I am very upset as I made at appointment for one of our adult boa imperators named Addy on February 3rd 2026 as she had a large mass stuck in her back end that she couldn't pass on her own. They told me she was dehydrated so they gave her IV fluids. They also did an x-ray on her to confirm what the mass was which it was stool that she was unable to pass on her own. They confirmed she had an infection and prescribed her an antibiotic injection called Ceftazidime to be given to Addy every other day. They wanted to do blood work on her however I couldn't afford that as that would have made the total $800 - $1,100 in addition to I don't see how that would have helped Addy as we already know she has an infection from the stuck stool. The total cost that day was $640. They told me if the antibiotic injections didn't work that they could do an Enema and flush out the stuck stool. At the time of the appointment they showed me how to give the injection to Addy on her side underneath the scales. They told me if I needed any help to come in anytime and they could help me give her the injection. They gave her the first injection for me. When I went to give her the second antibiotic injection I had a difficult time doing it properly as I am nine months pregnant so I called the vet clinic to ask if I could bring Addy in for help on giving her the injection. They told me the doctor had left early that day and to give the injection from top down if I needed to which is what they told me not to do during the time of Addy's appointment. Thankfully my husband was able to help me give Addy her antibiotic injections however I didn't think it was right what the vet did saying I could come in for help and then they refuse to let me come in and help give Addy her injection. The vet said they would call in a few days after the weekend and see how Addy is doing. My husband helped me to give Addy her antibiotic injections every other day. When the vet called for an update I let them know that a small amount of white stuff came out of her back end but that the mass was still there. When I asked how much the estimate would be for an Enema the vet told me they didn't want to do that for her until after she had all her antibiotic injections due to the risk of tearing which they didn't mention that to me during Addy's appointment. My husband and I were giving Addy the antibiotic injections every other day like instructed. We went to give Addy her injection last Thursday evening on February 19th 2026 only to find that Addy had passed away. I am very upset and distraught about Addy passing as she was such a kind and sweet boa. I feel like the vet should have done something more for her sooner instead of just relying on the antibiotic injections. I am also upset they didn't allow me to come back in for help giving Addy the injections. I am writing this review to share my experience as this has been very hard on myself and I highly recommend not going to Whispering Pines Vet Clinic if you have an exotic or any type of reptile. I cannot speak on their services for dogs and cats, however I don't think they are capable of treating exotics and reptiles properly. The total vet cost for Addy was $640 only for her to end up passing away. I also noticed when I first walked into the clinic that they have two ball pythons in a small glass tank together with a red light for heating. One of the ball pythons had bad stuck shed on it. The two ball pythons apparently live at the clinic like that in those conditions. I told myself if they can't properly care for their own snakes how could they possibly help Addy our Boa? I almost walked out right then and there but being I am heavily pregnant it's hard for me to drive and this was the closest vet clinic to us that sees exotics. I now know that I should have walked out and gone to a different exotic vet as maybe if I did that Addy would still be alive and could have gotten the help she needed. read more

I walk in into the office and for 10 minutes nobody came out to show up to even greet or even check on us, we went to this place because we had a question regarding vaccines for our pets, we can clearly hear them in the back, talking out loud, yet nobody came out of the door or even to peak to see if there's anyone there! As a 21 year old, I have never had to go to a vet clinic on my own - that was up until a few months ago, when my guinea pig began having health complications. I had to do some searching to find a small/exotic pet vet that would see him and landed on Whispering Pines Pet Clinic. From his first appointment, my partner and I knew my guinea pig was in good hands. Everybody at the clinic loved Mellow and were incredibly kind each time we came in. The receptionist, Rischelle--the person who we spoke to the most throughout this process--was a huge help in figuring out the next steps we should take with our guinea pig. I truly can't thank Rischelle enough for her guidance and genuine care. The vet assistants, Dannika and Jenny, were also great with Mellow and helped trim his nails. On June 29th, I made the hard decision to bring Mellow in to be euthanized. My partner and I were both very emotional during the visit, and Rischelle, Dannika, and Jenny were all a shoulder for us to cry on. I only felt support and sympathy from everyone there - no judgement whatsoever. Some weeks later, I received a beautiful card in the mail. Upon opening it, two little pieces of paper with my guinea pig's footprints fell out of the card. The card also included heartfelt messages from each person at the clinic that had been involved in Mellow's care. I was so touched to receive something so special and sentimental, especially considering that I had no idea I would be receiving a card. I feel so lucky to have found such an amazing vet in which each of the employees truly cares about the wellbeing of the pets as well as their owners. I cannot overstate the fantastic care Whispering Pines Pet Clinic provided my partner and I as we navigated the loss of our first pet. I went to take my two kittens in for their first visit. $60 just to look at them.. then after they were in there over an hour, I get a nice, extensive call from the doctor. Then another 30 minutes later I receive a call to discuss prices. I'm told then no vaccinations or anything had been given yet and it's $200 for the visit. The woman on the phone told me all vets in the area will charge the same, not true at all. This is my first time leaving a review, because I'm genuinely upset by how these people handle their business. They also claim to have a special discount package for healthy kittens, including vaccinations, neutering, etc costing a grand total of $900. Would never have gone if I knew how much they'd overcharge. Everyone I spoke with was very nice, just know how much you'll spend before you let your cats sit in there two hours. read more

I had an excellent experience at Whispering Pines Pet Clinic. Every staff member was patient, attentive and had very good feedback specific to our situation. During my visit, a client brought in her ailing pet, who sadly required euthanasia. The staff were incredibly empathetic and supportive. The staff members are experienced, personable and love all pets. Dr. Weber has extensive knowledge and uses the latest technology. Rich Gingerly is also very knowledgeable and works well with all types of animals. He has offered to administer medicine, at no charge, to my pets. My 5 year old cat just had major surgery, Dr. Weber diagnosed the problem and quickly resolved the issue. Both Dr. Weber and Rich took the time to explain the issues and their recommendations. New to area visited whispering pines with my 17 yr old very sick dog. He was taken in the back never saw my dog until check out. Asked why I could not be with my dog they said they only have one examination room. Asked where he was, they said they had him in a cage. Then I was asked what is my budget before we treat him. We were recommended to Whispering Pines because my dog has some aggression issues. Rich is an animal behaviorist and truly loves to help animals. He was extremely generous with his time and his fees are more than reasonable. He gave us numerous suggestions and very specific exercises to work with my little dog, to show him we are the boss and how he must take his cues from us. I found Rich extremely knowledgable and made a very stressful situation manageable. We are at the beginning of our exercises, but have already experienced noticeable improvements! I asked him to help me with another one of my dogs behavior who has physical ailments (very complicated disease). He told me he couldn't take my money, because my dogs behavior is driven by his disease and Rich's training methods probably wouldn't work. Not only is he passionate about his work, he is very honest also! Honestly, I can't say enough about how great he is. While the people are very nice, after changing vets because we wanted to take the dog off people insulin($130.00 for less than a month) and get her on dog insulin($25.00 for less than a month) they informed us it would be if everything went well with the change over, it would cost us an additional $500.00 more for testing. We had already paid almost $2000.00 to diagnose and get her insulin adjusted. After visiting the new vet their price for the exact same tests is less than half on one, and a third less on the panel that reads her blood for a couple of weeks. The worst and the weirdest vet visit of my life. My advice: do NOT take your animal here, drive to Paradise, drive to Chico! My vet was not in the office on this day and for the next couple of days, so I took my chicken to Magalia, unfortunately. The receptionist was kind and helpful and she put me on hold while she asked the Dr. Weber a question for me. When I got there, Rich Gingery did not do what the receptionist told me over the phone that would be done. Instead I was told, "the possibilities are endless and much testing needs to be involved." I was told my chicken's respiratory system sounded clear by Rich Gingery (after Dr. Weber came in briefly to examine her) even though she was sneezing, shaking her head, scratching her head, and could not catch air as she mouth breathed quickly. This did not make sense. If I had a question or comment, Rich Gingery was extremely condescending and smug the whole time he spoke to me. I should have walked out at this point, and regret staying. I think I was in shock. Rich Gingery is short, has a chubby face, dark brown hair, and has a lot of facial hair. I commented that if the animal were to be treated, I preferred her to get an injection. I should not have to say such a thing, because you do not stick pills down an animal's or a human's throat that is in distress and is having trouble breathing. Also, injections reach the blood system faster too in an emergency. Rich told me, rudely of course, they don't do injections there. I asked why? He said because it is just better not to. I had to ask why again. He said it may introduce infection. This is why you do an alcohol swab on the animal before the small needle injection. Where did he go to vet school? Or did he? Wow, ask any VACA registered vet if they do injections. Of course they do. Rich Gingery asked me who my vet was and I told him he was Dr. Dohnor, who is a fantastic vet for birds and all animals. To my further dismay, Rich Gingery immediately began to insult my Chico vet using strong words! It was not just a couple insults, but he went on and on and on. I did not comment to this, but I disagreed not only to what he was saying, but his extreme unprofessional behavior. Rich Gingery even told me that I "could tell my vet what he said and he was not afraid." What??!!! This was so crazy! Rich Gingery left the tiny exam room and came back into the room to tell me that I needed to stay in the exam room because they were having a pizza party in the entry room. What a weird and rude request. I thought he was coming in to ask me if I wanted a piece. LOl! He was telling me, the customer to stay out of the entry room because there was pizza. Strange! Besides, why in the world would he think I was not going to stay in the exam room? I have had many pets in my life and have never left the exam room to go sit in the entry room during my visit with the vet until it was completed. Next, I was brought a long list of tests. I told him I had a chicken and I just wanted to treat her and not pay a million dollars to "rule out all the possibilities." This comment greatly offended Rich and he stopped to make that known with a condescending look and comment. Did he expect me to pay several hundred dollars to rule out possibilities for my chicken? I felt as though they probably milked their poor customers for money. I was asked to sign a paper refusing to do all of those tests. I thought this was weird too. He did not go over this long list costing a ton of money, so why did I have to sign it? Rich Gingery left the room and came back in and AGAIN began telling me how horrible my vet was and how he knew nothing about birds. By this point, I was so extremely uncomfortable and was texting my husband about this guy, I just wanted to leave. Next, I asked him to stop giving me his smug, condescending looks and I told him I needed to pay my bill and leave. Next, he decided to lecture me to tell me that it was me who was impossible, etc...So he went from insulting my vet, being rude to me, not doing what I was told over the phone, now to insulting me! After he got done lecturing me and telling me that it was me being the difficult one, it became so incredulous, it was comical. I then laughed and sarcastically told him, "Thank you, I will take everything you say to heart." I turned and walked out of the microscopic room I was waiting in and paid my bill. As I walked away, he decided to jab me one last time by telling me "You do not have a heart." Boy, one last unprofessional insulting comment. Wow, here I am driving 45 minutes to Magalia to try and treat my suffering chicken and he is saying I have no heart? I guess there is a reason why this office was in such a dilapidated building, with tattered furniture, tiny non-ADA compliant exam rooms, no parking lot (just mud), and no sidewalks. I received absolutely nothing for the $150 bill I paid. I actually felt like I just paid to get abused by Rich Gingery. read more

My son referred me to Whispering Pines after we got a new puppy. I purchased the puppy package, part of which was to include all puppy immunization visits and dog classes for the life of my puppy. I took my pup in for his immunization appointment. While I was there I mentioned an issue with my pup that I was concerned about. After speaking with Rich, who is not a veterinarian, suggested a test be performed as a precautionary measure. I agreed to the procedure and expected to pay to have it done. HOWEVER, because they performed the test, they charged me for the office visit. I was not happy because that visit should have been covered by my puppy package. I spoke with Rich about it, and after going round and round with him, his final words to me were, "sorry, but we're not going to be able to come to a resolution" . Over $27.30 he lost me as a customer. It was clear from Rich's response that i was not a valued client. Also, the puppy classes consist of Rich repeating the same 5 week course of basic commands. I have had animals my entire life and have NEVER experienced a veterinary office like this. I would NOT recommend them to ANYONE! read more

I know that the people at this clinic care. I was disappointed when I spent $2000 to have surgery on my parrots leg and the surgery did not fix the problem. Test were run and then antibiotics were prescribed. They gave me a hard time about getting the meds from someone else. Said I had to send the script to them myself. I got pissed and they changed their mind. They called the script into the place where I would be purchasing the meds. After a couple of weeks of giving my parrot the meds it seemed like it would take forever with the way the instructions read. I called the place where I got the meds. The meds were called in wrong. I verified the instructions with Whispering Pines. I called Whispering pines and I was told to just finish the meds. So I did. I firmly believe that the meds never worked because they weren't being given correctly. Whispering pines never offered to give me new meds with the correct script. My parrot died today at 20 years old. Too young for him to die. I'm not sure what other people are talking about but I was very pissed when Dr Webber never came out to talk to me after surgery. He had the receptionist give me instructions. I did talk to him on the phone after I was very insistent that he call me. Never going there again. read more

Our visit was amazing! Rich and Dr. Weber are exceptional. My Rottweiler, due to past bad vet experiences, has severe separation anxiety, acts out in aggression, and until yesterday, had to be sedated to be examined for anything, which is an additional $300 plus the regular vet visit. I had a conversation with Rich prior to the appointment, and read the list of medications I had in my possession to sedate my dog prior to the appointment. He expressed his displeasure of every medication I listed, and said the drugs I named were not behavioral drugs and should never be used in my situation. He had me bring my dog in drug free. I was hesitant but took his advice. Rachelle the receptionist is perky and fantastic and greeted us, got us settled into a room, where Rich came in and with out cornering my baby girl, spent the time to get to know her and let her adjust to his presence. Long story short, for the first time in over 2 years, my dog had a complete examination by Rich and Dr Weber, WITHOUT being sedated. She even let him lead her from the room. She was not perky and excited, yet she did not snarl, snap, and squirm to get away from him. I never thought I would live to see this happen with my baby girl! The surgery that my dog needs for elbow dysplasia, is almost half the price quoted from the other vets, done on site, not a traveling orthopedic surgeon that all the other vets in my area offer. It is done with up to date laser equipment, which is less invasive and less prone to infection. They also board your animal overnight at no charge unless a staff member has to stay on site and administer medication, which typically is not the case with a basic surgery. They go over all the processes with you, step by step, testing and x-rays required (almost half price from other vets) and let you know the importance of each test so you can choose which one to be done first. This way they are not performing test that are not necessary, at the same time letting you know the worst case scenario in case the first test does not expose the medical issue your fur baby is having. They are honest with you about Your pets health, and the benefits of having the treatment suggested, giving you options if they are available! I drive two hours to see them, and I am so satisfied with the kindness, caring, understanding, and most of all the knowledgeable and educated experience they possess that I will do that the remaining of her life! She is almost three and thanks to Rich has a lot of happy and productive years ahead of her! Chicken lady has no idea what she is talking about in her bad review. Quite comical if you are a loving pet owner and understand that a doctor is not going to have you come in, give your pet a shot and not do any testing to find out the underlying issue. Just reading her review, which I took as a positive review, reassured me that the clinic takes your pet's health seriously, doesn't hand out band-aids, collect your money and move on! read more
