We went for a wedding and enjoyed the back deck, main lounge area and lower lounge area, there are many nice places to sit and chat, though if you are not part of a wedding, be aware that portions of the hotel are closed off during ceremonies. The lodge is decorated in a North Woods style. We had a King Suite room which had a fireplace, which we used for a short time, was clean and had a comfortable bed, though the pillows were not good -hard as rocks. The breakfast was better than I expected, they had two kinds of home made frozen omelettes that you could microwave - quite tasty, and a big step up from the Cisco premade egg items at chain motels, plus hard boiled eggs, a good selection of teas and the usual waffles, muffins and bread items. There is a small, cute shopping area that is less than a 10 minute walk away which has a few ladies boutiques, some restaurants and other stores. You can also walk to the grocery store in about 5 minutes and the golf coarse is a 5 minutes drive away. read more

Pros (which far outweigh the cons): very nice and comfortable room, including quality beds and nice toiletry products. Cons: everything thing is styrofoam and plastic! A commitment to the environment should include real mugs for coffee and plates and silverware for the (perfectly adequate) continental breakfast. read more

Follow up to make sure you get your refund if you have to cancel a reservation. We had reservations with a deposit for a wedding that never happened due to covid - I cancelled the day I heard about it. I received an email stating it could take 6-8 weeks to get the refund (that is itself is ridiculous). I patiently waited - until my patience ran out. I made 7 or 8 phone calls over a 4 week period - left messages for the person in charge of refunds and the hotel manager and was told by others they would personally deliver hand messages. Finally today the manager accidentally answered my call and said they were not sure why it was not processed but promised it will be done by tomorrow. We will see. read more

We went to this hotel for a relaxing weekend up north and we were completely disappointed. When we arrived we were told we couldn't enter the hotel for a half hour because there was a wedding taking place in the lobby, so after driving 4 hours with our daughter, we had to stand around for 30 minutes until we could get inside to check in. Once we got to check in, we asked about the $10 lodge credit for the hotel bar/restaurant. Because of the wedding, we were told that it was closed and we could use the money towards the gift shop. We would have eaten on the way if we would have known that the restaurant would be closed. The pool was also closed, due to the wedding. Any to top it all off, we were on the second floor, the wedding was two floors underneath us, and we could hear the music until midnight. The bass was so loud and carried through the whole hotel. We asked if there was any other rooms we could move to that would be quieter and the staff said no. They didn't even seem to care that they were inconveniencing us so much. We actually sat in the room, unable to sleep from the pounding music, looking to see if there were any other options for lodging in the area. Unfortunately, there were no rooms anywhere. It seems like a fine place for a wedding, but as a guest who was not part of the wedding, I had a *terrible* experience. They should really let people know about how everything is closed, you can't check in during the ceremony, and that you can hear the music all over the entire hotel before you book here. I will NEVER stay here again. I am so disappointed! I think we should have gotten some kind of a refund or discount because of how terrible this experience was. read more

We really enjoyed our weekend up by Brainerd. We got a really good deal on this lodge, and quite frankly, it's a good thing that we did. We were a little disappointed in a couple of things. First off, we were never able to connect to the internet. My wife had a writing deadline and needed to use it while we were up there. The room size was a little deceiving. It was a suite but not a 2 room kind of thing. 4 people would have been pretty tight. The facility was very clean and the staff was nice. The continental breakfast had an attendant that made waffles for you, which was a nice touch. They have 2 sitting areas with fireplaces that were nice and cozy. read more

Went for a wedding and stayed the weekend, which was a nice change of pace from the standard hotel wedding. Overall, I would stay again but only for a wedding. I can't imagine the setup working for a family or group of friends with other strangers in the lodge. Pros: nice front desk staff, good pricing, cute city with fun restaurants and bars nearby (but not walking distance). The lodge is a great place for a wedding - it feels like you're staying in someone's cabin with all of your friends and family. Really home-like. The food was good, and the reception venue was really pretty. We also really liked the bonfire pit outside. The indoor pool area was really nice. Cons: no playground outside for the kids to play on, which would have been so nice to have. Adults would have been able to drink and hang out by the bonfire and the kids could have had somewhere outside nearby to play. No restaurants or bars on site. Huge bummer. And the only walkable place was a pizza parlor that only sold beer and was only open until 10pm. The front desk workers were nice, but they only had one scheduled at a time, so checking in/paying/asking for help/buying a water all took a really long time. No room service, except frozen pizza. Because of the size of the place, the fact that there wasn't a watering hole on site to hang out at, and the limited entertainment options on site, it would have been awkward to stay there and not be a part of the group. There were two couches in the lounge. Very cool for a family/friend vibe of a wedding, but not somewhere I could truly relax with a bunch of strangers. read more

I was incredibly disappointed after my first stay at this hotel. We actually have a cabin down the road so I have sent many relatives there; however, no longer will I be doing so! From start to finish, we had a poor experience. When I called to place my reservation, I was placed on hold 4 times! The associate was not very pleasant or welcoming. When we arrived, she did not give me her attention. There were two other employees behind the desk that she was speaking to instead of being focused on me. She gave me information on the hours for the pool, but when I got down there that night, the posted hours were different. After being in our room for a while, we attempted to call down to ask for a late check out, only to find out the phone didn't work! I then tried to take a shower. I had to stop the shower every minute because the drain was so backed up, I didn't want to stand in other people's filth! My husband walked down there for the associate to be rude and tell him someone would look at it the next day, after we checked out. So, I ended up showering in the pool shower since that one actually worked! I had to haul all my stuff two floors down just because the employee didn't care enough to try to resolve the situation. Each time we walked by the desk and smiled at the employee, she would just have a scowl on her face. Then for breakfast, there were no employees keeping up with the food or cleaning. The hard boiled eggs tasted like rubber. The waffles and fresh fruit were good though. For the most part, the common areas were well maintained and clean. They did have two pairs of snow shoes guests could rent. Overall, HIGHLY disappointed and now I will have to find at least 20 rooms for family for this summer. read more

Party On !!!!!! Beautiful hotel , nicely built. Good central location .....But , the quiet hours are after 12 Midnight !!!!! Families beware !!!!!!! At 11pm the Wedding party in the basement playing smash DJmusic was vibrating our walls so bad we called and complained and management smirked that quiet hours dont start until Midnight . The walls were so vibrating loudly and I could hear the bass so much it was distracting even to conversation at 10:45pm...imagine 2 hours+ of non stop loud bass beat on your walls at 10pm on ! . read more

We went to celebrate a wedding. Lisa, at the front desk was extremely unpleasant. Without warning, Lisa was very rude and dumped a bucket of water on our bonfire provided by the resort. She marched back to the front desk proud of herself, for stomping out the fun of the guests. If that is the policy of the hotel/resort there were a number of better ways to make the guests aware. There were no preventative measures carried out by Lisa/the front desk staff prior to throwing water on the fire. Having a number of people peacefully hanging out at the bonfire- turned into people hanging out in the lobby which was no doubt more disruptive to guests not staying at the resort. Lisa then ordered the paying guest, "You need to go to bed!" At the very least, Lisa requires additional training in customer service. She was incredibly rude and condescending. Initially she refused to give a name as no doubt, she knew her behavior was egregious and irrational. When I inquired her name she responded, "front desk." I understand that is your position, and not your name. What is your name? "Lisa." Thank you. "You're welcome," she replied smugly. As a former customer service agent, I would never treat my clients with the same level of disrespect and disregard as Lisa. She was incredibly rude and really put a damper on the whole celebration. read more

Room was very nice, spacious, comfortable, reasonably priced. Check-in experience was terrible. Front desk agent was no where to be found. Finally, answered page after about 10 minutes. When she showed up, told me I had 2 rooms in my name - a mistake. Couldn't tell me that I wouldn't be charged for two rooms (later resolved) and forgot to give me back my credit card.
