Customer service was very lacking after job completed. We needed detailed breakdown on what they repaired so that our insurance would pay out the things omitted from the original estimate. For example, new ply boards for our roof repair were needed, and while they charged for that, they could not provide us an itemized breakdown, even after several asks. That resulted in us having to cover these additional expenses out of pocket. We were left going back and forth with the insurance about these additional charges, which was never resolved for us, because we had no evidence to support our claim. Whiting could have easily assisted and talked to our insurance- which they wouldn't. They also could have provide the itemized breakdown needed. But they offered no assistance after their check was cut! Side note - Work could have been neater, but they were quick and efficient. read more

I had a roof replaced (along with some rotten / molding wood), gutters replaced, and windows wrapped and another ornemental adjustment to my siding. This was effectively 3 jobs, done on 3 different days by 3 different crews. They were efficient, cleaned up well, and I am happy with the work. Beware of this company and stay far far away. I contracted the Whiting company to replace windows, gutters and a door. Heed the bad reviews on the sites as I have experienced everything that everyone has said. Not only did they damage my siding but they miss installed the capping around the windows and didn't install insulation around my windows. Now I'm tied up in a year+ of formal complaints because Mr. Whiting refuses to resolve the issues to any level of professional standard. The Whiting company itself does not conduct any work, they hire primarily unlicensed subcontractors to independently conduct the work you contract. They do not supervise, inspect, or even show up on the property to ensure that work is completed correctly. If you have had work done by this company, PLEASE call the company and demand to have it inspected as the subcontractors (Kevin in my case) has proven to cut countless corners including not installing insulation inside the walls. When I found the first issue, Mr. Whitings' response to me was "get a can of spray foam and fix it", then he claimed that he didn't have to install insulation. He continually refuses to commit in writing to do work to any level of professional standard. I've filed a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, gone to mediation and done everything required of me but he refused to complete the tasks he committed to complete in writing. He consistently promises verbally to do things but then refuses to put them in writing, this should be a HUGE red flag to anyone looking for a business to do work on their home. He offered to "fix" everything verbally but then as repeatedly became belligerent when I asked to capture what he would complete in writing. I initially gave him the benefit of the doubt and allowed him to inspect and fix my kitchen window but his crew caused further damage to my property and the fixes actually look worse...yes the capping is actually crooked by over and inch in the picture! I've filed a claim with his insurance and they have accepted liability for the damaged siding but due to a workmanship clause will not cover a significant portion of the work that needs to be completed. He continues to deny that quotes from other companies to complete the work are legitimate. I'm now TWO YEARS into this nightmare and Tim Whiting refuses to respond to any emails. The only choice I have to get the work completed is to file a claim with the state of MD and likely sue him. I hired the Whiting Company to re-roof our church's leaking 32 yr old flat roof. Out of the 6 quotes I got, Whiting was the least and best. Tim Whiting is such a great guy to meet, too. These guys quoted us one price to do a first story roof replacement and a 1st/2nd story gutter replacement. They took our money for a deposit. After over a week went by with no one contacting us to schedule the work, I called the office. We scheduled a day to start the project, then I got a call the day before that the work would need to be postponed for the weather (reasonable) and also that someone would be in touch with me to talk about the gutters. Turns out that they didn't want to honor the quote for the gutters because they had determined that replacing them would be more expensive than they had thought. We do have a bit of a rare gutter system. It's an old house with half round gutters on hangars attached under the roof. We pointed that out from the get go. And they had pictures and measurements. They should have taken that into account before they gave us a quote. This isn't rocket science, the hangars and half round gutters are clearly visible to the naked eye and during the initial measurements I had specifically pointed out that they might not be a simple project. I sent an email to both management and the guy I had been talking to asking what we could do to work out the gutters. After receiving no response within 36 hours, I called the office to cancel the work. Normally I would have given them more time but since they did not respond at all on Friday and it was Saturday with the work scheduled to start on Monday, I felt that time was of essence. During that phone call, management tried to throw their worker under the bus for not getting back with us instead of stepping up to take responsibility. And even after I stated multiple times that I wanted to cancel the entire project, they tried to give me a hard sell and continued to throw their worker under the bus. After management trying to pass the buck for a little longer, they agreed to refund our deposit and cancel the project. Then on Monday, their guy came out to start the job. They hadn't even told their own crew that the job had been cancelled! This company seems to treat its customers poorly and its employees even worse. I'm glad we found out about the poor quality of management prior to the project starting. read more

From the start it was a wait for the windows to come in, so they told me it would take weeks 8+. After 4 months or more of waiting. Whiting calls me on a weekend and tells me they will be at my home on Tuesday. With really no notice at all as a heads up that the windows came in. Contractor comes in doesn't bring all of the windows. Geez you wouldve counted them before taking out my window and not having the new to replace it with. SMH That is just part of it. Not happy at all and this is just the 1st day of it, which I was told it will take 3 days. Windows are not cheap and the cost and the results are not adding up for what I end up paying for it. Cranky guy. I found him on Angie's List. Perhaps his company does good work but when I talked to him he sounded like he was being put upon to have someone come to my house. The way he said it would work is that someone will come to my house and do the work on the spot if the cost will be between $400-$600. Sounds good. (He mentioned that he's not into all of that coming to the house once to do an estimate and then again to do the work). Fine. He also stated that someone will be calling me to set up a time, etc. 4 hours later I called him again to ask if and when someone would be calling. I was thinking that maybe I gave the wrong number. He re-explained how it works and that Jose would be calling to set up the time, in the next few days. I've got water leaking through my ceiling now and it's raining frequently. I don't have time to wait for days. I also mentioned that I'm calling around for estimates and I don't think he liked to hear that. After he told me Jose would be calling me at some point, he called back to tell me that maybe I didn't understand how it works. Yes, I do. If Jose can do it when he comes out for $400-$600, he'll do it right then. If it's more, he'll go over that with me. Mr. Whiting then tells me that if I'm getting other estimates he doesn't want to be told that I'm going with someone else because I'd be wasting his time. I told him his prices sound good compared to an estimate that I already got, but this wasn't going to work. He was all too happy to cancel. I had totally different experience with The Whiting Company. I was referred to them by a friend, called them for a roof replacement quote and talked to Tim Whiting. He was able to schedule an onsite estimate on a Saturday an accommodate our busy schedule during the week. We then met with Don, he was very professional, friendly and gave us a written estimate. He helped us choose a color that matched our house, the estimate was better than the three more we got prior. He was also very helpful in finding a resolution on our cold house during the winter - we didn't have a lot of insulation, so he referred us to a Accurate Insulation that was able to air seal the house and add more insulation. The roof replacement went well, their guys showed up on time, replaced the roof, cleaned up the property afterwards, everything that was on the quote, in one day. Roof looks amazing and it has a lifetime warranty from GAF. I highly recommend The Whiting Company. They are very reputable and highly rated on Angie's List. read more

I own an end unit townhouse in Columbia, MD. About a month ago after a couple storms, I started finding roof shingles on my front lawn. The roof had been reshingled 23 years ago after I bought my house. Since one of my neighbors on my street had his roof redone last year, I decided to go with the people he used because I knew he got 4 estimates and is someone who really does his research. So I contacted the salesman he used, Tony Errera from The Whiting Company. He came out very quickly, was very pleasant and gave me an estimate as well as one for my next door neighbor. Due to the size of our houses, he said we could share a load and have it done at the same time. I waited until May 1 to sign the contract and send a check for 1/3 of the cost. I was contacted just a few days later and was told the job could be done on May 10. The men showed up before 7 a.m. but by 7:15 they said they couldn't do it that day due to predicted rain. I was slightly annoyed because it wasn't supposed to rain till much later in the day. They said they would come back the next day (today). They went away and a truck came and delivered all of the supplies for my neighbor and me and put them on our roofs out of the way. Today they showed up at 6:37 a.m. I admit it was quite noisy for a long time and there was a huge mess in my backyard and front lawn. However, by the time they left at 3 p.m. everything was cleaned up. I'm still looking for nails because the neighbor who recommended them said he found some. So far I haven't found any. The final cost was only slightly more than the estimate but I was warned about it in advance. I did call Mr. Whiting this morning for a minor confusion about the additional cost for removing my second layer of shingles. He was calm, polite and explained it to me to my satisfaction. The Whiting Company was the only company to attempt to service my 4 story townhouse. They covered all the uncovered wood on my dormers and bay window. Replaced my roof. Then installed new windows. The whole job was really quick. They covered the uncovered wood on a Tuesday. The roof material was delivered Friday and installed the next day on Saturday. Then the windows were done Monday. So all in all everything was done within a week. I love my new windows and no more leaks! read more

Tim Whiting is as unprofessional as they come. Our initial phone call was ok, as it simply involved him providing me his email address and asking me to email details of the service I needed along with pictures. I provided the info and expected to receive an official written estimate, but instead received a call from Mr. Whiting verbally providing me an estimate, and him becoming extremely agitated when I asked for the estimate in writing. Mr. Whiting became very short (and frankly rude) to the point where I had to address it with him, and remind him that I was the customer and didn't appreciate his reaction to my request for a written estimate. He calmed down and agreed to send me an estimate. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and chalked his rudeness up to just a bad day, as we all have them. Ultimately, I didn't receive a professional estimate on company letterhead breaking down the specific supply and labor costs, but a one sentence email stating siding, roof and the bottom line cost, which was unlike any serious estimate I had ever received from a company who wanted to do work for me. There was atleast a months wait time to get the repair done by every other company I contacted, and Mr. Whiting had a team available the next week, so Despite his unprofessionalism up to this point, I decided to allow Him to handle the siding repair. Mr. Whiting couldn't give me an exact day/time he could have someone come out and handle the repair, but said he could have the repairs done within the next week. I was ok with this, as the repairs only involved the outside of the house. I came home the next day and found that the work had been completed, but didn't receive a heads up ( as I had requested) on the day they would actually schedule and be coming out to handle the repair. The repair was adequate, despite the siding replacement not being a perfect color match. I reached out via email to Mr. Whiting and asked for an address to mail a check for the work, or a website to make a credit card payment online. I didn't receive a response to my email, but got a phone call from Mr. Whiting nearly a week later asking for a credit card payment over the phone, which I don't normally do (as I am left with no receipt of payment or guarantee that the correct amount will be charged). Mr. Whiting, once again, becomes belligerent with me, stating that he was too far away to come pick up a check, he has no website where I can make the payment online, and if I had been home when his team came to do the work (which I was not given heads up on regarding the date/time) I could of made the payment in person. I was flabbergasted at Mr. Whiting response, and agreed to just pay him via credit card over the phone, just to end this unpleasant experience with him, and Idemanded that I be mailed a proper receipt in the mail, which I am waiting for. Based on this unpleasant experience with Mr. Whiting, I would never do business with his company or recommend his services to anyone I know. read more

I recently contacted the Whiting company for an estimate for siding. Mr. Ken Danbridge came and gave me an estimate on Thursday, September 26 I was pleased with the estimate and agreed to do the work with this company. I had some questions and sent Mr. Danbridge a text asking him to contact me. A week later, after the contract cancellation date, he called and came to meet with me. At that meeting he began to add in other things like gutters and down spouts. for an additional $1,300 dollars. In the initial meeting he had commented that He questioned whether I wanted the downspout on the front porch replaced. I was led to believe that the gutters and downspouts were included in the initial price. He then proceeded to amend the contract on Friday October 4, 2019 to indicate that the gutters and downspouts would be done by the client. When what I told him was I wanted the current gutters and downspouts put back after the siding was done.. I have not even begun to work with this company and am already having nightmares about what will happen. He is also noting on the paperwork that I will have to pay $80 per sheet of plywood that needs replacing. There is no plywood in these houses as I pointed out. Simply metal studs. Besides sheets of plywood actually are about $30-35 per sheet. He explained the additional cost as being labor and other factors. I am really upset that I didn't go with the smaller company that gave me an estimate. They included gutters, downspouts and door and window wraps for basically a bit more than Whiting Company. I am a senior citizen, recently widowed who does not need this kind of thing to deal with. read more

I had a contract with Mr Whiting sometime September 2019 for Roofing, siding, 30 windows, and trim for one 1630 SQ ft house and 630 sq ft another dwelling. Initially, I felt very comfortable with his soft voice. It was subcontracted out, which I did not know at the beginning. May be that's how this thing works and did not complain. Once the materials were dropped in, Mr Whiting disappeared and never came to sight. The windows subcontractors came in and finished installing the windows but some were not caulked and insulated. It was hard to communicate with Mr. Whiting as he would not respond on time. The roof had issues and they did not do a good job as they needed to replace some woods and the trim. It was hard to communicate and I let it go as I did not get answer. The trim and siding were dome by 2 Korean guys, they were excellent. But in overall, I was happy with the siding and the trim job, but the windows and roofing was not good at all. At the end, Mr Whiting send me a $400 bill which I am sure was part of the contract. I paid after he started sending threatening communications via email as well as letters. Mr. Whiting only cares about the money,. He never asked be how the job was done and whether I was happy.
