10/3/23: My experience with this vet clinic has been nothing short of disappointing. It's evident that their primary focus is making money, and it reflects in every interaction. From the moment we stepped in, they hit us with exorbitant charges for basic services, from examinations to X-rays and medications. We asked for an alternative route and they suggested not to get anything on Amazon but their own custom made brace that costed $1000+. The most frustrating part was their recommendation of surgery for our pup, who was actually showing signs of improvement with rest. When we questioned this, the vet tech admitted they weren't an expert, leaving us to wonder why they suggested surgery in the first place. I wanted to speak to someone with actual knowledge. Why are you suggesting things that you don't know... On top of all this, their communication is a mess. While waiting in the room, three different vet techs came in, asking the same questions. It makes you question whether they even communicate with each other. What pushed me over the edge was the way they sedated my pup for an X-ray. When I picked him up, it was clear they had overdosed him. He was whimpering and wanted to leave. I've lost all trust in this clinic. It seems like their primary goal is to squeeze money out of you. Their lack of communication skills, unqualified suggestions, and overall incompetence are concerning. **WARNING:** To future pet owners, I strongly recommend taking your money and your beloved pets elsewhere. Seek out a clinic that genuinely cares about the well-being of your animals, not just your wallet. Avoid this place at all costs! 3/7/24: UPDATE. Our dog is walking, jumping and running around and super happy and it only took some TLC, not a $10000 surgery to fix him. TLC is something they do not have at the clinic. Trust is the greatest currency in healthcare. After a year of working with Wheaton Way Vet Clinic, not only was our trust completely compromised but we were left to manage a serious infection in our dog after a routine neutering performed at Wheaton Way without even a phone call of concern from the staff, let alone the attending veterinarian, Dr. Zach Marcus. On two different routine back to back visits with Wheaton Way, our 1 year old pup ended up in the VCA emergency clinic. The first time Dr. Marcus missed a developing ear infection during a routine checkup, which is common for our breed. Even I could smell the yeast developing. Two days later our dog was in the emergency room with an significantly inflamed ear. I don't believe Dr. Marcus looked in his ear. First time, shame on you. Second time, shame on me. I should have never gone back, but I wanted to trust them. Two weeks or so later our pup went in for a routine neuter. The clinic went 20% over quote and we never received a call asking if that was okay. Every other clinic that we have had to visit has called us if there was even a chance they might go over or if there was a change to the quote. We understood risks associated with neutering. One risk is infection. Three days after the surgery our pup developed a very aggressive Staphylococcus pseudintermedius infection. Back to the emergency vet. To make a long story short, over the next 10 days our pup underwent three surgeries and three procedures. After the second of these surgeries I went to Wheaton Way clinic in person and asked to have my records from Wheaton Way sent to me so I could send them to the vets at the emergency clinics. I also asked to have Dr. Marcus call me to discuss the procedure and what I might expect fighting the infection. They were not busy that morning and they wrote my request down. While I was there I even expressed that I couldn't honestly blame them for the infection, but that I no longer trusted the clinic. Their response was one of understanding, however the front desk attendant decided this was the moment to explain the extreme stress and overwhelm vets are experiencing and that it was leading to an epidemic of suicide among providers, her husband, the last vet to run Wheaton Way, being one of them. To burden me with that information and the guilt trip it laid on me was the most inappropriate response to my situation imaginable. The response implied, intentionally or not, that it was clients like me, add potentially deadly stress to the vets. Not what I needed at that moment. They never sent the records and Dr. Marcus never called to express his concern or offer care. Not once. And still hasn't. We have received unprompted follow up calls from the VCA and they performed the corrective surgery. I finally had to call a second time and threaten to come in in person to get my records at which point they were finally sent. This is why they get one star: Look, things happen. I understand that clearly. But to not call about going over a quote, to not call out of concern for a pup that developed a serious and potentially life threatening infection after a surgery you performed, to not do the bare minimum to help a client get their records and assist the recovery of the patient, and to use a spouse's tragic death and vet overwhelm as your response to a request for communication completely falls short of the kind of professionalism required of this line of work. Thankfully our dog is on his way to a full recovery thanks to the skillful and caring work of the veterinarians and specialists at VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital and Animal Emergency and Specialty Clinic in Poulsbo. Have been coming to this vet for a decade. Dr Lutinen is the absolute best cat vet around, and I have had 12 cats in my life. Most of them have received care here, the best of care. This fully equipped animal hospital is excellent, as I have had a couple of occasions to use their facilities. Their prices are a little higher, as vet hospitals usually are, but not as high as other hospitals. Suggest you check it out. read more

I took my pups here before when it was Dr L. We really liked him and were extremely sorry to hear of his passing. I took my pup in and saw Dr Marcus. The tech took us back and got my pups history and details what was going on. She brought back 2 printout itemized estimates for me to pick one and sign. I said "we haven't even seen the doctor yet". I thought this was weird but ok. She explained the difference and had the vet come in and discuss this. Not everyone has $300-400. I left after paying $415 and got no Lab results for a week but hopefully the medication will cover what's happening. This is shady way of practicing medicine as well as business and I'm out of money until payday. I'll be canceling my other dogs appointment next week and will be finding a new vet. read more

We had a consultation with Dr Luttinen today. He was fantastic in explaining exactly what our pup needed and how he would go about doing it. He drew diagrams for us so we didn't have any questions after the fact, he even took a picture of what he drew so we could take it home. The entire staff was wonderful, caring and gave me confidence that they will take excellent care of my fur child. Front desk receptionist was friendly and engaging. 1 star, because of their clean environment and polite staff. Up until a few minutes ago, it would have been a 5 star review, but here's a little background, just to set the scene. We adopted two kittens that were infested with fleas and had laceration wounds across their noses. My husband researched vet clinics in our area and chose Wheaton Way Veterinary Hospital because he appreciated what they told him about their Kitten Program, and also because they accepted installment payments for the two programs that we needed to purchase. (We live on limited funds, due to my serious cerebral issues, so I can't work enough to contribue much to our earnings). The Kitten program costs $274.63 per kitten and includes: Kitten Program w/o Leukemia Vaccine: $274.63 (times 2) 1. Examination 2. K/P Program - Fecal OPG (IRL 2463) 3. K/P Program - Oral Pyrantel (Dewormer) 4. Kitten Program - Selemectin Single Dose 5. FVRCP - 3 week vaccination 6. Vaccine Boosters w/Tech in 3 weeks My discontentment is two twofold. 1st, the stool samples that we provided for lab testing, looking for worms and other parasites came back "all clear". No signs of infection. I would assume that this would mean that the Pyrantel (Dewormer) would be an unnecessary treatment to dispense. I mean, why would a medical professional give a drug to a kitten, which is meant to treat an infection, when the lab results indicated no signs of infection? Fast forward from 8/10/22 to 9/16/22. One of our kittens, my little girl "Jasmine" has not been thriving, not gaining much weight, and sleeping an awful lot. Her brother, "Jasper" has been growing (and still is) at a steady rate and has great energy. This should have been easily observable at their second vaccination (8/31/22), because of the already noticable differences in size and activity, but no one showed any sign of seeing this. This morning I discovered the reason. My morning routine is to clean the litter box as soon as they poop, so I always deal with fresh droppings. As I did so, I immediately noticed movement, and upon closer inspection, I saw live worms. I called the clinic to ask about treating Jasmine for the worm infection when I would be bringing them in their booster shots, only to be informed AFTER I asked, "This is covered by the Kitten Program, isn't it"? My assumption is that since there was no infection, there was no medication given (to treat what wasn't there). I was wrong. The cost just to bring Jasmine in for anything other than her booster would about $75.00 That is the initial cost to bring her in. All treatments beyond bringing her in would be added to the $75.00. I feel that this is unethical. It is unethical to medicate for a infection that is not present, especially on a young kitten that is heavily infested with fleas. Also, it is unethical to count that treatment of medication toward their kitten program before it was actually needed, so that it would be a new charge when we would need to bring them in later. What gets me is that when I delivered the poop samples, I was asked if I saw any worms in their poop. I told them "no". My husband and I really feel deceived, tricked, fooled... you name it. Be careful what you sign up for. Ask detailed questions and give permission for only specific treatments, even if they seem to be common sense. read more

Called them and told them my Yorkie needed a termination and spay. She talked a very good talk then when I asked for an estimate she kept talking. I told her I needed a beginning to end cost. She said 420-450. They had to do an exam first. I brought her in for the exam that was suppose to include blood work and liver functioning test. When the Dr came in, he listened to her heart and stated that she was healthy. Then they had some paper work for me to sign. All of a sudden the bill was 590. plus the exam, 78.00. I questioned them and they refused to back down. I told them that during this virus it was very rude of them to deceive me. I paid for the exam and left with my Yorkie. I will never go back there. To me this was extremely poor business practice. I'm-still shocked. All the other quotes were 400 to 420. I'll hire a more honest Vet. This is my first bad review. read more

My husband and I have two adult cats and a 5 month old puppy. When we moved to Bremerton (from Silverdale) we wanted to take them somewhere close..big mistake. We switched from Ridgetop, which I still regret to this day. We took our puppy and one of our cats who wasn't microchipped yet in JUST to get microchipped. They said since we hadn't taken then puppy in yet for his exam with them we'd have to do that. I was totally cool with that because he was still pretty young and we wanted to make sure he was up to date on all his shots..plus we just had some general questions about having a new puppy. The total cost was supposed to be around $130.00. FIrst of all, they asked if our cat was having any problems, it didn't really occur to me that I would be charged an exam fee just to talk to the doctor about my cats feeding schedule. COOL a $50 dollar charge for a 2 minute conversation. THEN she starts talking to me about a teeth cleaning that costs $400 for my cat...which turned into a 5 minute conversation about the process. REALLY? I CAME in to get him microchipped. Granted, I should have just not even said anything about his feeding schedule but they asked.. my bad! THEN I'm given a list for the puppy. A HUGE list of all these things "he needs". All he needed was his one shot...and that wasn't due for a few more weeks. The vet noticed that the puppies nails were long and offered to "trim them". I said sure. I figured it was free (another mistake, they charged me $18 for this...). They then take the puppy and cat to get microchipped and I heard the puppy yelp SUPER loud. The vet tech comes back in the room with him...half his nails were bleeding and he was whining. She CLAIMED it was another dog making noises...but yeah. SERIOUSLY? At this point I'm getting super annoyed. We finally get to leave and upon checking out at the front we're given a $300 dollar bill. One item on the bill is for a fecal examination. I told them I really would prefer to pay for this once we brought the fecal matter in, but they still INSISTED that we pay up front..and bring it in later. I was so irritated that I said fine. Oh also, I wasn't given a detailed receipt. I looked at it in the car and it was blank, so I had to go back in and ask for another one. A week later I had stewed long enough over this and finally went in, asked for the records of all my pets and a refund ($50 mind you...) for the fecal test...which I never brought in. I was given a refund, but upon inspection of the paperwork for all three of my pets...their paperwork was all mixed up...and had tons of duplicates, their notes were also inaccurate Anyways, we ended up taking our pets back to Ridgetop...and I'm happy. Maybe I'm too picky, but I really don't enjoy getting nickeled and dimed when I am bringing in three animals already..it adds up fast and I feel they could be way more up front about what things are going to cost BEFORE they do them. read more

He is 14 and has what we thought was kidney disease but with Dr. Luttinen's help we discovered that he has a mass that needs to be removed, and his prognosis is much better than we thought with surgery. He has been super transparent and willing to answer all of our questions through this process. I am very attached to my baby and I feel that he is in good hands going here. Took my Healer in for her 3 year rabies vaccine. They were agreeable but had to examine my dog first. After the fact I found they administered a one year rabies vaccine, not the 3 year that I went in for, paid for and they agreed to. When I requested why "there was no previous vaccine record so she was give the 1 year so they could follow up with the 3 yeat." Not you pet, your not paying for this, not the agreement that was made. This feels wrong, like a bait and switch that generates more business. I went in for what was needed and they did what they wanted and for a 1 year vaccine the exam made this expensive. The staff and doctor were proficient but it feels like I was ripped off. read more

We take all of our menagerie here and they always treat our animals well. Our dogs and cats are much healthier and happier due to the professional treatment they receive at this clinic. Not much to say other than you have to be careful who treats your animals. I've had nightmare vets hurt my animals because they were incompetent. Just a week or so after I moved to Bremerton, I took my sweet kitty here. He had a huge abscess and needed tooth surgery. He's 11 so it wasn't too surprising. Unfortunately the surgery was immediately necessary and we were going out of town, so they did medical boarding for him. I went to visit a couple times before we left town and everything was great. He was clean and very well loved. While I spent a bucket of money, it was well worth it. Harry is back to 100%. I would definitely recommend Wheaton Way Vet clinic. They're kind people who don't make you feel silly when you bawl in the waiting room about being homesick, the speeding ticket you got on the way to the clinic, and your sweet lil sick kitty. The vet gave me thorough explanations in a very clean, professional environment. Be prepared to be shamed for letting your cat play with yarn balls, but be pleased when they give him catnip in your absence. Be prepared to spend money, but rest assured that they go over all your options, possibilities for things going a couple ways during surgery, and eventually come in under the initial estimate. read more

He is at Poulsbo Trauma Center (because it was a Sunday) currently. Poulsbo Trauma Center is also wonderful. However, we will take him in to be humanely euthanized here at Wheaton Way with whom I trust with my every being. We have had horrible luck with cancer for all three of our dogs in the past two years. All of the Docs and staff at Wheaton Way have been so much more then just helpful with our babies. I started bringing my cat here a year and a half ago when I moved to the area and worked with other vets at the clinic first. They were great, but unfortunately they were temporary. Then Dave Luttinen picked up my cat's case and it's been downhill since then. He is inconsistent with the results he reviews and very pushy with products that are 100% unnecessary. He gets angry quickly if you don't buy what he is pushing and doesn't focus on the health of the animal/patient. Last time I was there I was doing a full blood workup for my 16 year old cat who it turns out is in kidney failure and this horrible "vet" spent his time berating me about not buying some wipes and didn't even get to the blood work until I was crying and pleading for him to go over my cats results so I could have some answers. His entire staff apologized for him. They all heard it and couldn't believe his rude and irrational behavior. When I went back for follow up blood work his wife, Jennifer Luttinen, who is the office manager there (nepotism is toxic) was sent in like a minion to tell me that her husband was refusing to let me sign up with another vet and that they would no longer treat my 16 year old cat. My appointment was on time and very thorough. Being a rescue there was little known about my Akita. I am so please by the professionalism and the attention to detail. On June 27, 2016, we brought our very ill cat in to be euthanized. Since the beginning of this year we have spent over a $1200 in tests and ER visits trying to find out why she is peeing and throwing up all over our home daily. So far, all testing has been inconclusive. The vet tech came in with the necessary paperwork to sign to have her put to sleep. She said she didn't think Dr. Curran would have a problem with it since we have had her in for these issues and she is not getting any better. Dr. Curran then came in and proceeded to be very condescending to me about the care and keeping of my pets. She said Baby's issues are behavioral, and that our cat needs a less stressful home, but maybe she could run more tests. I see this as an attempt to milk more money out of a cat that has some serious issues, and said as much during the visit. She then informed us that she isn't comfortable with euthanizing our cat, and that it would be better if we took her to the Humane Society or P.A.W.S so she can have the chance to be in a better home. We find this to be extremely hypocritical; as if that is going to be less stressful? She is nine years old! She has severe peeing and throwing up problems. NO ONE is going to adopt her. Older pets with health issues never get adopted. And if you really want to stress out our beloved pet, dropping her off at the Humane Society or the disgusting P.A.W.S. filth-hole would send her into an anxiety-ridden, throwing-up-and-peeing frenzy, from which she would eventually die in her own filth. This was Dr. Curran's recommendation after lecturing me about the fact that cats are solitary creatures and aren't happy with other pets (we have another cat and a dog, and they coexist very well). To put our cat in a room with scores of other cats to live a miserable existence until she finally succumbs; is cruel and foul treatment of a most loved pet. Putting her in an environment like that would destroy her slowly, be very traumatic and we will not do that to her. Her health issues are getting worse, and we have decided that we have, unfortunately, reached the limit of what we can spend on questionable testing for a cat who is ailing and aging. Her health has been steadily declining for a year, and we feel euthanizing our pet is the most humane thing we can do for her, and the best decision for our family. The appointment with Dr. Curran has left us extremely stressed and in emotional turmoil. read more

Very professional, my cats have never been treated poorly. It can be pricey but they always prescribe medicatiom with an illness or injury to make them be more comforrable. For example after being spayed they prescrbied pain meds. I never felt irrational about bringing them in about a concern of mine. They always treated us and our "fur babies" with high regards. I can't say enough good things about WWVH. At both of my visits the staff has been courteous, professional, and friendly. Dr. Luttinen was thorough and efficient, noticing several minor issues unrelated to what I brought my dog in for (a urinary tract infection). He suggested a reasonable set of lab panels to run, and gave me options as to what *needed* to be done to treat her current symptoms vs. what was more routine lab work due to her age and could wait. The cost of exam, lab work, and antibiotics was very reasonable, as is the cost of exam and vaccines (which i asked about for future reference). The lab work was run in house, and results were ready quickly. Dr. Luttinen went over them with me and we decided on a course of treatment. My second visit, to recheck her urine and make sure the infection was gone, was an appointment with a technician. I came with my toddler and infant in tow, and the staff was so helpful putting me into a room quickly and charging me out in the room so that I wouldn't have to juggle all the dog and both kids in the lobby. She also helped me out to the car and loaded Cali in for me. As a long time veterinary professional myself I'm super picky when it comes to clinics and the care my pets receive. I continue yo be impressed by the team at Wheaton way veterinary hospital and look forward to taking my pets there for their care. read more

I can't bring myself to even give one star. I called to make appt for a rabies shot and distemper shot. They setbup appt and told me it would cost 45.00. I replied that was fine. So i came in for appt checked in and was putbinto an exam room. My wait was approx 30 minutes whichbi spent overhearing more than one personal phone call. Only one other car in parking lot and 1 person in lobby. Then when a tech finally came in she sais they wouldnt give any shots without the doctor doing an exam. Said i should have known that. Well i did ask that that question when i made appt. needless to say I made a terrible decision and agreed. Exam took less than 3 minutes(yes i looked at the time) and then she was ready to give shots. Assistant put a towel around my dogs neck to keep him still then Dr Brown stuck herself with the needle and got her blood on my dog (12 lb poodle/bichon mix). So after 3x the cost choking my dog and bleeding on him I was out of there. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!!!!! Petco in Bremerton does shots every Saturday $19.00 for Rabies shot. We were told that they put our pets first and in any emergency would be more than willing to move things around and help us. The next time I went in with my 3/4 month old puppy who is still understandably learning how to deal with the big world around him even though all he did was bark excitedly at another dog, I was talked down to and belittled by the front desk lady. She gave me the name of someone who could work with my dog and then waved me off. Well flash forward to this last week, my dog developed a really bad ear infection and they said that they couldn't get us in until February. Which was fine and the person we talked to even listed off a couple places that we could try to get into. We managed to get an appointment for at another clinic the next day but it just before closing time. So I called first thing in the morning to see if they could email my dogs records to me. The lady who answered got super snotty with me saying that they were super busy. I apologized and said I completely understand and I really appreciate the help. She proceeded to tell me that she could send it to me because my file wasn't too big. So again I thanked her. Almost as soon as I said that she said I am sorry that we can't always get pets in whenever the owners want. Again I said I understand and that if it hadn't been an emergency that we would have patiently waited to get in with them. I did get my files in about 5 minutes after the call which I am really thankful for but It only takes one person to make a business sucky. I won't be taking my dog to them again if helping me with his health is an inconvenience. There wasn't any reason to talk to me the way she did. I am so impressed with this clinic. When I adopted two elderly dachshunds who needed dental surgery I was unsure about staying with my former veterinarian and on the recommendation of a local dog groomer went to Wheaton Way. The thoroughness of their exams was my first tip off that I had come to a great practice. The vet discovered that they both had ear infections which had gone undetected at the prior clinic. I never feel rushed at Wheaton Way and all of my questions are always answered. When my doxies had surgery I was so worried about them but I got phone calls during the day letting me know how they were doing. The doggies did great! I am very, very impressed with the staff's willingness and interest in educating their clients. It is totally unlike anything that I have ever experienced at any another practice. The enthusiasm for their work is remarkable. I am so very grateful that my friend recommended them. I am always bringing my "kids" here. Thank you Wheaton Way! read more
