Absolutely would not recommend this company. Originally contracted to move items out of my house so…read morethat flooring could be replaced and the interior painted while we were on vacation. During the load out, I watched and listened using the interior security camera as the two crew mocked the quality of our furnishings and the general cleanliness of the house. Every time they came back into the house, both were busy scrolling through their phones (this will be important later). When the time came to move things back into the house, our expectation would have been to have things in at least the same room they were in. Despite calling the company and asking them to have the crew (same two guys) wait, as we were almost home, when we arrived, it was very obvious that they were rushing to leave before we got there. We walked in to the house to find stuff literally everywhere, shoved into closets, placed in inappropriate locations, etc. As an example, one half of a china cabinet that belonged in the living room was in the master bedroom, and the other half was in a bedroom across the house. The crew rolled their eyes when we asked for a few simple things to be done, and then demanded payment. To make matters worse, I had to be admitted to the hospital the next day, and it was almost a week before I was able to get back into the house and discover additional issues. The power brick for my adjustable bed was missing, and the company attitude was, "well, we don't have it, so not our problem", forcing me to buy a replacement. As to the haphazard placement of items, the company stated, "We don't have photographic memories." No, but your workers had phones that they were obsessively checking that could have been used to (gasp) take pictures of room contents before unloading the house to use as reference when loading things back in. Then, salt in the wound, the company refused to acknowledge any responsibility for fixing anything, and had the gall to charge a guy with a leg injury and his disabled wife $200 for 30 minutes of work moving items around the house and back into the appropriate rooms. The whole vibe when getting that arranged was, "You weren't there during move in, sucks to be you." Since then, I have discovered that our furniture and belongings were not treated well (chips and dents on furniture, etc.) during either the move out, move in, or both. It's just not worth the hassle of dealing with this uncaring, predatory company to get compensation or even an apology for a horrible experience. If we could rate zero stars, we would. Stay away. Stay far away.

Every interaction--from getting a quote from Justin, to generous help from the office staff borrowing boxes, and the extraordinary service on moving day from Jerry and Carrie. It was a hot July day, and they had to move my mom out of a third story apartment without an elevator. Jerry was so kind, patient, and helpful. What could've been a really stressful day, went really smooth. I am overjoyed with the service from Merchants! Not that I'm ready to move again soon, but if you are, definitely work with this team! Factoid: they have been providing moving services in Boise since 1944.

The two Merchants employees, Dan and Christian, were on time, early even, for the appointment, friendly and professional and clearly "spoke designer" for how they moved things about with her recommendations and directions. They accomplished in roughly 90 minutes what would have been impossible for us in any time frame. They worked efficiently and carefully and that they were such nice men was a bonus too. We've moved 14 times in 42 years so the odds are good that we'll move again. In all those moves the only bad experience we had was with the moving company in Boise, a national brand competitor of Merchants (which is affiliated with national brand Atlas), that did a woeful and careless job and damaged furniture to the tune over a thousand dollars in repairs moving us into a rental and then a year later out of the rental into our new home just five miles away. Based on our experience with Christian and Dan for the work they did for us and our designer last week, when our next move comes up we will use Merchants.
