The park is on Line St, tucked away from the hustle-and-bustle, busy areas of downtown. I recommend getting coffee or food from one of the local spots and bringing it here to relax. This park has a small playground for children, which is "good enough" even if it's not the most innovative playground in Charleston. Parking may be a challenge for parents. Elliotborough Park is also a compost drop-off site for the City of Charleston's new composting program, and I'm glad to see the city adding more and more composting sites.

The first one told me about the importance of marshland, but was hard to read because it was very faded. The second, more solid and legible sign / plaque, gave us a history of how the park got it's name and who she was. The views from this end of the park are nice and you can see the new construction of the Children's Center and the Marina along Lockwood Blvd. Pelicans could be see diving in to the water for breakfast, so we stopped to watch that for a minute. Benches are available for sitting if you are so inclined. Overall, a nice quaint park for sitting and meditating.

Directly across from the harbor, it mainly consists of an overflow pond, a fishing dock and a couple of benches under the shade of oak trees. You can relax and take in the peacefulness around you, watch the locals fish, or catch a few yourself. You have to park in the private parking lot of the condos just off of Lockwood, but I have never had a problem with this. There is not a lot of room for kids to run around but it is a cool spot to share with bigger kids who are interested in fishing. Overall though it is a great place, especially if you just need to take a minute or two for yourself.

My most recent visit was for two days of volunteer work with my running club, which hosts a race that begins and ends in the park. Cannon Park's most prominent feature is the raised platform with four columns, which are the last remnants of the old Charleston Museum that burned down in 1981. Lately, people have used sidewalk chalk to write inspirational quotes and positive messages on the columns. For dog parents, Cannon Park is the place to go. Your pups will meet plenty of other pups to social with, as this seems like Charleston's token dog park. I'm not sure if dogs are supposed to be off leash in this park or not, but they often are. The park has doggy bags and waste receptacles, but watch your step as not everyone cleans up. I almost slipped stepping into a few holes as well, and I wish the city would give the park some TLC and level those so no one gets hurt. The park has a small playground, which is shaded but the equipment looks like it's seen better days. Although the Charleston City Parks website claims the park has wifi, it is spotty at best, so I wouldn't count on it. If you're hungry or thirsty while in the park, there's a Walgreens and a gas station very close by. This simple park doesn't have a huge tourist draw, which could be a plus. Since it's so close to the hospitals, it's the perfect place to go for a walk for some fresh air and a little escape from the medical community.

Thanks to the columns that remain from the old museum, they are the perfect meeting spot to hang out with friends or have a first date. I'm not sure what impressed me the most of the many parts of this public (no fee) park…read more An older gentlemanly fellow was tending to the shrubs within the Butterfly Gardens outdoor area. I couldn't help but stand and watch how well he worked, careful footing, tiny pruning sheets, totalky enveloped in his toil. I bumped into a volunteer who told me a bit about the lake behind the main building, the picnic area, the baseball fields --- a sweetheart of a lady, and so generous with her time. I loved the tall pine trees and the pine straw bed they laid down around the picnic table area. We sat breathing in the sweetest air, observing peace -- absorbing tranquility, this is a wonderfully calming place.
