There comes a time, in every man's life, when he can no longer depend on the key scanning/imaging/cutting technology at a "local" (national chain) hardware store, and must lean on the expertise and experience of a locksmith who has honed his skill in his trade for decades upon decades. That time came for this man (that's me) last week, when a copy of a copy of a copy of a key no longer functioned properly in a normal lock at a client's house. As you can imagine, when you're planning to sell a house, this isn't a good scenario. En route from one appointment to the next, I happen upon Whitley's Lock & Safe. I call to make sure they're open (locksmiths are notorious for having a store that they're never at because the money is in the mobile service) and sure enough, they're there! There are two lock-and-key geniuses working behind the counter, and one of them asks how he can help me. I explain my situation and within a few minutes I have two - not one - but two custom copied keys. One is an exact replica of the key I brought in, and the other is raised .015 (fifteen thousandths) to adjust for (get this) AGE. The lock, the key, they've worn down over time, but this copy - well this copy is like the long-lost-never-used-before clone! Needless to say the identical copy just didn't work. The age-adjusted key worked like a champ. Totally saved us, and my clients were pretty impressed, too. Do you think your local hardware store could've done that? Didn't think so. Moved across country and of course misplaced the keys to our fire safe that has the birth certificate needed to register the child for school. I looked everywhere I could think of, no keys. So I called Whitley's and the gentleman on the phone said to bring it in for a look. When I arrived, the same gentleman took the safe and tried to cut a new key based on the type and size of the lock but it did not work, so he just picked the lock real quick. The day was saved and I have the documents I need. He also said to call Sentry with the serial number on the inside of the safe and they may be able to send me a new set of keys for it. I had lost the key to my bike holder that I purchased from Volkswagen. The dealership said I could not get a replacement key or lock because the part was discontinued. I went to three other locksmiths in town and they didn't provide a quarter of the effort and service I got from Whitley, maybe because of the challenge to create a new key for it with not much info on the lock to begin with. The Home Depot offers key service, but you would never know that. There is no bell that goes off when you walk through the door. The key section is always empty with the huge question of "Who does the keys?" One day I got sick of this treatment and decided to check out Whitley's. What a huge difference a decision makes. Within 5 minutes, I had 15 duplicate keys made for the shop I was working for. They had a nice assortment of designer keys, which I bought for my own house key. The service was good, not extra friendly, but I am not sure I would be happy cutting keys all day either. Nonetheless, he got the job done and for a few more pennies on the dollar, in record time comparable to The Home Depot. These little places are what makes commerce so much better for the locals. Called a few places, yes found a couple that were a tiny bit cheaper but Whitley's had the best customer service! Dave was who I spoke to over the phone and he was very helpful. Can't remember the name of the man that came out and unclocked my car but he was also very friendly and professional. The entire process took under 5 minutes. I recently purchased a $3000 safe from Whitley's lock and safe and have had nothing but problems with the product and owner. As per discussed and even annotated on the receipt, the safe was to be delivered on a Wednesday. On Tuesday, I receive a call from my wife stating that someone was at our gate trying to deliver a safe. She ends up taking off from work (teacher) and has to use an absence. The delivery guy got a really bad attitude with her and even used profanity. Later the sales person (Dave) admits that this was his mistake. Dave also told me that each shelf could withstand over 100 pounds of weight, so I can store a variety of heavy objects on each shelf. This information was inaccurate and a deal breaker in my opinion. Also, every single shelf in the safe was installed improperly. They were all slanted at an angle. I made the mistake of testing one of the shelves and an entire box of silver bars (20 lbs) crashed through the shelf and scratched up my wooden floor. So now I have an unusable safe, scratched up silver bars and major scratches on my wooden floor. Had the safe been delivered the day it was supposed to I would have sent it back and not accepted it. I was very clear with them about not being there until that Wednesday, so I feel that they tried to pull a scam on me all while the delivery guy cussed at my wife and cost me an additional $300. After a few weeks of waiting they finally send a locksmith out to my home to evaluate the situation. He laughed when he went shelf by shelf and saw that they all had been installed wrong. In his words he said "man, this has been like the perfect storm." He left all of the shelfs off, because he admitted that this safe won't work for what I'm using it for because the base is made of particle board. I asked him what were the next steps and he gave me a very cold look and said "I'm not the boss, but you will eventually hear from him." I have since called Whitley's 3 separate times and have been told Todd (owner) would call me back. He never has, so I decided to go by last week and was blown away by the way I was treated. I explained again that the safe was delivered on the wrong day and all of the other issues that have gone wrong. He looked at me and said, "too bad, the safe was delivered." I still am in shock that he is in business with that type of an attitude to a client that spent exactly $2,978.34 on December 11, 2018. read more

Iost the keys to my antigue dChevy (62). I checked with several local locksmiths who told me to find someone who specialized in antigue cars. Since I live near Whitleys, I stopped by and one of the guys saie the they would send someone to the storage facility where I keep the car to check it out and see if they could help me. Ron called and arranged to meet me to look at the car. He looked at it, left and returned 15 min. later with a box of old GM keys. He found a couple that would operate the ignition switch and used it to remove the switch tumbler and used the code there on to produce the keys I needed. In other words, GREAT SERVICE and a more than reasonable price for time and effort spent. Kudos to Ron and Whitleys. read more

Excellent service. I hired Whitley's to rekey my locks at my home. The service was excellent and cost exactly what was quoted.

I called Whitley's for service because my ignition on my Honda locked up. they came out spent about 4 hours repairing my ignition after it was all over the tech told me i had a 30 day warranty and charged me $243.56 . i started my car and went to work. the very next morning i got into my car only to find that it would not start same problem as before, the tech told me that there was no reason why it should not be working so rather and come out and see what might have gone wrong. it was decided that they would order a new ignition and charge me another $200.00 with no guarantee that it would work, i asked to speak to a manager but never got a call back from anyone. i sent my car to the repair shop to get my car fixed.to this day i have not received a call from anyone .needless to say i was very disappointed with the service i received $243.56 just to be in the same place where i was when i called them. not Happy at all they could of at least offered a partial refund. read more

I bought a gun safe (used) about a year ago that uses a battery powered key pad that would occasionally not work. The problem was that it would drain the battery (within less than a month), and it would just need a fresh battery, but this time, it kept me locked out, even after trying a new Energizer 9v battery and even a rechargeable 9v battery that was fully charged. I called Whitley's and got a guy named Todd, who was very pleasant and professional on the phone. He suggested that I first try using a Duracell battery, because otherwise, they would have to drill into the safe to open it, and afterwards they would have to repair the damage and change the lock- all of which would come out to about $400-$500. I bought a Duracell battery and thankfully- and for whatever reason- it worked. I'm sure Todd could have just come out, done the same thing and charged me a hefty little service charge for 5 second's work. I'm considering just changing the lock to either a more reliable, mechanical spin lock or electronic keypad that doesn't drain the battery so quickly, and when I do, these are the guys I'm coming to.
