Purpose-remodeled by owner Matt Decker, who lives upstairs with his family, this beautiful, sparkling clean Assisted Living and Memory center is set in a grove of lovely trees, with a deck and koi pond in back. The facility has 8 large bedrooms, each with a beautiful view and en-suite or hallway bathroom access, plus a long-time, dedicated, and very caring staff. They plan enrichment activities for the residents (e.g., chair exercise, game show time, small art projects), and cook meals and snacks (like freshly baked cookies) in their lovely kitchen. We could not have been happier with the care my MIL received, and she was appropriately sent to a hospital when the staff noticed that she was eating poorly and began complaining of stomach pain, in what ended up to be her final illness. I hope you are blessed enough to find space at Waterfalls when your loved one needs it.

Grandma called the front desk after delivery confirmation, and the staff told her nothing was delivered. My mother in law called this morning following up on a phone installation that was supposed to occur in Grandma's room, but the staff has not yet swapped the phones, which they assured us would be completed before today. The woman was very rude to my mother in law, and not at all empathetic towards the incomplete service. I called around 6pm this evening after receiving a call from Grandma that groceries still have not arrived. As I was trying to explain what we had been told, the woman on the phone kept interrupting me and saying "there is nothing at my desk." As I continued to complete my part of the conversation, the woman very abrasively said "ok, no, I guess you will talk." Really? I paused in disbelief. As I tried to ask clarifying questions, the woman became more irritated and kept cutting me off. I asked the process of how they handle perishables, and she said they go immediately to the room, but with covid, they currently hold all non-perishables for 48 hours. Look, I get COVID may change your basic function at the front desk, but this Grandma hasn't been able to have more than 2 visits, and they had to be outside, over the past 6 months. The monthly expense of this place is reasonable, but the poor customer care is unacceptable. I don't care if 15 people call for the same thing. Put a smile on your face, and empathize that someone who's care you are entrusted with, did not get a delivery that was expected yesterday. I'm not asking you to resolve it, but even the local fast food chains have better customer service. Very disappointed. Please find a role for this associate that is not people facing, because my confidence in her ability is non-existent.

I have been going through the process to determine if she is to stay living there or not. When walking my mothers dogs, John Dressel, who supposedly works for Heartlands, (he did not have a name tag on to identify that he actually works for Heartlands) runs over to me and ask where is my mother, who is in rehab and is my mother staying at Heartlands, I told him she stays here at heartlands but I do not know if she will come back. He then ask am I staying there, I told him sometimes and now until I can make determination on her moving out. He then says you are not on the lease. I ask is this for sure, he says I don't know boy, I then ask him what did you say, he says is nigga better without the r, I step back and say I served honorably in my country, I'm an American too. He then says I served too, that does not work anymore. At this point I asked to speak to his supervisor, he then yells, I am the supervisor. I say sir leave me alone, I'm just helping out my mom, he then tells me to "get off the property or I'm going to call the police". I then go to the front desk and ask to speak to his supervisor, he now says the supervisor is not in and that he is going to call the police on me. I then walk off and go to the police station in Ellicott City. I explain to the officer on duty at the front desk the exact same as I'm writing now. I explain that I have to get my mom belongs. I was then told to go get the belongings and if the police come to explain that I'm getting my mothers belongings. I felt threaten by John Dressel and concerned for my life. When I brought this matter up to the front office staff of Eveline Craig, Katie Morris, Kionna Harris, Sherri Sitler, I received no response regarding this matter. Why would anyone want there love one to be exposed to such a toxic environment. That kind of language from John Dressel should not be spoken to anyone. PS. I reported over two month ago of a mixed Asian and Caucasian woman who is heavy set and always wears calf socks constantly watching me asking about why I'm in the building as if she worked there which I was told she did not and was a resident. I was told by Eveline whom works in the front office that it was not personal regarding asking me why I was there by this resident. Yet clearly I was being watched despite me setting up care for my mother living at Heartlands independent housing, despite me telling the front desk staff and office that I was rearranging matters for my mother to find proper care and place to stay, despite the fact that on the contract it has my name as paying for everything. Also the front desk staff receptionist (middle aged Caucasian woman with blond hair) yelled at me on several occasions when I called asking if my mother was ok as I did not hear from her and was not in the building nor area for several weeks yet they attempted to pretend that I was there in the building all the time. They employ a company called Capital City Nurses to assist some of the people who live there in independent living, a women by the name of Binty of African descent with dark hue who is married and was assigned by Capital City nursing to assist my mother repeatedly came late to give my mother life saving medication and on several occasions ask me to buy her a burgundy bag, flirted with me, yelled at me as if I was a child at random intervals after refusing to buy her anything. Also an outside organization assisting with in home care, physical therapy unrelated to me named Bayada reported to me that they found my mother's prescriptions lying on her living room table with the pills scattered out of the container on the table. I reported and documented this to Capital City nursing and they ignored everything. That's the kind of lousy care and selfish behavior you can expect from this organization and associates.

This review is for Lorien Mt. Airy AND Lorien Encore in Turf Valley. My 93 yr. old mother was…read morerecently at Encore for rehab after two weeks on life support in the ICU due to RSV in addition to COPD. It was not a hopeful situation. Miraculously, she showed signs of improvement and was eventually discharged to Lorien Mt. Airy (due to bed availability). She was there for two weeks before we could have her transferred to Encore which is much closer to our home. Mt. Airy was fine, but not what we had hoped. The staff was attentive and very kind, but the conditions were old and crowded. My mother had to share an extremely small room which made it difficult to move around in and to have company. The hallways were littered with equipment and additional rehab supplies. It was no fault of the rehab facility; they seemed to be short on storage areas. When a room finally opened up at Encore we were thrilled. It was day and night. The staff was extremely attentive to her needs, the facility was full of sunshine and spotless and the staff genuinely seemed to love their jobs. I appreciated the fact that everyone wore a mask, even those working at the front desk. My mother's rehab was slower than we had hoped, but it all takes time. My mother went from not being able to move her leg while being in bed, to walking out of there and resuming her former lifestyle (with the help of nightly oxygen) and is now living independently in her apartment at Heartlands Senior Living. The staff at Encore were always there to answer our many questions and would reach out whenever there was a change in status. I was there daily to visit my mother and although she wanted to go home from Day 1, she was sad to say good-bye when the time came. I can't thank the staff at Encore enough for taking such good care of our mother. God forbid that we will have a repeat situation, but if it were the case, Encore would be our first stop!
