My friend and I came here Sunday of a long weekend (Labor Day), around 11:30. There were 2-3 groups in front of us in line, but the wait wasn't too bad, and we got seated after 15 minutes. We both had a phenomenal dining experience here. My friend got the veggie breakfast burrito ($14.25), which according to him was really good. I was starving and wanted something hearty, so I decided to go with the steak and eggs ($16.25). It's been a long time since I've had steak, but the one here was excellent especially for the price. I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and it was very tender. It also had enough salt and other spices for flavor. I don't know if it was because I was really enjoying the steak or not, but even the potatoes here tasted better than normal. The kitchen works quickly too; our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. I also noticed the other tables were getting turned around quickly as well. We will be back next time we drive past Golden. read more

I like supporting locally owned and operated establishments so would like to give a higher rating, but cannot. The entry needs a bit tidying up to be welcoming, but the inside is kind of cute and clean enough. We were greeted and seated promptly. I had the Big Bend Hot Cereal, which was okay. Sorry to say, I didn't feel safe adding the fresh fruit cup. Hubby had the pulled pork breakfast sandwich, which was very good. The major disappointment was the coffee. It was super super weak. There was no saving it, and for a breakfast place weak coffee is a deal breaker. It wasn't like Denny's weak, it was almost-water weak. Maybe just an off pot; but it was bad. read more

This is your classic diner / greasy spoon café. We came for breakfast one morning before hitting the road to go out on some hiking and exploring adventures. This is a "nothing fancy" type of spot. I ordered a breakfast of corned beef hash with a side pancake. My husband ordered the Texas chorizo burrito. The food came out fast and the service was friendly. it was exactly what you would expect from a diner like this. Big portions, fair price, quick food. My husband loved that they gave him an entire pot of coffee to himself. A "No-frills" café; just food to fuel your day. read more

We went to the one in Revelstoke earlier in the week and found the experience pretty decent with one issue. So we decided to try this one today. Total mistake. Food had no flavour. 4 entrees and the best thing was the toast. The bathroom was disgusting. No one has cleaned it in some time. Service was so so. Not very attentive but still ok. read more

Service was good with some quirky waitstaff fashion (a dress depicting mass murderers.) Yet, very friendly. Restaurant needs a good cleaning around window sills and bathrooms. On the way to Calgary from Vancouver and stopped here. It was delicious.. we had the frittata, hollandaise sauce, pancakes, delicious sausage and poached eggs. Great presentation. What We Ordered -Open Face Homemade Meatloaf Sandwich with a side of Chicken Tortilla Soup - Side Order of French Toast - Corn Beef Hash with 2 Eggs and Toast Extremely surprised at how good, flavorful and moist the Homemade Meatloaf Sandwich was. I didn't have high expectations for a small restaurant in Golden. Don't judge a book by it's cover! However, I do not recommend the Chicken Tortilla Soup or French Toast. It is average at best. My sister enjoyed her Corn Beef Hash, but I felt that the ratio of potato and corn beef was super off. Although the chunks of corn beef were larger than usual, the amount they gave was less compared to potatoes. They have a self service water and coffee station (not free) and huge shelves full of hot sauces! read more

Visited this place on my passing through and needed some breakfast. This place was great, didn't get a huge look inside but seemed really cute, we sat outside in the sun. The food and drinks were awesome and priced great. The waitress was friendly. The only thing I saw was the place had lots of flies inside. Other than that I'd go back forsure. read more

The decor was decorated with quotes and funny signs along with old pictures of golden. The atmosphere has a hippie mountain feel to it. The waiter and waitress both were friendly and fast with greeting us. Once we decided on the food I had a Mexican burrito, though I asked for a veggie burrito! (thankfully I was paying attention to the menu and remember the few selections of burrito.) I was hungry and thought why not just eat it anyways without saying anything, it looked appealing on menu and now in front of me the cub potatoes were nicely seasoned with Cajun and seasoning salt. I wasn't disappointed with Mexican burrito it was stuffed with veggies and the chicken was seasoned. Fair portion of black beans and salsa sauce and sour cream on top My daughter order a California Benny ( avocado spinach and she got it on a bagel) she likes spinach but one of them had a fair bit. And the hollandaise sauce was grainy ( pre made powder.) Highly doubt it was from scratch if it was it wasn't cooked long enough. Prices are pretty high for mediocre food. The French toast was good but served with table syrup. The chorizo bowl was a drab beige colour. The whole thing tasted the same and quite frankly was somewhat nauseating to look at. (Not sure if the eggs were fully cooked as there seemed to be a beige sauce as well. Couldn't really find the chorizo in it. There was no contrasting colours or flavours at all to break up the pallet. Bread was good though read more

This restaurant was a huge disappointment. The food was only so-so and wouldn't rate a review at all as I don't like to leave negative reviews but the service was horrible. The female waitress was unwelcoming, rude and reluctant to seat us. She placed several barriers in our path (wouldn't seat us together, required separate checks, no high chair for an hour) but finally seated us with a sour attitude. She didn't get any better as she was snappish and rude the entire meal. I can do so-so food but a wait staff with a bad attitude is really awful. There are several smart ass and misogynistic signs in their decor....perhaps this attitude is rubbing off on the staff. P.S. the cheese quesadilla we ordered for our 15 month old had onions and jalapeño peppers on it. Unbelievable. read more

Excellent hearty breakfast place! Our group of 4 came in on a Saturday morning before a long hike and the Big Bend Cafe definitely fueled us up! The coffee and water here are self serve so you have to walk up to the drinks corner to get the drinks. This made the place feel very homey. We ordered avocado and Brie frittata, 3 sausage bowl, hobo breakfast platter and eggs Benedict. The frittata and the sausage bowl were definitely the best. We definitely wished that we knew the eggs in the hobo breakfast platter's are not cooked in a omelette style. If you are looking for toppings mixed in with the egg definitely try the frittata instead. Overall m, we had a positive experience here. Definitely will be back for future visits. read more

Big Bend is exactly what you would (or should) want out of a mountain-town breakfast joint. Mountain-man sized portions, hearty choices and a boatload of unnecessarily masochistic hot sauces to wake you up and get you going. Many of the dishes feature chorizo, including the chipotle and chorizo eggs benedict. Tastefully spicy (not over the top), served on a bagel instead of an english muffin, with poached eggs (cooked to your liking) from one of those poaching molds that your mom (or at least MY mom) used to make. Charming. Served with a good sized side of "pan fries." The bacon is fantastic (flavourful, thick, chewy), but the pancakes are to die for. Made with whole (or multi)-grain flour, they a deliciously wheaty, filling mouthful. My only regret is that they do not come with real maple syrup. Make that a part of a plate and you have created some of my favorite pancakes I can think of. Seriously, I could only think of wanting to eat more of these for the entire rest of the day. The thing that really make Big Bend unique is wall of hot sauce. From a few of their own homemade sauces, to tongue-scathing classics like Dave's Insanity, they have a large selection to please every tastebud and scoville tolerance. Great breakfast! Was on the way through Golden (Sask to BC... stayed overnight in Golden), and the 'free breakfast' at the hotel just wasn't going to cut it. The wife and I enjoyed the meal, and the atmosphere... looking around at the memorabilia, and out the window towards the mountains. Half of bottles are empty and dirty on outside from spilled sauce or who knows what. It also sucks that this place doesn't won't to share their wi-fi with customers. We stopped in there for a very late lunch but both ended up getting frittatas. I was skeptical as I added sausage to my "veggie" as usually adding extra is a reason to go skimpy on the serving and then add $$. This was not the case. Loaded frittatas!!! Served hot and tasty.
