There was a group of five of us. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. The ambience is a little dark but fine. I had the cod. Others at the table had pasta. We were all satisfied with the entrees. Now, anyone who knows me knows I am all about the dessert. Banana lava cake. Sounded interesting. Big disappointment. The cake had just been taken out of the freezer; parts of it were cold. There was no lava whatsoever anywhere. That a still partially frozen dessert (that's supposed to be at least warm) would be served is enough for me to not go back. In addition, the cake was dry and not flavorful. We originally went to Rockwater Grill & Bar two doors down, but were aggravated by the amount of noise there + lack of ambiance, so we decided to dine here -- oh, what a breath of fresh air as ambiance here is quiet, classy even. We began with the vegan spinach dip, which was made of cashews, spinach, artichoke, miso, vegan mozarella + tortilla chips. This was DELICIOUS. You forget that it's even vegan as it packed so much flavor! We were, however, disappointed that the chips were store-bought. For $24.75 CAD, you'd think it'd be housemade corn tortilla chips. Definitely overpriced for an appetizer. We also had the poutine (beef gravy), because when in Canada. This Quebecois dish is delicious when made right. Though the gravy here was flavorful, we found most of the fries soggy and the cheese curds could have been squeakier. We rate this 7/10. We ordered the Bistro Burger -- solid, tasty, and a small order of the La Brea Salad, which was made of arugula, pomegranate, roasted heirloom carrots, toasted pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, dill sour cream + house vinagrette. It was large for a "small," and was perfect to share. Though presentation was nice, the house vinaigrette was too thick and heavy-handed. Also, the dill sour cream did nothing to enhance the dish as it lacked flavor. For drinks, we ordered the Bow + Arrow cocktail -- mezcal, bourbon, pineapple, lime + mint, as well as Icefields Pale Ale by local Whitetooth Brewing Co. right here in Golden. The Pale Ale was quite good. The Bow + Arrow cocktail, however, tasted like a pineapple margarita. It wasn't bad, but we certainly did not taste any mezcal and we'd been to Oaxaca, Mexico 5X where we fell in love with mezcal there. Went for New Year's Eve, ordered the seasonal salad, and the fish special that evening (tuna). As well as two cocktails, that were made well. Both dishes were phenomenally done and creative, the server was friendly and informed, and we got our food quickly. At the time they had a very limited white wine collection. Travelling through the Rocky Mountains today (July 7th) & decided to stop in for a sandwich as they are highly recommend on Reddit. When we entered the restaurant, a gentleman was at the bar/seating area asking for his bill, as he had not received his & had been waiting quite some time. We started looking at the menu that was laying on the bar, and were eventually greeted. She asked if we were dining in to which we said no, we would like to take our sandwiches to go (as we were still travelling to our destination) she then said she would have to ask the kitchen staff if that was allowed. Just after she walked away, another gentleman came up & told them (another server had came inside from the patio) to forget about bringing the beer he had ordered awhile ago, as it had still not arrived at his table. The server immediately said I'll get it for you right now and he polietly declined, saying he was going elsewhere. Once the customer had left the restaurant, the one server turned to the other girl and said "That's just a blessing in disguise" to which she agreed with, and went on about how it "had only been 5 minutes that he waited". We turned around and walked out. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if they are that comfortable to complain about previous customers in front of other customers. The flavor was great, but it was overwhelmed by the number of sliced jalapeños mixed in. I had quite a pile as I started picking them out to reduce their impact to the dish. My father got the steak salad. I got the market pasta and my husband got the burger. My pasta was good but a tad heavy for summer. I got the Pom Punch and it was very good. The waitress was friendly. We finished the meal with the crème brulee. The interior of the place is nice. They have outside seating as well. The only thing is the entire meal took about two hours.
