Origami Ink is a cute little pen store in a cute little building. They have an impressive selection of various fountain pens, a solid selection of inks, and a variety of odds and ends from pen holders to paper. There's a few art pieces here as well and display boxes. The salesman here was very personable. He was very chatty with everyone who came in interested in hearing everything and anything that had to be said. He was eager to help and was very engaging. It was obvious he was very familiar with the product. He helped my friend refill his fountain pen, was willing to look for a particular ink, and just was super helpful. The store was nicely set up with everything clearly displayed. I was very impressed with everything I saw.

Found Lamy 2000 fountain pen and iroshizuku ink. I can't add anything to that.

Unfortunately there is no fine pen or stationary story (that I know of) in Winston-Salem, so I was ecstatic to find this place in Asheville and stop here every visit now. They have a good and focused selection of pens (fountain, roller ball, ball point), papers (Rhodia, Clairefontaine), and inks (Iroshizuku, J. Herbin, Noodlers). More importantly, they have excellent customer service. Unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the gentleman who works there, but he is so helpful but in a relaxed, low-pressure way. I picked up a Lamy 2000 and he helped my wife pick out two nice roller balls including a Retro 51 (they have a number of options there). I mentioned this when I was visiting, but in case you are reading this: try to get the Leuchtturm1917 line of journals -- especially the bullet journal style which are all the rage right now.

Wonderful place and service. There is a little bit of everything you would need. Both beginner and collector will benefit from a visit to the store.

My Dad would always bring me along with him to his trips to Hallmark. I remember they used to sell troll dolls and glass figurines, and my Dad would always let me pick one when we went to Hallmark. Hallmark reminds me to treasure good memories and never take anything or anyone for granted. Remind someone how much you truly care for them with the perfect gift. Fast forward to a few years later, when the Asheville Mall starts a new renovation, with new floors throughout the Mall and new stores. Hallmark moved beside Belk, and became a little smaller than the previous one. I still love coming in this Hallmark, because it reminds me of those good memories from the past. My fiancé and I always come in Hallmark when we visit the Mall on the weekends and usually always leave with something. We usually find cards, beanie babies, itty bittys, or ornaments around Christmas time. Almost all of the time, the store associates are helpful and polite. I've had nothing but good experiences here lately, and I hope it stays that way. I wish we had more Hallmark locations in Asheville like we used to, as I love to shop here! I remember when there was a Hallmark in Weaverville, Oteen and one on Hendersonvile Road. Times have really changed, and this is the only Hallmark left around Asheville. Nothing but good memories and good times here! The perfect place to buy one of those signature "Hallmark cards".

Malaprop's Bookstore and Cafe is at the heart of downtown Asheville and blends well with other local businesses. The bookstore has its charm. The bookstore carries many tending and new releases of books. I'm intrigued that the bookstore hosts weekly events and some quirky magnetic and trinkets.

I liked the name so much because I was the type of person who used malaprops a good amount. It's extra charming because you're able to order something from their cafe while reading your book. This spot is deceptively huge. The different sections are very intentional and beautifully organized. I had an especially great time looking at the "Beautiful Books" section this visit. I ended up falling in love with a short stories book by Chips Hardy that I took home. I also adored their graphic t-shirts here. I am not a big t-shirt person, but always want more graphic tees, so was so excited to love this one so much. I had a really special experience with one of the booksellers here on my recent visit too. I could not find The Enchanted April in the fiction section and when I asked, one of the booksellers got really excited about the author and that book. She passionately told me how wonderful the book was. We were sad to see it was sold out, but suggested I check a bookstore a block over. I love this bookstore and think everyone should make it a stop on an Asheville trip.
