I haven't stopped at the White Horse because I thought it was just coffee and tea and that would not interest me. Last week while shopping at the Central Feed Store I was told that White Horse has a really good BLT. Well, I really like a good BLT. So I went and ordered one with a side of meatball soup. First of all the soup was really good and I love a good soup and the sandwich was also very good. Service was first rate and friendly and fast. I will be going back to try more things on their menu and I definitely want to try other soups. This place has good food and is a lot more than coffee and tea and I recommend you give it a try. read more

A really interesting place. When you first come in it's right to the coffee. If you are going to stay for breakfast, then you order at the counter then find a table. The décor of this place can keep you interested for quite awhile. We ordered a pretty standard breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast) and waited about an hour to get served. Conversation was good and the staff came by on a regular basis to participate in our conversation. I really kind of think this is part of the unique environment they offer. It is a totally non-rushed, make yourself at home type establishment. If that is what they are looking for then they have hit a total homerun. If you are in a rush I would have to recommend going somewhere else or at least let them know you are in a hurry. Food was very good and the bacon was extra, extra thick and cooked to perfection. I love this place! A beautiful, airy setup with a room for pretty birds that you can look at through a large window on one side of the wall. Their burgers are great, and they have the BEST FRIES I have ever had anywhere. Although they are known for their coffee and teas--their food is incredible too! Wonderful gem in Sutherlin! We went to The White Horse after being invited to a Saint Patrick's Day Celebration by some friends. For this event the place was packed, with live Irish music provided by the Red Dragon Irish Band and people of all ages were dancing jigs in the little bit of free floor space available. Corned beef and cabbage and Guinness Stout abounded. But through the crowd, it was easy to see that this is indeed a unique, interesting and quirky place...just the sort of place to spend a leisurely breakfast or lunch (or both) and enjoy the atmosphere, decor and several shelves of curious collectables. First off, they had racist email print outs right next to all the magazines and other reads of a poll trying to explain how whites are killed by blacks compared to the other way around & also some other memes near the pastries. Second, everyone in there is definitely too old to be working because they can barely understand what you're trying to order. All of the pastries looked like they've been sitting there for hours, not appetizing at all Once we ordered two coffees, we immediately asked for a refund because of the horrible coffee & because of all the racists slurs around the place, we were disgusted. First thing the employee said was " I can't give you a refund". Then we brought up how we feel offended by the racist stuff we've seen laying out then he started to trip up on his words then gave us the refund. I just love this place! Last week I had the BBQ pork sandwich with a salad. The salad even had sliced strawberries! Both were delicious. Today, I had the BLT with onion rings. Thick bacon! Both served with a pickle and a slice of tomato. Comforting music playing, open and welcome environment, cute decorations, and Leo greeting the customers. This is a must stop when in the area. The ambience is amazing-down home merges with fantasy. The service was great. The coffee as amazing. We had a shot in the dark because we like strong coffee and this did not disappoint. We also had a pot of French press which was very good too. We had the 3-egg omelette and French toast. Both were superb! French toast was crispy. Hash browns were so fresh! Omelette was full of ingredients and cheese. The pastries looked yummy but we resisted..just barely! Yes there are the usual places to stop but I do recommend that if you traveling to or from Portland on I-5 you check this place out. It was around noon on our trip back home that we found this place by happenstance. The interior of the place is filled with kitsch. There are meme posters everywhere and a concrete seahorse dragon leads you around the drive thru. Plus you can buy lots of gegaws, coffee tea, t-Shirts etc. and probably for the right price even the place. The owner is an interesting gentleman that likes to share his history. He fixed us decent double shot lattes and we split a BLT and side salad on very good rye bread. All of the ingredients were excellent but the blue cheese dressing we had with the salad was commercial. Still in all it was a very nice lunch and pleasant time. Yes they have wine and beer too. If the road takes us that way again we will take the time to stop at the White Horse and share some more tall tales and jokes. So much better then the usual fast synthetic food and a fine way to refresh yourself as you regroup off the Interstate. read more

Quirky spot! The owners are really sweet, but this is NOT the place to go if you are looking for a quick brew! I visited hoping to pick up pastries on my way to work and waited for a number of minutes before they noticed and served me. The coffee is self-serve and theres only one carafe. The cherry pastry was cold and seemed store bought (although tasty), and the cinnamon roll wasn't very sweet or sticky. Overall I was disappointed by the food and the experience. read more

Leo and Crystal are two super special people. White Horse is really the only place in this area where you can drink an excellent cup of coffee. There aren't many places locally where you can find coffee as good as the food, or food as good as the coffee. Here, you find both. You don't have to choose between one or the other. They roast their own beans, and source them from all over the world. You can drink your coffee there, and buy beans to brew at home. We love the comfortable, laid back atmosphere, and the friendly conversation with the owners, who are always there to serve you right. For my husband and I there is no better place to drink a hot cup of fresh ground coffee. On the first snow day of the year my kids beg us to take them there for hot coco. Leo makes it extra chocolatey for the little ones. Sutherlin is lucky to have such a fantastic coffee spot. read more

Nice atmosphere, in sad i missed the days when there were birds in the aviary. The owner was a little grouchy, i ordered a bagel toasted with butter and a mocha while visiting with a friend; i got my drink within a few minutes but it tasted like it had soured? I tried to drink it but it was nasty. I waited for my bagel for about 10 minutes before inquiring (they were fairly busy), was told it would be out soon. Another 5 minutes passed and i asked again. Nothing. Finally, a few minutes later it arrived at the table. Upon leaving i decided to buy a cookie, my friend was eating one and the bite i tried was delicious, i went to pay and the owner got impatient with my fumbling for my wallet and told me to just take it. I couldn't tell if he was mad or trying to be nice. I'm going to go with nice. however overall i wasn't impressed. I'll probably be back someday as is the only little coffee shop in town, maybe I'll have a better experience then. read more

Very unfriendly. We came in based off of the hours listed on google, thinking we still had an hour to grab some fresh coffee and a bag of pre-roasted beans. When we came in the owner said they stopped serving food an hour ago. We were unsure if that meant they were also not serving coffee. We asked a few times what his hours were, and if it was just food orders he wasn't taking (there was a table of five people eating, drinking and talking). He wouldn't look at us, or even attempt to talk to us. I was rather shocked as we came in friendly and excited to try this small town place, and we were incredibly ignored as soon as we walked in the door. Food may be great and so may the coffee, but the owner is over the top rude. I've never walked into a business and been so intentionally ignored. We attempted (with friendliness) to at least get him to tell us what his hours were so we could come back, but he refused to look at us or speak to us, and would only interact with the table of older adults. Very bizarre! I don't care if you're ready to retire, or are older and over running your own business, if you refuse to provide even the most basic customer service I will not give you my business. Sadly he went the opposite of even the bare minimum of customer service and took it into the negative: Rude and unkind! read more
