People doing covers of old country songs, rock and pop. The only thing that needs to be fixed is that there's no paper towels in the bathrooms. Just an air dryer. The toilets also need to be disinfected or replaced with new ones because it looks old inside it. Overall, this is a good place if anyone wants to come here to listen to the music and try the homemade ciders they make.

You start out thinking it's just a farm market but inside, the place has all the usual farm market suspects--fresh produce, baked goods, meats--but then you notice the food counter. That's where things go sideways in the best possible way. The sandwiches are flat-out good, not "good for a farm store," but actually good. And the breakfast burritos are not normal human-sized food. They're the kind of burritos that make you reconsider your life choices halfway through eating one, in a positive way. Outside is where Messick's really shows off. Kids running everywhere, farm people doing what farm people do, and enough seasonal activities to keep families occupied until everyone forgets what time it is. It's the kind of place where parents sit down "for just a minute" and then suddenly it's an hour later and nobody is in a hurry to leave. If you're rolling in with a camper, it also works as a Harvest Hosts stop, which is a polite way of saying you can legally fall asleep there without anyone bothering you. Parking is easy in a grass-and-gravel area that's simple to level into, and once the day crowd clears out it gets quiet in that good country way. Verizon signal holds up well too, which is either a blessing or a curse depending on how hard you were trying to escape emails. What makes Messick's dangerous is that it's not trying to be anything other than what it is--but it ends up being more anyway. You go for a quick stop and leave feeling like you accidentally spent the afternoon at somebody's family reunion, except nobody made you help clean up afterward. In a world full of overcomplicated stops and underwhelming food, Messick's is refreshingly simple: good food, good people, and just enough chaos to make it interesting.

It's 15 dollars to get in and there is so much for the kids to do. Even my teenagers had fun just picking berries and going in the maze. The people working there were so freaking sweet I just am in love. They had a "limited menu" of food but it ranged from chicken salad sandwiches to mozzarella sticks or a hot dog, fries were super crispy and fresh, and it was more than enough to eat and enjoy the scenery. You could pick your own flowers, pick berries, zip line, petting zoo, it was just awesome . So fun.

The Gainesville Central Farm Market is located in the Virginia Gateway retail complex parking lot - next to the Virginia Gateway office building @ 7500 Iron Bar Lane. I visited for the first time the second Saturday of their run (May 9). I checked out all the vendors. There is a bit of everything: fresh produce (veggies, fruits, flowers, and plants), coffee, food vendors, meats, eggs, and a whole host of other stuff. I visited Bouvardia Coffee and ordered a small cold brew with Half n' Half. Pretty good cold brew! First time I've seen cold brew offered at a Farmers Market! I also visited Kingston Cafe and got some Jamaican food to go: a jerked pork and jerked chicken combo - which came with Plantains, dirty rice, and I believe they are curried vegetables. Having recently been to the farmers market in Stanton, I come back to Warrenton and am baffled by the repetition and lack of activity at the Warrenton Market. Maybe it is that there is no place to have one, but I am sure there must be somewhere bigger for the market to grow. How about a park or something? Shoot, I have a pasture they can set up in. So, maybe I am a little biased. I tired to get a spot to sell eggs and poultry and was told that they did not have any room for new vendors That they have a limit to number of booths. Competition is what makes the world work. Let a few more soap/bakedgood/mushroom/spice/livestock vendors, whatever, join in. Let it grow. Let some people making things in, that is what a free economy is all about. And what better place to showcase everything that your county/city/burg can do. Just my 2 cents.

The Saturday farmer's market is at Lee & 5th Streets in Old Town and is a nice place to stop and do your week's worth of veggie shopping. It's a small farmer's market, but there is always a selection of seasonal, locally grown fruits and veggies. In the spring you'll find plant farms offering veggie and flower seedlings, and nurseries are sometimes there with annuals and perennials for sale. There's generally vendors with fresh baked goods as well, and sometimes crafters. I usually hit this market on Saturday mornings and the Green Barn market in The Plains on Sundays.

The lady had the microgreens mixed with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. The taste was phenomenal. I have since bought all of the different versions and purchase them whenever I go to WF. The microgreens even taste good all by themselves. I have found myself noshing on them while putting away groceries. They are truly wonderful. Hard to believe they are so darn good for you.
