Since our first choice of restaurant was full on a Saturday, we luck out going here for dinner. Gave us option to dine in or out. We choose outdoor dining. The river was relaxing. Hear the birds chirping. They have a good selection meals in the menu plus game meats. The crispy duck salad was delicious with great dressing. My son choose the Turkey BLT- surprisingly moist. I choose the bumbleberry bbq ribs. They got me at bumbleberry which I found out what it is. It's a mixture of three berries. The ribs fell off the bone. The vegetables are roasted perfectly. Menu looked great. There is indoor seating with a large bar as you enter. They have an upper deck and lower outdoor patio that looks out over the river. There is an area with a few tables in the front facing a busy street and the parking lot. We asked that since no one was sitting in the nicer lower patio area facing the bridge, limited view of the river, could we sit there. ANSWER.. NO. No explanation other than that is their policy. A very unique restaurant located in downtown Golden BC. We stopped by for a cosy dinner and find the cuisine to be quite exquisite and original. Burger was great. Jamaican jerk sandwich was okay. Service was great and the patio was nice. A little pricey ($100 for two people).

We happened upon The Island Restaurant, and being from Maui we were intrigued by what the "island" food would be. The view is pretty great here. I do wish there were fewer plants blocking the view of the water and maybe some planted next to the lower level patio to block the view of the road, cars, and parking lot. Our server acted annoyed that we were there. I was bringing up the rear of our group and caught her rolling her eyes about the the choice of table. She didn't know what the special was for the evening because it isn't served until after 5. It was 15 minutes till when we sat down. She took our drink orders, was gone for some time. When she came back with drinks and to take out food order it was now after 5, but she still hadn't found out what the special would be. The food was decent. We came here on thanksgiving, and had a great dinner! I had the thanksgiving dinner which was very flavorful and a large portion. Reminded me of home, extremely delicious. Other things ordered were the chicken spring rolls which had great flavor and came with a wonderful small salad. Traditional burger was well made. The black pepper chicken pasta was phenomenal! The bread and the pasta are made in house and fresh, and you could truly tell. Overall, we would love to come back here. Great atmosphere, friendly people, and amazing food. read more

Fun friendly staff helped our loud group of twelve get the best items in the menu. They put up with all of our requests without complaining and we had such a fun time with Wade as our server and Kat helping, would certainly go back and try some of the other dishes. Stopped here on our way home to fairmont from Kamloops. Only picked this restaurant as they are dog friendly on their bottom patio. Even though no one was sitting on the side bottom patio we had to sit in front where all the cars and trucks were parked. No big deal except for a few people who would sit in front also and smoke. Gross. Anyways on to the menu and food. Way overpriced for everything. Had the feature soup. Carrot and dill. Not puréed no flavour. Julienne carrots. Very strange soup with dill weed from the jar not fresh. Not good. Ordered the spring rolls. 3 for $21. Really? Greasy. No dipping sauce. Came with a sad salad that didn't look fresh. Maybe worth $10 at best. Ordered yam fries. Ok. But served with ketchup and ranch sauce. No homemade sauce. Ordered a child's pasta with butter and they just threw on huge chunks of Parmesan petals that didn't even melt. $10. Crazy. Service was good. Nice girl serving us. Would not return here based on food quality and prices for a lunch menu. Huge pass in my opinion. Can't believe they have 4 stars. read more

A beautiful dinner on the deck! This place was full but service was excellent. Good beer selection. I had a pesto chicken pizza and it was delicious: just the right balance of toppings. The wasps were out of control and maybe the manager should just close the patio until it gets better? The food was so bad though. The guys ordered burgers and fries last time they were there and they were incredibly memorable the last time so that's why we came back. This time they were completely over cooked. I ordered the enchiladas featured Mexican special which were so burnt I could snap them in half. No enchilada sauce to be seen because I thought it was burnt. They remade the order which was softer and at least edible, but that's when I realized - no sauce! We went to brunch here on Canada Day. We sat on the upper patio. The service was very friendly. Especially when you consider they were working on a national holiday. Everything we ordered was good. It is a nice relaxing patio. The bugs were a bit bad but that seems to be everywhere in Golden not just this restaurant. I enjoyed the Sangria. If back in the area would eat here again. read more

Not great. Black Pepper Fettuccine, Island pizza, and the recommended Maple Creme Brulee were all bad. Return to the kitchen bad, made poorly. The fettuccine was super bland, the pizza had way too much pesto and kalamata olives, it was overwhelming. The creme brulee was gross. Even the Caesar wasn't great, no rim, not much flavor. I was driving back to Edmonton from Kelowna with my family and we stopped in Golden for the night. Driving my this restaurant my grandmother thought we should stop in. So glad we did. The Island was a really nice restaurant, in a really nice log cabin. We sat inside, but I think the views outside would be pretty nice. I ordered the potato soup with lovage and the Aussie burger. I'd never even heard of lovage before (totally not a plant person) so this soup was a real surprise for my tastebuds, almost has a celery type of flavour to it. The potato soup was completely different from any potato soup I've had before, and I loved it. The Aussie burger I decided to get because it had a fried egg on it, and I'd tried a fried egg on a burger before and enjoyed it. The burger also had bacon, pineapple, cheese and beets (but not necessarily in that order). I should make mention that I hate beets, but I decided to give this burger a shot (without asking them to hold the beets). Survey says this burger (beets and all) was fantastic. Such a medley of flavours, from the salty crispy bacon to the sweet pineapple, to the creaminess of the egg and the earthy taste of the beets. I think it helps that the beets were cut up into long spirals, so you never got a huge chuck of beet, but just the right amount with every price. The desserts looked so good, especially the creme brulee, but by this time I was full. The food was delicious, and our server was very friendly, and helpful making recommendations. Everyone else in my family seemed to enjoy what they had. The Island is a bit out of the way for me, but if I'm ever driving out to BC I'll make sure to stop here again. read more

We found this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It was well worth it! The food was fantastic and the wait staff were super friendly and gave great service. It's not cheap by any means but I wouldn't say it is super expensive either. Getting there is a bit tricky as it is on a short stretch of road between two bridges and visibility isn't great, so your best bet is to be going south on 95 and turn right into the place. Great deck location on the Kicking Horse River. Service was so-so. We were seated, told the specials, and given water, but then waited a while for our drink order to be taken. Watched as another table that came after us, have their food order taken. Hubs ordered the Mulgawtny Stew, I ordered the Coconut curry bowl, son ordered steak sandwich, daughter ordered the chicken blt. Waited a while and then a waitress came out to tell hubs that the stew just sold out....we had been waiting 30 mins. He ordered the steak sandwich as its replacement. Food came, the steak sandwich was not a sandwich, it was a piece of steak on a toasted slice of dough dough. The steak was good, but why describe it as a sandwich when there's no way to pick it up like a sandwich? My coconut curry bowl was extremely bland....I had to salt the heck out of the dish. Waitress was friendly at the end and chatted about what we were doing and where to walk. They did comp us 20% off the bill because of the running out of the stew. read more

We found this spectacular jewel of a restaurant on the last day of our stay in Golden. Absolutely wonderful food, service and ambience. My wife enjoyed a 10" personal bacon pizza (withheld the pineapple by choice) - it was the best pizza she ever had! I had the apparently popular Buddha Bowl - chickpeas, roasted veggies, avocado, sprouts and more. Presented looking like a present with a sprouts bow on top. Olivia, our server, covered all the tables on the first floor - with ease, attention, great humor and grace. I urge every traveler through Golden to eat at this fine restaurant. read more

Reading the reviews i was somewhat worried, but because we stumbled across this little log house, we thought were would try it. Local dark beer is surprisingly tasty, ordered what we thought read, sliced buffalo turned out to be shredded/chunked buffalo( and a little chewy, as buffalo can be). But the mushroom brandy sauce made the meat very tasty. Vegetables were nice and firm with an enjoyable spice. But the dish looked more like a stew then what i was expecting. Maybe the name of the dish---"Geschnetzeltes" means 'stew'? Overall and nice rustic/ grandma's dining room atmosphere, makes the meal that much mare enjoyable. But desert seems to take forever, i wrote this and went searching for a menu( so i could properly spell the dish name), and still have not received our desert, 15 minutes. Anyway. I hope it is worth the wait, as my travelling bud, said we could have been in Revelstoke by now. read more

An inviting new log restaurant in the downtown area, at the intersection of the river, and the road to the municipal campground and outdoor pool. We were welcomed upon arrival by a cheerful young lady, and it was a bonus that she then became our server. I think her name was Jocelyn. She always had a smile on her face which speaks volumes. Hubby had the Black Pepper Fettucini with Chicken for $16. It was the right portion, good flavors spiced nicely. One son had a $16 Steak Sandwich which was dry; the other son had a $12 Island Burger which he said sufficed. He also had a fish chowder soup which was somewhat gluey-ish but otherwise had pleasant flavours. The menu offered bumbleberry perogies for dessert which sounded yummy and different. We stopped in June on our way to the okanagan and loved the looks of the place and came up to the patio. Enjoyed a cold craft beer before we had their Mexican specials. It was awful!!
