My girlfriend and I were looking to get away for a weekend. We found this special on Groupon for the place, but I know Groupon takes a cut from the business they advertise for. So, I called and asked if we could just pay the Groupon rate straight to White Swan. They agreed and so we travelled across the state. We were greeted by a very friendly host (Cathy), and shown around the house and to our room. Our room was the smallest (we booked it last minute) but there was still plenty of room and the bed was big enough for the two of us. The breakfast was delicious and the home is gorgeous. It was perfect for late September (still warm, out, but not roasting). We were told about local attractions and other things a little farther away, but worth seeing. We ended up spending a day at the Silver Lake Dunes and a lot of the rest of the time just hanging out at the Inn with their friendly kitty cat Max (I love cats, so this was an added bonus). Whitehall/Mears is the town it is in. It's a cute little place. We stopped at the local pub for some food and a beer. We didn't do too much by the lake because it was a little too chilly but I am sure that's awesome in the summer. Pros: beautiful inn, lovely town, lots of stuff to do, good food, good prices, incredibly clean, quiet, and the friendliest host ever. She's like that super awesome aunt or friend of the family that everyone loves. Cons: none. Seriously, none. I won't waste my money staying at hotels anymore, that's for sure. The VERY best experiences ever in pampering...I SO look forward to going there and I am NEVER disappointed. I have visited many B & B's and this one meets, and even exceeds all expectations. Cathy and Ron do ALL possible to be sure your stay is both pleasant and accommodating. Truly they go out of their way to make sure guests have a great experience. The breakfasts? There are none better, Cathy is amazing and will even accommodate your menu requests and health needs as much as possible....and then she keeps refreshing the cookies and brownies upstairs!! Cathy is like a busy bee, always mindful of guests and their needs. Cathy and Ron are both very warm and personable, making guests feel comfortable and "at home" there. I have visited the White Swan Inn several times, and hands down, you can't go wrong here, and when you leave (or before), you will only begin thinking of when you can return :-) Also Whitehall is a very quaint and cozy town...and a great area if you are looking for a quiet stay, which I often do. read more

We've been guests at the White Swan Inn for several years now, always at the holidays, with friends, where the Inn is decorated with the most delightful trees (not to mention the tallest!). The fragrant air is invigorating and relaxing all at the same time. The breakfasts are hearty and delicious (always back for more!). The rooms are very spacious, the teas are most wonderful, and always a little something special at the coffee/tea machine. A small refrigerator is available if you want to bring a bit of fruit or a bottle of champagne. Our hosts are well versed on almost any topic, interesting to chat with, know where to go in the area, what to see, and what's going on around town. This is such a beautiful spot here. I am lucky to to have found this. Coming from Germany for business in Chicago I took 4 days off for a trip around and passing Lake Michigan and it was worth it. This is by far the most beautiful, original, personal and friendly place I could visit by now in the States. Cathy and Ron have thought of all things one may need, the house is an original, the Suite is very nice. Above all one has a certain unique experience as this place is not going to be anywhere else in the world. A nice rest to relax and settle down. If I can visit the area with my girlfriend, next time we'll take some more time for this, it is worth it. If you are nearby, stay here you will be happy to have found this spot. read more

We've stayed here a number of times through the years and have enjoyed each visit. Cathy and Ron think of everything and have all kinds of activities and brochures available if you need something to do. The lake (White Lake) and downtown are within walking distance. And if you're into lighthouses, there's a great one just around the lake and on Lake Michigan, and they have a museum there as well. There's even a theater across the street connected to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp which also provides concerts during the summer. This is a wonderful central location for lots of things in Western Michigan. Pamper yourself and consider staying here! read more

Beyond all the comforts of home! I've stayed at this B&B several times and absolutely love it. Beautiful, calm, comfortable. Having 5 cats at home, I'm even provided with Max a perfect gentleman to provide me feline company. Every detail is just perfectly executed. I can't say enough to praise this wonderful home. I also loved the walk up the winding path from the Crosswinds restaurant to the Inn. The corporate rate made my stay on a par with a not-nearly-as-nice hotel. No negatives... not one. Cathy was so accomodating to my morning schedule -- waking early to make me breakfast. I couldn't ask for more. read more

My husband and I recently spent our anniversary at the white swan inn. It was wonderful! The room was all we could have wanted. I worried that the older two story home might be cold in the winter-boy were we wrong! The home was very warm and we could control the electric heater and the electric fireplace. Breakfast was always great, and a strip of stores was in walking distance. A wonderful Chinese restaurant is also in walking distance, we got take out and ate it in our cozy room. Every time I have stayed at the White Swan I have felt welcome. The house is beautifully decorated and comfortable. I've stayed every room and found each one to be homey and just right for the occasion. Beverages are easily available at all hours. Breakfast always looks appetizing and tastes delicious.The owner takes time to visit personally with her clients and visits with them after the meal has been served. I feel as though I have come to visit friends, not just stay at a B&B. read more

Incredible spot for any type of getaway. Needed a break from the busy city life, and this was perfect! Knowledgeable Inn owners recommend the best activities and eateries in town, most are even walking-distance. Variety of room options, all with wifi, cable, and the conveniences of your own home. My wife & I grew up in Whitehall in the 50's & 60's & have stayed at the White Swan twice when returning for reunions. It was very enjoyabe , comfortable beds & great breakfast ! Close to downtown, across from the restored Playhouse theatre where we went to see a movie for a.25 cents ! An easy walk over the hill to the marina for dinner or charter fishing..... She remembered that one in our group was gluten free and made special muffins and a breakfast menu to delight us all. Ron and Cathy Russell have a great little side business of running sunset charters from their dock that is close to their B&B. It was awesome!!!! Beautifully appointed 40 ft cabin cruiser takes you out for 3 hrs all around White lake then on to Lake Michigan. Highly recommend if u are staying at the inn or even if you aren't! A miniature Grand Hotel right across the street from Whitehall's unique theatre. An easy walk downtown and perfectly located to attend festivals in Goodrich Park. The owner makes you feel more than at home, and the building itself is beautiful and comfy. All this for not much more money than the aging chain hotels out by the freeway. You've not had a room as nice as this in a pricey hotel, but this one comes with a great breakfast as well. Put your feet up by the fireplace in your room ... or, better still, listen to the enthusiastic and knowledgeable advice from Cathy. My husband and I have been guests on several occasions and have enjoyed every minute of our stays. We were made to feel welcome without being overwhelmed. We spent a few nights here during our honeymoon and loved it! The innkeepers were welcoming, the food delicious, and the home clean and wonderfully comfortable.
