I moved to Shelton last year and in the past two months I've needed to bring 2 of my beloved cats to see them, LC a 15 year old American Shorthair, and Oreo, a rambunctious 1 year old Shorthair Tuxedo. LC had stopped eating for more than three weeks and had lost 2 1/2 lbs, since an emergency vet visit 2 weeks prior to my visit. Oreo had an upper respiratory infection as well as a flea infestation. On both visits the staff were professional and friendly. They listened carefully to my explanations of my cat's needs and did appropriate testing to diagnose and treat both cats. LC has since been eating normally and is back to her happy energetic self. Oreo just began his treatment but is already doing better and even wanted to go outside briefly this morning. He isn't itching nearly as much and has a lot more energy. Overall I was very happy with both the standard of care, the promptness of care (easy to get an appointment), as well as the cleanliness of the facility. The prices weren't extreme either, as with some other local vet offices. My only tidbit of criticism was from my first visit with LC. Two different customers had young, male, pitbulls. The dogs are growling and barking loudly at each other and both owners had to put all their weight into their leashes to restrain them, and this went on for nearly 10 minutes while my LC was terrified in her pet carrier. Meanwhile, after one of the pitbulls was called back to an exam room, another client with a great dane walked in, and once again the pitbull went psycho aggressive. Honestly, it made me uncomfortable. On my visit with Oreo, since he might have been contagious, they had me wait in my car until they were ready to take him back to an exam room. I would advise that perhaps the clinic do the same with pitbulls or other unruly and potentially dangerous pets in the future. Overall my experiences were good and that last bit was why only 4 instead of 5 stars. Hopefully in the future I can give a full 5 star rating. read more

This is in Reference to my Experience today at this Vet Center in Belfair, Wa., today, where I took my Dog Sophie. I had made a prior Appointment for Immunization and Refills on her Medication, 6 weeks prior. We met with a Veterinarian named Heidi B. We started our Conversation with giving detailed information on Sophie's Other Veterinary Visits prior, and gave medical history ( Colitis) From Dr. Gill at Oak Valley, Beaumont, Ca. Dr. Gill did extensive testing & care, on Sophie. The Medicine is Tried and Truly Effective, given with Preventative Care when she has attack of (Colitis) . This has been her life long history, which Dr Gill has Diagnosed 2 years ago. Heidi B failed to listen to health information and Treatment Plan in place for Sophie for 2 years, Oak Valley Vet Center would have gladly Confirmed all this information! In less than 2 minutes. Instead Heidi B. did not want to talk about Colitis care of Sophie, she had no clue of how treatment works and preventive treatment measures work to prevent an episode Colitis. Instead she want to talk about having my My dog Neutered, LOL. I tried to explain to her, why I scheduled this appointment, I tried to explained Sophie's Health History and Her History of her Parents ( Colitis). Her lack of knowledge and understanding of treatment for Colitis was missing. She wasn't sure about the medications & how. to get them , I suggested prescription so I can have it on hand & prevent pain & Discomfort go my dog, pain & suffering. I then realized she was unprepared and could care less for my little dog & give proper care to her! She said she would look into the medications, but wouldn't today and left us more confused than before! She Never came back..I had no idea what happened , other than my dog and I were over charged $300 2 immunizations, 6 antibiotics tablets. This was the worst case of a Veterinarian Care ever! I took my four little Shelties in here on January 31,2025 for annual wellness visits and to get some paperwork signed for Therapy Dogs International. When they did the blood draw for my two year olds heartworm test they punctured the vein in her rear leg and it was bleeding all over. I had to ask the assistant after the tech left to wrap it and pressure tape it to stop the bleeding. She told me I could clean it when I get home. A 45 minute drive. She was limping on it all night and hiding under my bed. Dr. Brees also told me I need to vaccinate my 2-13&1/2 year-olds for distemper. I told her no way. Shelties are extremely sensitive to distemper vaccines and I lost an eight year-old to one a few years ago. - you can't give an older dog unnecessary vaccines. I will make informed decisions about my pet's health. Then Adrian comes back in and says that Dr. Heidi Brees won't sign my paperwork until I can prove that I filled my dog's heartworm medicine at my previous vets office. They held my paperwork hostage until I sent pictures of my prescriptions. Basically calling me a liar. Then I had to drive 45 minutes each way the following day to pick my paperwork up again, as I needed original copies. The hospital manager was nice, but couldn't help me because we were having bad weather. Also, when I asked Adrian for a copy of a rabies vaccine, she turned and asked me why I didn't have it... who cares why I don't have it? I just moved cross country & I just asked for a copy. And I didn't get one. This place is expensive,impersonal & unknowlegable. They seem to just be interested in testing and making money from vaccines and tests. I will not go here again. If this is what a well visit looks like and I have to leave upset what will it look like when there is an emergency? read more

Took my sweet 9 year old Irish Wolfhound to get peacefully put to sleep. Asked if the could do it in my van as he could not walk and was turning blue. They said no ! They put him on a gurney way to small for him then didn't even get 100 feet from the car and allow him to fall off the gurney onto the sidewalk. Asked if they could just ask the vet to come out and do it as I did not want to put him back on the gurney they said absolute not and were very rude about it. I've never seen less compassion in my entire life. I'm so heart broken and the audacity of the staff to ask me if I want them to send a condolence card is just outrageous. My experience with this vet and everyone who interacted with Bear and me was wonderful. The examination of my cat was thorough and urine was taken. I received a text the next morning to expect an email from Dr. Brees. The results of the lab were given to me, the very next day, in an email from Dr. Brees. Dr. Brees also provided a great deal of information concerning Bear's condition, links to obtain additional information concerning his condition (sterile cystitis), and suggestions about things we can do to help our pet live his best life. I can't say enough good things about the help I received, from the scheduling of the appointment the next day on an emergent basis, to providing me the medicines we would need. I received a personal explanation about what each medicine was for, and how to administer each. In addition, I received written instructions. Dr. Brees was kind and gentle, and all of the staff made me feel that we mattered. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the cost of the exam, an ultrasound, obtaining the urine sample, 6 months worth of NexGard Combo, and two prescriptions, did not break the bank. read more

We had to put our 15-year-old dog down recently. Everyone at Belltowne was so kind and caring. The vet techs were extremely gentle with our dog, and the vets compassion and patience with us was really heartwarming. they walked us through every step of the process, so there were no surprises. Doctor wouldn't see my dog without having him medicated prior. MD didn't tell me what mediation and walked off. Dr prescribed medication my dog had a prior reaction to. Came in for next appt, wouldn't see him without giving the medication he has prior bad reaction to. Then asked if I brought a muzzle. Wouldn't see him without us having him medicated with meds he's allergic to. Shamed us for not giving med and said we broke our agreement. We made no agreement with the Dr just walked out on prior appt. We asked for a visit with another provider after having this terrible experience. Office never returned our call or request. They had been the vet to our dogs and cat for years. Not going back to this office ever again. They also state they don't have any openings for prpmpt care when pet is sick and tell us to go to emergency vet. What's the point in going to a vet if they won't accommodate your pet when they're sick and won't see your pet when they're well without heavily medicating them or putting a muzzle on them. Plus they wanted to charge me for the visit when the vet didn't assess my pet. They wanted to charge for no services being done. Terrible vet! read more

I have a 9 year old golden retriever who gets recurrent UTI's due to her "anatomy" (diagnosed by vet at this location 4 years ago) She got a UTI on Saturday and I atarted her on Amoxicillin 500 I had on hand twice daily to try to clear it up. This is what they prescribed previously. She took her last dose and was still having symptoms so I called to get her on a different course of antibiotics. The front office staffs demeanor is condescending but I go to this vet out of convenience since it's close to our home. They quoted me $500 to fit her in today. With $168 of that charge being an exam and kenneling fee. They called me an hour after I dropped her off to say they wanted to take X-rays of her front paw to rule out cancer. I let them know it's an old injury (also diagnosed by them 7 ish years ago from when she jumped off a ledge going after a ball & that she takes glucosamine for it & it swells every year when it's cold) They then proceeded to tell me they haven't looked at her bladder yet but that when they get the sample it will take up to 2 weeks for the lab to come back in which time she will not be prescribed antibiotics. My frustration is in the fact that I paid $168 just to get her in today and a total of $500 to have them tell me about previously diagnosed problems that were diagnosed within their office & wait up to 2 weeks and then pay more for antibiotics despite the fact that $90 of the $500 I paid was for "miscellaneous medicine" read more

We've been taking our dogs here for about a year. They recommended an arthritis shot for our older lady, and now she is significantly more comfortable. It's been a game changer for her. I also called in thinking she had a UTI and an appointment was made for the next day. The receptionist I spoke to was super friendly and took down tons of notes when I called to make sure she was passing along the right information. Look ya'll, it's the only vet in Belfair. Sometimes they won't have appointments. And just because a vet isn't gushing over your animal doesn't mean you're not getting the best care, people just show how they care differently. read more

But now I wouldn't recommend this veterinarian to anyone, because although we told the receptionist that our 15 year old dog is in distress to the point she can longer stand, the response was sorry we don't have the time to see her, you might try a different clinic. Right guess what? No local clinic is accepting new customer. As we watch our beloved pet slowly wither and die, the uncaring attitude and callous actions of the receptionist and "triage team" will not be forgotten. read more

Called at 8 A.M Tuesday to try to get our dog in for a consult for a severe cough. They couldn't get us in 4 to 5 days. This would be next week. Their suggestion was to go to one of the available emergency vets...all close to an hour away. We went to one of them and they told us up front that it could easily be 600 to800 dollars to see her. We reluctantly left. We are long time customers and they have NO ability to see anything of an urgent nature. they will happily take your money but have no sense of customer loyalty. We feel such disappointment in their recent care. Would not recommend them. Will never go back to them If I could give them less than 1 star I would. read more

Been taking our pets here for over 25 years. Never left the vet with any of our pets shaking and traumatized until today. Took dog in for nail trim and tech cut every nail into the quick. No apologies nothing very upset. If they can't do something they should own up to it and ask for help. Could hear dog screaming in the back. I saw them for ongoing pain my cat had been experiencing. (our standard vet was in seatttle) she had an adverse reaction to the medication and we rushed her down the next morning as she was having problems standing. They refused to see her saying she was fine. The next day was worse and we headed to the emergency vet yet there was nothing they could do. ive had an awful experience overall. in july 2021, i had my 4 pound male dog neutered. we received him back, and he wasnt acting the same, we brought him back and THEY SAID the doctor added too many stitches that were too tight, they got infected and that "shes a new doctor, mistakes happen" absolutely not. hes so small they " had" to make an incision almost all the way up his penis because they "couldnt find" his other testicle when it just couldnt fit through his skeleton. he's a four pound toy poodle and it's ridiculous that youd let someone practice on him. he still has a lump in his abdomen and a weird scar that is crusty. read more

Just got back form our first visit...LOVED IT! I have been to many veterinarians in my long, strange life, but I have never seen a doctor, nor a staff, as wonderful as these folks! They treated Albert like he was their own dog! The doctor even got on the FLOOR to treat him because they didn't want to traumatize my dog by putting him on those dreadful cold, stainless steel tables. I have never seen that done before! AND THAT IS JUST STANDARD PROCEDURE...not done just for Albert. Needless to say, we have found our "furever" home when our sweet dogs need attention. These folks are highly recommended and they really know their stuff. They are intelligent, very reasonably priced and astoundingly compassionate. I take both our frenchie & pit bull there. We have gone in for various reasons and the customer service is always on point. We have been pleased with the transparency given. They clearly explained why we would do certain things and options with regards to different conditions. They have said we could do X but it would be a waste of your money. That is HUGE!! Most places with just say you have to do it even if its a waste of money! Their pricing is competitive, but I feel, I receive a much better customer service here than other clinics we have gone to. I have been able to drop my pet off for treatment and come back when she was ready. I have been able to speak directly via phone/email and text with the doctors. I have had good service when I have a appointment. I have had to take my dog in unexpectedly 6 time for things ranging from salmon poisoning to swallowing a fish hook. They refused to see him each time so I took him to All Creatures in Gorst. Yesterday when he swallowed a fish hook the Vet at all creatures rescheduled her afternoon appointments to perform immediate suregery on him. It turned out to be highly important to perform the surgery immediately. The treble hook was imbedded in his stomach and the foot and a half of fishing line attached to it had not gotten into his intestines yet. I will not go to a vet again that won't see my dog when it really matter. read more

My husband and I had to put our dog down yesterday, she likely had bone cancer. It happened very fast and Dr. Ryan and his team were there every step of the way. He was so lovely and sorry that he couldn't save her. While waiting in the parking lot to get blood work results back I left my key turned over and my battery died and Dr. Ryan ran to grab some jumper cables and jumped my car for us. I recently moved from California where I had an outstanding veterinarian. It was time for my doggie to get her shots updated so I scheduled an appointment with this vet. The appointment process was difficult. You signed up online but they could only confirm through a phone call and not email. The phone service I have is a little dodgy so it was hard to actually get an appointment and there wasn't another way to get a confirmation. Finally after 3 weeks they scheduled the appointment and asked me to bring my dog records and a stool sample in. Asking for records is pretty typical, but a stool sample? The only time I've ever had to do that is if something was wrong with my dog and they needed to blood work. So they want you to bring a stool sample and then they charge you for it? This seems really fishy to me. Unless it had been determined that my dog needed blood work this shouldn't be a requirement. But okay, I'll do it for my little dog. The vet appointment was great, the techs were sweet and knowledgeable and even the vet was kind and respectful. She explained everything in detail. My biggest complaint is really just the prices, it would have cost me over $300 for vaccines and bloodwork. My last vet in California for the same thing cost a little over $100. So I couldn't afford all the necessary procedures and only got the exam, the stool test, and the vaccines, still over $175. They also kept trying to push holistic medicine on me. I don't care for holistic medicine, when I say they offered it on the website it almost deterred me from going to this vet, but my friend who recommended this place said that this vet was great. The facility is really nice, the people are great, but the prices are so overwhelming high and they push unnecessary holistic medicine on you. I'm not saying holistic is bad, but it's not something I really buy into. Probably won't go here, but if you're rolling in money and like holistic medicine then be my guest :) read more

I had to bring my older cat in for an annual check-up in order to get his prescription cat food refilled/re-approved. We used to be clients at the other local vet but they closed down and referred us to Belltowne. The check-up went as usual & they treated Casper like gold! The vet (Dr Shawn Thomas) took his time to talk with me and explain everything pretty thoroughly which was nice. He also followed up with direct phone calls and I was really surprised at that. I thought it was a nice touch. Their front desk staff has always been generally nice, no complaints there. I also liked that they have late hours, which is super convenient for full-time working people [like me]. Only downside to this establishment: No online order/auto shipment option through the vet for our diabetic cat food (or probably anything else, either). Bummer. I did find many online options, though, and scored the RX food for less than the vet charged for the same stuff. Just takes a little more effort on your part to initiate, but worth looking into if this scenario applies to you. read more

I am helping care for my aunt's cat while she is undergoing cancer treatments and Otis the cat had a nasty issue pop up (tapeworms --eeeeew!). I have to say, I was super impressed with the people at Belltowne Veterinary Center. They got Otis in quickly and were very friendly and efficient. They listened to me and took in all the details--they had already pulled his previous vet records by the time we came in the next day. They were very thorough and caring. Dr. Ryan was gentle with Otis and seemed genuinely invested in his wellbeing. As a side note, I found it interesting that he also used the tapeworm egg sacs he found on Otis as a learning experience for his staff by collecting them on slides. To me, that shows a doctor who is committed to teaching and helping his staff develop professionally! My experience today was very positive and I'd recommend this clinic to others. read more

My local usual vet "All Creatures" was booked up with surgery and not able to see my cat who was lethargic and obviously in distress (they referred me to Uptown ER in Gig Harbor) so I tried Belltowne who is also local to our residence to see if they had any openings. Not surprised they had no openings. I'm not sure if the receptionist was having a bad morning or what but before I could even ask if she could get back to me if they had any cancellations that morning she cut me off with, "We are booked out through February!" and hung up! Now for a Veterinarians office there was definitely no compassion for a customer with a sick animal. RUDE! I ended up taking my cat to Uptown ER Vet and honestly they were excellent, found he had an infection and 3 phone calls from the Dr. (Due to Covid not able to go inside) sent him home that day. We called Belltowne on a Sunday because our vet was closed. We were told they don't have any appointments open, but the receptionist said she would talk with the doctor and call us back. Within 10 minutes she called back and said that Dr. Ryan could fit us in between appointments. We arrived and were treated as if we had been loyal patients for years, even though it was our first time there. We were placed in a room and told that the doc would be with us shortly. They even came in and checked on us when the doc was running behind. Our experience with Dr Ryan was great. He was so good with our puppy and we did not at one point feel rushed or like we were a burden to him. He asked us multiple times if we had and questions and if there is anything else he can do for us. He didn't push any procedures or treatments and their prices are very fair. Needless to say Dr Ryan has earned our trust and we will be seeing him and his staff only in the future. read more

I got there at 510pm and on the phone they said my appointment was at 530pm but when I got there they said it was at 5, they wouldn't look at her ears, to me that's heartless read more

Yesterday was the first time I had ever brought our dog to Belltowne. We switched to Belltowne because it was more convenient for us and we felt that last Vet we went to overcharged us for antibiotics. They are open 7 days a week and have long hours which makes it extremely convenient for us since we both work. They answered the phone right away and were able to get me in the same day. When I arrived they had me fill out some paperwork and gave a welcome packet with tons of information on services they offer. They had toys, tea/coffee in the waiting room which was great since I had a busy toddler in tow. The assistant was great with our dog and took her back to get a sample while we waited in the front. The doctor was very thorough, explaining what he was doing the entire time. Letting me know our dog is overall healthy. He asked me lots of questions and he determined she had a bladder infection. He didn't push anything on us like we've experienced at other offices. Walking out the door we payed less then $70 for the exam, urine analysis and antibiotics! This was insanely cheap to us considering we payed over $150 for antibiotics at the last vet we went to. Overall this place was great! I was really nervous after reading the past reviews and I'm glad I gave it a shot. read more

We moved from Belfair and out of convenience started taking Doogie to a vet in Gorst. After many visits, medical procedures and thousands of dollars due to an ailment which was diagnosed anywhere from mere allergies to a psychological disorder by that place we went back to Dr. Isbel at Belltowne for a 2nd opinion. She took some biopsies, sent them out (the previous vet took biopsies but did not sent them out) and 4 days later a diagnosis of cutaneous lupus came back. She put Doog on a med and within a week the foot sores and skin bumps disappeared; he stopped gnawing at his feet, his energy and appetite returned and he started playing with his toys again. No more "hood of shame" or socked feet. He'd been miserable for over a year and now we're so excited for him. Thank you Dr. Nancy, Melissa and Belltowne staff for giving back our little guy. I can't thank all the staff enough for the care and service they provided. I had a terminally ill cat and while I was sure she had to be euthanized the vet gave her a thorough exam to confirm my belief. I was able to see the doctor within 3 hours of when I called. I was given several options on how to proceed with no pressing to chose any particular one. In other words, no upsell in an emotional crisis. I was given time to grieve and not rushed to pay my bill and leave. The end costs were reasonable and less than they would have been at other veterinary practices. I have used 6 different veterinary clinics over the last 40 years and would rank this one at the top. read more

They say first impressions are everything. If this is the case, don't come here. We called up to have our very recently adopted cat treated for a URI she caught at the Humane Society. Whomever my husband spoke to said they could get her in today at 9:30. My husband brought her in on time and was told by an older receptionist with short grey hair that no appointment was ever made. He showed her the call log on his phone as proof he spoke to someone there. She was very rudely told him there was nothing they could do and sent him on his way, sick kitty in tow. She didn't once apologize for the mistake and inconvenience, nor did she try to reschedule any sort of appointment. read more

I'm sure you re posting to make the business look better but it wasn't that you guys couldn't take him it was that your receptionist said right from the get go that he wasn't sick enough to be put down. We had taken him to the regular vet for a year and things had progressed, there was no saving him which was confirmed by multiple vets. So it was just downright horrible to make someone feel guilty about having to put their beloved family animal to sleep when its already hard enough. At this point there is nothing you could say to make it OK, we went through it already months ago and had to deal with hearing that comment on top of the already grief we felt...its done and over with now. All I know is I wouldn't ever recommend Belltowne Vet Center. read more
