Costs: If you are upgrading your home network or other capability, and need to buy new/more gear, Shawn doesn't charge a markup on the equipment. In fact, once he's designed your solution he will provide you with links to the exact products required and let you buy them directly from the vendors if desired. Or he'll buy them himself and present you with the receipts. Hourly rate: With the skills Shawn possesses, his hourly rate is substantial. And it should be. However, you can still bring your project in at a very reasonable cost PROVIDED you can be a smart customer. By this I mean you must be clear on the capabilities you want to achieve--or at least be able to listen to Shawn describe what's possible and then make rapid decisions. If instead you want a lot of customer education, Shawn can do that too because he knows an immense amount about IT and can communicate effectively. However, it's a bit like paying for a neurosurgeon to teach you about the types of aspirin available to treat a headache. That doesn't make sense; get a nurse instead! In my case, my wife and I work from the house. My goals were to increase the reliability of our home network. We wanted better maintainability (so when the internet goes down I can rapidly identify the problem and fix it). We wanted better network security. I wanted to add a home security camera because of problems with car prowls, etc. And finally, I wanted to move our networking gear out of our super-hot furnace room to a cooler and cleaner location. This was a lot. Other vendors had previously failed to come up with an affordable solution--or any solution at all. Shawn showed us how to do it for a very reasonable sum. Once we had a plan, I was able to control costs by getting a carpenter friend to open up the wall and pull wires through to the new location for the gear. Shawn also kept costs down by allowing me to provide extra hands as he mounted gear on the wall, connected all of our wireless access points to the new console, etc. These steps all require two people. Shawn was willing to let me help and he even maintained a high level of wit and good-natured ribbing throoughout the long day of work. In sum: great outcome, great satisfaction, great price. Photo: New network system including: cable modem; device handling routing, security, network management, and recording of camera images; 24-port switch; and backup power supply.

They were well prepared so that we had no down time for patient care. All software and hardware were updated and coordinated. we are truly grateful for their professionalism, efficiency and care. Sean has my highest recommendation without reservation!

I've been a customer for almost six years with reliable internet and local phone services. This is…read morea small company, but it is very community-minded provides some amazing services. Anyone who posted previously that the services is bad or expensive is comparing apples to oranges. It is most likely are privileged to own a vacation home or retired here, not year-round residents. They are used to instant and accessible services on the mainland. Sorry folks, but if being on island time is such an inconvenience, then go home. Many others who complain about bad service, is likely at Wifire Coffee, which is NOT the same as WhidbeyTel. This is housed in the customer service building. Honestly, at the coffee house isn't great, I'm not sure why, because as a internet and telephone company they are awesome. Anyway, I've always gotten through to an operator or tech person, it might take a bit if they are dealing with repairs or other service issues that ALL companies experience. However, they have been available 24/7 for years, and I always get through. Talking to a live person is great, my provided services has been great. The only disruptions I had are when the electricity was out, however, my landline still worked. Whidbeytel buries all their service lines, which prevents disruption during wind storms. When a line does go haywire, it might take a few days to locate, troubleshoot, and fix, but the company always does a fantastic job. They even fix any landscaping that they had to dig into. For a local service provider, you really cannot do better than WhidbeyTel.

I had been a customer of Whidbey Telecom for 6 years. I was getting terrible del speeds for…read moreinsanely expensive cost. I inquired about fiber and I would have had to pay 2k just for the hookup. I finally switched to Xfinity for 10 times the speed and half of the cost and a much more reliable product. I go on Whidbey Telecoms portal which I have to verify its me with a password, follow the instructions and cancel my service. You would think that would be a basic task to end a mtm agreement. They say they thought maybe it was not really me and called to verify but they dont have id on their number so it shows as spam and if they called I never heard from them. I was billed over 2 months of additional service with no other explanation. I talked with multiple agents and they argued with me about how I didnt read the "small print" This is the kicker. Not once in all the time that I talked with a rep from Whidbey Telecom did anyone try to retain me as a customer. No questions about what could they do to improve. It costs a company so much more to aquifer new customers as it does to retain current customers. I would have stayed if they would have credited me the amount that they charged me after I quit and worked with me on getting fiber. Just a terrible disregard of customer service. While on the last call with the manager she disconnected the call and I never heard back. I have been calling for two weeks and am #1 in the Q and they won't answer my calls. I will make sure to tell everyone I know to leave this company before they rip you and charge you for services that were not provided

I was underwhelmed to say the least…read more I was referred to this company by Comcast when setting up my phone system for my business. I had to call numerous times to get someone to come out and do a quote for my project. Once they did come out it took two weeks for them to get back to me with a quote. Things just kept going downhill. One the day of the install the tech was 5 hours late. the company gave me a window in the morning of when they would be there and kept pushing the appointment later and later in the day. When the tech showed up we went over what was to be done and he told me it was a simple job and he wold finish up that day. Needless to say the job was not finished that day and the tech had to come back the next day (only an hour and a half late this time). When he finally finished we went over how everything worked and it turns out the tech had not integrated the system in the way we discussed at all. We had gone over what was to be done twice before. The final straw was that even though there were no changes to my order at all or any complications during the job, the final bill came in 30% higher than what was originally quoted to me. This company is terrible, they do not care about serving their customers, they only care about the paycheck

We discussed installation options whether I'd need cabling, etc. He was very knowledgeable and helpful! It turns out I didn't need a complicated phone system after all, so he was able to just sell me a two line model. I really felt like he was taking my business' needs to heart and wasn't interested in the quick sale. Highly recommended!
