Front desk staff is so rude and terrible customer service. We've been taking are husky there for just over a year after moving here from Hawaii and in the beginning; all went well. However....on July 7th at 10:15am, whichever front desk assistant was working, needs customer service training right away!! We called because after our pups 3 year annual check up on April 30th m, we told the doctor that the Trio tablets he was taking was difficult for him and would always spit it out. This is the heart worm, flea and ticker pill. We asked to change to the NEX/Heartgard chewables because he liked those. No problem. They put in order for us to pick up at Costco after is May pill to start in June. This is where everything after went downhill. Called the VCA end of May for the order. Asked about Heartgard Plus and they said it wouldn't be a problem and we'd pick it up from Costco. Went to Costco to pick up the medication and almost couldn't get it because our pups name was spelled wrong. Then they had some other address on Silverdale Way (where we never lived before in our lives) but thankfully our phone number and my name was right. The order was just the NEXgard. Ok..... So I called the VCA and asked if we could still the place a prescription order for the Heartgard Plus or just the Heartgard because Costco only gave us the NEXgard. The lady states "we don't carry Nexgard or Heartgard". I said that I know and that's why we had the prescription ordered to Costco. She then states "How about we start with your name" which I did state who I was in the beginning but...got it. Then she proceeds to tell me that our pup "would need to be tested for heart worms before on a medication otherwise he'd die". That's where I was turned off quickly. He JUST had his annual check up, why didn't they do it then? I told her that I saw his screening need to be done in March and we were told that was part of it. Nope! Called the other VCA on Bucklin Hill and they asked the same questions I did. In short, we went to VCA for our pup at Bucklin Hill for an emergency and the staff was wonderful, unlike the one here on Bryon St. There's literally no parking here. Office is small. Doctors are short with you as well to get you in and out. Definitely just business here and not community friendly. read more

They could never fit him in for important things and weren't helpful with my questions that were concerning. I used to have to call his old vet in AZ to get any kind of help. Dr. Mardell Ryan and team were absolutely wonderful in treating my little Noah. He's had chronic skin issues for the past 6 months and she got us a plan to 'attack it from all angles' and he's now doing great. I also shared I would be moving and she hooked us up with several months of prescriptions so we would be set if there was another flare up. The front desk staff is horrible! The persons name is Stephanie. I called about an issue with my Havanese and was out on hold for 10 minutes when I called back I was put on hold again. When she finally got back to me she told me that no vets were available to review my dogs records (he'd been in Monday with an allergy issue that isn't improving). She told me we can wait for an appt Friday evening or nothing. I asked her if another vet could review the records and she absolutely refused. This is the 3rd time she's been rude on the phone. And it's clear she has zero compassion for the animals so I don't know why she is working there. She seems to be a horrible miserable human. read more

I hoped to never have to write a negative review but feel I have no choice.I felt I could trust my dogs health and well being to the people at this establishment,and found myself wishing I had done some research on the drug the vet recommended,which was referred to as,The Old Dog shot.My dog was a 12 and a 1/2 year old Aussie/Lab mix that was very healthy,and always happy. I mentioned to the Vet that she was slowing down a bit and he suggested Librela,which he said had very few side effects.She got her first shot 9/24 and was supposed to have a shot once a month for life.A couple weeks after the first shot she seemed to be moving better,so I thought it must be working and took her in for the next 3 months.During this time I noticed her appetite and energy levels started to drop off,she never had any problem with not wanting to eat.Then 2 weeks after her 4th shot I saw the news had a story about Librela,which is made by Zoetis, being reported by the FDA to all veterinary clinics to warn about the side effects being much worse than originally thought. The VCA never mentioned a thing about it,and had us scheduled for the next shot,which I refused.Before I had a chance to try any kind of detox she stopped eating,could barely walk and couldn't drink enough water.She coughed and was panting non stop 24/7.At this point I didn't have any confidence that the vet would do the right thing.She had a seizure and died 3 weeks later,and they didn't believe it had anything to do with Librela,and then they wanted me to bring her dead body in to do a necropsy.NO WAY,thanks VCA!!! SAY NO TO LIBRELA!!! read more

We were traveling and our little boo who had been experiencing worsening CHF took a turn for the worse. They handled him and us so kindly and compassionately. I do not think we are ever ready to lose our fur family but at least we know ours was handled with care. They made it very easy to take care of his remains and yesterday we got his remains with a kind note, a piece of his fur and his paw print. I am a veteran ICU nurse and I know what you did is what I did but to receive understanding and kindness from strangers left our hearts full. Brought in my 3 pups before traveling/moving out of state. We've been here a couple of other times. The intake is super quick, I didn't wait more than 5 min which I truly appreciated with the chaos that was occurring in the small waiting area. When I was brought back I spoke to one of the vet techs for my overall concerns, topics for the appt. It felt very rushed and she is very rude and condescending. The blond receptionist could definitely learn some soft skills but the other one is much nicer. The receptionist gave me a hard time about asking for the free sample they had offered me. I'm not sure that I like that they take your pets from you to the back. I can see the pros on their side, efficiency etc... but overall I don't prefer that. The vet Dr.Ryan was very professional, nice, and explained everything well. This place is super pricey which is to be expected from a VCA 'corporate' type establishment. But almost $50 for a 2-min nail trim!!!! My jaw dropped on that one. It was my first time getting my dogs nails trimmed and since my dog nail clippers were already with our packed items, I thought I'd get it taken care of. But wow I really was expecting somewhere in the $15-25 max. Ironically, that was the only thing I didn't get the price for ahead of time so that's partially my fault. Overall, if I were staying in the area I would probably look for a different vet establishment. The vet was okay but the attitude of the staff and pricing is not worth it. read more

Not only did they change my appointment without asking or telling me, when I called to address the change who ever answered the phone was incredibly rude. I felt like I was pulling teeth to get any sort of answer. For not an adequate one I received. Was told the person who answered didn't change the appointment but their coworker did, asked why, they said they didn't do it so they don't know. Asked to speak to said coworker who changed it, was told they aren't there, then asked to speak to the manager, was told they weren't there either. Communicated that it felt they didn't care for this obvious inconvenience and went to go on to explain this was dimming my trust in this establishment to be rudely cut off with an elevated tone and clearly disrespectful attitude how they were not the person who changed the appointment and had nothing else to say. No apology, no I'll ask or get to the bottom nothing. I did cancel my appointment since this gave me such a bad feeling. If this is how they treat me I couldn't help but think how they would treat my fur baby or me any other time of interaction. read more

Just had our first appointment for my two fur babies, Loki & Sebastian, for their first appointment with VCA. We've got an elderly cocker spaniel & a high energy border collie, and VCA handles the joint appointment FLAWLESSLY & with compassion. My babies LOVED Dr. Purbaugh. They were incredibly upfront with pricing, and was much more affordable with their 'pet plans'. I feel confident in the care, and they GENUINELY cared for our pups. I brought my cat in here for an annual check-up and shots. I've been here once before and met with Dr. Ryan who was very pleasant. For today's appointment, I was assigned Dr. Dammeyer & frankly, I was disappointed in my experience. While the check-in was quick, they take you into an exam room, but it's treated like another waiting room, because the vet tech took my cat into the back for the actual appointment (exam, shots). I don't doubt that they did the work they said they did, but it's a little unnerving to not know exactly what the exam consisted of. I was not told ahead or after what shots he was given specifically by either the vet tech or the vet. My main concern, however, was Dr. Dammeyer's manner. He came in, shook my hand, and then told me that my cat needed dental work (normal for his age) and said "poor (cat's name), his belly is so much bigger than his chest." My cat is a breed that is known for being round/barrel-shaped and large. I'm not saying that he couldn't stand to lose a little weight, but Dr. Dammeyer seemed incredibly alarmed at his weight and told me to cut his food immediately by 25% even though everything I've read has stated that reducing a cat's food intake drastically can have severe health ramifications. Furthermore, he didn't spend any time in explaining why his weight was a concern. They did no blood work and my cat is very playful and spry despite his size. The icing on the cake for me, though, was when Dr. Dammeyer started to explain about "calories in / calories out." My cat being overweight isn't a lack of knowledge about how calories work. I would have really appreciated if Dr. Dammeyer hadn't been so off-putting and sought to maybe investigate what I've tried diet-wise to help my cat and given me some tips. He also didn't tell me even a range about how much my cat should weigh, so I'm not sure when to stop the diet or how much weight loss is too rapid. Overall, a poor experience for 10 mins and $200 and I will be making sure none of my appointments are booked with Dr. Dammeyer going forward. read more

Sadly, even if you are an existing patient, you can't get an appointment with a doctor for more than a month! They refer you to their ER, where you can wait in your car with your pet for up to 6 hours!!! The girl Cindy blames it on COVID!!!! Oh and people not answering their phones! Why are you not opened like medical offices are??? I would think the way it's running, it would be a lot faster and easier considering the Doctor doesn't have to see or talk to humans!!! I've been very hesitant to write this review because for the most part...it's a positive one. There was an incident that happened that I did not appreciate which knocked one star off but will I use this facility again? Yes. They're awesome. They care. I have a Pomeranian who is a momma's boy. I can't over exaggerate this enough. He is either really clingy or really protective; there's no in between. Like I don't like the doctors, he does not like the vets. If he doesn't know you & he gets cornered & gets liquid put up his nose uncomfortably, he will get angry. The last time we took him there to get vaccinated the gal who took care of him didn't give me a chance to walk him to the back with her or hold him - & I know he needs this because I know his personality. She took his leash & disappeared. Of course I heard a commotion & she came out with a sassy look on her face - you could also tell she couldn't wait to hand my pom back off to me. She lead with "You should really think about getting him fixed." It took me by surprise that that's the deliverance she chose to tell me that he nipped her. As angry as I was with the way she wanted to talk about it, I apologized on behalf of my scared dog & asked if she was okay. Of course she was; he gets scared but he doesn't get in full attack mode. Also, it's not her dog to decide that he should be fixed just because she didn't like his personality. The conversation could have went differently; that's all I'm trying to get at here. The rest of the staff is superb, she is too, up until your pet upsets her I guess? Really I sympathize & feel bad that my pom get upset with her but working with people & their pets that's not the kind of customer service skill that you want. read more

I went today and was unaware of the new policy they had about covid. I get covid but they, the desk receptionist should have informed me of their policy when I made the appointment. That's common courtesy and customer service. I waited at the door, which they saw me, and finally dug out my phone to call. At this time I was already not happy because of the construction it took me 10 minutes to find a place to park. My girls are 60 & 70 lbs respectively. She was asking me about the girls, and I asked her to come outside to talk to me, but that didn't' happen. Then she said their clinic was not the size of a grocery store. DUH! Then she said that they would only bring them in one at a time and I had to wait outside. NO, not in the cold. I did get a bit curt but so did she. I worked customer service in my professional life and I will not be back to that clinic. For more reasons that this but this was the last straw. read more

Just adopted my pug Arthur and he was showing signs of skin irritation... after checking reviews I decided to try VCA. I was not disappointed. I was able to easily schedule an appointment that fit with my schedule online and they sent multiple reminders of the appointment ( which for me is huge). While RVing in the area, one of my dogs, an 11yo Cocker Spaniel, somehow hurt herself and began to limp. I gave it a few days of home treatment but it appeared to get worse not better. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I brought Lady in. I was very pleased with the quietness and low key atmosphere of this facility. All the staff were warm and gentle with my dog (and me). I was very pleased with Dr Mike's handling of Lady. He took the time to thoroughly inform me of his findings and the treatment plan. He also took the time to let me ask other, unrelated questions while I had the opportunity. The visit was not rushed in the least, unlike some vet visits I've experienced. If I lived in the Silverdale area, this would most certainly be where I would bring my pets. Last, but not least, the exam cost was surprisingly low compared to New England making it even better. read more

I genuinely love this clinic & so does my doggo. Each staff member has always been kind and communicable. Because of all of the COVID craziness and all groomers being booked through the beginning of August, I took my dog here to get his nails trimmed. He has always had really long quicks so I was not at all disappointed in the actual trim. My concern comes from pricing... Typically a nail trim costs $7-10 or $15-20 for grinding... I paid $34.50 today for a nail trim and actually cried when I got into the car. Please for the love of animals and pet owners re-evaluate your pricing for this frequent routine service. read more

We LOVE this vet! Our kitties Clementine & Lola come here for their check-ups and to get their flea medicine. Every time we have stopped in to pick up their medicine we have been greeted by fantastic front desk girls. We brought Clementine in for her check up last week and she was very obviously scared to be there. The vet and everyone in the clinic made her (as well as me) feel more comfortable. I know our baby gets nervous around other people and they did everything they could to make her feel at ease. I'm very happy we have such a phenomenal vet for our kitties. We were so thankful to find this place after a couple of bad experiences at other places with our Mastiff puppy who had a few problems growing. They really do a thorough job, treat us like family and understand our pets are our family too. The environment is clean and friendly, the staff is courteous and knowledgeable. The location is definitely a pleasant bonus as it is on the waterfront next to a park, where you can walk your dog. We take our cats there as well, and couldn't see ourselves going anywhere else. Absolutely the BEST vet I've ever worked with. They are very responsive and LISTEN to me with empathy and compassion.

VCA is a wonderful little place, for this was my first time visiting. All the employees were super friendly, and you could tell that they really did care for their clients. My pet is a 8 week old Golden Retriever and the care they give him is fantastic. They gave guides to potty training, and a huge bag of supplies, which is the free puppy bundle. It comes with a pretty big bag of dog food and a few small kits. Then, there's a puppy bundle for vaccines and such for $399. And, the first visit is free! read more

We moved to the area in August and our Boston Terrier has started limping on and off before we left New Jersey. We made an appt at VCA to confirm my fear that Murphy will most likely need surgery. I can't remember the vet that I saw but he was so kind and gentle with Murphy. He said he could feel his knee pop out of place and drew me a picture of what was happening. However unlike most other vets he didn't insist on taking X-rays because he said that the surgeon would most likely want his own and he didn't want me to be double charged!! I couldn't believe it! I took my 17 year old cat in on Tuesday for open abscesses on his feet because his regular vet had no availability. They wanted to charge us right around $1,100 for them to basically surgically operate on his feet, do a culture on the puss contained in the abscess, and then bandage his foot (the rest was stuff that made sense like anesthesia, antibiotics, an E-collar), and then they wanted to have me bring in my cat everyday for weeks to have my cat's bandages changed and stressed that we could not bandage him at home because we could potentially make him worse to the point that he would need amputation. The daily bandage changes would, of course, cost $45 a day. Then they ran a CBC on my cat, said he has kidney failure and anemia, said that he would need a blood transfusion before she could clean out his feet. Then she said "If he were my cat, I would be putting him down today", and insisted I euthanize him. I took him home, my cat's old, but he's still eating, drinking, going to the litterbox, walking, and jumping all on his own, he doesn't seem like he's on his way out. So I called his regular vet and made the soonest next available appointment. I took him to his regular vet today who basically disagreed with every recommendation the vet at VCA made. My cat just needs antibiotics and betadine soaks for his feet (and the dreaded cone of shame). He does have anemia and kidney failure but as long as we manage those (and not with a blood transfusion) he could live for years. His regular vet said that he looks great even considering his age and health problems. I can't tell if the vet at VCA just didn't know what she was talking about, or if she was trying to con me into spending thousands of dollars for treatment that my cat didn't actually need by saying we needed to put him down if we didn't go through with the very aggressive treatment plan, and I honestly don't know which one is worse. read more

I've lived in the Central Kitsap/East Bremerton community for more than 50 years. Frankly, I go to Olympic Animal Hospital because Mike Ryan, DVM, works there on a part time basis. He used to own or be a principal in the business. I followed him to another nearby clinic after he sold his business because he worked there on a part time basis. But then he started spending most of his local time at Olympic so I transferred my account there. Of course, it's not ALL about Mike Ryan, as the staff is very friendly and when you go there you are seen first by a veterinary technician prior to the veterinarian coming into the room. With anywhere from two to six dogs at any given time - and one very patient cat - my husband and I KNOW excellent Veterinary services when we receive them. Our pets are never fearful of going to Olympic Animal Hospital for exams, emergencies, and even for occasional boarding. Olympic has been our preferred pet wellness place for many years. All the people there are friendly, helpful and caring to the max. They've even shed tears with us when a faithful friend has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. The Veterinarians are gentle and truly enjoy getting to know each pet. They are very honest, too, even if the news isn't what pet parents were hoping to hear. We couldn't ask for a better place to entrust the care of our furry kids. read more
