I had recently purchased my first home and needed all the lawncare essentials. Being a single female and not knowing much about things of this nature, I went to the Ace Whitmore. The store manager Derek was very helpful and spent time with me in picking out a mower and explaining how to use it. I signed up as a rewards member (it's free) and got $100 off the Ego mower and an additional $100 off the Ego blower/trimmer combo! I also received and used a $5 off $15 coupon via text. Derek explained the batteries on Ego are interchangeable, which was an added plus. I recommend anyone who needs some extra assistance to go to Ace. Jeff was so helpful when I went into the New Lenox store in need of a new battery for the car remote. I had no clue how to change the battery or take apart the remote to get to it. it turned out it was pretty tricky, but Jeff took the time to figure it out and did it for me. In addition, store manager Vicky was super helpful to not only me but every customer she encountered asking if they needed help and ensuring they found what they needed. Ace is the place! This Ace is great, like many others. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They go above and beyond... For instance; I brought my nephew and his friend in to get painting supplies for the fort we built. When we gave the young gentleman the paint code that we wanted he said he would have it up right away. As we were walking around to check out the rest of the store he came up to me and asked if the boys would like to see how the paint becomes the color we requested. He walked us through the computer process, then they were able to watch the dye combination that is added to achieve the final product. This was cool for them to see, and they were genuinely interested. I appreciated that greatly, as did they. The employees are very helpful. Especially Kathy at the front register was helpful even though I could tell she was very new. I would give them a 4-5 for them. but after seeing how they treat their employees , the owners get a 1-2 after hearing about and personally seeing the way the owners treat their employees. I've found, after running a business for almost 10 years and also researching many successful businesses, that your workers are more reliable, happy and more productive if you treat them with respect. read more

This review is for the New Lenox Whitmore Ace Hardware. I was in today looking to get a large quantity of flower seed packets to give as gifts to my graduating students. They were able to pull together what I needed in a matter of hours when I thought it would be a day or two. They were so accommodating and eager to help, and I am so very grateful for that. My students will love the seeds, and I am so glad I made Ace my first stop - I thought I would have to go to several stores to get what I needed, but they took great care of me. Run, don't walk away from this hardware store. I thought with the change of ownership last year things had to improve. I was wrong. Now they have a Nazi female manager who thinks she runs the world. Most of the employees are slower then snails, they are way over priced, it's not even competitive. Their selection is limited. It doesn't represent the Ace Hardware values and customer service Ace is known for at other stores. Just drive to Lowe's. read more

I purchased some patchmix for the lawn that was $12 at an Ace Hardware in another town from where I live. Two days later I decided I didn't need it so I took it back to the Ace Hardware where I live in New Lenox. I was told that because I did not buy it from this store I could only get a credit slip. They said that was their policy. I did not want the credit and I walked out with my item. I called corporate and told them of my experience and advised them that I will never purchase another item from Ace store anywhere. They agreed that for $12 the New Lenox store should had taken it back. I explained to them that being treated like this is another reason why people shop at the big box stores. So now another small business has lost a faithful customer because one manager was too greedy to pay out $12. Incredible! read more

I have been a customer at this Ace Harware since 1992. I am just tired of going through the hassle when checking out at the register. Even back in the 90's they wanted 3 forms of ID to write a check for your purchase. I have never presented a bad check but decided from now on I will use cash or credit card when using this store. Using cash and the cashier would not process my purchase unless I gave them my name and phone number. I'm sorry but that is un called for! After my experience, I contacted ACE customer support and they contacted the store manager on my behalf. She was extremely apologetic and offered to immediately rectify my situation. I appreciated her sincerity and her efforts to make me a satisfied customer. I was very disappointed in Whitmore Ace Hardware. I went in on Sunday, Dec. 2nd for their two hour Yeti sale. The store ran out of the advertised tumbler and replaced it with another size Yeti tumbler. While in line to purchase my tumbler an employee told me the sale was over. The sale ran from 12 to 2. It was 1:00. The shopper in front of me was allowed to purchase her Yeti. The employee explained to me it was the lid on the Yeti and that I could not purchase the product at the sale price. The employee did not offer to swap out the lid. I like to shop local and always will. Unfortunately, for the New Lenox Ace there is one in Mokena that is just as easy to get to! read more

I went in there today to get new batteries for my car keys and right away someone asked if I needed help and assisted me to the right person. When the batteries started getting worked on, I got very overheated very fast and sat down and started to throw up (graphic I know I apologize). The guy helping me who was maybe in his 20s got me a garbage before anything went wrong and got me a cold water bottle that he later said was "on the house". I apologized a lot because I felt bad but they were all so incredibly nice there and super helpful with my keys. Overall, it was fantastic. read more

All of the associates are so helpful and pleasant, and the selection is vast and unique.. just what you should expect from Ace. These people don't understand the concept of browsing around, as the second you walk in they hound you as if you're in there to steal something. Unless you know exactly what it is you're looking for, I wouldn't bother with this place. Try lowes instead, you won't feel suffocated. read more

I like Ace Hardware so I will not be writing them off completely, but I am definitely writing off their store in New Lenox. Biggest bunch of morons I have ever had to deal with. So I needed a new push lawn mower. Wanted a cheaper one that would only go a year or too, when I can upgrade. After researching online at Lowes, Home Depot, Menards and Ace, I found the one I wanted at Ace. I called first to see if they had it in stock at the store (for some reason that info is not available on their site) and the guy on the phone had no idea what he was doing. I gave him the product number off the site, and he said he couldn't find it(I can hear him muttering and pounding away on a keyboard) I give him the make, model, specs of it. Still can't find it. Need a new approach I guess. I asked if they had lawn mowers, asked him to go look and see if it was there. What do you know, one left. I asked if he could put it on hold until I could pick it up later. He tells me they don't do that. I explained I was at work, and was definitely going to come pick it up. Puts me on hold for a while, and comes back and says it's ok. Alright, I'm ok at this point, but this guy could use some serious phone skills training. Go and pick it up. Greeted by some young girl who was more than deeply confused by the fact that I was there to pick something up. She had to get on her radio, still didn't know what was going on so she meant me to the back desk. Greeted there, by an older gentleman who abruptly tells me that he is working with someone else, and walks away, (Fine, maybe you're busy, that's still ok) Another older guy comes over and asks what I am there for, I tell him, and he seems confused. Yet another guy comes by and points at me and asks if I am picking up a lawnmower(finally we're getting somewhere) He disappears. Another man, yes another (How many people work here at once) Comes up to me, shoves a laminated piece of paper at me, demands that I need to read it and walks away. I read it and it basically says that once oil and/or gas goes into a product like mine, it is virtually impossible to return. Comes back and says that they are putting my lawn mower together(odd since it already was) and guides me around a corner where I see a guy finishing up putting oil into the lawnmower. Goes and grabs a gas can, and I tell him I don't want gas in it as I don't have a truck and have to put it in my tuck. He tells me they always do this. (Well isn't that just convenient for them after reading the no return policy). It starts, sounds good, ready to go. Get up to the counter. That same girl who greeted me is there waiting and proceeds to just stare at me. After a bit of this, I remind her that I am at the register to pay. She says, Oh, and then turns her gave to stare at the mower. Ask again about paying and her response is literally these words, "I'm looking at it". Uh, ok. Finally she rings me up and the best thing that happened all day was one of the guys helped me load it in the car. Will never use this Ace again. read more

I had a problem with Christmas lights that my husband brought on black Friday. I came in to the store and asked what i could do to repair the problem of the lights been dim. the Manager said he never heard of such a thing. he advised me to take a picture and come back with the empty boxes to prove that it was his product. On Dec. 24 , I came back with pictures and empty boxes in hand as advised. I spoke to the manager again who stated he did not remember the conversation. I returned the Christmas lights a half hour later. He keep stating he could not find me in the system. As I was leaving I stated that this was the worst experience I have ever have. He made me feel so uncomfortable. I followed his directions. That is when the store manager to " fuck off " and walked away. The young cashier named Tom was standing there and advised me that he would tell the store owner what had just happened to me. and he said "sorry about that" On Dec 26, I call the store and left me name with Mary to have the store owner to call me and to this day I have not received a return call. I have always brought our lights at ace hardware. as a matter of fact I think the year before we brought at least 10 new boxes. I main concern is the way he spoke to me. No one was ever told me to "FUCK OFF" before. I would give no stars if I could. Avoid this store if you can Im not the only one with this experience but it seems he only treat women this way. Prices are outrageous! Way too expensive to shop at....Big box stores are much cheaper. Bought a few nuts and bolts for a small project and the bill was over 22.00! Same parts at Menards was about 4 bucks! Employees are right on top of you when you walk in-feels awkward. Can't even browse without having the feeling that you are being watched. Manager/owner is very pushy and tries to get you to spend money in the store. read more

I had mediocre service at best and there were times when it was offensive. A few years ago I was strongly demanded a second time my business and virtually ushered out of the store because the female clerk seemed to have a problem with me comparing grass trimmer followed around and was followed to the parking and watched like a hawk if I stole but never asked to look in my bag. Then another clerk attempted to sell me the wrong gas line for dryer even when I had the old one in hand and fire extinguishers that he pointed out were on sale but found out at the register the one he gave me twice as expensive and they had run out of the sale one a day earlier. The latest is when the clerk Dan agreed to cut glass for me but when I returned at the time he agreed it was not done and when I said it was ok to that clerk I will go someplace else, the other clerk tried to keep me there to get my money but then acted like it was my fault that he did not have the dimension Dan took. Been a homeowner in new Lenox since 2008 and never had pleasant clerk. As much as I want to support local business, I can't support them if they do not want me to shop in their store and willing to take my money for the bad service. read more
