3/10/26 I came here for lunch and I ordered the Irish beef stew cup of soup and loaded potato salad, as well as got some Milton's gluten-free sea salt, crackers, and - pound of their amazingly delicious pimento cheese. I literally almost devoured it in the car before I left for work during my lunch break. The pimento cheese is the absolute best pimento cheese I've ever had in all of Kentucky. Everything was so delicious and piping hot and the customer service was excellent. I recommend this place to everyone and anyone who comes to Lexington as it is a hidden gem that everyone should know about and support. read more

Thought we'd try mouse trap after hear great things! We ordered Hearty Vegetable soup, Burgoo, Chicken salad sandwich and roast beef sandwich. The hearty Vegetable soup was at best a thin broth with a very few ingredients/ few vegetables ( a few potatoes and carrots only) here and there in the broth. Burgoo was thick and delicious!!! My chicken salad sandwich was made with a chicken salad that was so thin with too much mayonnaise and that to be cut up with fork and knife to eat. Roast beef sandwich was good. We have come here for decades, but not often in recent years. Both visits for sandwiches in the last year have been very mediocre. While the were made to order and the meat, cheese and vegetables fresh, the amount seemed less generous in the past. The bread was almost stale. I should have stuck with the amazing pimiento cheese. The staff, as always, seem bored and disinterested in customer service. The store continues to have interesting items for the table and kitchen, not sure I'll return for lunch. read more

A great place to stop in for sandwiches! We placed a to go order at The Mouse Trap with family in town and it made for the perfect lunch. There is a wide variety of bread options, sandwich fillings, and toppings. I had the tuna salad and loved the fresh dill! A friend mentioned recently that The Mouse Trap has great, homemade soups that change daily, so I decided to head down there for lunch today to see what they were offering--Potato/Bacon and Italian Rice and Beans. I went with the Potato/Bacon and it is truly delicious! Loaded up with chunks of potato and lots of bacon, it really hit the spot on this chilly day. I added a bit of salt and plenty of cracked pepper, which I recommend as potato soup usually needs a bit of both. To accompany it, I got a roast beef and swiss sandwich with horseradish sauce. The price of the sandwich ($8.99) had me a little concerned about the value, but it was absolutely loaded with beef and cheese, easily two meals for me, if I add chips, which I did! If you haven't been there, it's basically a deli-style operation. You place your order with one clerk, who gives the orders to a couple of people who assemble the orders. There were several indecisive customers ahead of me, so it took a while for me place my order. Then, since there were orders ahead of mine being prepared, I had to wait about ten minutes for my order to be prepared. No big deal, they have a ton of great merchandise to wander around and check out. Point being, make sure you have time to wait around a bit if you go during lunchtime. Highly recommended! read more

A nice upscale place for a good, clean, refreshing lunch. I've had sandwiches there a few times. It is always good. The prices aren't bad, but a little higher than I would expect. I'm sure the rent is very high though. It is located next to the Fire Station on Tates Creek road - inside the New Circle road. Easy to get to and plenty of parking. There are many other items to browse and purchase in The Mousetrap. If you haven't been there before - stop in. You will be glad you did. read more

I have come here pretty regularly for years. It is a combination of a cheese shop, gift shop, deli and gourmet kitchen supply shop. They have high end and imported items and foods. All very high quality. As far as the prepared food goes. Chris is a capable and excellent chef. They offer deli sandwiches and prepared foods like grilled salmon, grilled shrimp, beef tenderloin, crab cakes, personal-sized meat loaves, asparagus, potatoes, quiches, salads, etc. They offer 3 different homemade soups each day and they are always excellent. I had the split pea and ham soup today and I always check to see when they will be making it again. They also do amazing party trays. I love their sauces and Zapp's potato chips. It stays pretty busy all day long but noonish is usually when you may not find a seat. Take out is great too. They even offer prepared dinners that you can pick up on your way home from work. They are known for their Pimento Cheese and they sell a lot of it. It has been imitated but never duplicated. Many of the recipes are from the owner's mother and they were passed down for generations. Nice place. In summary it is a unique experience for lunch and the retail shop is fantastic. Most everything is unique and hard to find. To be fair, I need to mention the downside. The only drawback is the price. It is quite expensive relatively speaking especially when anything warm has to be microwaved except for the soup.. Otherwise I have no complaints. read more

These people are so incredibly rude I was SHOCKED. Sandwiches are delicious but served with a large side of attitude.

This is a great little deli with lots of specialty items (salsas, dip mixes, salad dressings, etc.) as well as some fabulous pimento cheese, chicken salad, and other deli items you can get to go. I have not visited the restaurant, but perhaps after Covid I will have an opportunity to do that. Until then, I will plan to make this a stop for great deli items to enjoy at home. read more

Have to write that this place was very accommodating to how I wanted to order and have it picked up. So I put in an order for two croissant sandwiches with chicken salad and a side of chips over the phone. I then requested if I could curb side it and have her bring the food to my car. All Maya (I think that was her name) stated was to call me when I got there. I did just that and I was able to get my order, give my credit card to pay and was back on my way to work within 20 minutes. The only downside to this place, I have to state, is that it is really expensive. It's been a while since I've been to The Mouse Trap and my experience today reminded me why. The woman behind the counter was extremely rude. She seemed put-off by my questions. She was so rude that at first I thought she was just joking, but no, she was just genuinely that rude. As I left I remembered back to my previous experiences there and recalled that they too had been poor ones due to the attitude of the staff. There are other places in town to purchase good cheese. Such a quaint little spot! I love the selection of cheeses and country ham for charcuterie trays. The Mousetrap is the cutest little lunch spot and tiny grocery for special items like cheeses, pasta sauces and noodles, jelly, prepared food. You walk into the store but it's 3 rooms, the grocery, the restaurant, and the cute/neat kitchen items. Perfect for entertaining, they have all kinds of napkins with cute designs. I love coming here for the fresh cheese. They always have five or so good options to pick from, and the cheese is sooo much more fresh that the pre-sliced versions found in the grocery stores. The little girls behind the counter are so rude that I can only describe them as "pissy". They would do well to remember that they are assembling sandwiches - not rockets. I used to have a sandwich there every Saturday after piano lessons. That was 37 years ago. Not only has service suffered terribly over the years, the sandwiches have gone downhill as well. The Mousetrap is a great local place to grab lunch-it is about as close to a restaurant that a non-restaurant can get. I say that in that the majority of the store is specialty foods/sweets/sauces/gobs of kitchen ware-but the real passion seems to be behind their deli case. They have the normal deli fare-sandwiches on assorted breads, cheeses, LT and the house sauce; but what is a bit different is the different salads, pastas, and other lunchy items that are available. Personally, I highly recommend their brussels sprouts when they are in season-they relaunched my brussels renaissance-and their salmon pinwheels-smoked salmon (of highest quality), cream cheese, onions, capers. Oh and by the way, they have the best iced tea (unsweet) in town. It can be a little bit pricey-but really, considering the other things in the area-especially the deplorable Drake's-you can't really go wrong for the quality-expect to spend around $10, however. All of the people working are very helpful and generous, especially considering that it can get quite hectic in there depending on what time of day you go. I had no idea this place was even there but omg am I glad I found it lol!!! The manager happen to come into my dry cleaner to drop off some stuff and she told me what it was and the type of foods they have so I told her I would definitely come up there for lunch that day. Well not 10 minutes later she came back in my store with a cup of lobster bisque and some pimento cheese that was absolutely life-changing lol!!! After eating those two within seconds lol I actually turned all the lights off in my store and lock the doors in the middle of the day and walk down and ended up getting a chicken salad sandwich on sourdough bread with lettuce and tomato. They had chips as well but I don't like kettle cooked chips so I just went next-door and got a bag of Doritos LOL. I have to admit the price was kind of up there, like almost 8 dollars for just the sandwich, but I will also say the sandwich was HUGEEEE!!! Like no joke it was huge... so the size kind of calm me down after seeing the price LOL but the minute I got back to my store and tasted the sandwich OMG I came to the conclusion that price was well worth it LOL.
