Table for 2 for Lunch We were shopping in the area and did a quick Internet search for lunch and found Wheelhouse Craft Pub and Kitchen. We had been in this part of Decatur many times and I never heard of it. We took the quick 5 minute ride over and I realized we had passed it many times. I think it had a different name last I noticed. As we approached I noticed the nice sized parking lot. A quick estimate, it could hold about 40 - 50 cars. I quickly found an open spot and walked over to the entrance. We entered and I could see the host walking toward us. He greeted us warmly, we let him know we were a party of 2 and preferred to sit outside. He informed us we could head out there and pick our own seat. We walked through the dark interior and headed outside using the side door. We found a table at the end of the patio near the front of the restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of outside seating on their patio and many of the tables were covered or had an umbrella.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was a little cooler than I expected so I ran back over to the car to pick up my jacket. I returned to the table and our friendly server came by and asked if we were ready to order. We were happy to see they had an extensive beer menu and I chose the Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA from Hi-Wire brewing and Wifey ordered the Harp Lager. For food, we kept it simple and decided to share the Pork Nachos appetizer. Our waters came out next, and then the beers came out soon after. As we were hanging around and enjoying the patio I noticed the place was very dog friendly. The Pork Nachos arrived and were excellent. It was not a huge portion, but the perfect size for what we were looking for. The chips were crispy and the pulled pork was seasoned well. All the ingredients worked well together. To be honest, the food here didn't give me instantaneous wow vibes since pub-style food isn't really that inventive or creative enough to amaze me. Poutine: I've had poutine at various places now, and I must say this place had the best version. There was the right amount of cheese curds and gravy. The fries were the perfect crispy texture. And because the gravy was the right amount, the fries stayed crispy versus become soggy. There was plenty of the Guinness braised beef so it was a nice ratio of protein and carb. There's definitely a ton of meat for this pick so it's a pretty good deal. Nashville chicken with and addition of pimento cheese: Surprisingly, the the sandwich wasn't really spicy at all. There was a slight kick, but that was about it. If you're hesitant about ordering this because you're afraid of the spice level, it's really more like mild on the spicy scale. I'm not one to eat much spicy food, and it was fine to my palette. The hubs thought Nashville chicken would be really spicy, but it's really not so. Go ahead. Order it. :) The addition of the pimento cheese was so heavenly delicious. It made the sandwich more progressively messy to consume, but it was so much more hardy and scrumptious! If you love cheese, take the leap! Crispy brussels: These were pretty tasty and actually crispy. Getting brussel sprouts crispy on the exterior and cooked well for the interior is actually a hard balance to achieve. I had zero expectations coming here and left feeling like I found a diamond in the rough. I've been here 3 times now and have settled on the fish and chips, along with the Weihenstephaner Hefe on draft. The fish has flaked perfectly every time! The crispy cauliflower bites are also very good! It's not an overpriced place and menu options are a step above typical bar food. Today, a female manager bartender humiliated my husband and myself without any provocation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were alone on the patio with our rescued 20lb puppy who has been abused but is not aggressive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was nervous and barked when the wait staff approached which is uncharacteristic and we were about to leave on our own when this manager, very unkind and mean spirited kicked us out. We didn't have any qualms with leaving but how she did it, humiliating us was uncalled for. She was unkind, unsympathetic and rude. If you have a child, a pet, are an ally, or simply a decent person who cares about how people treat others, I would not recommend going to this restaurant. I am sure that if you work in this establishment you know exactly the manager I speak of because if she treated us this way, I am sure she has a reputation for being unkind. This place was GOOD!! Came in after a long day and it was so nice to come in and try this place while in town. Parking is limited and tight. The seating is all FCFS and open to choose yourself. When we arrived we got the last booth. Lost 1 star due to service but food was fantastic. We shared a few apps and each got a bowl of the leek soup. The cauliflower bites were absolutely delicious and my fav!! I think they would be better with ranch for dipping rather than the sweet chili sauce it comes with. Service was lacking. Mark and I came here for the first time because he was craving fish and chips and he found the recommendations on Yelp. Our visit was awesome and we still can't believe that we have never dined here before and it's just 15 minutes from our house. Service was friendly and the food was delicious. The dining area is spacious and clean and it reminded us of pubs that we visited on vacation in the UK. The craft cocktails were delicious and we enjoyed multiple rounds. The fish and chips were hot and crispy and satisfying. My grouper sandwich was blackened and had a delicious spicy flavor. The Macken Cheese Balls were scrumptious and I could have eaten double the order. The evening we dined was a theme night for bingo/trivia and it was fun! During my bi-weekly visit to Atlanta I wanted to pickup lunch before my 2-hour drive back home and discovered Wheelhouse Craft Pub and Kitchen thanks to Yelp. I made a to go order online, the website was user-friendly and easy to navigate. Regardless of your dietary needs there is something on the menu for carnivores, pescatarians and vegetarians. The selection of food was what you would expect from a pub like fish and chips, burgers, wings, sandwiches and some unusual suspects like crispy cauliflower bites and their house Bean Burger. It was hard to decide on what to order but I settled on fish tacos with a side of Brussel Sprouts. Finding the restaurant was a bit of a challenge, I drove past it the first time and had to loop back around. The sign for the restaurant was faded and their tiny parking lot has a small entrance. When I finally made my way into the quaint parking lot thankfully there were spots available it was 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and they were filling up fast. When I walked in the restaurant to grab my order, the restaurant was cozy and casual. The hostess was friendly and handed me my food shortly after arriving. If I had more time I would have definitely dined in and watched a game. Their patio is dog friendly which is always a plus for us dog lovers on nice days. This is the third time we've eaten here, and the third time that our food was outstanding. I have a special note for this trip, I ordered the housemade potato chips to go along with my Gruper sandwich and all I can say is wow! I am not normally a potato chip guy. I don't buy them. I don't sit on the couch and finish an entire bag while watching something on television. But I have found a chip here at the Wheelhouse that is worthy of eating at least a whole small bag for me. Decided to stop in after my friend was craving chicken tenders specifically. Originally she was craving some chicken tenders that she loved from a now closed business so I had to find her a great alternative to satisfy. After a Yelp search and Google run through, i found this and although she was hesitant, I just had that funny feeling I found a gem & indeed I did! It was a stormy night as we are expecting a hurricane and an hour before closing and we still received some of the most patient, attentive, and quick service! The bathrooms are super clean and I could see that they have an outside area which would be nice to sit if weather is nice. We ordered a couple things off the menu and nothing disappointed. Ratings below: Gin Blossom Cocktail: 7/10 (super strong which I loved, but slightly lighter elderflower flavor than I was anticipating) Strawberry Basil Lemonade: 8/10 (really tasty and you could tell it was infused with Basil versus just adding basil for aromatics Chicken Tenders & Fries: 10/10 (so fresh and hot, sauces house made but beware 0.75 charge for all additional sauces) Fish: 10/10 (Great portion, seasoned lightly which is perfect for building flavor with malt vinegar and tartar) Crispy Brussels: 7/10 (10/10 for the cook on them but they lacked a little flavor. Tasted like a light oil & salt taste, but texture made up for it) Loaded Potato: 10/10 (she was loaded, cooked well, and a great price for the size) All in all, we can't wait to go back and try more. Despite it being so close to closing, our server made sure to let us know we were not being rushed out. First off- if you have a special that is out of line with the pricing of your other entrees, I think it's appropriate to mention the price when pitching it to customers. Entrees here are in the $14-$17 range mostly, which is fair pricing. This special was a surprise $23 when the bill arrived - and it was just 3 sausage links and some subpar mashed potatoes. Way overpriced for this version of "Bangers and mash." The sausages were overcooked and the mashed potatoes were a bit grainy, not creamy or fluffy or buttery or any of the things mashed potatoes should be. They were just sort of thin and not great. My friend said they tasted like instant. I did find an enormous chunk of potato in them, which seemed like an oversight since they were not the "smashed" potatoes style. They were otherwise smooth except for a very large potato chunk. Not a huge deal but just an example of the food being off. If you are hungry this is a good stop. After you eat the fully loaded bake potato you will have to go home and take a nap. The fish and chips are always good and a mainstay it's a good portion size . The Guinness stew is perfect this time of year. What's nice is they also have a couple of shareable items when you are meeting friends and not eating a full dinner. I get the Brussel sprouts and their fries are really good. The service is good enough for 15% minimum tip they work hard and are attentive. They do have free parking it's limited but we never had an issue. read more
