The catfish and fried okra is good, but the portions are small. The fried green tomatoes were not good and tasted sour. We thought menu items were overpriced for quantity. But I will say, their tea is excellent and in a class by itself here. read more

Have you ever woken up confused, deserted, and alone in the middle of an intensely humid national forest in southern Mississippi? If so, then you will be able to relate to the intense, undeniable craving for a chicken salad croissant that accompanies such a circumstance. Fortunately the Whistle Stop in nearby town, Wiggins, was able to satiate my specific culinary needs. The croissant I ordered was sufficiently greasy and came with a side of fried green tomatoes, which I always thought were a myth! Crazy!!!!! I guess you can fry just about anything these days.... I also encountered packets of preserved lemon juice for the first time. They made my iced tea taste faintly of Lysol, but not in a bad way. If anything, it made my mouth feel extra clean and fresh. The waitress was friendly and seemed accustomed to guiding clueless out-of-towners like myself. The restaurant décor could be described as "ocean kitsch" with notable pieces including but not limited to a shark shaped cookie/tip jar that roars menacingly upon being opened. It made leaving a tip a little bit intimidating, but well worth it. Though the likelihood of me returning to Wiggins, MS is slim (my boss doesn't offer many vacation days) I now have memories to last a lifetime. Thanks, Whistle Stop. read more

Loved my food! The catfish was delicious. They use a corn flour brand that was safe for me to eat ( gluten-free). My four year old loved her grilled shrimp. My husband order the roast beef sandwich, it was real thick slices of roast beef. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant. The place was very clean and bathroom smelled of bleach. Which means they are cleaning it! The staff wore face mask, that's also a plus for me. I can't wait to go back for dinner time to try their all you can eat options :)! read more

Since being transferred from Saucier to Moss Point we really had not been to the Wiggins area. Since I had a tax customer I was meeting over that way we decided to go when I finished. The service and the food was just as good as the last time we had been there. We decided to try desserts tonight, unlike previous visits. They had a raspberry pound cake that my husband seemed very interested in trying and I had the chocolate cake. The pound cake was soft and delicious, according to my husband, and the Chocolate cake was good. My husbands wheelchair is able to fit through the doors to get, but the space between the tables is kinda small so they put us at the first table to accommodate his chair. First time in Wiggins,MS and my wife found this gem of a restaurant. We highly recommend stopping here to eat. If you like fried green tomatoes they are a must. My wife and daughter had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and loved it. In laws had the hamburger steak with corn and salad and said it was delicious. I had the shrimp poboy and it was excellent I think there was a pound of shrimp covering it. The service was great and everyone is very friendly. If we ever come through here again we will stop by. read more

We were just driving through and stopped and had the boiled shrimp, potatoes and corn and it was very good!

We were cruising around southern Mississippi and happened up on this quaint restaurant. Small town atmosphere was awesome right next to the old railroad. I had the catfish wife had the hamburger steak. Food was great not greasy very hearty portions. Waitress was excellent and kept our drinks refilled timely. Will definitely return. read more

When my Dad was in the rehabilitation center up there, I would take him here to eat. My Dad was 100% DAV and could not walk very far, he always wanted to sit at the table right inside the door. The people were always so kind to me and my Dad. The food was good and my Dad was always happy to eat a home style meal from there. It was good the first couple of times I ate there... As the years went by and the more I ate there the more things would go wrong I would get frozen tartar sauce on my to go meals, the vegetables are never hot if you get something fried it's good because it comes out hot they do it fresh but for some reason the vegetables are never hot ... And I ate there three days ago I have came to the conclusion I will no longer be a patron here read more

One of the ONLY unique (read: non-chain) places to stop for some decent food in all of Mississippi! It has a very cute interior like you are having a picnic, but inside with red checkered table cloths. I ate here on Friday, I called ahead and was told they were open until 9pm. Wish I could give it 2-1/2 stars. This place seems to do a bustling business which seemed to be a good sign. The have a poster of the US, when you come into the restaurant, and invite people from outside the area to put a pin in the map. I put in a pin while another couple entered the restaurant behind me. First thing I was asked as a entered was if I had a take-out order, they seem to have a decent to-go business. When I indicated that I was dining solo, the hostess directed me to the small table in the back right hand side and indicated a waitress would be right with me. I had a seat and a moment or two later noticed the couple who entered behind me being escourted to a table right next to me. My waitress was polite, cheerful and seemed efficient. I ordered the fish platter with baked beans & potato salad (see uploaded picture).The fish had a nice batter and was soft and flaky. I liked it. However, the baked beans tasted like they came out of the can and the potato salad was just blah. I was disappointed and wished I'd tried the fried green tomatoes which are mentioned by a previous reviewer and were highlighted on the menu as being their specialty. The available parking is a bit small around the storefront but there appeared to be a lot on the side for overflow. It was raining so I didn't spend too much time scoping the parking situation. The building is white with red trim and overall was bright and inviting. I'll have to be up in the area again in a couple of months but I'm still not sure if I'll go back. Given the other two positive reviews I may give it another shot. read more

When I found out that there was a Whistle Stop Cafe in Wiggins, I was really excited to plan my supper there while I was in town on business. However, I soon found out that this place was nowhere near the quality of the original WSC in Irondale, AL. I was expecting a huge buffet of country cookin' (like in Irondale) but a majority of the menu here was seafood. Still, I needed my fix of good country fare so I ordered the country fried steak with white gravy, green beans and mashed potatoes. The food was just so-so. I was told by my waitress that the steak was pre-battered frozen. The green beans had hardly any seasoning and the mashed potatoes were not homemade. One postitive- the waitress I had was very attentive and always there to keep my tea glass full. read more

I ordered the shrimp poboy and it was very good, and the poboy was over flowing with shrimp, so much so that I had to rake some out onto my plate in order to take a bite of the poboy. It is also reasonably priced at $8.95. My daughter had fried okra with her shrimp poboy and she said it was real good. Now I would have given five stars, but I ordered BBQ beans as a side, as it was on the side menu, and when it was brought to me it was baked beans (which is not on the menu). When I nicely pointed it out, I was told that BBQ beans and baked beans are the samething. Uh no one has BBQ sauce added to it, and the other doesn't. So I recommend if you want BBQ beans off the menu not to order them, because you will get baked beans instead. read more

Disappointing, I ordered the special Fried Catfish, the catfish was fine but the sides were not worth eating. Mac and Cheese is a southern staple but theirs was box from the store and not even the good kind. The hush puppies were as hard as a brick. The coleslaw was runny. I will never eat there again. We ordered the catfish and a locomotive burger. The catfishes seasoned very well and tender. The burger was fantastic!! Even the sides of coleslaw and potato salad were better than most. They have weekend all you can eat boiled shells and catfish that starts at 5:00. read more

My first experience here was walking in and placing a to-go order. Being an Asian American, I always feel a little out of place in rural Mississippi, but was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the lady behind the counter was who took my order and by one of the locals who held the door open for me when I walked out with my food. I had the lunch special with meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy. Not bad, but nothing special. A few nights later I stopped in hoping to get their all-you-can-eat boiled shrimp dinner. It was only 7pm, but they had already sold out! The waitress advised me to arrive earlier next time as this is very typical. I decided on the catfish and oyster dinner with potato salad, coleslaw and a roll. Delicious! The catfish and oysters were hot out of the fryer and the coleslaw and potato salad were nice and chilled. Not that there is anything hard about deep frying seafood and scooping salad out of the refrigerator, but it's always a huge dissapointment to order a deep fried dish and get it after it's been sitting around for awhile. It really seemed like my plate had been prepared with love. The breading on the oysters and catfish was a bit spicy, which made it more interesting than just plain breading and the fish itself was tender and moist inside. Just like my previous experience, the service was very friendly. The Whistle Stop is open for lunch most days, but for dinner only on certain nights. If you ever find yourself in Wiggins, the Whistle Stop is a safe bet! read more

Had lunch here yesterday, center cut pork chops and I have to say it was wonderful. We ordered fried green tomatoes and onion rings and they were very good...the fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever had!! We had hot apple pie ala mode for desert....perfect!! Our server was a professional, she never missed a beat and appeared to understand that we wanted to take our time but we never lacked for attention!! I am from Gulfport and my daughter and I were wedding shopping and came across the café, It looked so quaint so we went in. The fried fish was out of this world, moist, thick and had a wonderful taste and the fried green tomatoes were outstanding!!!! Second visit to your cafe was good untill I was headed to the ladies room it was occupied so I went to stand by a cleared table and your heavy set waittress said"We're closing Mam".. I said, "I have already eaten." the young man with dark hair told her that I was sitting up front".. I told her she had been looking my way the whole time I was there " she kept on saying I have been busy no time to look at you... Your restaurant has the sign wait to be seated .as you come in .. I couldn't have gotten that far without being escorted... The waitress is heavy set with blonde hair and wear's a cap..
