We took the girls from our church youth group here for two days and camped on site. We all had a wonderful time! Our camp was right on on the water. The campgrounds were well organized, the bathrooms were always clean, and the showers were hot! The food was really excellent, too! I highly recommend doing a 2 day float trip at least! We did South Fork Lowers and Middle Fork. It was a great combination of exciting rapids and relaxing float. Great for families or groups. I want to go again! read more

We stayed overnight at the Spanish Moss #1 campsite. We were greeted by the camp hosts, a nice married couple, upon arrival. They took us to our site and got several extension cords to help us get power to our pump up mattress at our campsite. They were very informative about dinner/breakfast, restrooms, other areas throughout the campsite and some of the local areas as well. The next morning we met with our driver Phillip, who told us all about the trip we were about to embark on. We later found out that this was a family owned company and Phillip is the son that will be taking over. The guide on our Little Rafters trip, Joe, was really awesome. He told us a lot about the area, and made our rafting trip memorable. The grounds are really clean and well maintained. The food and all of the staff were great. They have waterproof disposable cameras for cheap at the camp store. We'll definitely be back to camp and/or raft in the near future. read more

The camp sites are all along the South Fork of the American River, beautiful and peaceful in the evening after a full day of rafting. We had two large tents for our kids and my husband and I rented one of the canvas cabin tents. We were very comfortable and had plenty of space. Our guide was Menya. He was wonderful, we felt very safe rafting with him. He was extremely knowledgeable and had great skill! If you are contemplating a rafting/camping trip this one is an A+!! read more

I've been using this company since 2010... and I don't think I'll ever use any other rafting trip ... ever. 2010: full day of South Fork (Guide: Mike) Mike was awesome! He was friendly and definitely catered to our group... well mostly me because some areas of the river got a little boring so he umped it up a bit with actions such as going backwards heading through a rapid... that was so awesome! 2011: Merced (Guide: Vince) - It was definitely a memorable trip... Vince knew I was celebrating my birthday so I got to do the rodeo on the raft heading onto one of the rapid that was like a rodeo (gosh I hope that made sense!) There was never a boring moment with Merced! 2012: Middlefork (Guide: Mike (the one who wears red)) - Mike kept us alert with his numerous jokes... and definitely gave us tips before heading onto any rapids...as well as historical facts along the way. I'm definitely looking forward to 2013... North Fork... you are mine (if the Mother Nature allows us to be!) Folks... they might be expensive but they're awesome. They are the first people onto the water to avoid / beat the other rafting companies. Trust me, I've used them all three times and all three times... we were always the first group onto the water and first out in the afternoon, making it quicker and faster to avoid the crowds in general. For lunch, they have a buffet like style to make sandwichs ... but I often bring my own lunch since I don't really eat sandwichs... so I often just get the sweets / cookies. Overall... try them out! A group of my friends and I booked this trip to celebrate my 50th birthday. We laughed the whole day and had an amazing time. From before we went Janine was wonderfully responsive and made linking our friends' reservations with ours so we could be on the same raft. The camp store has adorable and useful products - like sunglasses and cords so you don't lose them! Our guide Emily was so fun and calm and just a pleasure to hang out. This company was great! We did a 10-person, 2 night/2.5 day raft trip, 6/29-7/1. The campsite we got was gigantic for a 10 person party..I'm pretty sure they let us use two sites, which was awesome, because then we all got to spread out our tents a bit more. They never bothered us about our staying up late or drinking, which we did both of, and they always came down to tell us about meet times, photos, and a heads up on dinner being in 5 minutes. The food was good and the staff was very friendly/helpful. Lunches on the river are basic sandwiches, usually turkey, with fruit(watermelon), chips(Lays), but also oreos! w/ water to drink. But basic lunches are best when going crazy on the class 4 rapids of the Middle Fork of the American! Our guide was the same both days, and he was Italian. Michele, I believe, was his name, and that was awesome not only for all the stories he had about traveling but because I finally got to speak italian with someone. So that was legit. I personally got to sit shotgun on day 2 in the van and got to have awesome conversations with the van driver. He was fun to talk to and was a really nice guy who's been with the company for like 8 years, so he had fun stories to tell. Recently did the middle fork with this company. My first time on the middle fork and my dad's first time whitewater rafting altogether. We had a great time and am very happy with the company and the guides. Professional, responsible, and friendly group of staff. They even have a friendly pool where the guides have to put in money every time someone from their boat falls in the water involuntarily lol. I found them through Google. Booking and paying through the website was pain free. The website also looked legit with some money invested in the web design (Yeah I care about that kind of stuff). My dear friend setup a day of fun in the water for my bachelor party weekend. It was everything I could have wanted. Our group - composed of 8 grown men - met the folks at Whitewater Excitement on a beautiful Saturday morning in June. It was a little hot, so a perfect day to spend on a river. The employees were very upbeat and attentive. They gave us a thorough explanation of the equipment and the safety guidelines. It was easy to understand for everyone there (should note that other rafts had children aboard). Things can get hairy in the rapids, so all safety reminders are welcome. After a fun couple hours of exciting rapids (Class 3) and chill areas to swim in, we came to the last few rapids of the day. The very last one was called Hospital Bar: featuring the biggest drop on the trip. Well, guess who lost his footing and fell into the water? Yup: ME! Luckily, I remembered the safety information given by our guides: keep yourself horizontal! I let the river take me for a few moments and then gently swam back to the raft where my buddies pulled me back in. It was actually pretty fun :) All in all, it's a great memory that I hope to repeat on subsequent trips (except the falling off the raft part). Could write a novel about how good the experience was so will try to keep to the highlights: 1. booking for our group was super easy. everything was done electronically and individually so one person didn't have to front the money and then collect from everyone. 2. they have packages but were able to work with us based on our needs and the rates were super reasonable. 3. the people were nothing but awesome. our host Angel, norm who cooked for us in the morning and at night, jimmy and ann our guides and the young guy that cooked the awesome brownies for desert! 4. the rafting trip was great. got to do all the fun stuff like swimming the rapids and surfing the boat. 5. the camping location is great and clean and for all those considering white water rafting, remember that eventhough we're in a dought, there is still water for rafting! read more

I camped/river rafted with a group of about 45 people last may. Camping: The campsite was clean and right by the river which was gorgeous. The staff provided us with with a few meals. The best one was definitely the BBQ dinner after river rafting. The other meals were a bit lacking/disappointing. The facilities were clean and well kept. There is not electricity available at the campsite. There is just one power center not too far away, but a few people in my group did have their phone chargers stolen. But either way it's camping so the electricity thing is more of a heads up than a complaint! Rafting: This was my first experience river rafting and their well trained/experienced staff made it a fun and safe adventure. Things can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing here, but our instructor made us feel confident and safe the entire time. Overall I'd say this is an excellent choice for inexperienced rafters, and would still be fun for someone with experience. I'd definitely do it again. read more

I had the best time with WWE this past weekend. We were a big group of 20+ and we camped/ went on the middle fork rafting trip for one day. Camping: The site is so beautiful, clean and well thought out. my mom and I actually did a site visit a few weeks prior and was greeted right away by multiple friendly staff. We got to camp right on the river - Spanish meadows ( I think) which was cool bc you can swim/ fish during the day and look at other rafters come down the south end. The site was also very well kept and clean. We reserved 2 cabins and about 6 tents in our group space . There were picnic tables, recycle/ trash bins . I also love the genius idea of the light-weight wheel barrels to help load your stuff to camp. There were multiple bathrooms and showers on site. FOOD: For camping - We reserved dinner for one night and breakfast the following morning. the food was good and the chef was very accommodating ! My fav was breakfast - pancakes , Avocado cheese eggs, fresh fruit, and so much more ! Lunch on the rafting trip- The staff set up a nice lunch spread on the river bank. There was a huge sandwich station - with all the good stuff ( no skimpy sandwiches at all). They even packed my vegan sandwich "meat" so I can have my protein on the trip. White water rafting: Honestly, I don't think we could've asked for a better experience. The company is so organized with their timing and has the process down. The staff is so professional and they made you feel safe on the water while having fun. All in all our group can not wait to go back, WWE is truly a gem! We had Isaiah and Gary and we loved both of them. They were funny, friendly, informative and we felt safe with them. We would definitely request them again if we went back. They need raises and praises!! Food was amazing and we were so pleasantly surprised by the quality. We felt the owner really cared about what he was doing and his guests. Clean campsite. Clean bathrooms. Janine was great in the booking process. So patient with my 1000 phone calls and questions. The only thing I would suggest is trash pickup each night instead of after we left. We learned to tie bags at night after the first night the can was tipped by a critter or a ghost. A second set of bathrooms would have been nice at the back side of the camp but we also recognize the cost and labor associated with that. Night time potty runs to front of the camp were scary. Wow, what a great experience with this company! To start, Janine was extremely helpful when I was trying to book this trip for my boyfriend and I. It was also convenient because I was able to book everything from the trip itself to our camping site, through email with her! She made it a very pleasant, and easy experience to book. So we arrived late to our campsite around 9pm and the camp host was very friendly! She lives in an RV on site and we were told to knock on her door and she will help us. When we knocked she was very excited to see us. She walked us down to our campsite, which by the way is beautiful and right on the river! You can hear the rapids at night which is very peaceful. She also showed us where to meet in the morning and where all the restrooms were located. They also offer wheelbarrows to take your stuff from the parking lot to the site. The next morning was our trip and we rafted the whole river. All the staff members are extremely nice! We had a guide by the name of Menya. He was AMAZING. My boyfriend and I both agreed that he made the trip for us. He is very knowledgeable in rafting, and full of energy which made the rafting trip much more fun! The three of us were the only ones in our raft so he took us down other rapids that weren't the "marked" way and just made the whole thing very fun. The half way point was back to camp where they had a great lunch spread for us! We then got back on the river with Menya and a family of 3. The second half of the river was also very, very fun! The family had a small child and Menya was also great with him as well. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience and we will definitely be bacj to raft the middle fork, hopefully with Menya again! read more

Best rafting experience ever with this company. I have rafted before with six other companies and Whitewater excitement definitely takes the cake. Without a doubt, this is my first choice rafting company now. Never before has a company deserved their 5 stars from me. I know it's a long review, so I broke it up into sections for you guys to pick what you want to read. Whitewater Excitement's Communication Skills: All of the information you need is directly on their website and very easy to understand Reaching them for further questions by phone or e-mail is very fast and easy. They usually respond within the same day that you e-mail them any questions. I never got transferred to their voicemail when calling them as well. I called at least 10+ times with random questions (I'm very meticulous when it comes to planning). To summarize it up, very fast and crystal clear communication skills. Whitewater Excitement's Problem Handling Skills: My group of 12 booked our trip with this company though Groupon but ended up having schedule conflicts and couldn't go on the date we booked. Even though we didn't buy the insurance to change dates without paying the fee, this company was very kind and patient with us. They worked really hard to make things work with us given the last minute changes and did not charge us the penalty fee at all. (trust me, it was a very long headache and lasted over a hour) I was really surprised at how smooth the process went and was really grateful that they did not charge us the penalty fee. Impeccable customer service. Whitewater Excitement's Rafting Experience: My group completed the Middle Fork river with Philip as our guide. Very knowledgeable, great sense of humor, chill personality and a skilled rafter, we could not have asked for a better guide. Philip skillfully navigated us through the best rapids for the most excitement without hitting any rocks and capsizing at all (thank goodness because half of my group lied on the forms and couldn't actually swim). There were some rapids where we went back upstream to "surf" the rapid as well. I highly recommend you say "yes" when your guides ask if you want to surf the rapids. During the calm parts of the river, Philip did all of the rafting and only had us paddle during the rapids to save our strength. Best rafting experience ever with Philip. Lunch was awesome, the rafting guides brought a table and served up fresh ingredients for a make your own deli style, fresh fruits cut right in front of you, chips, cookies and lemonade/water. There was enough food for everybody. My group for sure was 100% full. Really impressed with the amount of food they gave us considering what we paid. Philip led us all into a secluded area with plenty of shade and rocks to sit on for our lunch. Our location was easily the best after seeing some of the locations where other companies had lunch. They even had candy/chocolate and drinks for us at the end of the trip as well. Prior to starting, we were all given vests and helmets where a guide came around to personally inspect us. Information speech on rafting commands was short and simple. Shuttle took about an hour and twenty minutes to reach the starting point and forty minutes to return back to camp after completion of the river. Whitewater Excitement Camp: Make sure you slow down when your GPS says you are near, the sign where you turn into the camp is really small and you might miss it. (Had to make an illegal u-turn because I zoomed right by it) The parking lot is huge with some shade on the side near the restrooms. Also, they have available camping spots as well (didn't camp so can't talk too much about it). The bathrooms are surprisingly very clean. Make sure you go here prior to shuttling down to the river because there are only pit holes down there. There is a gift shop there where you go check in with sunglasses, shirts and other rafting stuff. Also, they have coupons for the rafting photos. The coupons are not that good, they basically give you a free calendar and koozie if you buy the whole photo package if you buy the images right there on the spot in their store. The rafting gal was not even back to upload the photos yet when my group and I came after our trip. On their website and e-mail, Whitewater excitement seemed that they were very strict about the time and leaving right at 7 am. The shuttles did not leave until 7:26 am. This was the only downside because my group and I arrived at 6:30 am and had to wait almost a hour before starting. However, the awesome experience and organization from this company easily makes up for it. read more

We had a great time! Our guide Michele was hilarious, fun, knowledgeable, informative and most of all made us feel confident. This trip we did a one day, 21 mike trip down the class 3 rapids... SO FUN! We were sad when it ended and can't wait to come back. Next time we'll do the two day trip including camping/food. We stayed in their private campground for two nights... it was gorgeous! Right by the river banks. The bathrooms/showers were nice to have. The food was delicious. I'd say the only downfall of the camping was we were placed next to a group of men.. who came in tow with a whole lot of alcohol and no intention of quieting down at the 10:30 quiet time. ‍ Annoying and hard to sleep, but it won't keep us from going back. Such an amazing day! We had a large group that was split between two rafts. Both guides, Megan and Katie were experts!. I was on Katie's boat and enjoyed her knowlegable descriptions of all kinds of interesting river facts. She made the trip so fun. The rapids were amazing with the water running high and swift. Katie was a great guide, we took the challenging routes downstream but never felt out of control. I will certainly do this again! My friends were on Megans boat. They remarked what a great day it was. Megan is apparently quite the comedian! We had a GREAT time with our guide Quinn. We had some folks that had been rafting down the same way and some that had never been ever (including myself). While I was nervous, I felt quite at ease once I realized how much safety is kept a priority. Our guide had fun facts about the area and was a total bada** with navigating our raft as well as putting up with us. It is definitely important to listen to directions! Provided lunch was great. This is for instructor RICARDO- Instructions were not clear. My friend wanted to swim and she did mentioned that she did not know swimming. Still he told her to jump in and that it was safe. Also, there was a rapid very close to where he asked her to jump in. However, she started to panic and drown and was calling for help. The instructor was relying on us to help her out. (None of us knew swimming). He did not even jump in nor did he try. She was face down for few mins and no help was provided from the instructor's side. Also, in many instances we were told to jump in rapids as well which was very dangerous. Help was not provided even to come out of water. We had to rely on each other to do it. I really enjoyed our experience with this company. We were there 7/9 on a hot Sunday. Bunch of us girls needed to blow off steam from work (ended up talking about work...how does that happen?) I had no opinion of this place until that day. So I had no idea what to expect. Left it up to my friend (our social coordinator) to make the arrangements so I can't speak to how things went pre-booking. There is a huge emphasis on team work. Not just within the boat but within the company of other boats and within the guides. They seem like a real laid back crew, you almost think too laid back, until something happens. When there was an incident when someone unexpectedly fell into the water into an area that was Level 3-ish, the guides already were automatically in play following a protocol/rescue sequence before we had any clue what was happening. I just kept hearing our guide Jake (who was AWESOME,btw) boom out the order to Paddle Hard Forward! And Paddle Hard Forward we did. But why were we paddling toward shore? Before we knew it, a bunch of our boats banded together. Then we realized what happened. Another boat plucked the man out of the water and was returned to his original boat, really shaken, but apparently all right. Our boat had an AED in it (and six registered nurses ready to help) But we didn't do a thing because the guides already had it on-lock. Jake says they go through a lot of intensive training to be a guide. You have to know the local history and natural habitat that we are passing through. And most importantly, they run through scenarios regarding safety and security for us all. If you do well, then maybe you'll get to be a guide. I would trust my family with this company. Jake was super chill but knew how lead and work together when he had to. The other guides Jack, Bryce, and the rest of them that day were so great. The bus ride back to the rafting company along with the end of trip snacky treat (candy and soda never tasted so good-there are healthy options also..but all I wanted was sugar and bubbles after a rafting trip) It was a perfect way to finish the trip. My only constructive feedback is that the professional photography company might have taken some awesome pictures, but they are not available online. And the last thing we wanted to do is pile into the car and pile out of the car when it's super hot outside and we were dog-tired. Maybe have them at the ready at the rafting company? We had such a blast with our instructors! This is a family owned operation for over 40 years. The new generation has a great staff that trains for anything. Our boat flipped over and everyone knew exactly what to do. Toes to nose, feet off the ground! Megan looked like a warrior princess standing on top of our raft to ride the rest of the rapids... standing up, to collect her crew! It's a trip of a lifetime, you guys did an amazing job! PS - Thanks to dad who drove us back to our campsite because some folks lost shoes, you were amazing! Fruit snack Jack, you are the best! This company has been family owned and running this river for 40 years. The personal service, from Janine the reservations agent to Kathleen & Karen the manager and cook at the campground and especially to our amazing guide, Fruit Snack Jack, was absolutely first rate! Took a group of very reluctant and hard to impress teens on a 2 day South & Middle fork trip with camping and we all had a blast! The campground is well maintained and serviced, food was plentiful and very good. All rafting equipment was in good shape and the cost of the trip was reasonable. Highly recommend this outfitter if you are planning an American river trip & we will certainly be back again! read more
