Many, maybe most, of the oral surgeons in this practice hold dual MD and DDS or DMD degrees and after maybe dozen or so visits across several years my husband and I are very happy patients. Every experience has been stellar for patient care and in particular for surgical skill and outcome of the process. Noting a number of 1 star reviews, I'll point out that they are largely from people who are unhappy about this practice not taking their insurance. But, I'm going to focus on the quality of care here which is excellent at every step. If you are a patient looking for top quality surgical skill and care for procedures like wisdom teeth extraction, fractured tooth extractions, implants and diagnosis of oral disease, this practice in any of their locations is my recommendation. We used this Boise location but the practice has expanded with offices in Meridian, Star and Caldwell making it more convenient for patients in the Treasure Valley to access this care. OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE FOR PHYSICAN SKILL AND PATIENT CARE: We were referred in here by our dentist nine years ago when my husband needed implant work done to solve a very tricky problem. Having had one implant done maybe 20 years ago in another city where we lived, my husband, no sissy about discomfort, told our dentist "never again" for how painful it was. Our dentist said "Trust me. With Dr. Kempers at Whitewater this will be all good." And it was, with three different procedures and multiple visits across a couple of years time, the outcome was perfect. I had my own experience with Dr. Kempers (MD, DDS) a few years later when I developed a serious problem inside my mouth and tongue that was making it impossible for me to eat and even difficult to swallow liquid and my family doctor across four visits was patting me on the proverbial head and recommending OTC management of same. I finally went into my dentist as a "Hail Mary" and he said I needed to see Dr. Kempers ASAP, he made a call and Whitewater took me that same afternoon. Through exam and biopsy, Dr. Kempers diagnosed a rarely occurring (lucky me - not - to be in the 2%) autoimmune disease and with treatment he prescribed, it went into remission. When I fractured a molar a few years later (right before Thanksgiving no less), I saw Dr. Kempers to have it removed and subsequently an implant done and all went smoothly with everything. My husband and I also appreciated that the doctor and staff always treated us with respect and were willing to take time to explain procedures and answer questions. The surgeons here are highly skilled, their medical assistants are too, the scheduling and billing are always on point. My husband and I are very happy. THE INSURANCE ISSUE: Getting back to insurance, we do have dental insurance but like most dental plans it doesn't cover much beside routine dental cleaning twice a year and there is a high deductible before it kicks in for paying partial fees on other things. Like several of the people who complain here in 1 star reviews, we are retired people. Unlike them, we do not expect an oral surgery group, or any medical practice, to extend payment plans because that means the medical practice is essentially getting in the business of loaning money and getting in the business of managing the payments that isn't a model that works for any practice. We knew that going in. Also, for procedures that are not purely dental but medical, like the biopsy needed for diagnosis and treatment of the auto-immune condition, those were billed to and covered by our medical insurance. PARKING: Private lot and you enter through the front door. After surgical procedures with anesthetic for which one needs a driver afterwards, the recovering patient can exit and be picked up at the side door. ACCESSIBILITY: One might expect that 35 years after ADA was passed that all medical offices would be fully wheelchair accessible but you'd be surprised at how many are not. This one is. read more

I don't understand all the crazies that expect a highly regarded oral surgery unit to offer lending services. My dentist contacted one of the oral surgeons at Whitewater Oral surgery and asked if they would discount the normal charge for one tooth to be removed as I had used all of my dental insurance for the year. I am 76 and on a limited budget. My dentist was told that they would remove the tooth for approximately $300. This was put in writing. I made the appointment and when I got there, I gave the confirmation paper to the receptionist with the agreed-upon price. I was taken to the exam room and one of the oral surgeons asked me to open my mouth, and he looked to identify the tooth. no equipment was used. no bib was placed . One of the staff then met with me stating that it was going to cost $700 to remove the tooth and I asked her if she had been given the note that I had brought in with the estimate of $300 which was the agreed-upon price between my dentist and their office. She stated yes but that the fee was $700 and there was no negotiating. she was quite rude! I told her I could not afford that. I asked her again if she had seen the estimate that I had brought in and she stated that she had. She didn't inform me prior to the provider looking at my tooth that they were not going to honor the quote and that there would now be a charge of $119 as the provider had looked at my tooth. No equipment was involved. There was no placement of the normal bib. The only thing that had occurred was the surgeon asking me to open my mouth so could Identify the tooth. I again reminded them of the quote that they had given my Dentist and that is why I was referred there. But now being told they were going to charge me $700 I explained I could not have the procedure done there. At that point I left and they have continued to bill me the $119. If they had told me in advance, they were not going to honor what they had agreed to I would never have gone there to start with. I never would have allowed the to even look at my I had known were going to charge me for that and then tell me the fee was going to be different than what had been quoted. The billing lady was extremely rude and I reminded her and the other staff members I had gone in there based upon the estimate that I had been given by my dentist after he had confirmed the charge with their office. several of the office staff agreed they had seen the estimate and it didn't matter they were standing by the $700 fee even though I had in writing that their fee would be approximately $300. At that point I left and they have continued to send invoices of which I have paid them a few dollars every month against the $119 . My dentist referred me to another oral surgeon who charged me $302. to remove the tooth. I trusted that the quote they had given me would be the amount that I would have to pay. I am appalled that they would not honor their quote. I would not recommend this office to anyone. As a senior citizen on a budget I had done my due diligence by talking to my dentist and obtaining a referral with an estimate for treatment that I could afford . I'm retired. I called for JUST an ESTIMATE for their price for autoclave grafting. REQUIRED a consult fee to discuss. I didn't want to waste the insurance fee or my time on their services if I cannot afford their prices.....and then pay another dentist their consult fee. Horrible experience. I researched this provider before taking my son, filled out their electronic patient information forms with our insurance and other pertinent info, AND got confirmation directly from them that they were an in network provider. The visit seemed to go well, although they claimed they could not access my son's ER visit scans from St Als and then required us to do additional imaging at the appointment. We went ahead with that under the premise that it would be covered by our insurance. When the bill for hundreds of dollars came due and I asked why insurance wasn't covering the appointment and scans, and it was explained that they were NOT in fact in network. They apologized for the miscommunication and explained that the staff member who coordinated our visit was "let go." I will be trying to recoup our expenses but want to save you the effort of going through what we are having to deal with. WASTED TIME AND MONEY. VERY DISAPPOINTING. So here's how Whitewater Oral Surgery in Boise rips off their patients. This is based on my personal experience but I think it's a safe bet i'm not the only one they've done this to. I'll keep it as simple as possible: 1) They give the patient an estimated cost. After surgery, whitewater tells the patient the cost of the surgery went up but they will "honor" the original estimate. They then submit the higher cost bill to insurance. 2) Patient pays them estimated share of cost and they then bill your medical and dental insurance. They don't accept any medicare. 3) The payments they receive from Medical insurance, dental insurance plus your payment up front far exceeds their contractual agreement they have (how much they can charge a patient) with insurance. 4) If a patient looks at the payments they see Whitewater is obviously overpaid. 5) Whitewater blames, red tape, staff turnover and new billing process but never, ever refunds you the overpayment. 6) Health insurance Company knows Whitewater has been paid in excess of this contractual agreement but they can't make Whitewater refund the patient. They tried in my case. Summary: The surgeons are obviously skilled and provide excellent patient care but the office management are real slick and know how to manipulate the system and their patients (81 year old in this case) at expert level. My advice: DO NOT use Whitewater Oral Surgery in Boise. Find an honest oral surgeon- there's plenty to choose from in the Treasure Valley. If you are already working with them, Keep every email, voicemail, document you get from them. Make notes on every conversation you have with them. I went to whitewater to get a bone graph and prep for an implant. I'm 65 years old and on Medicare with dental insurance but none of the Medicare plans cover cost of implants they tried to tell me it would cover $1700 of the cost and I would have to pay $3400 up front so 2 months later they did the 1 hour procedure never told me my insurance wouldn't cover any costs of the implant and billed me the other $1728 on top of the $3400 I paid them up front. So I get the bill call them the week in front of Thanksgiving for clarification on the bill and they told me the billing office would get back to me in 72 hours almost 2 months later January 18th I finally get a response telling me I owe them this money because insurance didn't pay it when they knew full well insurance wouldn't pay it. So instead of getting a $5,000-$5500 implant I'm looking at $7500 implant. What they do to senior citizens is not just taking advantage of Medicare recipients I believe it may border on illegal practices It's a total shame because Dr Hastings is an excellent surgeon only if he didn't have a underhanded billing office this review would look quite different Boyd read more

1) Tried to schedule an appointment multiple times through their website, never got back to me on multiple occasions. 2) Very weird business hours- they only work weekdays and only take phone calls on weekdays from 7am-5pm, horrible timing considering MOST of all people are busy at those times. 3) Jennifer returned 1 of 3 of my phone calls and upon answering the phone she was very rude, instead of allowing me to banter with her about their tight schedule she got defensive and borderline insulting, horrible personality. 4) Judging based off other reviews they also rip off their customers, i would not suggest this place to anyone. read more

This business is a racket of little choice. After being referred here for oral surgery, i was told that I would have to pay $7000 out of pocket before they could extract the teeth. I was further quoted a total of $22,000 that would need to be paid up-front before i would have teeth put back in my head. They do not take payment plans. If you have $22,000 sitting in your bank, don't spend it here. go to another country that can do this for much less, and spend the rest of that money on a vacation there. Edit: I wanted to add, that I do have insurance, that was the quote after. The only offering they had, was to apply for a credit card, and put the charge on a very high interest loan. Please be careful with them! They are owned by a corporation backed east. We were charged a little over $4500 for 2 extractions and a bone graph. We were also told the insurance was only paying $500! So because of the pain we paid. Our insurance covered ALOT of this procedure. It's been over a month and we are struggling to get our refund! I have never been treated by any medical facility like this. Basically we were forced to pay or no dental work would be performed. I'm positive they did not check with the insurance company to see what was covered. They do not use the dollar amount the insurance company said is normal and it's been over a month and we still haven't been refunded! My numbers are no where near what they are going to refund. Do not come here! These people are thieves! I was scheduled to have an Extraction done, and multiple times, I asked them to give me a price breakdown beforehand. When I got to the appointment, I asked again that I needed to know what my insurance was going to cover, and they insisted that I needed to be seen after my original dentist had already sent them a referral and X-rays. After they brought me back, the oral surgeon only came in for a minute to review the referral and then let me know that the finance lady would talk to me. Once the finance lady came in, she told me right off the bat that my insurance was out of network and I would need to pay cash upfront, which was over $800 for an extraction, and that was not including the sedation. I told her I couldn't afford that, and I asked why they didn't tell me this before I went to the back. Once I let them know I was not going to do the extraction, they proceeded to charge me $119 for a "consultation" even though nothing was done. Literally paid $119 just to be told my insurance was out of network. This is such a shady practice and when i called to complain, i was met with a very unprofessional lady named Amy. I cannot express enough my gratitude towards this practice. Dr. Hastings is an outstanding surgeon with a kind and patient bedside manner. He is always willing to answer my questions and is easy to talk to. He expertly repaired both my perforated sinus and removed an exposed wisdom tooth caused by a previous practice. Thanks to sedation and his skill, I have finally overcome my fear of dentistry. After a setback of a year, I am now seeing the end game of my treatment. I had to take my 6-year old boy who has supernumerary teeth. Two extra teeth will have to be removed surgically in time. I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly impressed with Dr. Kempers' rather calm yet fun demeanor around my nervous 6-year old. He suggested we wait to see how the permanent teeth's roots form instead of possibly interrupting the development of them. My wonderful dentist, Dr. Evan Smith, recommended Waterwater Oral Surgery to me for a molar extraction and implant. I am very anxious when it comes to mouth work, but I trusted his recommendation. My friend's son, Dr. Justin Hastings, just happened to be the newest partner in the group. I am SO happy I went there and had Justin! He took his time in the consult appointment. I had the surgery and had the molar removed, bone grafted in, and am now awaiting the rest of the process to finish the implant. I have had no pain, and swelling. Dr. Hastings and his team knew I was anxious, and were very empathetic. The procedure was over before I knew it. I felt cared for and received such great treatment. I had to visit the White Water Wood River Dental group over the past few days and I would have to say Dr. Kempers and his staff are fabulous. Dr. and I spoke about what was needed and listened to my interpretation of what my dentist said and waited over a long weekend after they gave me an antibiotic IV and made an appointment a few days later to see how it worked before extracting the tooth. In the mean time my regular Dr. contacted him and said he would work on the tooth, it was saved rather than pulled which was what was originally going to happen. Instead of pulling the tooth Dr. Kempers waited to see what the IV did to fight the infection and the tooth didn't have to come out. This is HUGE! Instead of doing something drastically they waited and the outcome was positive, they didn't take my money and run, they let the medicine work and the tooth was saved. I went in to get all four wisdom teeth extracted; nervous as I was, the experience was much better than I had anticipated. The facility is new with a nice, clean interior. The consultation prior to the surgery was very thorough and I didn't feel pressured or rushed. Dr. Kempers is great and down to earth and overall the staff was very kind and helpful.
