Can I bring a bring a chair to the bar because it was 2 ppl in my party. And he YELLED (as if I asked 14 times) NO, you absolutely can not. . 2. I asked, (once I saw 2 seats available) can I take these? He YELLED AGAIN, NO, it's for my regulars.... ‍. Umm Okay. And the yelling was as if I had asked more than once. So I told the waitstaff.... The entire back wall are the different Whiskey flavors they offer. The bartenders are also super helpful when it comes to Whiskey. They can provide great recommendations on what your specific type of Whiskey works for you. The overall interior of Whiskey Down is quite large. There are 4 gaming tables that are pretty high roller with a minimum be of ($25-$100). Once we ordered our drinks, the seats were all open seating so we found a comfy seating area by the entrance. I tried the Macallan 12 yrs shot on the rocks. I'm not used to drinking anything straight up/on the rocks. This drink was quite strong! Better than being weak, I suppose. Lol. Stopped in here as my boyfriend is an avid whiskey drinker. I was super disappointed with the service here. There wasn't a lot of people in the lounge but our server wasn't friendly and wasn't attentive. We asked for a whiskey list and she stated she "didn't have one". She didn't offer to even name off the whiskeys they carried, interesting for a bar literally called whiskey down. We ordered the Jack Daniels tasting which she replied "don't have it". So let's start out with the good: - service (although the bartender was lacking whisky knowledge) - ambiance - seating Room for major improvement: - if your going to call yourself a Whiskey bar, MGM you better be stepping up your whisky game. The selection of whiskeys was lacking and kind of disappointing. In the midst of writing this review a musician arrived and the manager told us we needed to move (which was fine, No problem) but then the manager started making snide comments and has one of his employees throw our face masks away (not the blue cheap ones). I was completely blown away how they handled it and the manager keeping his distance to avoid resolving the issue. read more

After seeing the flights of whiskey on Yelp pictures, I was looking forward to trying out some different vintages and styles. Our first server was horrible. Our second server wasn't much better. The live music was superb and the bartenders were great. If you choose to visit this place, be sure to sit at the bar. The only reason we tried this place is because of the $100 food and beverage credit due to the AmEx gold deal with MGM, stay 2 days or more and get room upgrade, credit, and skip the checkin line. Our second server, Julie, was indifferent to most. I think it's due to only drinks and no food making the tickets low and therefore tips low too. Perhaps it's not worth it to these ladies to make a few bucks off of drinks only. It's a pocket of the south, including some questionable service for people of color. I witnessed a black woman being seated and having to wait 10-15 minutes to be served. Other groups were served first who arrived later. Just a thoughgt The poor service servers aside, this place is great. Oh yeah, if you look up the menu with the QR code on the table, it will proclaim a tiny menu of drinks. When you decide on a flight of wine, the server will exclaim that they have no wine flight and the whiskey flight doesn't come with any desserts. So the menu is a liar. The servers will try to guilt you into a drink they have and make you feel silly for ordering a drink they don't have. The one good drink on the menu is the "Whiskey in the Jar". Please reconsider coming to this place. And please give feedback on the service. The greeter and bartenders are fantastic. Cosmos and margaritas suck. Martinis are good. Rum and coke is something that is really hard to mess up. Talk to the bartenders in real terms and you will be pleased. I feel sorry for anyone just coming in here and getting served what is usual. Get a drink. Don't like it, get another. Don't like it complain to manager. If you are not proactive, this is not the place to go. read more

We spent the weekend in Vegas with friends and to see Morrissey in concert (more on that in a different post). Whiskey Down was where we met our friends for night caps our first night in town. I had an Old Fashioned which was very good! This post is really about the ambiance and the super friendly and engaging music entertainment, however. The guy - I don't know his name- was a one man band who played such a range of music that was diverse, fun, and surprising. We would give him a song, he'd beat box into a recording device and lay that over other beats and play his guitar and sing the song! Maybe others have seen this, but I was blown away. On top of that he played Depeche Mode and The Wknd!! The service was great as well and this place gives small 8oz in lieu of glasses of water which I thought was especially considerate of the pandemic. I did a little research and read the reviews and was excited to come try this place. My wife and I walked in and it was packed, a sign this place is probably good. We sat down at the bar for just under 10 min, and we did not get one greeting, not even an eye glance from the bartenders. We felt totally ignored. Very disappointed, so we left to go find another place to spend our money. I had budgeted up to $200 for some drinks for us, oh well. read more

This was the one bright spot of our stay at the MGM Grand. If you're a cigar smoker like I am, this is a GREAT spot. I was not super impressed with Whiskey Down. There were a few upsides, mainly the selection, but I was otherwise fairly disappointed with my experience. Here's why: 1) To begin, patrons can smoke in the lounge area. This is obviously because it's in a casino (and because it's in Nevada), but if you are like me and do not like smoke, you won't find any relief from it in here. 2) Other than the smoke, the lounge is pleasant enough, with big armchairs and couches and an old-school "library" vibe to it. However, the presence of blackjack tables and video poker machines sort of take away from this. Again, I understand this is Las Vegas, but if you are like me and don't gamble, or simply want to get away from the whole casino thing for a while, this is not the place to do it. 3) The drink selection is pretty good. They have a lot of whiskeys, ryes, and bourbons, in addition to a couple other types of alcohol. Prices, however, are very steep. I wouldn't mind that if the drinks were made well, but... 4) My Old Fashioned was not good at all. I'm pretty sure that they bartender simply dumped an (old) orange peel and cherry in the bottom of a glass, put in the whiskey, then filled the rest with watery ice (ie, lots of small pieces that melted) and some sort of simple syrup. I'm not even sure if there were bitters in it...it didn't taste like it. Yes, this is an Old Fashioned in the simplest of terms, but it tasted like the sort of cheap cocktail that you would get from a college bar on "$2 wells night," and certainly did not match the atmosphere/vibe that this place is trying to have. At $15+ for any type of cocktail, I expect my drink to be made the right way. Unless you prefer your drink in shot or "neat" form, I would not recommend this bar. There are better choices on the strip. read more

This review is from several months ago. The atmosphere at Whiskey Down was amazing. We stop here before a show. Bartender was friendly and drinks were good. However, the cocktail waitress should absolutely NOT be working in the service industry. She was confrontational with several people in our group when they went to the bar to order drinks. This turned into a "blown up" loud argument. We had no problems placing an order with a server, but she didn't come to our table until we already got our first round of drinks from the bar. As we left the bar, she waved and gave us the middle finger. I could not believe how unprofessional and have never encountered anything like it before. read more

My bartender asked me what bonded whisky was when queried on their selection and could not make an old fashioned if his life depended on it. My husband and I were very excited to have drinks at this place after we saw KA Cirque de Soleil. First of all it took a considerable amount of time for a bartender to take our order. When he did, we asked for a drink menu. He responded there is none and offered no recommendations. He basically threw our drinks at us and then shooed us to a small corner of the bar and told us we were taking up too much space for other customers to come towards the bar and order. Nevertheless, other people were in that same space/section when we walked in and they were not told to leave. I definitely felt unwelcome and discriminated against at this bar. We will not be back. Really great spot to relax I. Some co Gotta me club chairs and have a cigar and whiskey. It is next to the casino but I felt like I was out of the craziness. Relaxed and enjoying the good music my husband and I sat here for two hours. We were attended to and not rushed out or made to feel like we were taking up a table. The whiskey selection is good, even Japanese whiskeys. The price is higher than expected but it's in MGM and I'm not expecting cheap drinks. They do have drink specials during the week Monday-Friday so make sure you check those out. Overall, a great bar and great hangout in MGM. I came here with a party of 2 on Thursday June 3rd. We walked up to to the bar because we liked the name and look and seen a bunch of happy patrons. We walked up and started standing right in front of the bartender and 2 other workers who just stood there. We waited close to 5 minutes for the waiter, who was a dark skinned guy who's name started with a "t". He was watching the game instead of doing his job. I politely asked if they had tequila and he said "yeah". He was very rude and should be fired. I was excited to try the bar because I'm an avid whisky fan, instead I walked away because of the terrible service. Fire all theses people or retrain them. This guy was twice my age and had half the home training. I walked across the casino and walked to another bar who had better service. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

This is a really great spot for a night cap! This is usually where we end the night when we stay at the MGM Grand. SERVICE Lara, our server, was really nice and was knowledgeable and drinks. I say that because, even though they could not make the oatmeal cookie shot last night, she suggested a nuts and berries shot. How did she know I would like that? However, since I had one the night before, I decided to try one of their special drinks. DRINKS Lara surprised me with the Gin But Juicy. It was amazing, and I recommend going here for that drink. They also have a great selection of whiskey and scotch. They have Macallan 12+, so I'm happy. They also have some really old scotches, that go up to around $500 per drink. CLEANISH When we got there we swooped a table that the previous people were just leaving. On the chair next to me, there was some gross gunk. Other than that, everything was pretty clean. Glasses came out spotless and Lara cleared our table pretty much as soon as we sat down. Overall, the service and drinks are good, and I will come back for many more night caps. read more

If you're up big, you can order a shot or shots of the Parker's Heritage with your friends... be a baller and live a little. You'll love the crowd and service you'll receive. I did. What's even better, is when you're done, you can then go back to doing what you do best... getting back to all the action on the casino floor. There are several leather seats and couches to cozy up to with friends or business acquaintances. It has a refined, club feel to it. Dark wood and dimly lit, yet it has a great view of the casino as there are no walls facing the main floor. Service is very hospitable. It's open 24/7 Expect to pay premium prices. Smoking is allowed. It was very smoky the few times I was there. read more

This is a low key relaxing 24 hour whiskey bar right on the casino floor. They have their own selections of Four Roses, Woodford Reserve, and Jack Daniel's single barrel so they take their selections seriously. I tried one of their Woodford cocktails and had a seat on a very comfortable leather couch and relaxed. They have table games with crazy high minimums in here but I didn't see anyone playing them and one guy spent a few minutes awkwardly trying to flirt with the dealer. Conveniently located smack dab in the middle of MGM hotel this bar is just wonderful! While my husband enjoys the Whiskey drinks and trust me they have several to choose from - I enjoy the mixed drinks which for Vegas, they're generously poured and strong! Every square inch you look in this place there is a TV on with sports, news, etc. The décor and atmosphere is just so rustic and cozy. I just want to curl up in one of their comfy leather chairs and sip the night away. Some of their tables do have interactive games built in them which makes your experience even better! My friends and I are staying at the MGM Grand. I had been to the MonteCristo cigar bar at Caesar's. But since we were here we decided to try something different. Plus, house keeping wasn't able to service our room for unforeseen circumstances. They left us a $25 food and beverage credit. When my friends and I got to whiskey down we were approached by our cocktail waitress who seamed surprised when I asked for a menu or cocktail list. We were given a QR code to pull up the menu. On their menu there was a "Jack Daniel's Tasting" a house specialty cocktail called "whiskey in a jar". .I asked for that and was told they didn't have it. How do you not have your house speciality cocktail? That defeats the purpose of having a house specialty cocktail! So I asked for the "jack daniels flight". Her response was "rocks or neat". To which I said rocks. When the drinks came I only got a glass of jack daniels. Not what I ordered but ok. When I was a little over halfway through with my cigar, the waitress came up to us with the check. I handed her the F&B credit I had received earlier that day to which I was told I couldn't use. Which was disappointing. I was told we needed to tell her we had it before we ordered so that she could bill the house account. That wasn't listed anywhere on the form. Since we still had the credit we decided to get a second round. I ordered the jack tasting this time. The one that is on their menu and mentioned in multiple reviews. I was then told "we don't have that. You need to order from the menu". I pulled up the menu to show her that it's on the menu under tastings. She said "you need to pick on. You don't get all three" "why is it listed as a tasting then?" "I don't know" was her response. My bud went to the bar to ask someone else and was told that the menu was posted too early. Why would they do that???? While my bud was at the bar the waitress kept asking me what I wanted. I asked for a minute. She stood there and asked me what I wanted. To avoid more back and forth I ordered a Kentucky mule and my bud ordered another beer. Our first bill came out to $27 so we figured it'd be about the same since the only change was the jack on the rocks to a mule. The waitress came back and asked how I wanted my Kentucky mule made. Which I've never been asked before. I said with bourbon. She asked if I wanted ginger beer and lime too. Of course I do! I ordered a Kentucky mule. Not bourbon on the rocks. The waitress comes back 5 minutes later with only my mule saying "I used Bulieit rye in it". Ok, I asked for bourbon. But at least I got my cocktail. However, the beer never came. My bud tried to waive over our waitress again but she blew him off. On our 3rd attempt she finally came over and got his beer order. We asked to confirm that the beer was part of the 25 credit we had. She said no because we used the credit on the mule. She said she used good whiskey and it cost $20. Completely ignoring the left over $5. We tried to tell her we had an additional $5 of credit. Which she insisted we didn't. I told my buds to stop arguing. We'll just pay and get out. An incredibly disappointing experience. MGM Grand I thought was a nice hotel. Not the Bellagio. But not a Holiday Inn. It felt like the holiday inn this trip. read more

Stopped in while walking the strip and through hotels. We were looking for a resting place and he wanted to smoke a cigar. Perfect place to rest, have a drink, smoke a cigar, and people watch. We sat in comfy lounge chairs and ordered drinks before we realized we forgot a cigar cutter. Luckily the waitress had one for us to borrow. I asked for a kind of specific drink. I wanted a Manhattan with those little black cherries. She got it for me and even added a few extra cherries. It was delicious. We will be back before we leave town. read more
