent. Not Georgetown gourmet but not bad. Wish they were around every day. I get tired of DC's hefty hittas Hesta's fare. read more
