One of those doctors that just breathes confidence. It gave my wife and I confidence in her skill as a surgeon My wife had a mastectomy. Dr Burrell showed a great amount of care for my wife with her comfort level, answering questions, accommodating our schedule, communication, and with how she would look. I read some of the negative reviews. Personally that was not our experience at all. Could've been a misunderstanding or maybe it just wasn't a good fit for the client/patient. Whitney Burrell is a fat shamer & presented herself as illogical and unknowledgeable. She completely changed her plans for my breasts. Some of her staff couldn't do their job either and immaturely got sassy with me. Check out their site. They immediately want to know your weight. I was making money with my body at the time. "Oh, you have a cute little tummy." She patronizing told me. Yeah, no sh*t. My income was great. I was never fat shamed until I met Whitney. Whitney want me to lose an unreasonable amount of weight in an unreasonable amount of time... in order to make herself feel better with what she thought my ideal image should be. I told her crossfit women with stringy, scrappy muscle tone, which was all the rage at the time in this area, was not attractive to me... or most men I...spoke... with. Keep in mind that I was under 200 lbs, (I am not putting my exact weight here.) I wasn't morbidly obese or anything. She told me she does this to all her clients. I told her there was no logic to me losing a lot of weight, getting surgery by her, and then I obviously would not be able to keep the weight off, which has endless clinically proven results that you can't rapidly lose weight and keep it off.. that's just science, & which would cause dysmorphic changes to my surgery "Yeah, that makes sense." she said. Are you kidding me?! Stay away from Whitney, the fat shamer. read more

I saw Dr Burrell after a diagnosis of breast cancer. Although she did pretty work, I felt she did not listen to my concerns & really didn't care. When I vomited in her office, she told her assistant to get a blood pressure cuff, but then stated she didn't think they had one in the office. Really? A medical office with no way to measure blood pressure?! Following that, when I ended up in ER with severe nausea, the ER doctor couldn't reach her despite talking with her service three separate times. When I did speak with her the following day she blamed it on the antibiotics & claimed she had told me to stop them. She hadn't. And when I told her so, she said something to the effect that she'd told her girl to tell me. No one had told me. And I always had a friend in the room with me taking notes because I didn't trust my memory after anesthesia. Two months after surgery (just before she was going out on maternity leave) I told her I was being poked by a couple sutures (on the healthy breast she had done a reduction & lift on) that were very uncomfortable. She said "they'll dissolve." And that was the end of that. Pregnancy brain? Arrogance?I don't know but I won't be back to her for the final step of reconstruction. read more

Dr. Burrell did my breast reduction in December 2020. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is great to talk to, listens to what you want, and gives honest feedback. And she is SKILLED. My breasts look amazing (size is exactly what I wanted, shape is fabulous, and scars are healing amazingly well) and my recovery was smooth and pretty pain-free. She knows what she's doing and really takes care of her patients. I am obsessed with my new boobs, feel 1000x more confident, and I absolutely have Dr. Burrell to thank for that! -A SHREAD OF HUMAN DECENCY- I apologize to the doctor for taking this long to write the review on her. On December 23rd my almost three-year-old daughter had a major laceration to her top lip we were rushed ER. As a parent I cannot tell you how frightening all of this was fearing my little girl might have a major scar for the rest of her life. Dr. Burrell came down the Night Before Christmas Eve to fix my daughter lip. Yes a plastic surgeon came down to the ER on the night before Christmas Eve which in itself is a miracle. When we went to her office for the check up her exact words were "I don't know who told you you owe me money, but I want to see you guys in 6 months make sure everything's healing okay" and that's why I am entitled this a shred of human decency. Dr. Burrell and the entire staff were amazing through my BA surgery process.. from the consultation to the surgery itself to now being 5 weeks post op. She really took time to go through all my options of sizes, with the size I wanted, what would look best and still be safe. I'm completely happy and in love with my results. 4 1\2 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery and had lost 140 pounds I had so much skin hanging it stayed infected and painful. But not only painful but it really was hard to see all that skin on my stomach after all I had done to get rid of the weight. My journey has not been an easy one but for sure we'll worth it. I came to see Dr Burrell in October of last year truly in tears telling her I have come so far and try so hard but the skin just won't go away. I told her how much I lost and that I now do 5k, 10k, half marathons as well as cycling but this skin is always infected and is keeping me from finishing my journey to a more fit and healthy life. She was very caring and companionate towards my emotions far more then you would think. See there are Dr's who do what they do for a living and then there is Dr Burrell who Cares for you not just you as a patient but as a person. She got the approval for my surgery and we went forward with it. She removed 15 pounds of skin !!!!! Yes I said 15 pounds. This is most amazing part of my continued journey at the time I had this skin removed my boyfriend of 3 1\2 years made a choice he didn't want to any longer be a part of my journey and walked out on me 3 weeks before surgery. Now who does that to someone they love ??? I came into the office crying before and after surgery I was going through a lifelong change not only with my body but now with my broken heart !!!! Let me tell you Dr Burrell was not just a dr who removed 15 pounds of skin she then was a person who cared about me as a person and my broken heart. I was hurting from surgery but more from the breakup. She was there for me to pick me up when I came in broken from the heart. In June of 2015, I had a double mastectomy and Dr. Burrell was my plastic surgeon, inserting expanders at the time of the mastectomy in anticipation of the implant surgery she performed three months later. The thought of surgery, at least for me, was scary, but everything I learned about Dr. Burrell in advance of meeting with her reassured me of her skills. I am a researcher at heart, and as you likely know, it is hard to get info. about health practitioners. I started by reading her bio. Have you looked at her credentials on the South Bay Plastic Surgeon's website? Her resume is impressive: super smart and years of professional experience. This all sounded good to me, but it wasn't enough so I talked to several nurses who had seen her work. They confirmed that she is a gifted surgeon, extremely competent and calm under pressure. This information was the reassurance I needed and once we met, I was doubly confident that everything was going to be fine. Dr. Burrell is extremely skilled. She is a perfectionist and she is unflappable. She is thoughtful and never makes you feel silly with whatever questions you have. After my mastectomy, I saw her weekly so she could evaluate my progress and her caring and expertise was a huge psychological boost as I had absolutely no doubt that I was getting the very best care possible. I know that surgery and numerous follow-up doctor appointments can't really be categorized as "fun," but if you have to have surgery - or you choose it - being a patient of Dr. Burrell's is a real gift. Dr. Burrell is simply amazing! I met her after my unfortunate diagnosis of BC (breast cancer). When faced with a new, scary, life-altering road... it was comforting to have her by my side. And yes, I truly feel she was by my side. She cared about me as a *person*, sought my opinions & feelings about how everything was going, spent as much time with me as I needed, was available by phone or email promptly (of course sometimes she was in the OR for multiple hours but I still felt she responded as promptly as possible), asked & cared about other things going on in my life that were vital to my healing, etc. What a gift it was to me to find her! Dr Burrell, Was outstanding, I have always struggled with my breast size being 5"1 and 120 I was a 32FF and now I am proud to be a 32 C. Dr Burrell was kind and caring and had my best interest in mind she made this procedure as smooth as possible. I'd be honored to write a review, I thought to myself as I opened the website. Then I sat and read each and every review, with tear-rimmed eyes, and wondered, what can I add to this. Part of me thought this was all about me ...my experience, my doctor, my friend and yet as you read the heartfelt words coming from the others, you realize that this is the experience of every person who walked into her office one day and placed their trust, their all and all, in her hands. As I look back to the day we met, I realize now, through my journey with Dr. Burrell, that as I gave her my hand, she gave me her heart. Mine was the unexpected breast cancer diagnosis at 69. Although, I humbly stand in the shadow of those Stage 4 women fighting for their lives; the fact that I had what is called "the good kind" was no less terrifying or heartbreaking than the BRCA positive woman who decides to have a preventive double mastectomy. So, I urge you to read through all the other stories, make them your own and then rest in your decision to invite Whitney Burrell, MD along on your journey to wholeness; be it breast cancer reconstruction, cosmetic or an unexpected accident requiring someone by your side who believes more for you than you can for yourself. I'll end with something I say to her over and over as my way of reminding her of my deep and sincere gratitude for what she did for me the day of my reconstruction ...that turned into night; "A lesser doctor would have left at the estimated 4-5 hours ...you stayed 7." I went to Dr. Burrell for a breast reduction after many years of wanting one. It was so necessary due to back pain and just the fact my triple D's were way too big for my 4'11" body frame. Dr. Burrell is one of the nicest most down to earth doctors I have ever met. She made me feel so comfortable and calm about my procedure. She has such a warm heart and is such a down to earth person it was a pleasure to have met her and had her as my doctor. She is so caring!!! She did an amazing job on my reduction and I am so happy with the way I look now. I can actually buy a medium shirt instead of the extra larges I have always had to buy. :) All of the girls in her office are also super nice and really make you feel welcome which is just another reflection of her. Before I even had my double mastectomy (due to a Breast Cancer diagnosis and BRCA1 gene), I knew that I wanted Dr. Burrell to perform my breast reconstruction with Diep Flap. I had experience watching her interact with a past patient and I perceived her to be direct but very kind, which is what I need from my physicians in such a situation. I felt her consultations were always informative, her staff was very professional, and of course, the results of the surgery is awesome. In my opinion, the surgery was a physically and emotionally hard recovery. However, this does not negate the excellent outcome of Dr. Burrell's work. I later had nipples created after healing from the reconstruction. I am actually happier now with the way my body looks. This surgery changed the way I viewed plastic surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Burrell and I would even consider future plastic surgery if I felt I needed it. read more
