    Shrimp fried rice
    Giovanna D.

ISTG whoever likes this food is your enemy. This was so disgusting. Got the shrimp friend rice. It's nothing like the carry out fried rice you're used to. Looks like they took instant rice, colored it yellow and put some msg to season. No veggies, no sesame nothing. It tastes & looks disgusting. The shrimp are flavorless. I'm soooo pissed! $30 for almost inedible food. Got the pork tibs... mostly bone, greasy AH! Like oozing with grease. I ordered the streak & cheese egg rolls (they were disgusting too) & it just brought one. Do not go here. The food is so gross!

It's about time to stop supporting the Chinese community! They are over priced! This specific carry out is has charged me the same menu price for a platter ands I only preferred just shrimp! 8 jump shrimp for 13.50 with no rice or French fries is ridiculous!

Sweet and sour chicken was well cooked with classic sauce. Solid steamed rice and hot and sour soup as well. The veggie spring rolls were crispy on the outside and the crab rangoon had a tasty filling but the wrapper was tough/overcooked on the edges.

Tucked into the heart of Dupont Circle with its unmistakable bright blue awning, the restaurant is intimate, moody, and always buzzing. Inside, you'll find dim lighting, a handful of cozy wooden bar booths, seats along the bar, and a few outdoor tables. It's not a huge space, which only adds to its charm and makes every reservation feel like a win. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing dishes and lingering over dinner with friends. The food was incredible...I genuinely loved every single bite. Just be prepared: the Sichuan spice is no joke! If you aren't expecting it, it'll definitely sneak up on you (in the best way). My must-orders? The chili wontons, Dan Dan noodles, and beef noodles. Every dish was packed with bold flavor and left me wanting to come back for more. If you've been trying to score a reservation, keep at it. Astoria is one of those places that's absolutely deserving of its reputation, and I'll be thinking about those noodles until my next visit.

Inside had small tables and a kinda casual cocktail bar vibe Beef Noodles - the highlight and actually very good! The noodles are long and handmade and chewy. They hold onto the sauce very well! The sauce has a slight kick and is very savory. The beef is soft and also flavorful! I feel the price for the portion is kinda expensive though 8/10 Chili wontons - skin is silky and soft, sauce is savory with a small kick as well! Even though the sauces look similar to beef noodle they taste very different. The fillings had good flavor and overall were good but were a bit tougher and dryer than I would prefer. 6/10 Crab fried rice - crab is slightly overcooked but naturally sweet. It has a light curry taste throughout and was pretty good but didn't really stand out 5.5/10 Mapo tofu - slight kick and nice savory taste in the sauce! However I think they cut the tofu pieces way too large or the tofu they chose had way too much tofu flavor that overpowers the sauce. I'd prefer a very light silky tofu but this was a soft tofu. 6/10 Vpod - at first it just tasted like orange juice but then the other flavors peek through on the after taste and when I mixed it more. Even though it was good, it still felt very basic 5/10 Philadelphia Scotsman - it's pretty ginger forward. Technically the level of ginger spice is fine but strong but then the rest of the drink got completely overpowered and so this just wasn't that great 2.5/10

For appetizers, we shared the salt and pepper calamari and the jah leung. The calamari was good was but was on the saltier side. I've never had jah leung; it was a very pretty dish and tasted interesting but not sure if I really liked the textures. For my entree, I ordered the beef brisket chow fun. I liked how tender the beef was but it was also on the saltier side. I got to try my husband's char siu place and my friend's crispy pork belly. Both were really tasty and I would probably get those next time instead! Overall, the service was good and I was pretty happy with the food in general (maybe I'm just sensitive to salt).

Easily the highlight of the meal. Service was quick, but that's where things became a bit inconsistent. My entrée arrived way before my friends' meals, so I was left deciding whether to eat alone or let my food get cold. On top of that, our server had about as much personality as the napkin on the table. There was nothing outright wrong with the service, but it felt cold and disengaged. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant, the food absolutely lived up to the reputation. Unfortunately, the service didn't come close. If they matched the quality of the hospitality with the quality of the food, this would be an easy five-star experience.

If a place delivers strong execution, quality flavors, and exceeds expectations for what it is trying to be, that earns a top rating from me. Chili Wok did exactly that. We recently visited Alexandria and had an excellent meal from start to finish. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well prepared, and arrived tasting fresh and intentional. The soup dumplings were a standout. The wrappers held together nicely, the filling was savory and juicy, and each bite had that satisfying burst of broth you hope for when ordering them. The fried rice was also very well done. It had great wok flavor, proper texture, and did not feel greasy or heavy, which is where many places miss the mark. The sweet and sour ribs were another highlight. They had a great balance of sweetness and tang, with tender meat and enough texture to keep them interesting. A dish that can sometimes feel one note was handled really well here. Beyond the food, the overall experience was strong. When every dish lands and nothing disappoints, that says a lot about the consistency of the kitchen. Overall, Chili Wok delivered exactly what I hope for in this category: flavorful food, solid technique, and an enjoyable dining experience. Easy 5 stars, and I would gladly return.

Easy street parking got me inside just before the 2:30pm brunch cutoff. The vibe inside was immediately inviting. Cute trees growing in the center, real or not I was not brave enough to touch them, and well appointed tables throughout. We sat at the bar, ordered a Mai Tai and it arrived quickly. The service set the tone from the moment we sat down. We started with egg drop and hot and sour soup. Egg drop is my go to and I make it a point to try it wherever it appears on the menu. This one is one of the better ones in the area. Served hot and full of flavor. No enhancements needed. Then on to shrimp dumplings, roasted pork bun, and pork dumplings. The pork dumplings were my favorite and the roasted pork bun was my guest's. We could have stopped right there and been happy. One word of advice, the chili oil served on the table is super hot. We did not expect it so be careful when using. It is so good but it will catch you off guard! The shared entrees were the Han Style Peking Duck and Yang Chow Fried Rice. We have had Peking Duck previously at Philippe Chow and this one outperformed it. Served without the tableside theatrics but delivering every bit of the flavor. Goes to show sometimes good meals do not need the pomp and circumstance. Even though I love the thrills. The Yang Chow Fried Rice was not your typical version. The pork was marinated sweeter than anything I have had before and it elevated the whole dish in the best way. If you're going for a more traditional take on fried rice this would not be your go to. We ended with sesame balls served warm. Like a donut but with a not overwhelming sweetness. Filled with something I could not quite identify but it did not matter. A great ending to the meal. The bartender was attentive and reading the room the entire time. The next Mai Tai arrived right as I took the last sip of the first. I could not finish it completely but it was that good. All hands on deck made the food ordering and arrival quick and efficient. One honest note worth sharing. Han's Palace adds 20% gratuity to the menu but the bill comes out prompting you to select a tip again. Easy to miss. I went back in after visiting a spot next door to flag it and the waiter assured me nothing additional was charged even though I selected more. Noble of them. Just something to be mindful of when you go. Han's Palace Woodley Park is a gathering worth coming back to and the perfect starting point for a full day of fun in the surrounding area. Especially if you have family or friends visiting the city.
