It was more about the burger choice more than anything. Whataburger is one of my favorite places. I was taking the smokehouse burger test vs BK, whose burger was released 1 day before Whataburger. Not really impressed with BK overall for their burgers. I usually just have them for new items. Back to the steakhouse burger, the sauce was way more tangy than expected, and unfortunately I added pickles (which I prefer on the burger), which took it over the top (sour). When you know, you know!! It's Whataburger time after a long trip home. Needed a Burger my way, double meat, double cheese, no onions, no mustard, add mayo. Sliced in half so good!! Just so you know I can never eat the whole burger or fries but it's a winner. I noticed a change in their bun, it was lighted and not so think. It was rather smashed down and looked like they changed the recipe. I love it as it was easy to eat and held all the goodies nicely inside. Stopped in for a quick lunch with Hubby, and super happy with our experience. The one by our house is TERRRRRIBLE with time and service, so we rarely hit up a Whataburger in general due to PTSD. We ordered online a for dine-in because the line was almost out the door at 11 am!! We walk in and the AMAZING Sarah (manager?) asked our names, told the kitchen we were here for our dine-in order and boom, had our meals in under 5 minutes!! This never happens!! She even stopped later and asked how we were doing and if we needed anymore sauce. Great service and the restaurant was clean, the soda machines were wiped down, all full too!! Dirty, slow, and too much mustard to handle Whataburger is not my usual go-to, but I needed a quick lunch in Roanoke, and fast food seemed like the best option. Sadly, I picked the wrong spot. Not Eatable A friend who lived in Texas for 15 years, who moved back to Atlanta was visiting with us. She made a special request to eat a Whataburger. So, we went through the drive-thru at the Roanoke location. When we got home and started eating the meal, the buns were cold and stale, the fries tasted like they had been cooked earlier in the day and have been sitting under lights and the cheese wasn't melted because the patty had been pre-cooked and sitting on the grill awaiting someone to order a burger. We have eaten at this location a few times over the years and initially it was OK. But we've stopped going there and eating. We really want to support "local." But, this was not the first time that we experienced the lack of quality food and service. When we got there we tried to place the order in the drive-thru without the person understanding what we were trying to order - "a #1 with cheese and a Coke Zero." The person servicing the drive-thru kept asking us to repeat the order. Finally, we got out of the car and went in and ordered at the counter. But obviously that didn't help because the order was not edible. $30 of food went into the trash. That was our last trip to the Roanoke Whataburger. I've been going here after work occasionally. There's some sort of chaos going on in the kitchen whenever I go. It's hard to describe, but it's entertaining for the most part. I tend to get my food in less then 5 minutes, so I don't really mind it. I get the patty melt, and it's consistently good. It's solid fast food and I think it's one of the better whataburgers around. I've been ordering by app mostly and have had no mistakes so far. Something needs to change at this location. it's one of the only 24/7 spots open in the area and consistently has the same issue, the wait. When there's 10 cars ahead of you, 10-20 minute wait in the drive thru. When there's 1 car in front of you, 10-20 minute wait. Hard to tell if this is a management or understaffed issue but it seems insane that this has remained the case for months. My most recent experience was ordering 2 breakfast burritos at 1am and pulling forward to wait 'for the eggs' for 15 minutes. Meanwhile several cars orders are being completed behind me. It's fine when a fast food establishment has problems sometimes, it happens everywhere. If this was a one-off scenario I wouldn't be complaining. I understand. It's when this wait is so consistent that every time I visit a couple cars ahead of me will pull out of the line because they haven't moved in 10 minutes. Being in Texas, I wanted to see what the hype was about Whataburger. After a 12 hour day of driving, we decided to grab something to eat. On the recommendation of the server, I ordered a Bacon and Cheese Whataburger and my boyfriend ordered a buffalo ranch chicken strip sandwich with a Dr Pepper milkshake substituted for a drink. I gotta say, I liked his more than mine. My burger was cold, and they definitely need to lay off on the mustard a bit. Can't complain about the portions, they're huge burgers compared to California. The boyfriend was a huge fan of the milkshake. The service was great and fast(which is why I don't understand why my burger was so cold) and we were huge fans of the spicy ketchup. I typically order from the app for curbside pickup, if you do this you might as well not expect picante or spicy ketchup or any other condiments.
