Perfect, they are closed on tuesdays , but was when i needed to ride the Gordie Howe Bridge. I picked up the bike on monday, locked to their bike rack. This is a review for a rental and repair, not a tour. I was biking with friends on the Riverfront when one of them got a flat. We thought going to Wheelhouse to rent a bike or get the tire repaired seemed like a good idea. We showed up just as they were opening at 11am. The employees pull out the rental bikes and lock them up as part of their opening routine. My friend and I were waiting off to the side when the employee came over and said we were in their spot for their bikes. Ok, so we moved to a different location, she came over and said you're still in our spot. Ok, we moved further away, only to have her come over and tell us to move again. I get they have spots to put the bikes, but after the 2nd time, couldn't she have just pointed out a place for us to wait instead of telling us to move yet again? It was pretty irritating. So they open at 11, but apparently they cannot help you until they've pulled out all their inventory and locked it up outside the shop. We asked about a rental and she just kept saying - I'm busy - I can't help you until I'm done here. We asked well how long are you going to be? She didn't know, but just kept saying I'll get to you when I'm done. We said - well what about getting the tire fixed - how long do you think that might take? Same answer. Don't bug me, I'm busy pulling all the bikes out, and I don't know. Wow. What a crazy process. You show up when they open - but then stand around for 25 minutes while they prep the shop. Maybe do that before your opening time so you can actually HELP a customer when they show up at opening time. Finally, they were done and my friend asked about renting a bike and they showed her the options. She picked one and they got her set up. She was irritated because she's a seasoned biker and they treated her like an idiot. Again, some basic communication with her would have let them know she knew how to bike and that would have helped with set up. Finally, they agreed to fix her flat while we were gone. When we returned her flat was fixed, we returned the rental and were on our way. We were all really frustrated at the poor customer service and kept laughing about how poorly they handled the situation and the long wait just to get waited on. The bike was fine and the flat was fixed, thus the 2 stars. read more

Because the experience was exactly what we were looking for. --- --- --- My friend and I have a tradition where we go to a Cleveland Browns road game every year, and because he's a big cyclist, we always rent bikes and do a ride somewhere in that city. This year, we opted for Detroit, and after some research, decided to ride at Belle Isle. Perfectly situated in between our hotel and Belle Isle: Wheelhouse Detroit. We put in our reservation online, showed up, had our bike within 5 minutes, and drop-off was just as easy. The bike was solid too. After years of wanting to, my girlfriend and I finally participated in a Wheelhouse Detroit tour this past weekend. It was positively stellar. We did the Auto Heritage Tour. The guide was eminently knowledgeable. We learned SO much about the city through the lens of its auto industry history, and we saw places we never would have otherwise. He and the sweep also did an excellent job of navigating the route, managing the group, and ensuring that it was a terrific experience for everyone involved. I cannot wait to do another tour. We had a great day in the city seeing everything by bike. We got about 25 miles in by the end of the day. Wheelhouse bikes were great - rental came with helmet and a lock. Riverwalk connects to Belle Isle, from there you can ride up to Heidelberg Art Project, over the Eastern Market, the Dequinder cut, etc. Super fun. read more

We did the Corktown tour with Kelli and Tatiana. Kelli was incredibly knowledgeable about the area. Tatiana was our "Sweeper" in case we needed anything, and during the trip fixed someone's tire in mere minutes! As an added bonus, the ride included a fair amount of the Riverwalk to get to Corktown. I have had the pleasure of going on two different tours with Wheelhouse through my company. We were easily outfitted with bikes and helmets and the group was outfitted with a lead guide and a chase. They made us feel safe and then also provided us with history at each stop which only reinvigorates my love for the city. They have a large selection of bicycles and are super friendly. I rented a tandem bike for two days with my fiancé for our weekend visit to Detroit. It was super fun to bike around together and see the sights. The employees at Wheelhouse were super nice and let us pick up the bike even though we showed up 3 minutes before closing time. Our favorite place we rode was Belle Isle where we did the whole perimeter of the island. Awesome way to see the city while taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Highly recommend Wheelhouse, but please be warned, make sure you have a solid relationship with whoever you get on that tandem bike with - it is a true test! read more

We had a great time. Staff was friendly and provided us with helmets, locks, and our bikes for the day. The check in process was easy - we did the waivers online (super easy) and we got our bikes within two mins of being there. The bikes were great and didn't have any issues. I think we traveled a total of 10 miles or more. We went to belle Island and traveled all around the island. The area we were in had great bike lanes. Highly recommend using this company for bikes. Staff wore masks. Only issue was parking- it was a warm day and the parking area for the river walk was full and the pay garages were closed (was a Sunday). I learned about their tours this summer. I did enjoy the tour. Unfortunately, the next day I had a breakout on my face/chin where the helmet was strapped. I did email them twice and let know about the breakout on my face and they need to clean the straps after each rental. My name emails were not acknowledged. If you do go on a tour, please make sure you take an alcohol wipe to clean the helmet straps yourself. read more

I received a gift certificate to Wheelhouse for my birthday. I was excited and perused all the choices of tours. I finally decided to go on the Churches of Poletown. It was so informative and illuminating! The ride was perfect and ended at the Sweetest Heart of Mary's Pierogi festival. They would not even entertain transferring my payment to a future tour giving a pat BS answer of having to pre-arrange the guide for the tour that already had 8 participants and was not likely to sell out because I booked the tour 2 days before the tour. Wheelhouse Detroit is such an amazing little slice of Detroit. I love to support small businesses too. I was looking for a mom-and-son day with my teenager and needed something fun and different. This was perfect. We had such a fun afternoon with Kelli! She is super knowledgeable and you can tell has a love for Detroit. So much fun! I brought a group down to Wheelhouse and we cleaned em out of bikes to rent! Twenty-eight in all, we had just about every bike they had - including the coveted tandems. Scheduling was super-easy and the staff was really helpful about routes we might want to take. I did make arrangements in advance (to assure they had enough bikes). A $50 deposit was required to reserve. When we got there, everything was set and ready for us - and distributing the bikes was easy (and fun). We ended up with a pretty simple ride (very crappy weather), but it was great for us - we headed east to the Dequindre Cut and up to Eastern Market. We spent time checking out the art in the Cut, we made a stop in Rocky peanut, rode around Eastern Market a bit and headed back. In total, it was only $10/bike and included the helmet for what could have been up to 2 hours of riding. I would HIGHLY recommend this for just about anybody - families, a first date, somethng to do with out-of-town guests, you name it. It's as simple as riding a bike. read more

Wheelhouse Detroit is like a little slice of heaven! Located on Detroit's beautiful Riverwalk, Wheelhouse Detroit brings a type of fun that Downtown Detroit was lacking. Getting around downtown can be a bit of a mess at times, even by walking, by being able to explore this beautiful city via bicycle is something that I love. Sure, I could always throw my bike in my car and head downtown to do the same thing, but Wheelhouse Detroit makes spending the extra money worth it. I've been coming to Wheelhouse with friends and family for a few years now. The customer service is always superb and the bikes are high quality. Prices are quite reasonable as well. For $15, you can rent a cruiser for 2 hours. For a half day, it's $25. The Kona Africa Bike is a perfect combination of simple and smooth. A great cruiser for those new to the city with a love for adventure. I love that Wheelhouse gives you the option of giving you a lock for your bike in case you wanted to stop around for ice cream or food in the area. Not only does Wheelhouse Detroit allow you the option to rent bikes, they also sell Detroit made bikes, offer tours, and service bikes as well. A great touch is when they give you their card when renting and always offer to help you with a flat or any other problem that arises. I told you their customer service was great! This place is a sham of a business! The repair techs don't have a brain when it comes to fixing anything. First I had my back tire fixed for a flat and the tech suggested I get a new tire! The next day on my ride the chain breaks. I get a flat on the front tire and they fix it again! After at 2 mile ride the front goes flat again! So I take the tire up to the shop to see what went wrong on with the repair and the tech state oh you've got another flat! Sorry but no my tire should not go flat on at 2 mile bike ride with all brand new tires and tubes! I would suggest going to see Shane at Metropolis bikes! He knows good customer service and took care of me and gets me out very quick! AGAIN GO TO METROPOLIS THEY ARE KIND! read more

Fun! We got there just as they opened and they had us on a couple of cruisers in no time. We were able to bike to Belle Isle and back in the two hour time allotted. There are a few hills so you may want to rent a bike with gears. Get directions or a map as the river walk doesnt connect directly to Belle Isle. There are a few blocks on the main street to navagate but all the bikers just stayed on the sidewalk. Good news...on a bike you don't have to pay to go to Belle Isle ! read more

Great place to rent a bike. My friend and I rented bicycles for a 5-day visit. One bike had a brake problem that required an adjustment. We called the Hamtramck location (the waterfront location was closed on a fall weekday). The service technician came to us (we were 4 miles away at a bakery). Very impressive! read more
