The Nashville Public Library is a great example of why I love public libraries: it's not just…read morebooks, it's a resource for the community. This library, located in downtown Nashville, has lots of resources for people, including my favorite: a "Library of Things" where people can check out useful objects, such as musical instruments, tools, baking pans, weights, pedometers, sewing machines, binoculars, etc. In the teen area, there is a huge maker space with instruments, a loom for weaving, fabric and yarn for creating things, a podcast room, tools and all kinds of things that teens can use to be creative. The children's area of the library has a big play structure that looks like a ship, as well as a rock climbing wall (I know!), sensory toys, and little nooks with areas set up for play. There's a whole section on the third floor with charging stations and places for adults to hang out. My magazine-loving self loved that they had an archive of old magazines bound into books. I found decades-old copies of Seventeen and Vogue. The whole library itself is beautiful, with marble floors and lots of windows. It was super quiet when I visited. What a beautiful and useful space for the community.

Some people believe that libraries are going the way of the dinosaur. Yet, by the way Clarksville's…read morelibrary has progressed over the years, this would never cross your mind once you step inside. It is a library - yet they have more just 'archaic books on a shelf'. They have a growing computer lab, 60+ computers last I checked. With these computer labs, come various computer classes from the elderly to coding for children. They have a children's section and a pre-teen section so you don't have to run around looking for books that you might enjoy. The children's section is actually behind an extra set of doors for added security. There are secluded study rooms, numerous audio books and the latest DVDs that the library receives all the time. No reason to use a Redbox when this library has the latest and greatest movies. This library has also kept up with technology. You can reserve your items online, and then you will receive an e-mail once it comes in and they will hold it for you. Not only that, but say you want a book that they don't have; simply request it online via their 'order form.' I have actually done this needing a certain study guide. The book came in a few weeks later, and I received an e-mail stating it was ready for pickup. Couldn't ask for more - all for 'free'.

We mostly check out children's books here, but we have gotten ones from the upstairs before as well. I do wish there was more parking, but it seems that this has become an issue with the new court house. So it would be nice if that lot was for library patrons only. Most of us come to the library for silence and for some reason they missed the memo. How does it make sense to have kids toys all around the library when there is a kids area. I spoke to someone and the "director" told me I know the mayor personally and asked would of like to talk to him. This is the worst library to go to if youre looking for silence.

We are visiting Bowling Green for just two days and already feel the reach and importance of the public library. Saturday morning we were at the SoKY IceRink seasonally opened at the Farmers Market. Your library card will earn you a $2 discount. Story hour sponsored by the library is also offered at the IceRink twice a week. Saturday evening we celebrated the Winter Solstice at the Capitol Arts Center at the 2nd Annual Music for the Solstice: a Celtic Celebration. This impressive concert with poetry readings and vocalist sprinkled in was sponsored by the Warren County Public Library. Thanks! I can only imagine what else this library offers the community. Today's front page newspaper headline was about the Main Library Renovation plans. Sounds like even better things are in store for that place with a lot of great books.

If it is a TV series season of DVDs like Friends Season One, you can check out that season set of DVDs for two weeks. DVD library is extensive. Some of the DVDs are the latest DVDs set out in RedBox except they are free to check out. The library book selection is not so big, but I have no complaints. I am very happy with this library. I love watching Japanese anime and horror movies. One of the perks of this library is the free books and items at the entrance. They, also, have lots of fun and free activities for children. I don't have children, yet I think parents should take advantage of such services!

There are two stories filled with beautiful views to sit and get some work done while having great scenery to look up at. I also really appreciated the natural lighting all around this library that gives it a welcoming and uplifting feel! Librarians were friendly and helpful, as well. I asked if they could help me get a library card set up and they had it done within a few minutes! Such a great experience in an amazing library. I would definitely recommend and appreciate finding this hidden gem!
