It's a long story but my boo and I had a few Southwest Airlines tickets to blow, so we looked up places to visit that were far and tropical. That brought us to South Padre Island. I grew up in Houston, and have heard of people visiting SPI for fun in the sun, so I might as well check out what the hype was all about. Our vacation was overall pretty slow and we had plenty of time to kill before our flight home. My boo was begging me for a LOOOONG time to get a dog, and she kept mentioning it over and over again. After hearing about people's terrible experiences with super strict adoption organizations http://www.slate.com/articles/life/heavy_petting/2012/01/animal_rescue_want_to_adopt_a_dog_or_cat_prepare_for_an_inquisition_.html and our own negative experience at some super overzealous organizations in NYC, we figure maybe going to some small town would be easier. I suggested to her to find an animal shelter to go look at dogs for fun. I didn't think they'd have any cute puppies to adopt, but boy was I wrong. We arrived there, and they had a whole litter of German Shepherd pups, and also Jack Russell mix puppies. We were a bit cautious about handling the puppies at first, but the staff there were more than helpful in answering questions and even insisting on having us handling the dogs. I saw our future Cookie Dough there and he was super cute and sleeping. I don't know how many hoops I made my boo jump through, but I was trying my hardest to NOT adopt the little guy. Me: You PROMISE you'll take care of YOUR DOG? Her: Yes Me: You'll clean out his poop and take him out to pee when it's snowing out? Her: Yes * Me: You'll pay for all of his food and vet bills Her: Yes Me: A dog's such a huge responsibility, are you sure you can take care of him? Her: Yes I wanted to say no, but I saw how badly my boo wanted a dog. Now I know why parents give in to their kids. My back's against the wall, and I had to try another last ditch effort to dodge the bullet. Just maybe, I can make someone else be the bad guy. Aha! Maybe we can't bring him on the plane! Me: Call up Southwest and see if they'll allow a dog. Sometimes they might allow them, but if there's too many dogs on the flight, we can't bring the dog on. She calls Southwest up, and confirms that dogs under a certain size are allowed. Crap. Game over. Overall, adopting a pet from here could not have been more pleasant. The staff were super nice and friendly, and very glad to help us give our dog a home. No inquisition, no dirty looks, no judgement. For $100, you get the animal with his first round of shots, microchip, and also free neutering or spaying (if you're in the area). We couldn't get neutering because our pup was just 8 weeks old and you have to use their on-site vet, but they were willing to reimburse us for a partial amount for when we have it done. It is totally possible to get a cute dog and puppy from a shelter. Boycott the pet stores! *I think I take him out to do his business mostly now, but I don't mind.

I was guided thru the entire process and even had people not only rooting for me and my new fur baby but they helped me pick a name for her. I was also able to get her spayed that day so I could pick her up the next day. I was given a gift from Chewy (a Disney dog bed) and her first meds including heartworm free. So I choose another dog, donated $120 dollars, and brought the dog home. All my cats disappeared. I took him back the next day and once again looked at available dogs and low and behold there was the dog I asked for the day before, my first choice. So I asked to adopt him. And was denied. Then told I could foster him - then they changed their minds again and denied me the right to foster, supposedly because he has some 'food aggression disorder'. They have a jillion dogs. She often brings over her dog and other dogs that she is puppy sitting, so Bax even gets play time and socialization in. Brownsville, TX, 7/28/26: It is 11:29 a.m and currently in…read moreline to purchase crickets. There are 8 people ahead of me and I have been waiting for thirty minutes. We have two tarantulas and went on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in order to purchase 6 large crickets in order to feed them. I arrived at 2 pm and was told by one of the staff members that they had already sold out. They also had a "sold out" sign posted. They advised me to come back on Thursday or Friday later that week. I came back on Thursday, July 16, at approximately 1 pm and again was told that they were already sold out. I came again on Tuesday, July 21 at approximately 2 pm and was told that they were sold out and the "sold out" sign was posted, and was told to try again on Thursday or Friday. I was also told that you, Petsmart, was going to start to put limits on the crickets because some customers purchase up to 100 crickets at a time. I came again on Thursday, July 23rd and the "sold out" sign was posted and I asked a team member if they were sold out. She told me that they were and that some people line up for the crickets before they get delivered and they had sold out by noon! I went to speak to the manager, Patty, who was dismissive to my concern and said that the team member that advised me that there was going to be a limit on crickets was wrong and that you, Petsmart corporate office, gave a directive that NO crickets would be limited. I asked Patty why she can't order more or have customers "pre-order" for the crickets. She didn't respond to that. All she said was "we can't do that" after each suggestion. She did not seem like she cared about my concern. You are still selling reptiles and are the only vendor in Brownsville and Harlingen that sells crickets to feed our reptiles. Why can't you address this issue? You shouldn't be allowed to sell reptiles and should put a pause on getting more reptiles to sell until this issue is addressed. Your team member admitted that you don't have any crickets to them! You need to come up with a solution to be able to serve your customers. A limit would be a start. A pre-order requirement is an option, however, a customer in line stated that she has placed pre-orders and they've been cancelled without explanation. Staggering the sale of crickets throughout the day is another option. At approximately 12:10, a team member came to let us know that they didn't know if FedEx would be delivering any crickets today. I asked the team member to ask the manager come to address us so that we could all voice our concerns to her. The team member had told us that Dillon Freeman, the "District Leader", has ordered Petsmart to NOT put a limit on crickets. Patty came with a male team member and asked if we had questions about the crickets and she saw me and recognized me. I offered her the same options as I had before or to take our names, phone numbers and quantity of crickets needed so that if/when they get the crickets, they call us and we can immediately come to purchase the crickets. All the customers in line spoke up and agreed with my sentiments. She finally agreed to have us write our names, phone numbers and number of crickets requested on a sheet a paper and stated that they'd call us when they came in. I called your customer service number and spoke with Lee in customer service. I made a verbal complaint with all the above information and she agrees that a limit needed to be put in place and that she would forward my complaint to corporate. I advised Lee that if Dillon Freeman, the District "Leader", wanted to call me or anyone from corporate wanted to call me, they were welcome to do so.
