I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Alison and Dane at Whipkey's Music. I rented a flute from them as an adult beginner and took some lessons by FaceTime. Alison was patient and positive; she's a gifted teacher with an encouraging manner. So after a few months I decided I wanted to stick with the flute, in great part because my cat likes to listen. Alison spent quite a bit of time talking to the student, as well as the parent. I loved that she got the child involved - I think it helps to set the stage for the child to fall in love with her instrument. Wish there was a zero star option!!! This store is dirty, smelled terrible and had no instruments on display. The salesperson was rude and refused to show us any instruments without our daughter's teacher present. She wouldn't even tell us what brands they carried. We just got handed a flyer and she sent us on our way. Guess they are not smart enough to realize this type of unprofessionalism costed them the sale of a high end instrument. read more

I wish I didn't have to even give them one star. What a scam and rip-off! I returned my son's trombone rental and was charged $70 for a small dent (it accidentally fell and dented). When I initially rented the instrument I was encouraged to pay for the additional monthly insurance since trombones are fragile. I signed up for it. Yet this is not covered since it does not fall under regular wear and tear. It absolutely does. I will never do business with this store again. read more

We rented a very expensive Saxophone from Whipkey's for a year. When we decided to buy and got a great deal on consignment from another business we encountered the Whipkey Rudeness. The man at Whipkey's said we were rude for not even discussing purchasing options with him. He tried to find a problem with the rental sax we were returning, but fortunately we had documented every scratch and ding. So with that said, I should have known better than to visit them again. They are so convenient to Daniell Middle School that it made sense to check if they could do a minor repair. As soon as my husband mentioned the need for repair the man asked "Where did you get it? You should take it to the place you bought it and walked away." I have learned my lesson...Don't ever go to Whipkey's Music on Canton Hwy. They are rude beyond words. I can't understand how they can even be included on the list of vendors for any middle school in Cobb County. The absolute worst! read more

The store is filthy and hot and their assessed value of their own merchandise is entirely too high. Very hard to get answers to straight forward, simple questions. Let me start by explaining that generally, people with a passion in the arts aren't good sales people. Please invest in a sales person. Until then, we will not be back. To explain my statement I will share my experience with this store. We came in with my child's school/band supply list. The associate took the list and went back and forth getting the supplies, explaining what it was & how much it was until it got to the most expensive item; the mouth piece. She then began to ring it all up and when I saw the price I told her I wasn't expecting to pay that much money on that one item ($90) and after discussing it I told her to put that back and we would come back to get it if need be. She then got an attitude and said "let's just take back all the expensive items." And took away a $20 item, I laughed at her incompetence and said "okay?" To which she then said "well, what do you want to buy?" It should be obvious that I had only said to take back the one piece, I went ahead and told her to give me the $20 item back and bought the rest of the items on the counter and went to Ken Stanton and found the $90 item for $60 from a guy who seemed like an angel compared to the service at Whipkeys. read more

Horrible experience. The people are extremely rude. Insulted our band instructors direction and our child. Returned trumpet and they accused our child of dropping trumpet and said we had to pay $278.00 to return the trumpet. We had bought the insurance but they said it did not cover it. Therefore, do not buy the insurance and just have it under your home insurance. We had a bad experience when we rented it and almost did not get it-should have gone with our gut. We are now out $278, had to have our intelligence insulted by the sales associate and Mr. Whipkey. Will never come back here and please consider elsewhere so you do not have this experience. First class service. The technician did a great job repairing my flute. Very welcoming and acknowledgeable people.

We came to Whipkey's in the beginning of this school year after my daughter decided to join band at school. We originally went in to rent a clarinet, but after speaking to them, decided to purchase a used Buffet clarinet. It was an older instrument, but very good quality. They were very helpful and assured us that they would provide all maintenance during the school year as well as offer a buy-back policy if she decided not to continue playing. It was more than I wanted to spend at the time considering we had no idea if she'd even enjoy playing, but I figured it was a safe enough investment either way. Sure enough, this month my daughter informed us that she did not want to continue in band after all, and they did buy back at 50% of the purchase price, as promised (a great relief to us as, if we had purchased elsewhere, we would have either had an unused clarinet sitting at home or we would have had to try to sell it ourselves). We also did go in periodically for repairs (e.g., when pads came loose) and they were courteous and made the repairs with a quick turnaround time. With the buy-back policy, we ended up paying less than we would have by renting. We are very pleased, and would not hesitate to recommend to others. read more

This is a scam, take the time to find honest people to work with. We rented a violin for over 2 years. When we went to upgrade they said we had over $470 to spend and said a violin would cost us $350, which included our $470 credit.. So this violin was supposedly $820. I couldn't find the brand online so I couldn't research it. The fact that they were whispering to each other gave me pause. Long story short I found a violin with great reviews with everything I needed for $299. My daughters teacher said it was a good one. So I returned the violin the next week. When they found out that I purchased another violin now all of sudden the violin I was returning was damaged and I needed to pay to have it fixed. There was nothing but normal wear on the violin. We had some words and I ended up having to call the police just to force them to give me a receipt for my return. These are terrible evil people. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of them. read more
