There was some excessive damage to my lawn in the process and credit to Jerry for offering to make it right and following through. After following all care instructions provided, which were very few and required my own research, my family and I left town for about 6 weeks leaving the patio to continue curing to its final state. Upon our return not even 3 months later we returned to a patio with cracks throughout it. Pacific Coast Concrete has taken zero responsibility for this, calling it a natural outcome of the shrinkage of the slab but I have this new one next to a 20 year old slab that has exactly zero cracks in it. From what I have read and been told by other concrete professionals, shrinkage cracking can be normal, but is usually caused by inferior materials or preparation of the concrete itself (too wet, etc.). It is a shame that Pacific Coast Concrete will take zero responsibility over the condition of the slab they poured just 3 months ago. Now I have spent thousands of dollars on something that is already falling apart.

Fontaine completed a driveway for me recently, a conversion from a gravel drive. The concrete…read moreitself looks very nice (won't be able to judge how well it drains or wears for a while) and they were mostly great to work with - kept me informed of their schedule, came on time, worked hard, etc. Very nice guys. Cost was comparable to other estimates. Aside from the concrete itself, there are several problems. The biggest is that the new driveway is not at the level of the old one. It's a platform - 4" above ground level on one side and 8" above on the side towards the house. A danger and a liability, to say nothing of a several hundred dollar project now required to install steps and make the sides less hazardous and unattractive (Fontaine put some rock in along the sides when I complained, but it is ugly and needs additional work if it's to be permanent). I would have appreciated being informed beforehand, especially since I am 71 and have mobility issues - I did not need more steps. Ask lots of questions! They were also very hard on the surrounding vegetation, in spite of things we discussed beforehand, including an adjacent flower bed of my neighbors. They broke a large area out of a hydrangea, left small chunks of concrete and areas of concrete dust in my yard, apparently cleaned tools onto my parking strip leaving another little pile of concrete, and it appears they dumped some slurry down the storm drain (I bet that's illegal). They did not wear masks, even tho they are now a legal requirement.

The entire project took 8 hours and those folks are HARD WORKERS!! The transformation of my driveway is incredible. They thoroughly prepared my driveway and patched about 100 cracks... they resurfaced the whole thing and they did a fantastic job! They cleaned up all of the cement remnants and packaging. Of the different contractors I spoke with, Anthony seemed to have the best grasp of what we wanted. The final execution is not exactly how we originally envisioned it, but close enough. How could is the workmanship, only time will tell. I was concerned about the lack of detail in the cleanup. Loose rocks scattered around the yard and along the walkway. The one that really got me was finding a chunk of concrete buried in a planting bed. I was not able to be around to hover over the workers as my wife would say, but it doesn't hurt. We are happy with the finished project and being able to wheel the lawnmower easily from the front to backyard, made it all worthwhile.
