The location is absolutely beautiful. A must see while in Crosslake. The menu has changed for the better. So many great items to pick from. We enjoyed the Dirty Martini flatbread (white sauce, roasted garlic, green onions, and delicious Bleu cheese. The duck wontons were pretty good. The nachos were not hot, the chicken piccata was overcooked, the noodles were really overcooked. The Parmesan walleye was over breaded, not real hot, and I can't even speak about what they called risotto.. Over all too much money for the product, service staff inexperienced, I expected more but it is a tourist trap. read more

We ate here with 2 other couples on a Saturday during the offseason. The food was okay, but quite expensive. Our friend had a very long hair in her barbecue boneless wings. We could see a couple of girls with long ponytails touching the food as they brought it out. We watched the bartender drink beer behind the bar while serving a guest. At Manhattan, you won't be seeing all the boat action like at The Wharf or even at Moonlite Bay, but where else can you order a drink from a Tiki Bar that is right on the water?! When we visited, we sat inside due to weather and service was good but the overall vibe from the staff felt a little guarded (like workers who were overly concerned that they may do something wrong and be reprimanded). -I may be off base, but that's the vibe I sensed. For example, each time that we have visited and observed the Manager, she has seemed visibly irritated. An occasional smile couldn't hurt. Admittingly, this Summer my 'vibe' perception may have also been influenced by once when we came and were told we could not be seated due to not having a reservation. Although we were not a large party, it's understandable they required reservations due to being busy. It's just not as warm or as welcoming as all the other restaurants on the water that do not have that requirement. We returned a week later -with reservations- and were able to enjoy the Steak and Potatoes Special which apparently, they limit to the first 100 each Wednesday. Our steaks were all cooked to our requests. This special still seems like one of the best 'bang for your buck' on the Chain. But be prepared to offset (erase) any savings from your meal when you buy a few drinks. Their target seems to be those who are more fiscally affluent, whereas the other eating establishments are more comfortable for an average joe, like me. Oh, last year I had signed up for their rewards program and received a card...but when I handed them the card to scan this year, I was informed that they no longer have that program. 7pm. Stopped hoping to sit at the Tahki Bar. It was closed earlier for rain and staff didn't return. Ordered drinks outside and was sent inside. Went in to order drinks at bar. Was told very rudely to order outside "cause we are short staffed and I am swamped." There is a better way. Then ignored for over 10 mins. We are here all summer. Visit here ALL summer as we are within walking distance. Guy at Tahki bar is always awesome and that is why we will return. Vodka Cran was good. read more

Disappointed. Saw the New Years menu and jumped at the chance for halibut and duck. Service was slow and sporadic. Seemed troubled by our asking about leaving a side off one entree and putting a side from the other entree. Once we assured the server it was only a "nice to have" the order went in. Food came out with a different server and it went downhill from there. Because the sides were unappealing a simple Caesar salad was ordered. It came out, cold, overdressed and far too big a portion for the plate and cutting to edible size portions was messy. Hint, bigger plate, and quarter the bib lettuce leafs, dressing on the side. The glazed duck was cooked OK, but difficult to cut (gentleman brought a serrated knife). Duck was on asparagus risotto (swapped with the intended mushroom risotto); with a bed of broccoli spears. Halibut was undercooked, watery and a poor cut, with waste. Barely any lemon verblanc sauce. Again the sides with this entree were unappealing and not consumed. We asked if there was any bread and got two minuscule, less than fresh rolls (again a different server) that came with an odd spread combination of something pungent and sweet. Dessert was a very pedestrian, mass produced flourless chocolate lava cake with a mediocre (mass produced) vanilla ice cream. The duck entree was enough to ask for a container (twice) and waiting far longer than necessary between our primary server's visits to our table. Our "other" server hustled. Value was lacking and service wanting. It'll be a while before we return, there are just too many other great places to visit. PS The Manager response omits a customer first approach. Also the response skirts the fact the server wasn't at the table enough to complain or question. Had to request a container twice as well as the dessert menu and we still left a 20% tip. Several years between visits and reviews with no discernible improvement. Manager's correct, we won't come back and we'll be sure all our Crosslake, neighbors, friends and acquaintances read this edited/updated review & business response. read more

Manhattan's absolutely stinks. Despite what you may derive from this post I am not a restaurant diva. We came in with our family at 11:30AM before it was busy. Our group had 6 adults and 4 kids. We waited patiently and kindly for our food for 90 minutes, periodically checking in with the waitress knowing a mistake had likely been made since tables seated after us were getting their food. I understand and respect they may have been short-staffed over the 4th of July (this was Saturday the 6th) and we were prepared to wait. After waiting some time, half of the food came out. We communicated the mistake and said we were ready to wait for the rest of the food because we had hungry and restless kids. We waited another hour and the food never came. Finally, the waitress admitted she forgot to put it in after multiple conversations and it would be another 30 minutes. This was a bit baffling considering we had discussed what was missing and the timeline multiple times. We kindly asked for the bill and they communicated they would comp two beers. They brought the bill and it was incorrect and we were charged for the food that never arrived. The manager came to our table and started giving us attitude which we did not appreciate. Saying things like "well, you got free beer." I appreciate the free beers but don't want handouts in exchange for a burden. I prefer to receive the goods and services that I paid for, especially in the restaurant industry in a small town when I know times have been tough. All in all, it was a 2-3 hour debacle while we waited with hungry kids. The lack of accountability and attitude by the staff was not appreciated. The only reason this review has one star is because Yelp doesn't give a zero star option. RESPONSE to Kista: Kista this is the exact same gaslighting you gave us when we were at the restaurant. We came in at 11:30AM well before the rain and I waited for THREE HOURS for tacos that never came. If you couldn't serve the table because we didn't make a reservation, no worries, don't seat us and we would have happily moved on. read more

So I'm a Ribeye guy. But was really feeling a steak. They were out of the Prime Rib and so I got the NY Strip. No joke, top 10 steaks of my life. The crust was perfect, it was a perfect medium, and the butter just elevated the flavor. Highly recommend. Didn't have the sides so I can't attest to those. But the steak was phenomenal. read more

The four of us each had something different- chicken Caesar salad, duck wontons, summer salad, and the truffle flat bread. Everything was great! Want to experience Darrell's cocktails at the best tiki bar in the Crosslake area? Nailed it! Come here for the views, the atmosphere, and the up north style ambiance. If you're coming to eat and want to sit down, either call ahead to get a table especially in summer months or be prepared to wait or get turned away. They can really only take so many tables in a day/night and aren't afraid to turn people away if they have to. Some times service can be very slow here but if you're patient the drinks are great and the food is quite tasty. I can't rave enough about the tiki bar and lake front seating area. This is a must stop place if you are up north and want a drink. Darrells margaritas and bloody Mary's will send you on your way for a fun day in the sun or a nap - ha! Up north for the holiday weekend and stopped by this place. Great view of the lake (Crosslake area).l and and nice patio eating space that joins to the boat dock. They only having seating outdoors which is nice however you can wait inside for a seat and they have a bar you can order from while you wait. The waitress was very nice and funny and helped with the selection I made. I started with an old fashion which was made very well 4.5 out of 5 stars for the drink. I wasn't too hungry so I asked if I can just have risotto which I saw was a side dish with various meals, and a side salad. The waitress said of course and I ordered the bourbon and mushroom risotto and salad. My friend ordered walleye with mashed potatoes and asparagus.While waiting for the food I sipped on the lovely old fashion and took in the view. The food arrived and the risotto looked kind of pale and didn't have mushrooms. Asked the waitress about it, she checked and found that indeed they sent out just plain risotto. It was good but not what I ordered. She placed another order for the right kind. I tasted the walleye and me and my friend both agreed that it was nothing to write home about kind of plain. The correct bourbon and mushroom risotto came out and it was even better than the plain version. Overall the food was hit and miss. This is the closest you will get to fine dining in this area. The food is amazing especially compared to all the basic deep fried joints around here. They actually have Chefs that take pride in their food. It's more expensive than other places, but that's because the quality is just far superior. Very disappointed, I love prime rib, my cut of prime rib was 40% fat. We also had six couples in our group i asked for separate checks before ordering and I was told that we had too many people in our party to have the check split so we had to labor at splitting up the check. Time again for the annual "Boys Weekend" on Rush Lake and our cross-lakes pontoon ride to MBC. As in the last time I posted an updated review it's sad to see the overall average slip even further...now at about 2.0 overall. I know they can do better - I've seen it in some past years and am happy to say that they're back in the game for me!! Last Saturday's visit was probably the best since the first one six years ago. The food and service were fantastic - our waitress Ireland was superb - and I heard many "best ever" comments coming from our group of twelve. Hubby had a chicken with orecchiette pasta dish that he really liked. I had a Parmesan crusted walleye and it was outstanding. Someone had prime rib and raved about it. Cocktails were fantastic and made right! Overall a superb trip and it makes me realize why it sometimes pays off and try again. I'm looking forward to next years visit!! read more

I strongly recommend the walleye with Parmesan & almond crust and wild rice for dinner, which is what I always order. But recently a group of friends and I went to Manhattan and shared orders around the table, and I thought everything was delicious. The paella was a favorite. The restaurant works for a girls' night out, a big family dinner, or a romantic date - that's why it's my favorite. On a family vacation, we always go out for a special dinner. This year we choose Manhattan Beach. Big mistake. On a beautiful summer evening, we ordered a variety of items - unfortunately only 2 of six entrees were edible. My duck was so overcooked, it was nearly impossible to cut and virtually inedible. My girlfriend's pasta dish was so undercooked that the noodles were crisp and weird. A couple of ladies ordered the walleye. Cold and flavorless. The boys ordered the ribs - they were pretty good and the cajun steak bites were actually real good. The staff tried to rectify the problems, but a substitute tacos weren't much better and the glass of wine I ordered to calm my nerves never showed. A sorry way to spend what is usually a wonderful family night. Oh well, you live and hopefully learn do not do that again. read more

The pretzels is awesome! Fluffy on the inside and the queso cheese is great, the sweet cream cheese is on another level too. The option of sweet or savory on the pretzel is amazing! The loaded tots are good too, the tots are good on their own but when you add the seasoned sour cream it tastes even better! Would definitely go back for those. The Nashville chicken sandwich was good, but gave my brother stomach issues the next day. I don't know if it was the sandwich but it did happen. All around would recommend if you want a place to go on the lake, beware it is a little pricey. read more

I ordered the NY strip steak and it tasted like it had been packaged in a tenderizing solution. I asked for medium rare, but it came way over-cooked like medium well. The mashed potatoes were tasteless and the asparagus was dry and chewy. The service was very good and the view of the lake is beautiful. This review is on the service only, because we didn't stay for food. We made reservations for 7:00 on a Sunday night. First of all, the hostess had to set up a table for us-shouldn't they have know we were coming? It was not all that busy when we arrived, the dining room was about half full. We waited over 15 minutes and no one even came over to say hello or take our drink order. We finally just left and went to another restaurant in the area. If I am paying similar prices to restaurants in the Twin Cities, I expect comparable service. Save your money and eat at the Wharf instead! I really wanted to like this place. I have been going with friends and family to Manhattan Beach for a few years and loved it each and every time. Loved it so much that last year we decided to get married here. The food is really as good as it gets, especially when accompanied by an amazing view that is offered overlooking Trout Lake. Some of these reviews on here simply put are obnoxious and really lack standard expectations. The staff is always extremely friendly and accommodating, not to mention always go above and beyond to make sure we have always been taken care of. There are a few goodies on the menu that are recommended, but frankly it is ALL good and think people should explore something new. Special shout out to the Crystal who for anyone around knows that she is outstanding at what she does and is an extremely valuable asset to the organization they have. First of all,... The best restaurant to watch the sunset! My husband had the New York strip special which was excellent! I had the Parmesan walleye which was very good as well, the only exception being I wish they had just regular wild rice not the wild rice au gratin which is a bit gummy. Our server, Sarah, was awesome! Very attentive. I totally agree with the previous review in that Fred, the manager, wears many hats, continually goes from table to table ensuring that all guests have a positive experience.
