Decided to give Whit's End a try for lunch today. They had a buffet with a few breakfast items, fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and salad bar. The fried chicken is fabulous!! Crispy and tastes very fresh. I tried the mashed potatoes and green beans. Both had a good flavor but needed salt. Salad bar had lots of nice options and everything looked and tasted fresh. With the salad bar, you can choose from the cake selections. DH had the lemon cake and I had chocolate with chocolate frosting. Both were very good, not quite homemade, but very good. Takes a very long time to get services set 20 minutes before asked to place orders food was good

My wife and I stopped over the weekend. We both ordered a burger and "loaded fries" or i think they say bacon and cheese.. LOL well for an extra $2.50 you get a little bit of SHREDDED cheese that is then microwaved. I couldn't believe that's what they charge an extra 250 for. It was horrible. the burger had no flavor and was the size of an older $1 coin. we have learned our lesson here. NEVER AGAIN read more

I had already eaten at the Whits end in Macon, Illinois, where everything I have had there was done well but took way to long. So I decided to try out the one in Taylorville to see if the same was true here. I was happy that the food came out much quicker here. They serve typical bar food. I ordered the blue cheese burger which was great but the fries were under cooked, and apparently under a heat lamp for a while, mushy and oily. My daughter ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes that she didn't care for (but she's a bit fussy) but I ate them them the next day and thought they were pretty good. Three stars is the result of empty glasses on our table and no offer of a refill, we had to ask when the waitress accidentally wandered to close to our table, Cold limp fries, and even though the place was mostly empty they seated us booth to booth with a small group who had a SCREEEEEAAAAMMMMINNG child. I know that it's not their fault he was screaming but the place was empty so put us somewhere else. 6/3/2016. I just wanted to update my past review of Whits End - 48 in Taylorville. I'be been back several times now and they have completely redeemed themselves. The food came out quick. Even though very busy the staff was right on top of everything we needed. Great place with a wide variety of options! Ambiance isn't great but the food was amazing! We had a table of twelve guests and the service was very good. Didn't have to wait long for our food and we ordered a wide variety of dishes. Would recommend the Maustell's Pizza, Jumbo Tenderloin Sandwich, Chicken Wrap, and Horseshoe Sandwich. read more

We eat here at least 2 or 3 times a month, since we don't go out often to eat that is a lot for us. It's our first choice here in Taylorville for a sit down meal. The Prime rib special on the weekends never disappoints. The wings, the mushroom and Swiss burger, and the breaded pork chop are some of my other favorites. Also, don't forget to try their desserts and I adore their blue cheese dressing!!!! read more

We went to Whit's with a party of 18 people. Tim was the host and cook..... he took excellent care of us. Everyone was very happy with their meal we all ordered something different. I had fried chicken.... it was some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Next time we visit Illinois family we will certainly go back there to take family out to dinner. Around 6 last night (Friday) we went to Taylorville's Whit's End, pleasantly surprised. The place was about half full, has a lot of seating inside. We got seated immediately, got menus, asked what we want to drink, and got our drinks all pretty quick. The place was clean, not fancy but nice, and had people coming and going. Because I felt like having a few beers, I ordered their deal on appetizers, two for $7.99 . I got 5 hot wings, they turned out to be good size, and fried chicken livers. Our other dish was half a fried chicken with a salad as the side. The salad was nice. It came with plenty of dressing, onion, a little diced tomato and shredded cheese. Good salad. Was told chicken would take 20 minutes and it also turned out to be really good. I got to eat the thigh which was tasty. On the way out we found they have a bar area with eating up front, I like this place. We didn't try the rids (had bad review), steaks or sandwiches. We will return to try other things not just because we had 3 or 4 beers, 1 glass of wine, the half chicken dinner and two appetizers for $30. Believe we will return on a Friday again to try the prime rib. We were told its a whole prime rib and cooked there. UPDATE: Returned on Friday to try their prime rib. Found they also serve it on Saturdays and have 10 and 12 ounce cuts. Ordered a medium rare 10 oz. cut and it was great. Served with au jus and two sides all for $15. Very pleased and will be back for the prime rib. Like the last time we were there, we ordered the two appetizers for $7.99. Had the shrimp and wings. They were both jumbo pieces and we thought were very good. We again both had their dinner salad. It's a nice size salad with a lot of extras, also enjoyed this. We will return again. read more

We went there for a change in scenery one night for dinner. The place was a ghost town. Sat in the bar area and it took 15 min to get someone to come over. We ordered our drinks and appetizers first. Then our food. It took 25 min to get our mozz sticks, never got refills on drinks, and food was not very good. I don't know of they were having issues or what but service was horrible and food was horrible. We will not be back again. read more

Always had good service and food when coming here. Tonight was a different story. Had two waitress changes while I was there with my family and comments from staff were free of charge. Took a bit too long to receive check and that is when I asked for it. When. Leaving it was a down pour and they have a car port that was taken up by staff. I know because it was my original waitress and they were smoking. My elder mother son and wife had to get in the car in the rain. When calling in the owner or supervisor, it seemed like he couldnt get me off of the phone fast enough. Ugh read more

Group of us were here for the first time recently & all agree we WILL go back. Parking lot was full when we arrived & having read other reviews we laughingly said we hoped that was a sign of good food rather than slow service! Special that nite was prime rib; several ordered it & each person was very satisfied. Many choices on their menu, from sandwiches to appetizers to steaks, chops, etc. Oh -- LOVE their bread sticks!! It's an unassuming atmosphere but the place was clean, the food was wonderful & came out in a timely manner. If you're in the Taylorville area & want great food at reasonable prices, this is where you should go! Two thumbs up!! read more
