Was back to one of our local favorites after the LONG Covid shutdown. I am happy to report that things are just as yummy as ever. Today I had some chicken salad on white toast -very good bread to filling ratio. Chicken salad was white meat with a good mix of mayo to filling. The hubby had his usual Buddy Burger, two all beef patties on a toasted bun. Food was fresh and tasty and it was just great to be out and doing something "normal". I will say this again, this place is a true time machine. It is a local pharmacy and people who wait on you with care vs. the big box let me sling something at you. The food being hand made and served by people who care is just an additional bonus. read more

Stopped in for vitamins, fell over laughing in the greeting card section (SERIOUSLY you have to look!), and stayed for malted milk shake and a burger. Feels like a perfect combo of a place where everybody is welcome, the service is down to earth and thoughtful (afghans available if the AC is too cold for you in the diner) and it's always a good idea to stop by. read more

Love love love everything about Wheelers. A family owned pharmacy with a diner- this isn't your cvs or walgreens. The pharmacists at Wheelers are very approachable, friendly, and helpful. The diner is open for breakfast & lunch- the lunch is good and has hot and cold sandwich options, but their breakfast is my favorite. Biscuits, pancakes, eggs...all the good stuff. There are definitely regulars, and it seems like the staff and customers are all old friends- probably because they are. Wheelers may seem kind of simple and unassuming; but it's great- definitely a kind of business that you don't come by often, and I'm glad to have it in the Lexington community. read more

I've lived in Lexington for almost 17 years, but it didn't take me long to find Wheeler's. This place has been described as "Cheers without the beers," and it's true! There are many people you will encounter on any given day and instantly be able to identify them as regulars - maybe even LIFERS! When you walk through the doors all you see is pharmacy, but hidden against the far right wall is an old school diner and soda fountain, right there in the store! Lee (female) has been working at the fountain for almost 23 years and Ricky probably just as long. I love everything about this place; the friendliness, the allure of its uniqueness, the great prices for the portions, the milkshakes, and of course the FOOD! My go-to is breakfast, but I finally tried lunch for the first time, and the Buddy Burger and regular fries didn't disappoint. My boyfriend inhaled the Stuart Burger and seasoned fries (more like potato wedges), too. Back to breakfast though, be sure to ask for your biscuits GRILLED - you won't be sorry! The last time I was at Wheeler's coincided with a tragic event in our family three years ago, and yesterday was my first trip back since. As I reminisced Lee was so sweet and gave me the biggest hug. Tried the deluxe cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate malt today on a recommendation from a co-worker. Atmosphere/Service: Set in a routine pharmacy with a old dinner circa 1958 in the back right corner, would have been complete with a table jukebox and a selection of 60's song... alas there wasn't any. Steady flow of customer that appear to be regulars ranging from teenagers to AARP members. Staff was very friendly and service was quick, though I think their overall happiness could have been improved (perhaps the missing jukebox would help). Food: The deluxe cheeseburger had a buttered and toasted bun, with generous slices of cheese, unions, lettuce, and some sauce. The meat was of good quality, cooked perfectly, and had good flavor... overall a good burger that is just the right size. The fries were the thick cut variety, fried fresh, but nothing to write home about. The malt was made with real milk and ice cream and tasted great, but could have been improved with a bit more malt and if not served in a styrofoam cup (I like whip cream, cherry, wafer curls, and a big glass mug with a bigger stainless steel mixer glass sitting beside it for a 5 star review). Conclusion: If your in the mood for the quintessential american fast food trio and in the area, skip the chain joints and check out Wheeler Pharmacy. read more

I read about Wheeler's in a guide book and online. I was expecting an old sod shop in the back of a cute old-school pharmacy circa 1958. That was no it at all. Some of those things are true, but this is a still working pharmacy that is not stuck in the '50's. It's stuck in the '80's. The dirty (maybe mold) smell is a bit overwhelming when you first walk in. Somehow we pushed on past all the out of date toys and cards and found a time capsule in the back. The soda counter still exists, complete with Pepsi posters from the 80's. It reminded me of being a kid. The food was typical greasy spoon fare. The sausage and eggs were quite good. It was also neat seeing all the local flavor. Tourists don't find their way in here too often, I imagine. Its a very strange kitschy and slightly bland stop. Definitely something to see, but don't expect too much. -eatthisny read more

I started using Wheeler pharmacy a couple of weeks ago for a certain prescription that is hard to get filled anywhere else. Everyone was a delight to work with and went out of their way to help me out. I stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and as soon as I walked inside, I felt as if I had stepped back in time to my childhood years. The look, the smell, everything was like I remembered my hometown pharmacy being. It was incredible. After picking up my prescription, I walked by the dining area and stopped for a minute (it had already closed for the day). I stood there and stared, full of emotion, thinking I was 10 years old again, without a care in the world. Some places have to grow on you before you feel like leaving a glowing review, but Wheeler had me as soon as I walked through the front door. Thanks to everyone! :) read more

Great place for breakfast. Enjoyed their eggs, bacon, toast and coffee. Also enjoyed the connection this place has to UK sports. Coaches often come in here on game day to grab a bite to eat and chat with the locals. Although I wasn't there on game day, I saw Oscar Combs. Joe B. Hall comes in on Saturdays, I heard. The place has a piece of the 2012 National Championship floor on the wall. Pretty unique if you ask me. They also sell the Breyer horses here, which is something you don't see everywhere. read more

It may look like run-of-the-mill neighborhood pharmacy, but don't be fooled. This place has a fantastic old school lunch counter in the back that reminds me of the diner in Back to the Future. "McFly!" You can actually get lunch for under 6 bucks, and it's delicious. Try the seasoned fries if you like potato wedges. read more

I can't speak to the food since I have never eaten there, but the pharmacy gets an A+ for friendly, extremely helpful customer service! The pharmacists here go out of their way to help customers. The first time I entered with a prescription, I didn't realize that I needed a separate RX card, I thought my insurance card would work. The pharmacist spent more than 30 minutes calling to get my insurance information so that I could pick up the medicine needed. By contrast a bigger pharmacy in town when I had my number but not my group policy didn't bother to look it up even though I work for UK and it should have been easy for them to find. Another time, the doctor didn't send in the RX as promised. The Pharmacist called the doctor's office to get the prescription and filled it quickly. They are very helpful, friendly, and I appreciate being able to give business to a small independently owned pharmacy. read more

I am 28 years old and have been coming to this place since I was a toddler! Very few things have changed since, the pharmacy looks revamped, but that's about it. The food is great, the candy section is crazy, and as for the 'out of date' toys, I find them awesome and nostalgic! Who can deny a Whoopi-Cushin, Hand Buzzer, and Silly Putty? Seriously cool place, and unlike most businesses, the staff actually treats you like a person rather than a number. read more

Wheeler's is one of the last independent drugstores in Lexington. Once upon a time there were several drugstores with a fountain/restaurant (Sageser's, Hutchison's, Hi-Acres). Now, only Wheeler's remains to fight the good fight. It is like stepping back in time to go in the store and order a greasy burger and thick shake.
